After catching Hermione reading a romance novel, Snape urges her to write her own and offers to edit it for her. He doesn't think she'll actually do it, though.

I'm a 26-year-old Accounts Payable manager for a construction company. Basically, I'm paid to write checks and intimidate the menfolk around here. I live with my boyfriend and our dog. I wasn't sucked into the HP fandom until just after the release of HBP. So, I'm a newbie compared to most of the fans out there. I've written in several other fandoms (under different pennames) - Anita Blake, Buffy, X-Files, etc.

Interesting characterization of Snape, thanks for writing

Thanks!
Oooooo, I like this! " She wasn’t sure how he made her feel at ease and embarrassed at the same time." Perfect line! I can picture and feel it, know what I mean?
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
I've been there and done that. I think most of the guys I've had crushes on have made me feel at ease and embarrassed. It's a curse. Anyway, glad you're enjoying the fic!
Oooooh my... Wow! I'm with LotM - teasing us like this is going to get us to start waving some torches here.
This was very hot. I loved the flirting, and I loved the way you introduced the idea of your title and the novel writing, coupled with the idea of it being a joint venture.
It's quite novel to see Minerva so gauche. I do wonder why she feels the need to get Hermione to talk about the events leading up to her sorrow, instead of conversing on other topics also (or primarily).
I like that the rapport between Hermione and Severus is being built up on the basis of teasing, and friendships, and rapprochement. I can't wait for their physical chemistry to begin that same ascent to sizzling.
It's conflicting; on the one hand, stop teasing, because we want more, damn it! On the other hand, oh, god, good teasing, it's building up such a lovely simmer!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
I'm glad you're digging the fic thus far! I promise more sexual tension and further teasing in future chapters. ;-) In the next chapter, Hermione will finally realize that Severus is *way* hot. She just takes a bit longer to come around than we do.darth ada's response:
~nods~ Her grief has been covering her eyes (and ears!), poor girl. She's well overdue for that realisation.
Mmm, good... I think we can put up with further teasing if you (hint hint, nudge nudge) update soon! ;-)
Now, that's a very explicit overture from Severus. I hope she'll take the hint and answer accordingly (though you hinted at it in your author's notes).
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
She'll eventually figure out what we all know -- that Severus is pretty hot. Such a smart girl, and yet she's so dumb sometimes... ;-)
This story is really lovely. You avoid all the cliche traps and the characters are growing beautifully.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you! I'm glad I've been able to avoid the cliches (even if I like some of them). :-)
You TEASE!! You horrible, horrible tease!! *rants a bit, then starts gathering up torches to pass out to her friends* You'd better update soon, or we'll be lighting a hot fire under your cauldron!~Lotm
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
I bought the jump drive with the story home with me! I left it at work last weekend and couldn't update until I got back to the office on Monday. So, I promise another update before next Friday, queue willing. I'm afraid of the torches. ::runs and hides::
Response from ladyofthemasque (Reviewer)
*You discover torches in your hiding spot. They're also in the basement, the attic, and anywhere else that isn't the computer room or bathroom. But if you hide in the bathroom for longer than biologically necessary, they knock on the door and swoosh pointedly. If politely.*~Lotm*snerking & swooshing*
Wake up and smell the coffee Hermione, he's flirting with you! Hermione is so inexperienced its funny. Great chapter.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
She'll finally figure out that he's flirting with her, though she won't really believe it because she doesn't think Snape would ever flirt with anyone. Glad you're enjoying it!
Well, I am still very much loving this fic! I really love your characterization of both Snape and Hermione. Great job!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you! I'm very happy you're liking it so far!
very cute. I'm looking forward to the rest of the chpters
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thanks!
This is off to a great start. I enjoy reading about a playful Snape who still hasn't lost any of his sarcasm and bite.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
I'm glad you're enjoying it! Especially since this version of Snape was an experiment for him. I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull off a playful Snape who still has a bit of bite.
Lovely. I like a nice slow starter, and the OOCness is plausible. Off to work, or I would be more fulsome ;)
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
I have such a difficult time letting go and allowing the characters to be completely OOC. Even if they are going in that direction, I try to pull them back in with my IC magnet.
Response from maegwen (Reviewer)
That must be how you achieve a decent balance ;)
Well, he did make her smile:-) I really like this, and I hope you will update again soon!!!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thanks! I hope to have the next chapter uploaded early next week.
Good chapter, does Severus have any clue at all? LOL
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
The poor guy is going to get even more confused when Hermione start liking him in *that* way. ;-)
Great chapter. Nice to see that being nice comes more easily to Snape these days than it used to. Hoping for more soon.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Snape's a big old puppy dog deep down. ;-) Or at least I like to think so.
I love this. Poor Hermione, she is heartbreaking. And Snape? I love this version of him, but I am still trying to figure his motivation.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Glad you're enjoying it! Snape will start poking Hermione (no, not that way) about writing her own story soon. A portion of each chapter will be from his point of view, so hopefully that will give you an idea of where he is coming from.
Oh, I like where this story seems to be heading! It has a lot of potential! Can't wait to read more!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you!
Ooh, this is good, and I want more more more, but aaaaaaugh, when is he going to get around to thinking of asking her to write a lurid romance herself--and when is he going to offer to help her with researching the smutty bits???~LotmDon't make me get out my Mob of Irate Torch-Wielding Fans!!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
No, not the Mob! I promise more soon. And I promise snarky comments from Snape about how Hermione should be a romance novelist. And I also promise extreme embarassment for poor Hermione.
Response from ladyofthemasque (Reviewer)
Ooh, not too much! She's had a rough time of it, and needs to be treated more gently than that! (Snape needs to discover a secret, deeply buried heart of gold within himself soon. He doesn't have to share it with anyone else but her, but they're sooo perfect for each other...gahhh--you made me go all FanGirly!! *THBBBBPT!!*)UPDATE!!~Lotm
He smirked. “Were you missing Marco and his pulsating manhood?”
LoL! That was just, terribly funny. Love this story and I'm looking forward to the next chappie...
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Who knew Snape had a sense of humor! Glad you're enjoying it.
Writing Snape as angsty in this fic wouldn't work; with the war still haunting Hermione this badly, they'd never get together if both of them had serious garbage to wade through. Good call!
I like playful!Snape. He's rather charming, in an exasperating way.
*applause*
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
He's rather charming, in an exasperating way.Oddly enough, that's the story of my love life. They were all rather charming in a exasperating way. ::headdesk::
Great Chapter. I love the character development. Can't wait for more. Inimeitiel xxx
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying it!
This is lovely -- humorous and bittersweet. Does Snape end up marking a romance novel? I hope so.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Yes, it will eventually come to Snape marking up a few chapters of Hermione's work. It gets him all hot under the collar. ;-)
I am really enjoying reading the interactions between Hermione and Snape. They are just so very well done! I look forward to the next chapter!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you! There are loads more interactions coming up, so I hope you continue to enjoy it.
I'm enjoying your story and looking forward to the next installment. I like your Snape! At first, I didn't quite see how we'd have a proper Snape willing to read or proof romance novels, but I think you're doing a very good job with him. Thanks for your work!
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Thank you! I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying Snape. Usually, I write him quite differently -- more angsty and tortured. I wanted to make him into a typical male with a wicked sense of humor, but I also wanted to keep him somewhat in character. Hopefully, I pulled that off.
Another great chapter.
Will she be owling him one of her favorites???
Waiting for more.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
She'll be writing him something soon! Well, in a chapter or two she will. Snape is an impatient man. Anyway, glad you're enjoying it!
Hermione needs to read between the lines, but I guess she will soon understand where Severus' real interest lies.
Response from anogete (Author of His Infamous Red Quill)
Too true! Poor Severus has such a difficult time just saying that he has the hots for someone. Makes the bastard a pain in the ass to write.
