Seventh-year student Hermione Granger decides to marry the one eligible wizard who did not ask for her--the horrid but powerful Severus Snape. All is not sweetness and light. Be careful what you ask for. Or, as has been said by many a wise witch, "Marry in haste; repent in leisure." MLC

Care of Magical Creatures recently received two awards on "Secrets of the Dark Vaults," a Russian fanfic site. Best NC-17 and Best Maxi Translation. The Nine-Year Plan was awarded Best Mini-Fic! I'm delighted to be in translation and to please the readers in Russia!

With the completion of Care of Magical Creatures my fanfic output is going to slow way down, but if you want to be sure to know when new fics post, please follow me on twitter. I don't tweet much, but I'll surely tweet that kind of thing.
About Mia
I came to the world of Harry Potter relatively early, after first resisting it because it just seemed too trendy. But when the first book came out in paperback in the US I picked it up at the airport when I was about to catch a flight, and two chapters in knew I would be ordering the original from amazon.co.uk in hardcover as soon as I landed.
I came to fanfic late, waiting until after I'd read DH. That means I've been totally obsessed with the fanfic world of Harry Potter, and most specifically the SS/HG ship, since August of '07.
I'm helplessly and hopelessly hooked.
Reviews for Care of Magical Creatures
Brilliant chapter.
Snape has fallen hard for Hermione! Wanting to hug her in bed, calling her his 'brilliant little warrior'.
I'm keen to learn what Hermione is planning to do with the rings.
Also really like the idea of Hermione having Hooch as a confidante. Her own friends are too immature, and she needs someone to talk to when things with Snape become too much. Hooch knows them both and so might be able to knock their heads together when they're being silly.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I've never paid a lot of attention to Hooch, but I think that's part of what intrigued me about her. She's in the background but I think she'd be able to keep up with Sev's snark, would definitely be strong in her own right, and might be enough on the edges to ignore faculty politics. At least, in my world, she is.
I was asked about making her a lesbian (the cliche of "gym teacher"/lesbian). Wasn't thinking in terms of that, as much as I was going with the flow of the dialogue and liking what happened when she pointed out that Hermione "wasn't her type." It was kind of fun, and also, just made her more interesting to me. So I hope I don't offend any lesbians by going with the stereotype; she's a terrific character and I like what's happening with her as I write her!
Wow the teachers are being jerks. I can see their point, but they are supposed to be professionals. Hermione has also opened her eyes a bit. Things are difficult all around, good job! This is the kind of reactions I'd expect from real people and that is hard to do.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you very much.
When i saw this chapter name i couldn't help but wonder if it was a reference to potter puppet pals? Maybe that's just my brain being random. Infact, it probably is my brain being random, but even if it wasnt intened I got some enjoyment out of the chapter name anyway. This really was a good chapter. Well done.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thanks -- and now I've got to hunt down "bothered" with the puppet pals!
Okay, now I've calmed down enough to write a review. Definitely read this chapter, screamed for ten minutes straight then giggled and jumped up and down on the spot saying disjointed things like "brialliant warrior wife! Snape! Ahhh! Hermione! Eeee!" Just so you know, this was one of my favourite chapters so far. We finally have recognition from Snape, and though he doesn't tell Hermione, it's still terribly fulfilling to know he knows, and to know he knows that she cares SO much that everyone notices. Now to make that queue move faster and see how Hermione is going to trick the ministry... and how what Hermione let slip to the other married couples is going to affect them in school opinion. Not to mention the staffs reactions to Hermione now that Snape stood up for her... and so much more... I read a review about twin tubs...?
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You know, as soon as those words "my brilliant little warrior of a wife" came out of his lips, i tried to take them back. Because in some ways they seemed just Not Snape. But I couldn't. He said them, and they stayed. So I'm glad you liked them.
I have a Live Journal blog where I wrote about washing machines (and "twin tubs" are a British thing, it turns out) and asked for help, etc.

I've decided to start reading your livejournal for so many reasons, not the least of which being the teasing peek ahead and the pictures. We used to have twin tubs when I was much younger, they came with the cottage in Linlithgow--as such, reading about them in your entry made me ridiculously happy.
wow great, just a perfect chapter here
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Wow, thank you!
It's so good to see Snape getting all defensive for Hermione. One would expect the staff - intelligent adults, presumably - to be more worried about the fates of their other students, but of course, that would be too sensible! I suppose it's okay if the girls get forced into sex by their husbands if the husbands are the same age as the girls... *sighs* That sounds utterly too realistical, unfortunately!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
The staff hasn't said everything they're going to say.
Wow, now *there's* an angst-filled chapter if ever I saw one!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, yes. I fear there is more angst ahead.
Oh boy, what a chapter! Poor Severus and Hermione. I'm interested to see how Hermione's plans will work out. Very intriguing.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! The next chapter is in the queue, and I hope her plans work out, too!
This story is absolutely amazing! I have been glued to my computer all day!
Please, please, continue it soon!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you -- I assume that means you read most of it consecutively? I'm relieved when somebody does that and the story holds up!
Response from prittee1 (Reviewer)
Yes, I did.
It made sense to me!
Keep up the good work.
This chapter is just so awesome that I don't know what to say about it. It has me speechless. BRAVO!!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! (Sometimes "thank you" seems lame, but I really mean it when I say it-- each review is so wonderful to read!)
He wanted nothing more than to crack open a bottle of wine, find a dark corner of the second best wine cellar in the South of England, and get pissed.
After the day they've both had, that sounds like a splendid idea!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Doesn't it just? LOL!
Oh, if Hermione could only have heard that. To be defended so brilliantly. My hope for them grows.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You make a good point. I hope that eventually she will hear even more from him.
What in the bloody hell crawled up Minerva's arse and died? Honestly, you'd think Hermione and Severus were rutting like animals on the staff table during dinner in the Great Hall the way she's carrying on. And Vector needs to get over her petty jealousy of Hermione and act like a professional. Way to go Severus for giving them a piece of your mind, you let them know they cannot treat your wife like she has the plague. I await the next chapter and hopefully our couple can enjoy some time together without any interruptions. I really do Love this story.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
That faculty is inside out, for sure! LOL!
Ah, this was wonderful! (blissful sigh) But I must admit, I 'was' really looking forward to the twin tubs (let them wonder what I"m talking about---hehe). But's that's apparently yet to come----not too far off, I hope! Did I mention I LOVE this story???
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you, thank you! The twin tubs are on the way!
Looking forward to the next chapter. I like that we got to see how each of the teachers are treating Hermione and Snape's reactions to their treatment but I am really anxious to find out (now) how Hermione is planning on tricking the ministry and Snape's interations with her when they meet again after this horrid staff meeting. Wondering if he will be overly pleasant, or simply get drunk and ignore it all for a bit.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Well, the next chapter is in the queue!
Thank you for your reactions. I really appreciate them!
That's our girl! Tricking the Ministry of Magic! Way to go our little Snapette.......... Have I told you have much I am enjoying this wonderful yard of yours???? Wonderful, wonderful stuff!!! And the way you write Snape...sigh....
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much!
Yes, she has her work cut out for her, but I hope she manages to do it!
Just so you know I have just spent the last three days of my life doing nothing but pouring over this story, and it was one of the most enjoyable uses of three days I have experienced in a long time.It has been years, perhaps a decade or more since I have indulged in reading a romance of any kind, and this was delicious, and beautiful, and of course romantic as hell. In short, it was a perfect reintroduction into the genre. A wonderful, heart-lifting story that you should be very proud of!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so very much. Writing this was an emotional experience, and I am very proud of it. Getting a review like yours warms my heart and thrills me.
wow, the plot thickens.more soon I hope!can't wait for the next installment.p.s. the A/N made me laugh!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad it made you laugh. I don't think I've ever written an A/N before!
Of course it was right. I love how you uaed that word, "simplied", after the disturbing sex acts beforehand, we could used some "simpling" around here! Yet again, another brilliant chapter.Livvy
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I'm glad you "got" it! Thank you so much.
Excellant, please continue
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you. The next is in the queue!
Was this changed? I thought I read it yesterday. I liked it, even reading it again.
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
I think there was a little glitch and it got validated twice.
However, the author's note was new! (LOL)
Thank you for liking it both times.
Loving this story... Snape is so Snape! Really enjoying Hermione's different background, and how it may correspond/be used with the Pureblood society. You have a wonderful way of breaking up the dark with humor, adding in heat, but the best is the emotional input. This chapter in particular, really grabbed me when she 'hurts' in her chest, and he finally notices his ache in the same spot, as if linked... just wonderful...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you so much for your review. It really does help to know that something I've written "works" the way I hoped it would. In some ways, these are the most difficult chapters, the ones that don't have a lot happening, but need to be there, and when I find a way to make it matter beyond just filling in a breach, I feel really good about it!
I have to say that I absolutely loved the smile scene - it was so very touching! I think I'll remember that for a while now...
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
And that makes me smile. Thank you!
Another wonderful chapter. I was touched by the fact that she thinks Severus doesn't smile enough (and the obvious reasons thereof) and that she felt for him that way. I was also touched by how he could show his feelings just a little bit in such a Slytherin-ish sort of way. Very nice job! I look forward to reading more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
Thank you! I'm glad you're still reading it, even when it's not assigned to you to validate! Squee!
What a delightful and lovely chapter. The calm before the storm, as it were. I can't wait for more!
Response from mia madwyn (Author of Care of Magical Creatures)
You must have "the eye." Yes, storm is on horizon. Thank you!
