Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
This chapter was so very exciting and descriptive. The entire time I was reading this chapter, I felt as if I were actually there. And for another brief moment, I felt as if I were reading another Harry Potter book all over again. It made me happy inside! Wonderful job dear, I look forward to further chapters!

Sweet old manipulative Lemon Drop Man. Very interesting that Mad-Eye was involved... especially considering he was the most vocal Snape opponent in DH. Continuing on reading this lovely story... goodness do I have a long way to go!

Hey Lariope,I'm swamped with work but took break to finally read Chapter 37 today. It's terrific! Griphook (his emotions, motivations) is very well done. So is the description of the tunnels -- I felt as if I were there. Sorry no time to leave more detailed review. Here's some energy to help you write:Not that you appear to need it, but your fans are demanding and don't want you to feel overwhelmed. That's what you get for writing so well.RR

BRAVO !!!!This is again one breathtaking chapter and so full of action .I must say again and again that I am so glead that I did not read DH yet . This is so much better and I wrealy and truly love it. When I find in wikipedia that Snape decease I lost every will to read the whole story .

Lora, thank you so much! I'm so glad you are liking the story (although lots of what you are liking *is* from DH). Just not the Snape parts. :) And yes, I can see where it would be tough to read if you knew that he was going to die from the beginning. Anyway, thank you so much for reading SL!!!

Great chapter! Nothing like a little bit of action / adventure to liven things up. But who knew that Goblins were so self destructive! Sort of gives a new twist to 'at all costs'. When I read DH and then this chapter, I kept having this corny idea that the Gringotts dragon was going to be Norbert and he'd be imprinted on everyone that was there for his hatching and that's why he would help them out. Like I said, Corny! I rather liked Goblins self-destructing the bank... or does it magic itsself back to it's former grandeur?

! I was just thinking of you today. I'm glad that you liked the action/adventure--I find it terrifying to write. And yes--at all costs was absolutely what I was thinking there.Heh! I bet you weren't the only person to think of Norbert in that chapter! We've seen relatively few dragons, so it makes sense. :) You know, I'm not sure about the bank--I'll have to think about that! Thank you so much for reviewing, my dear. xoxo

I very much enjoyed your take on the break-in at Gringotts. I loved the connection between Hermione and Severus that showed in her finding the courage to play Bellatrix and of course in her new Patronus. I find the hawk very fitting.
And I'm very glad you spared us the poor blind dragon, one of the many things I didn't like in DH *points to penname*. Looking forward to more.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad that you find the hawk fitting; that makes me happy. *dances* And so glad you didn't mind my cutting the blind dragon. ;) Thank you for reviewing!

I'm very curious - as we seem to be nearing the end - to see when and where the divergance from DH occurs. You had mentioned in a review reply that this was EWE and it completely peaked my curiousity about what will go down at the end of it all. As always, I enjoy your tale, but I didn't like DH at all. So, for some parts, like this Gringotts bit, it's hard to get through for me. Please don't take that as 'I don't like your story' cuz that is simply not true. It's just, in the parts where we are basically rereading DH, as the LeStrange vault break-in is, I have to kind of push myself through it this second time, reminding myself that we will get back to YOUR story (the one I am loving and the one I really want to read) when we get through these bits of canon. I hope that makes some sense. LOL I don't mean it badly so I hope it doesn't come off that way. I look forward to the next chapter and more of YOUR tale (my mind has made a distinction between what parts of this story are "yours" and what parts are DH retold) because I am absolutely loving the "your" parts of your story. :)

Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
, I'm not offended. I most enjoy the parts of the story that are mine as well. This chapter was a place where I wasn't particularly fond of DH either, and that was one of the reasons that I reworked the ending of the scene so drastically. I simply couldn't write an escape on a blind dragon. The battle of Hogwarts and the Shrieking Shack will be present in SL--you'll see those over the next three chapters. But then we'll be in fully uncharted territory until the end of SL--I'm going beyond DH, to the parts of my story that I've been waiting to get to for so long. Thanks for reviewing, and I hope you'll stick with me. The end of DH is near!
Response from Mazzy (Reviewer)
Oh I will definitely stick around :) I am absolutely loving "your" bits. And honeslty, I don't think the DH bits would bother me either - I think I mentioned at some point that you tell the tale in much better fashion - if I didn't have such a deep seeded dislike for it. I wish I could like it, I really do. I even tried to reread it... but alas... I jsut didn't like it. At least this way I can reread it without ACTUALLY rereading it. LOL Looking forward to the twists and turns to come.

I absolutely loved reading this! Thank you for the epic story.
This chapter is so full of energy and fraught with possibilities! And while I was perusing any number of possible outcomes, I became acutely aware of the beautiful honeysuckle growing through the fence, lush and sweet and fragrant. Exquisite, don't you think? One of the most telling moments for me was when Hermione understood, not so much in an intellectual manner, but in a very visceral sense, what Severus had had to learn in order to play his part for so many years. Was this how he did it? she thought. "Was there more than one Snape?" And the change in Hermione's Patronus from otter to hawk is spot on! The hawk: fierce, graceful, powerful, so like the falcon. Perfect. And now we are "On the way to Hogwarts."Your literary gifts are very evident here, indeed, throughout the entire narrative! You are simply one of the very best at what you do, and I am sure I speak for any number of readers when I say, "Thank you from the bottom of my heart" for sharing your gifts with us.Well done -- AGAIN!Beth

Wonderful chapter,so exciting. I am becoming so excited as the trio move to hogwarts and i can't wait for your version of the unfolding events. I know it will be far superior to JR's. Many thanks, you are brillant.

I wonder what's getting to Dumbledore. This is what he wanted after all, isn't it? The Trio is so close to completing everything they need to. I'm practically sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. I hope they get Severus' message. Perhaps there's a way they can destroy Voldemort's soul without killing Harry. If anyone can think of a way, it'll be Hermione.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, it is what he wanted. I think he's pleased to hear that they're coming for the Horcrux. I'm so glad you're excited for what's next--I'm excited to write it! Thank you so much for reviewing!

In--tense! There was so much action here, so many twists. Now I'm really wondering what's up your sleeve. I really loved Hermione's ruminations about debts, loyalty, and love. Perfect mix, as usual of action and introspection.

Hmm, interesting reworking of that chapter. I can see the big finale looming and I'm getting eager. Obviously, you've been tweaking canon for a while (perfectly accetable) so I really have no idea what to expect whenthey reach Hogwarts. Can't wait to see how you tackle it. Keep up the good work!

Wow! I don't think I actually breathed for the whole chapter! I feel like I just let my breath out! Great work! I don't even know what to say!
That's a lot of exclamation points. Fantastic, Lariope. Excellent as usual, but more crazed. Holy cow. And I love Snape-centric chapters, but this was totally awesome. Although I am feeling so choked-up for Griphook right now. Poor goblin.
On the way to Hogwarts. YES!
Author's Response: That was a lot of exclamation points! (And I loved every one)
I'm glad, I think, that it felt crazed. And so happy that you felt for Griphook--I felt he was sort of abused in DH.
Thank you so much for reviewing!

Ohhh, that was an exciting chapter! I'm curious about your choices to move farther away from DH than usual. Were you trying to show the trio acting with more honor to Griphook than they did in DH? Did you want to show us that Hermione's patronus has changed? Do you have some other reason that we don't know about? (Well, of course you do.) In any case, I loved the chapter and look forward to the next one.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I've been thinking about how to respond to this all day, so thank you so much for asking such an interesting question!I had several reasons for deciding to make a change from the Gringotts scene, one of which, you listed. I wanted to explore wizard/goblin relations a bit more, and I wanted to work with Griphook as a character. Also, I've been making steadily more and more changes to DH, in preparation for the ending scenes, where I'll have to change a great deal simply because I won't have access to Harry's POV. But to be fully honest, I also changed it because I didn't like the Gringotts scene in canon, and I knew that if I tried to rewrite something I didn't like, you guys would know, that it would show in the writing. I tried to keep as many of the original elements in place as possible, but write something that felt more plausible to me, and hopefully to some of you. I hope you liked it. Thank you so much for reviewing! xoxo
Response from Prof M McGonagall (Reviewer)
Thanks for such a detailed response! And I did enjoy the changes very much. As many of your other reviewers said, it seems more plausible than that they could somehow escape on an almost blind dragon.
