Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Oh, wow, again, you make this so much better than DH. It was a beautiful chapter, so full of excitement and wonderful detail.

I'm so glad that Minerva has finally 'seen the light'. One of the things that annoyed me most in DH was the fact that other than Dumbledore, who died at the end of book six, no one else knew the truth about Snape's true loyalties. That just never made sense to me. I understand about 'cells' and information being 'need to know', but Dumbledore just hung Snape out to dry. I'm glad you've given him an ally in Hermione and now Minerva.Still loving this!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
You know, honestly, you've just hit on the exact inspiration for this entire story. I even think about the HP series without being enraged that NO ONE KNEW. That Dumbledore had left Snape no backup plan whatsoever, no contact, nothing. It made it inevitable that Snape would die, because what else could she have done with him??? There would be absolutely no one and nothing to suggest that he hadn't done what it looked like he had done. If he had lived, he would have gone to Azkaban or worse. And hence, SL. :)Thank you for reviewing! I'm glad you're still enjoying it!

Hi, Lariope,I just re-read Chapter 37, and realized that this is actually a story about a bank collapse! If that doesn't make you laugh, I don't know what will.CheersCB

A fantastic chapter. A much more logical escape plan for the trio.Exceptional writing skills too.

Ron has never been my favourite character, but you've given him so much more maturity and depth than JKR ever did. You've turned me into a Ron-tolerrant person! (I won't say Ron-lover, but at least I don't hate 'your' Ron like I do most other writers' versions -- including my own!)Another wonderful chapter, and you were so spot-on with Harry and Hermione's conversation. The two of them DO have something (someone) waiting for them when this horror show is over. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing talent.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks, and I'm glad you're able to tolerate Ron here--I am a bit of a Ron lover, though never for our Hermione, no, no, no! But I have tried to be kind to him as the story has progressed, as I so often feel badly for him in ss/hg fiction... as well as in canon. ;)Thank you so much for reviewing, my dear!

When he could release her, he looked into her eyes and whispered, “Do you remember when I told you not to repeat our plans back to me? That things said aloud are harder to hide?”She bit her lip and nodded. Her eyes were looking dangerously bright.“Good,” he said. “I will be in touch.” He rose. If he did not leave now, he would not be able to leave.OMG -- this just tore me up. They don't even have the comfort of being able to tell each other how they feel. There was such an air of desperation during their love-making. It was as if they KNEW they might never get another chance. This is just brilliant.Oh, and can I get in the line forming to punch Dumbledore right in his smug, smarmy face?Love it!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
The line forms to the left, my dear, but as the author, I get first swing at him. Yes? :)I'm glad you felt their desperation and their feelings, though they could not express them. Thank you so much!

I'm back from vacation, and ready to resume my second reading of your fabulous story! (There are even a few 'new-to-me' chappies to look forward to!)I just love this story -- it's ever so much more entertaining and fulfilling than DH!I'm glad that Severus has figured it out -- of course he would! And it warms my heart to see Dumbledore humbled a bit when Snape points out to him that life is not always as predictable as a chess game!Onward!

I just love the way you weave canon into your story. You fill in all the (plot) holes that drove me crazy in DH.Superb, as always!

Thank you! This is one of my very favorite chapters. One of those ones where it just felt like I reached out and grabbed it and forced into the page. I'm glad you liked it. :)

i really like how the story started and was hoping that you would finish the story like the book of deathly hallows but with a twist where hermione gave the vile that snape gave to her to give to harry and hermione told harry to give to snape since he has the resurrection stone and the cloak and is the true heir to the elder wand. and some how end the story where hermione and snape has children. ron with lavender and harry with ginny

I don't want to give away anything about how the story will end, but I do hope that you will like it. Thank you for reading this far and for reviewing!

I'm sorry to not have left any reviews until chapter 27, but I "found" this story last night and it held me spellbout. I'm pretty sure it is the first fan fic to hold my attention since the last book came out (which depressed me). So anyway, this is wonderful. Surely, a vast improvement on the original final two volumes. I like the way you have stuck as close as possible to the cannon plot while still weaving in your original ideas. Probably one of top five or so stories I have ever read in this genre. It might even motivate me to finish a story of my own. Anyway, thank you for writing this. I don't know how close to complete the story is, but I hope it will be completed.

! I'm so glad that you're enjoying it. And I very much hope that you will finish your story--the world can always use more good fiction.Yes, it's almost done, and I promise that it will be completed. 8 more chapters is my estimate, and I'm writing one of those 8 now. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

*sputters* I didn't get an email notification that you'd updated, and was sitting all morose waiting.. I can't believe I missed the update! Anyhow.. thank goodness I've found it now, I was needing a SL fix!! Wonderful, exhilirating chapter. Whew I hardly took a breath it was action packed and very good! I cringe at the lack of Dittany left in Hermione's phial, and the excitment of them heading back to Hogwarts is overshadowed by the anticipation/dread of what is destined to transpire. It's really getting to the important bits now isn't it, and I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for the inevitable. It's like watching a horror movie with your hand over your eyes but unable to resist peaking.. in a good way of course. I have total faith in you that you'll see us through to a happy ending, I just know some major drama is on its way!! :) Good work Lariope and thank you bunches!!

!You're not the first person to tell me that they didn't get their notification. What's up with that? In any case, I usually update on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (depending on how many re-writes I had to do!)I'm really glad that you liked the chapter! And yes, we're right on the cusp of all the big stuff. Major drama on the way, indeed! :)Thank you so much for reviewing! It means the world to me.

Ooh! This was different, but no less exciting - I like your alternative version of the Gringotts happenings a lot (and your Griphook). And with the added bonus of Ron and Hermione not needing bathroom-time alone for destroying the cup, now, I assume!Hermione taking on Bella's persona was scary, but quite wonderful. I can't imagine how scary it must have been for her - even more so once she'd got into "being Bellatrix" than at first, I'd suspect, for finding out first-hand how terrifyingly easy it can be to become someone so cold and cruel.I'm a little worried about Hermione realising she had barely any dittany left... evil foreshadowing? But then, I rather trust this to have a happy ending, so... :-D
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yay! I'm so glad you found it exciting! And most particularly, I'm glad that you liked Griphook, and Hermione's performance as Bellatrix--I quite agree with you; it is always frightening to discover that there is a bit of that person inside of you, no matter how small. So, off we go to Hogwarts!Thank you so much for reviewing!xoxox

Shezam, sister!!! It's as if you take up a 2x4 and just start swinging. I always feel as though I've been dropped from just about almost too high up, and landed badly - the shock of being back in my own chair, here in my own house, is always so severe when I fall out of one of your terribly, terribly real, right-here chapters. Do you know what I mean? Like I said in an earlier review, it's as though it's all happening right in front of me: I can hear their steps, I can smell the smoke... It galls me to think that the story might soon be over!!! Yet I'm cheered that you're still going strong. All's well here, and I trust you're the same. Thanks, as always!CB

! I'm glad you're still reading! Yes, this was an intense one, but with a different kind of intensity than SL usually has... I'm really glad that it was vivid to you, that you could feel it. Yes, we're moving toward the end of DH, but fear not, SL goes beyond. I expect about 8 more chapters, which means about 8 more weeks! Thank you so much for reviewing!

Have I mentioned before that I love your Luna?
And I was very glad that you didn't gloss over Hermione's suffering the way DH did. Snape taking care of her was very sweet.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Dreamy Dragon. I'm so glad you like my Luna. And I'm glad you could see where I was coming from with Hermione's convalescence. It was baffling to me in canon that she could be tortured in Malfoy Manor and then planning with Griphook and the boys immediately upon their arrival at Shell Cottage. Thank you so much for reviewing!
Nice take on the scene in the manor. Poor Hermione and poor Snape. Witnessing what is happening to her must be incredibly hard on him, and I'm glad you didn't gloss over her suffering as quickly as DH did.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you. It was hard to do that to her, and yet, I think there is something necessary there--some reminder that it cannot all be fixed and arranged, that war brings pain and suffering and sacrifice. And yes, poor Snape. Knowing, as he does, exactly what she is going through. Thank you for reviewing!
Powerful chapter. I was very glad that Hermione managed to bring Severus back. Ultimately realising Dumbledore's betrayal must have been such a horrible experience for him. Every time I think about DH and Dumbledore's manipulations I want to comfort Snape and do something really nasty to Dumbledore.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Me, too. For me, the worst part is realizing that he probably had that moment of realization in the Shrieking Shack. Gut wrenching. Thank you! I'm glad you liked the chapter!
Wonderful chapter. I liked the conversation with Luna, who is one of my favourite minor characters, very much. And poor Snape to have to realise that Dumbledore has destined him to die.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked Luna; she's one of my favorite characters as well.
I'm so glad Minerva figured it out!
And I look forward to see what you do with the legends of the Deathly Hallows. I found these rather confusing in the book.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
They were very confusing in the book! I did the best I could with them--I hope it makes sense to you. :)
Wow. This is the most interesting, rewarding version of books six and seven I've ever read. I've truly enjoyed it much more than JK's work. You've taken what was my least favorite book (HBP) and made it incredibly interesting and what's even more amazing is that you've made me LOVE the Deathly Hallows as well. I didn't think it could be done but you...you've done it. You are remarkably talented and if you wrote something original, I would love to know about it and read it. Seriously. I've read a ton of fanfiction but this is something a step beyond. It's wonderful and I feel grateful that I've had the chance to read it. How will I know when you update? Does TPP send out alerts of some kind or do I need to just check back every so often?

, I am touched beyond what I can say by your words. Thank you so much. I've written six responses now and deleted them, because none of them say quite what I want to say... which I guess is just a really loud and heartfelt thank you, that I'm so glad you like the story, and that your praise of my writing means the world to me.If you mark the story as a favorite, TPP will send out an email alert when I update. Thank you for following Second Life, and for this incredible review. xoxo
Well, at least now that Harry believes someone is on their side he will be more willing to believe that Severus was helping him when the truth comes out. I have always liked Luna. She seems to have a good judge of character. If it was someone else, they wouldn't trust Severus to help Hermione, though Hermione definitely needed the help. Plus, she's clever enough to come up with a reason for how she helped Hermione.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think so, too--if he's always suspected that someone was helping him, it won't be too hard to fit Snape into the gaps. I like Luna, too. I've always been fascinated with the fact that she is a Ravenclaw--and such a unique one. She's smart to trust him, intuitive to trust him. Thank you for reviewing!
wow you keep amazing me love bug thank you again i read the last two chapters together they posted quick this time and last time thnak you
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you are still enjoying it! Yeah, I was trying hard to keep to the original posting schedule, but I'm writing in real time now, so I expect to post one chapter a week now. :( Don't worry--I can't stop writing this story. It's just burning it's way out of me. :)Thank you for reviewing!
wow i was wondering how you were going to get the to the manner and out you are so good at this i am forever in your debt for brinign me such and awsome story thank you my dear
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad that you liked it. The Manor was a harder scene to write than I had anticipated. And thank YOU for being such an awesome and encouraging reader. *hugs*
I like the Luna Lovegood you show us here. And keep her idiosyncratic way to sneak out of a unwelcome situation by "staring dreamily at the ceiling".she is a darling. Realises everything, helps where she is needed and discretely withdraws when privacy is needed. she really has a charming character. and she deserves more attention, which you give her now.this fleure! she could have killed Hermione the way she took care of her. good that snape came round and repaired the damage that was done to his beloved.good to see, that there are more mourners at dobbys grave. he was wonderful.salva
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you like my Luna. I adore her in canon, and even though she is tough to write, I like working with her on the page. She's great fun--smart, intuitive, weird as hell... she makes me happy.I don't think Fleur meant to do the damage that she did; I think she was just totally unprepared for a whole host of refugees to show up in her yard. And while Hermione was trained to survive the war, Fleur was not. But yes, thank God Snape showed up. (Which should be the motto of the whole series, maybe)lol.I agree that Dobby outdid himself. Such a brave and true little guy. Thank you for reviewing!
Feel almost as exhausted as they do. I especially like what you have done with the wise, wise Lady Luna. No wonder she seems unfocused. She isn't focused on this world that everybody sees. She sees the world of magic that runs along side, in, under, around, and through ours. You have made her a very remarkable witch.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, exhaustion permeates, most definitely. I'm so glad you like Luna--that is exactly how I think of her--slightly focused on a world we don't see.Thank you so much for reviewing! xxox
Another wonderful chapter. I love how you give a nod to canon, but make it all your own.... And Luna! Love that she's in on the secret! Brilliant writing, can't wait for the next update!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! That really makes me so happy, you have no idea. I'm glad you see the story as distinct from canon. And I'm very pleased that you liked Luna. :)Thank you for reviewing!
