Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

BEST AUTHOR, Moste Potente Potions
http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_awards/33422.html
Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
Oh wow.Sounds like quite an outfit!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I hope so!
"There are those who only participate in revels, though. Women whose only desire is to please…." She looked up at that. His eyes pierced through her. "With the use of Polyjuice Potion. And Heart's Desire. And lust potions." She felt sick rising in her throat. "Because all they want to do is please… and there are those who are very willing and eager to be pleased in such a manner, and I am not one of those men."
Snape needs to come down from his moral high horse for a minute and wonder why Hermione felt that she would need to resort to polyjuice and other potions to make herself attractive to her husband. Has he forgotten seeing his own 'look of dismay' at Hermione's body when he performed legilimency on her, or has he not fully realised the repercussions that look would have on her self-image? He needs to make some amends.
I like your idea of how Voldemort controls his followers, feeding their desire rather than making them fear him.
Hmm, what was Hermione up to with the ring?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Because he's Snape, he's not at all cognizant of the effect his words are having. He's simply explaining his own bitter experience, and informing her.
Thanks for noticing that. I wondered if anybody would remember.
One of these chapters I may actually get around to explaining what Heart's Desire is.
Response from Hope24 (Reviewer)
Even though he's a spy, he can be typically male in his lack of preceptiveness! ;)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm not sure he's ever been a between-the-sheets-needs-to-be-sensitive-to-others'-feelings spy. Heh.
Amazing how the absolute right clothing can enhance and mature someone. I'm not talking so much "designer" clothes as "correct" clothes (taking into account occasion, body type and coloration). I don't think Severus had any clue what was going to walk out of that bathroom when he had her dress up.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
No, he had NO idea.
Lots of loveliness in this chapter! And I did like the explanation on Voldemort - and that Severus still wouldn't tell her everything. Looking forward to seeing what all this business with the rings was, too!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
More about the rings will come!
Interesting perspective on the Dark Lord. I haven't read about him using that approach on his followers before. It makes more sense than constantly torturing them.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
A dark conversation... a cashmere dress... ostentatious rubies vs. gifted rings... decoy thongs; goodness me it's like a particularly extravagant Hollywood production. And to think, that's just the one chapter! As always, I'm immensely enjoying the story, and I wanted to comment that I particularly like the way you have painted Voldemort and the way he controls his followers. It's a different (and perhaps more realistic) method of control than that which seems to be favoured--keeping those proud purebloods cowed through fear alone. Yet the point is made that everything, and everyone is secondary to the Dark Lord and his wishes.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much. I'm glad you found so much of interest in the chapter!
What a tease! Oh how I love this story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Great chapter, I wish I had the talent to take characrers, make them AU, but still have them 'in character' so to speak. I'm willing to bet that is difficult!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! For me, the first chapter was the most difficult because I knew what Hermione was going to be like, but I wasn't sure if I could capture Snape. I think I could go back and rewrite the first two chapters and make them better now that I've been with the characters this long, but I intend to leave them the way they are, anyway! Once I got into the story, though, the characters have pretty much dictated their own actions/reactions and I'm just trying to keep up with them!
I'm enjoying this story so much! I can't wait to see what happens next!! Thank you for updating so often.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you for reviewing often!
I'm so very happy you update regularly-- can hardly wait patiently for tea at the Malfoys. (And I'm really curious about the research regarding the circumvention of the Ministry rings.)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I update regularly because I have to keep writing so that I can find out what happens next, too!
And the ministry rings -- now, that's going to be fun!
What's spellwork is she doing with that ring???????? I bet we are not going to find out until after tea! I hope she pulls off a fab preformance at the tea... I am cheering really hard and loud for her!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You're right -- we won't find out about the ring yet....
Oh boy here comes trouble. LOL I love this story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you!
What in the world has she done with that ring? Good job distracting him with the knickers switch. *g*
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Time will tell what the ring will do (or at least what it's supposed to do).
Oh, why not wear the rubies? I'd have loved to see Narcissa's face when she showed up in rubies!I can understand the guys and the dress - but still a little glitter wouldn't have hurt?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I really did want her to wear the rubies, but somehow it just didn't work out that way, alas!

I really like some of the images you paint in this story. Can't wait for the Malfoys!
Author's Response: Thank you!
oo I loves a good update, i does (taken from the woman who loved a god hanging in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves because THAT would be one SEXY! Snarky! Snape)
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
LOL! You crack me up!
And thank you!
I think the reader can understand how Hermione has assumed that Snape would be reasonably unaffected by her proximity in bed. She seems fairly convinced that he does not find her attractive, so it makes sense that she wouldn't think of him being aroused by her.
I do love Hermione's mum. Very no-nonsense.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Plus -- Hermione read in a book that for a male to wake up with an erection is physiological and not sexual, so if it's in a book....
I'm glad you understood and accepted that. Sometimes I wonder if I'm pushing her innocence too far, but this simply isn't an area of experience that she's explored.
And I love her mum, too!
Response from Hope24 (Reviewer)
I don't think you're pushing her innocence too far. She's young, inexperienced and in a relationship with a man who has difficulty vocalising his feelings and has some emotional problems. Her bemusement at some of his behaviour is understandable. Hermione being Hermione, she resorts to a book to try and figure out what's going on. Totally in-character.
I'm pleased that Snape and Hermione now have a mutual friend/confidante - of sorts - who seems to have good insight into both of their characters.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Yes, I think Hooch has remained outside of faculty politics which makes her an interesting friend for them.
Oh this was sweet. I loved the tea at Hagrid's - but what'd she do to Harry?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You shall see...
OOooooh a Malfoy tea? If it were me - I'd pull a Moody! Bring Your Own Tea!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Good idea!
I am wondering if the point of the lesson--other than assessing Hermione's wandless ability and providing information for her to ponder--is to have her emotionally wound up? However, I cannot figure out why that would be advantageous. For the rest of my review I totally agree with Reviewer signed: aeron, and so I say "Ditto."
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
She learned how to (in an emergency) release the magic without exploding into a hex or worse.
Although the solution isn't all THAT much better than a hex.
(wink)
But you're right, it was more of an assessment for Hooch to figure out how to help her. More will come later.
Is anything good ever going to happen? The story just seems to go from angst to angst to more angst...What happened to the promised Friday night brewing of that "special potion" and their anticipated "Preparing. Bursting. Releasing." several chapters back?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Bludgeoned is Wednesday.
Tea with the Malfoys is Thursday.
And then... oh yes, Friday.
It is coming. The calendar does not lie!
I really do like your Hooch. That was good. I still have these great hopes for Hermione and Severus.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I have hopes for them, too. But they are running me ragged, trying to get them together.
Awesome, finally a Hooch character which is good. You made her real and not a plot device.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks. As I said in an earlier response, Zoe Wannamaker's Hooch was so vivid to me, it makes it fun to work with her.
Bwahahaha - Oh, poor Sev! I - ah... Another great chapter and I'm too stunned to even write a decent review to say how good this story really is! Out Dark Lord the Dark Lord! HAHAHAHA!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
::squeeeee!::
Ahem.
Thank you.
