Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Wonderful!! I have been out of touch lately and missed you adding the last two chapters but I am all caught up now!!!! So very wonderful! Loved every bit.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you!And I like your little roll-y guy. ;)
Very good portrayal of Dumbledore as the manipulative bastard! It is so Snape to be able to force himself to sleep with his fameous self-control. You have, IMHO, a real gift for getting into the heads of these characters.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm really flattered that you think so! And re: Dumbledore.... you ain't seen nothing yet. :)Thanks so much for reviewing! I'm so happy that you're still reading. xoxo
though there was nothing there to occupy him but the well-traveled paths of his mind.A quick glance behind him, masked with a flourish of his robes, told him that Dumbledore had indeed joined them. The old bastard had the gall to wink at him.Two of my favorite quotes from the chapter. Excellent work!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much!

*grin* After the last chapter, I wondered how Hermione would manage to gain Harry's acceptance of "someone helping", or more tolerance towards Snape. Well managed indeed, though it wasn't really her doing.
What a tense, inense and wonderful chapter! I literally felt with Severus, this must have been so abysmally hard for him... and he managed so well. Luna is great, too... she has earned more part in the "story" in gerenal, I'm glad she has ist with you, too.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, poor Harry was bound to notice sometime! I'm so glad you liked the chapter--and Luna! Thank you for reviewing!

Again, extremely well written in-between the book story! You also manage it very well not to let the suspense slip or getting down.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm so glad you think so. :)
Woot! A new chapter! And Snape was.... GUH! I want him married to me the next time I'm in a wizarding war. (Cuz, you know, the likelihood of that happening is like... HUGE!)Ummm... when do we get a new chapter? Cuz I really need to see some more Severus/ Hermione interaction, this was so sweet, but I miss the snogging. Definitely need some snogging... Hurrry!
Response from GinnyW (Reviewer)
And it's late and Shug is now telling me that I'm cut off from Diet Coke and Ben & Jerry's ice cream...
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
hehehe. Diet Coke and Ben&Jerry's? And Snape for a husband during a wizarding war? All these things sound excellent to me. :)hehehe :)
How touching and wonderful a chapter, Lariope. Luna is a fierce ally, and I am glad she's in the fold. And a true Ravenclaw, she has the intelligence to figure out what's happening but she is smarter still to hide behind her dreamy facade, perfect. And even Harry is has clued into the fact that someone is helping them, wow! ;) Snape is lovely in this chapter. Him worried sick running through the halls of Hogwarts disillusioned and scaring students left and right, contemplating torturing a portrait for information, thinking Hermione has been in his pocket all the while, poor emotion crazed Snape is one of my favorite characterizations of him. Because it seems so real, behind his cold veneer is a deeply emotional man. All in all I loved it, and wait on pins and needles for the next update. *hugs*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
! I'm so glad you liked the chapter. I'm happy that emotion crazed Snape is not a contradiction to you. I agree that there is a great deal going on beneath the surface of him, and I also think that most people could not circumvent both masters and watch their wife tortured without freaking out a bit. Thank you so much for reviewing!
They really healed her up horribly- she would have died from infection - leaving all that glass in and causing the skin to cover it - thank goodness that Severus came.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Poor Fleur... I really think she did the best she could. I'm sure they were all very scared. But yes, thank goodness for Severus. Thank you for reviewing!
*Bows to you.* Dobby. Luna. Snape. Hermione. Harry. Just perfect. I of course also enjoyed the bits referring/comparing Dumbledore- really gets into the gist of things as to why he's sometimes hard to hate.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, I agree that Dumbledore is hard to hate; hard to pin down into one prevailing characterization. I do think he knew what he was doing there; I just don't think he realized the extent. Thank you so much for reviewing! I'm so glad you liked the chapter. xoxo
What an utterly fascinating take on Deathly Hallows. I'm so glad to see a version of DH with SS/HG so well developed. I am a bit fearful for Severus, knowing how DH ends for him. But overall I have the feeling that this version of the story is going to become my personal canon. Thanks for a deeply enjoyable read thus far, and please continue. I can't wait to see where Severus and Hermione end up. :)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much. I'm glad that you still see my ss/hg story meshing with canon satisfactorily! I'm so happy to hear that you are enjoying it. More soon! Thank you for reviewing!
Ahh now I am caught up again...for some reason I was distracted for about 5 days. I wonder why? Well done as always my dear though I do wish she had been able to be aware of Severus' presence at some point. You are so cruel. Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Hrmmm...? Well, I hope it was an enjoyable 5 days. :)I know what you mean about Severus--but you know, honestly, I think she was more upset than he was. If she had been conscious, I'm not sure he would have allowed himself to be so open with her, and I think he needed to do that to feel better about Malfoy Manor. But I do think that for her to find out she'd missed some of the few moments they've been able to have... torturous. I AM cruel. Thank you for reviewing!!
When he came in, he looked as if he’d fallen into a nest of Acromantulas. I guess that’s what love looks like when you’re afraid.”I LOVE LUNA YES I DO YES I DO I LOVE LUNA HOW ABOUT YOU? HOW ABOUT YOU?thank you for the Luna love! I want them to take her along for the rest of the journey! I want Hermione to have a girlfriend she can confide in! I want more Luna. pretty please??????
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I have plans for Luna down the road, but as much as I'd love to add a member to the party.... I can't. And besides, then she'd just end up getting it on with Ron, and you don't want that, do you? Don't worry; it's not the last of Luna in SL. :)Thanks for reviewing! xoxo
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
NO I do not want Luna paired off with Ron or Neville. I think she is clever and hides behind the ditz. She needs someone who can appreciate her. Hummmm maybe an OC? I am looking forward to the next Luna sighting!
Okay Lari explainer of all things stupid from DH. Why the hell couldnt Dobby bring them food? If he can pop in and out of the Mafloy dungeons why couldnt he bring a good meal from time to time? Surely Hermione could have coughed up some plausible cause? I just hate the idea of them starving. Especially as I sit here eatting my cherry pop tart. It makes me sad. You completely grossed me out with your description of Greyback's breath. Sweet carrion. Icky! Have I mentioned in the last 4-5 reviews how much I love this story? Yes my eternal fangirl love is for you!!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I have no explanation for that stupidity. I'm sorry. All I can come up with is this: If they didn't realize until just before Malfoy Manor that they could call Dobby, then he could have been bringing them food and they just never thought to ask. I seem to recall there being something in canon about why they didn't call Kreacher--something about being afraid that if there were DE's in the house and they called him, a DE could latch on and find them? I may be mangling that, but there was some reason. I'm kind of happy imagining you eating your cherry pop tart though. I do like pop tarts. :)Ok, so I'm happy, too, that I grossed you out with the carrion sweet breath. I've been waiting to write that my entire life, I think. Hooray! Fangirl love! Love back at you, my dear. Thanks for reviewing.
I enjoyed the dialogue between Snape and Dumbledore. You are a clever clever girl!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you are enjoying it. :)
Wow, it was a very powerful chapter. Thanks for the view into the Death Eaters' experience. Poor Snape. Very very well written!

Thank you,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
! This is one of my favorite chapters, so I'm very glad that you liked it. Writing the Death Eaters has been oddly pleasurable. :)Thank you for reviewing!
I really do appreciate the way in which you are righting the wrongs about THAT BOOK. She utterly failed to give us anything other than a stick figure portrayal of the most important character in the book.Your Snape is three dimensional. His panic and self-talk while waiting to get some sort of message from Hermione really rang true. The tender way he took care of Hermione spoke of all of the love he finds so hard to say.For all that Dobby was killed, Luna recovering from trauma, and Hermione with glass under her skin, this chapter affirmed everything that is best about these characters. There is loyalty, sacrifice, and love.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
! I'm so happy to hear that the chapter read that way to you--it is a dark one, and yet I felt, too, that it was underscored with hope and loyalty, and all the things I love best in these characters, that makes them so hard to give up.Much love to you, my dear. Thank you for reviewing!
I knew I loved Luna for a reason! Poor Severus. I'm glad he got to take care of Hermione though. That will ease the guilt of not being able to defend her, at least a little. Wonder how Harry's going to react when he find's out that the someone on their side is Severus! Loving it! Looking forward to the next!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I still love these crazy emoticons! They make me feel all excited! Luna does rule, doesn't she? I just love her as a character. And yes, I can just imagine Harry flipping his lid entirely. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for reviewing!
"That must be what love looks like when you're scared" I think that was one of the best lines I have ever read. Amazing chapter.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Wow. Thank you so much!
Well, that was incredible. I can't even describe what I think. I'm glad Harry's realizes they have help. Maybe he'll figure out that it's Severus. That would really make him flip. At least then he'll know that Severus was always helping them. I can't wait to read more!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad that you liked it. Yes, I imagine Harry would definitely freak out if he knew it were Snape... We'll just have to wait and see! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
Dobby's death in canon made me weep, and you have done it all over again in showing it from a different angle. I love, love, love this story you are telling, and I utterly adore Luna's part in it. She is one of those underappreciated characters, I think, who is wise and serene and certain of the world the way she sees it, which is just exactly right. You also put some exquisite words in her mouth, the very best of which is: "that’s what love looks like when you’re afraid."I also adore the moment when Severus realizes one of the reasons Albus left him alone in Hermione's care all that time before, and almost thanks him for it.I know I keep saying this, but you keep amazing me with the way you are explaining things I didn't realize before needed explaining, and weaving this astonishing tale into the fabric of what was there before, as though it was always in place. Of course Severus came to heal her, of course Luna went out to look for him because she knew she hadn't dreamed his earlier visit, of course he was the one who made sure Hermione had the key and the means to Polyjuice herself, of course they both would have taken Dobby's death to heart, in part because each felt they were responsible for it....I LOVE THIS STORY MORE THAN I CAN TELL YOU!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think that I owe you roughly eight million pounds of chocolate or the equivalent. That you see inevitability here is all I could have ever hoped for. I mean that. It's all I could have ever hoped for. I'm nearly speechless with gratitude. I'm so happy that you liked Luna. I struggled with her dialogue in this chapter and I'm just so glad it read well to you and to all the wonderful people who took the time to comment on it. Words are insufficient. I know I say that to you too much, and I'm supposed to be good at words, but I'll never be able to describe how much strength you give me. Endurance when it's hard. The determination to get it right, to keep going even when I've really flubbed something.Thank you so much for reviewing, now and always.
Hell of a time for Harry to figure that out. Luckily he won't think of Snape for a good long while. A lovely chapter, and Luna is one of my favorite characters.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, it would be quite the explosion if he put it all together now, wouldn't it? But Harry wears Snape blinders--and ultimately, I'm not sure that's totally his fault. But that is neither here nor there, and I am rambling once again!! I'm very glad you liked Luna and the chapter. Thank you so much for reviewing!
as you see i still think this story is outstanding. i never understood until how much reviews mean until i gotyour reply. i wiil continue to post a commet . again many thanks your readers
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
My dear, I hope you didn't feel pressured to respond. Reviews are lovely, wonderful things, and I appreciate them more than you know--but I'm just glad you're reading and enjoying it. xoxo Thank you!
Response from portugal_faro (Reviewer)
i don't feel pressured. it it is a thrill to get a comment from an author as talented as you. i would love to write a story but unfortunataly i have no talent. so i appreciate those who have
You killed dobby again! Once again it brought tears to my eyes. I love the way you are portraying Luna in your story, and I have to say I don't even like Luna all that much in the books and usually I don't care for her in fanfic. Good job.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know I did; I'm sorry. I feel terrible for doing it. I'm glad that you are enjoying Luna, especially if you are not a fan of her character in canon. Thank you!xoxo
Interesting realisation, isn't it? What a sloppy care Hermione had! I wonder if you are going to elaborate on Fleur's attitude. Great story. Just great.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I don't think Fleur meant to hurt Hermione--I think she was doing the best she could. After all, even Dumbledore said that Madam Pomfrey wouldn't know how to treat the Cruciatus, and poor Fleur certainly wasn't expecting a host of injured teenagers to show up. Thank you for reviewing!!
