Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

What I wouldn't give for an unauthorized peek at your outline! But on the other hand, I wouldn't want to give up the roller-coaster ride. The trial is completely absorbing -- it looks as if Kingsley's trying to buy some time and build up sympathy for Severus before they get to the dealbreaker question of Dumbledore's murder. As for Hermione's and Severus' reconnection, it was incredibly intense, but not melodramtic -- the angst was completely plausible. Finally, I completely Luna! Pitch-perfect spaciness, then the killer line: "You can use whatever words you like, I suppose..." Now I'm on pins and needles about Dumbledore's testimony -- can't shake the feeling that the old trickster has at least one more ambiguous sleight of hand to perform.

Ah, the outline. How I love and detest it. :)I'm glad that you're on board with the trial--in some ways, I see Kingsley as the mirror to Dumbledore here, withholding and withholding according to the master plan. But the master plan is about to make its appearance, so let's all keep our fingers crossed! And I'm so glad you liked Luna! I'm in love with her. If she weren't so damned hard to write, I'd be writing Lunafic. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing,

Hmm, spontaneous surges of magic that override the squib bracelet that the Dept. of Mysteries developed. Either that's one powerful wizard or some really hot sex! They really needed that to reconnect with each other ... about time, too.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Hahahaha. Both? No, I was just gassing on endlessly about this to MollysSister--it's the subtheme of SL that sex (at least between our lovers) is a powerfully magical experience. There's almost always been a magical component to it. And yes, I think curtailing the magic of someone as powerful as Snape--there are bound to be some side-effects. Thank goodness there are no conjugal visits in Azkaban. Lord knows what might happen--mass breakouts, who knows? :)Thank you for reviewing,

Woops. I will pretend that I never read the last sentence or it will ruin the dreamy state I'm currently in. He will do what she ask of him. *happy sigh*. It was time he began to trust her with his life and with his heart. You know what: I've began to love thursdays.

I know. The posting schedule. I'm sorry. erg.But I'm glad that you liked this chapter--and glad you see his trust in her emerging. Thank you so much, Snitchette!

Oh Merlin's hairy little b*******, you're turning the torture of readers into an art form, aren't you?Excellent, most excellent. Especially since Snape finally gave in to Hermione. At least a tiny little bit.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, a tiny little bit. Little Snapey increments. And I don't mean to torture! Really, I don't! Ah, it won't be much longer now.Thank you,

Simply love this story! If I ever get myself a printer, I think this will end up in a place of honor right next to all the other Harry Potter books! (There's only one or two other fics that I've even considered printing...) So much to love in this chappie! I'm glad Severus' shell seems to at last be cracking, and just really hope Kingsley knows what he's doing (since he does at least claim to be on their side)... Liked the respect that Headmaster Black showed Severus as well as Luna's whole testimony. Wonder if Draco and Narcissa's testimonies are going to be for or against him: if they're going to be honest about the vow he made, or be like Lucius and try to twist things (to 'take him down with' them)... Am just guessing that Draco, at least, will be part of the next chapter. Looking forward to the next!

"What she asked of him, he would do. For a moment, that seemed very certain, and he wished he could cross the room and tell it to her. Whatever she asked."Brilliant. Finally, Severus understands what Hermione is trying to do.I don't want this story to end, but I know that it has to. Hopefully it will end in a way that we can all imagine them continuing their life together as their love grows ever deeper. This story is a real gift, Lariope. Thank you.

Exquisitely done, as always, and as always, you make me weep. You have managed to get this all so exactly right, including the details of so much different testimony and the way it must all look to an outsider.God bless Luna. She continues to be one of the most startlingly perceptive individuals in this whole business. Now we brace ourselves for the real heart of the case, the act that condemned him in so many minds. I do believe that Kingsley is slowly unfolding the case to accomplish exactly what it must. He has to give the whole of wizarding society a clear image of what Severus did and why, especially the worst bits and the things that seem at first to be heinous and unforgivable. Otherwise, they will never hear the nobility, sacrifice, and courage of his acts.I will be very interested to hear Dumbledore's testimony, especially on matters that may affect his own legacy. Will he tell the whole truth, I wonder? Is he even capable of doing that? He would rise a little in my eyes were he able to somehow repay Severus for all the enormously difficult things he asked of him. I am afraid, however, that he really did not value Severus enough and never learned, even from the tongue-lashings he received from both of the Snapes. You have done an utterly amazing job of delineating the conflicts within this astonishing marriage. I am deeply delighted that they are slowly finding ways to discuss (loudly and angrily for the most part right now, but it is still a discussion) what would make this unbearable for each and what could make it possible. I love that this seems able to restore his magic despite the bracelet. Her fears that love and magic are intertwined might be well founded, but it seems that he is slowly (agonizingly slowly!) regaining his ability to connect with her."She began to arrange her mind into quietness, to take the empty, burning anger and fit it into a dark corner of herself where she might learn to overlook it." In that exquisitely crafted sentence you have managed to encapsulate all the dreadful resignation that they might have been consigned to for the rest of their lives together if they were not--both of them--such strong and fundamentally courageous people. This continues to be an extraordinary piece of writing!

Thank you so much for the update, wonderfully written as usual!I am somewhat on the slope to forgive Severus for his recent behaviour, there where a moment in the bathroom where I had to take a break to prevent me from shouthing that he could take his woe-me-who-was-denied-my-death-as-a-tragic-hero act and stuff it where the sun don't shine, but at least I can see the hope that I migth be able to forgive him for his recent horrid behaviour towards the one who actually loves him. I am not quite there yet, but at least I see a glimmer of hope to get there....:-)Was Kingsley a Slytherin while at school? He seems to get things just they way he wants them without people realising that it was his goal all the time. For the Malfoys; they can't get off squeeky clean this time? Not with the information give so far about how deeply involved they were with Voldidork?(And you won't know how much I have longed and waited for this chapter:-))
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I don't think he's sorry that he was denied death. I really don't. I know I shouldn't say that, because you're absolutely right in your reading of him, and Hermione percieves it that way somewhat as well, but to me, Snape is just so... weary. And demoralized. When is the end of this, for him? he thinks. I don't know. But, hey, bash him with a frying pan. Someone's got to knock some sense into him!! I'm glad you are beginning to see hope. :)I agree that Kingsley is a fine actor with marvelously Slytherin tendencies. You know I hate the Malfoys. :)Thank you,

He could not explain the maelstrom of emotions that attended her testimony; he felt rocked with fury and elation and something that he could or would not name, something pale and delicate.Words fail me right now. The only thought running through my head after finishing this chapter was "Thank you,Lariope. Just ... thank you."

I just LOVE Luna!!!! And I somehow like Kingley and the games he's playing... And thank you very much for the tiny little bit of progress H&S seem to be making!!! Of course, I would really like to continue reading right now, so please update again soon.gab

Hehehe. Thank you, gab. I'm working on it! I'm so glad you are liking Luna and Kingsley! I am too. I think Severus would as well, if he could really see them right now, not just for defending him, but because of how like him they are in their own strange ways.Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Unfortunatley it took me 6hours to read this chapter because half way through it the school rang and said my son had broken his arm. Ah well priorities I guess. I truly enjoyed it though. Nice to see them both crack a little.

Her steadfastness is beginning to breach his defences, and he is willing to allow himself to feel hope. Your trip into their hearts and psyches is so deftly drawn that I am sucked right back into the heart of this story with every chapter, just as if I had read that last chapter yesterday. It's so well done, baby.

I like that Hermione was so insistent that she stay married to Snape and that she be called by her proper name. I think it will go a long way for Snape and their marriage as well as for the trial.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm glad you liked that part. It felt good to write it. And I think you're right, that he needed to hear her say it. He's so vulnerable in some ways, so constantly afraid. Thank you for reading and reviewing,

Allowing myself the luxury of re-reading ...WONDERFUL line:"She had tread so carefully; she had been so gentle, but now she had no patience left for a man who claimed to love her but was determined to break her against the wall of his own abasement."also"she began to arrange her mind into quietness, to take the empty, burning anger and fit it into a dark corner of herself where she might learn to overlook it."

I really enjoyed this chapter. The trial is riveting. I'm glad that Severus has finally come out of his funk! It's time for that bad old Dumbledore to finally earn some redemption by getting Snape off the hook. I'm anxious for more!

Wow, wow, another riveting chapter. I love the reconcilement of Hermione and Snape, it was one of the most capturing scenes of the story. And always with the cliffies. Sheesh. I'm always left wanting more of your story. It's an addiction.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I am really bad about cliffies, I know. But I think it's because I enjoy them when I'm reading, so I write them. Shame on me.I'm really, really glad that you liked this chapter, and the Snape/Hermione scenes in it. I am always most comfortable and most alive when I get to write them together. Even fighting, I find them electrifying in the brain, on the page... and I'm very glad you liked it. Thank you!

Now would be a good time for Albus to wake up. Great chapter, I loved the line of questioning and the witnesses as well as their replies. The court room scenes reminded me very much of fencing. Excellent job.

I am speechless. Words cannot describe adequately just how brilliantly written this is - the emotions portrayed in this, as well as the courtroom testimony. I think I can see what Shacklebolt is doing ... and I believe there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm sure you are going to inject further angst in the picture before this gets completely resolved.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm very touched by this, Lyn_f, thank you. I'm glad you have suspicions about Kingsley. :)And of course I am. I'm the angst-queen (tm). Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. It means the world to me.
