Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
I have to admit the Shack scene had me in tears (again), but Snape's survivial really made the story for me. I'm hoping for another chapter or two so we can see a bit into their future.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Another chapter or ten? Coming right up :)Thank you for your kind words--I'm glad that Severus's survival satisfied you. We'll see much more of Snape and Hermione in the coming chapters. No epilogues!Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

I don't know what to say.Wow. Just... Wow.I have never read a story that has ripped such emotion from me before. And certainly not in one chapter. Words cannot even describe. This chapter reinforces why this is one of my top three stories of all time.I can't wait for the next chapter, to see the angst before Hermione gets her butt in gear and goes after him.Well done, and thank you.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank YOU. I'm so touched, and so happy that you liked the chapter. I laughed when I read "Hermione gets her butt in gear"! hehehe. She will. :)More soon! Thank you so much, again. xoxo

Victory was not sweet, but thick and tangy as blood, sharp as a sword. That is an absolutely thrilling line. Wonderful chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it, that line in particular. That was a last draft addition--it's so funny how sometimes those turn out the best. :)More soon, and thank you so much for reviewing!

YOU! The tears are falling unchecked because of you missy! What an ENDING. It was BRILLIANT! It was soooooooo emotional. It robbed me of breath. I like your version better than JK's, in case anyone was wondering. I loved the line about the shock of pain ending, as pain was what was equated with living for Severus. Simply stunning. This was magical in every way. Now I think a happy ending is in order but of course I leave that in your capable hands.

My god, woman. I don't even know what to say. What should be a victorious chapter is rendered horribly, sickeningly, sorrowful. But before that...
The image of Hogwarts having a pulse, and Hermione with her hand on the wall to feel that pulse, "Hogwarts, hurt, Howarts, violated." God, that is beautiful and powerful
"How could they die when they were right?" Yes, isn't that what we all feel in battle -- any battle, the battles of everyday life! If we are right, how can we lose? It's such a mind-blowing concept, unfairness. Our world is not fair, it is not just, except on rare occasion. This lines says so much to me, personally.
Snape not leaving, not wanting to hide or be a coward, wanting to fight... Yes. :)
And Hermione feeling badly about using the Vita? Lariope, dear, it sounds as though she feels that she owes Harry a life debt now! So perhaps she and her husband have something more significant in common these days. I would take that trouble from her if I could, but only she can decide.
But still, you leave us in a bad place. An abyss, to use the words of our "hero." So the question is.. What love will follow him down there, and can he abide by that? I think the war is not over, at least for some.
You've outdone yourself. Even if I am choked up, still, you've done a great thing here.
Author's Response:
Thank you, Lulabelle. I'm... honored, even though that's a weird word, that the chapter felt "horribly, sickeningly, sorrowful." That's how I read the end of DH, the final battle, and I think that's why I felt so jarred by the epilogue, that we could leave the scene of such turmoil and pain to leap ahead nineteen years....
And I'm very happy that the notion of unfairness struck you. I see the world as so deeply unjust, but I suppose that is a tale for down the road.
And I'm glad you liked your contribution, though you said it more perfectly than I could. And I thank you over and over again for pinch-hitting for me on this one. I needed you, and you were there. Thank you.
The war is not over. How that resonates for me. Not yet. Not by a long shot.
:( Sad.... but he survived!!! That's exciting!! That battle was wonderfully written! Esp. when Harry "died". The tension in the air was thick as my mom's home made chicken noodle soup! ;)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Did I have you, even for a second? My husband said he couldn't tell, that he knew my story too well to doubt for even a moment. I'm glad it felt exciting to you. Thank you! And now, onward! Part III! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Oh. Beautiful. You've captured the tears of release at the end of a battle, the disbelief, numbness, outpouring of emotions too strong and complex for wards. Look forward to more very, very soon. One concrit: here: "she saw Lupin laying on the ground" - Laying should be Lying. And this line? Is Made. Of. Win.: "“I see,” Potter said. “I only ask because it seems to me that you have not always been very clear about what belongs to you.”"
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Damned laying and lying! Thank you,

; I appreciate it, and I'll get it fixed. I'm very glad you liked Harry's line there! It was fun to write. And thank you so much for your lovely words and support. More very soon! xoxox
Response from hobgoblinn (Reviewer)
I'm right on lying and laying-- but I really can spell "words" correctly, too. I just did that so you wouldn't feel bad about the concrit....Yeah, that's it.Always happy to offer words of support, even if I can't spell them right.

I'm glad you're leaving DH behind... I don't think I could have taken much more, honestly. I was fascinated by the ways in which your storyline departed from canon DH and yet how true to its emotions it remained -- not so much an alternate universe as a parallel one. Using Hermione's POV for the first and final parts and Snape's for the central episode of the final confrontation gave this such interesting texture. Somehow it seemed best that Snape's be the eyes through which we saw Voldemort die, maybe because it felt so wrong that he was denied that in canon. Finally, Ron's line at the end, "One then? Just one?" was so perfect, illustrating how the three friends barely have to speak in complete sentences to each other to say everything that is necessary. So sorry to be so disjointed, I just wanted to get the impressions down and it's hard to be coherent when you're enjoying a story this much!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It's funny to hear that, and I'm glad too to walk away. I shut the book yesterday and put it back on the shelf for the first time since March. Damn, it felt good. I'm glad that you liked Snape's POV in the middle, and I thought what you said about his getting to witness it after having been denied that in canon was very beautiful, and it made me even gladder that I'd been in his head there. When I am most overcome, I tend to go to Snape, who I find very grounding. Thank you so much,

Oh why do you stop here? Hermione has the "secret" to where Severus has gone. She must go to find him. Harry will survive he has the love of many, but Severus thinks he has no one. He will perish without her love and her life is only an existance without her soul...Severus. Well done my dear. Irish

Just to torture you, my dear Irish. And kudos to you for being a smart reader. You're absolutely right. You know, your ideas about touch stay with me and affect this story still. I just wanted you to know that. And what do you mean, what happened to 39? It's right there where it belongs. :)Thank you for reviewing, my friend. xoxoxo

Ooooh it's done. I felt hopeless for Snape who watched and fought while feeling like he had no side that would accept him. I felt his hope surge when his mark disappeared. How will he get to her, I need them to find each other. Great update Lariope, I needed this.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, goodbye, DH. :) I'm glad that it was Snape who you could feel here... that makes me very glad. Thank you so much for reviewing... more will come soon, and you will know the answer to your question. :)

OH my FREAKING GOSH!! What a chapter! I laughed, I cried, I shouted out loud. I was so freaking HAPPY she used the potion for Snape, saving his life, and then of course he's got to POO on the whole damn thing, on her, and leave her there. Merlin's pants!!!AND, there are no more chapters! GAH!!!Ok, so I'm completely sunk, hook, line, and sinker into this story. It is amazing and intriguing. You weave such a wonderful web, the reader cannot help but get sucked into it! I look forward to your next updates, and I (among the thousands of others) must say, you have a fan in me!

Yeah, and Harry will flip his lid when he knows who it is!Luna's "I guess that’s what love looks like when you’re afraid.” was beautiful. How I adore your Snape. Risking everything to come take care of Hermione. *yummy sigh*I wonder where you're going now, and when you're going to deviate wildly from the DH ending...I'm very much hoping you do, and you KNOW why, since I'm sure all your readers are feeling the same.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)

Snape certainly seems to know what he is doing! Hermione warmed up to him quickly - especially after such a whirlwind evening. I wonder if she had a thing for her Potions teacher?

Wow, that was fast! I didn't think that they get married on the spot! Not the wedding of a young girl's dreams, was it? Excellent chapter.

“Oh, love is real enough, and it has power, but it does not win wars.” Snape fixed the portrait in his dark, steady gaze. “Then you are no different than the Dark Lord. No different at all.”This part was SO intense!! I loved it!I was so heartbroken for Snape here...boy, you really know how to make us hurt for that man! I absolutely ADORED how Hermione showed up, took care of him, and I loved Dobby for his part in that. It was a beautifully written scene, and one of the best in this entire story.BTW, I saw you have/had an LJ account, but not updated in a bit. Do you think you'll ever get back on there?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
