Reviews for The Iago Complex
Ooooh, Severus is so... 'Severus'--he's so obliviously careful--still a sweetie, but there are big warning signs looming on the horizon... Nott? gah! I would have surged in anger too--hehe! Things are heating up and getting complicated, and Hermione and Severus are making blind and rash decisions, insecurities will have full reign very soon if they haven't already... What lair are they both innocently walking into by accepting the Wimbledon invite? Can't wait!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
What lair indeed? And whose lair IS it? And what is Narcissa up to with her Muggle tennis coach? And will Severus apologise? Or should Hermione do so? And what on earth is the title of the story all about anyway...?!! Next chapter is on it's way...! Pxx Thank you so much for your wonderful and generous reviews, nag!
Now I've read it all--exploding peacock shit is a divine touch. And the Muggle tennis coach. And Lucius doing a Gene Kelly on us. HA! OMG... I have to catch my breath:-) And to top it all off, Hermione has used the 'b' word... Boyfriend, Severus, boyfriend--get used to it, sweetie! Delicious, brilliant chapter--as always!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ahh - the most surreal chapter, and a way for me to celebrate the sheer oddness of Lucius without his Narcissa. I was also keen to drop a little bit more of Draco's thoughts into the mix.... Pxx
Hahaha! *poor dears* Love Hermione and Severus' morning after-- couldn't help think of Hermione as an Alice in Wonderland with the 'Drink me, Professor' note- hee! The wonderland of Severus' bedroom *uff* I love their pedantic and undeniable chemistry, and I applaud Hermione from restraining to have to hit him over the head with a frying pan regarding the 'this'--no, Severus, you dear, thick sweetie-this 'this' is not going to explode in your face after all if you'll just *stay calm and trust Hermione*
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I was going for hideous awkwardness on both sides. The prompt called for a new relationship - and I wanted to add even more uncertaintly to the mix to emphasise how fragile their feelings were. And keep Severus over thinking things too, of course...! Pxx
Just am savouring every delicious, brilliant drop of this! With each new story of yours is another wondrous dimension of your skill and talent and delightful *Slytherin naughtiness*--lol! I know, I know, I bow down to the all-knowing, all-seeing Ravenclaw that you are (shoves Rowena & Helena over). I am just thorughly enjoying the different vignettes of Hermione & Severus intertwined with the Malfoys Thank you for such a yummy tale on all levels! Yum, yum, yum!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
It's true - I'm coming out as a Ravenclaw... by every single online crazy test that exists. But that's no excuse. Thanks entirely to fanfiction, I have become completely fascinated by Slytherins (and not for THAT reason!!). So this story is all about releasing the inner Slytherin that is probably hiding within the Ravenclaw interior. (Evil giggle) Pxx
Oh, this is soooo much fun! :D
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thanks!!! So glad you're enjoying it!! Next chapter will be up over next weekend.... Pxx
Severus is being stupid. Why wouldn't he want to acknowledge his relationship with Hermione, unless it's just about sex. Although, that's unlikely, I'm sure that's what Hermione must be thinking; that she's good enough to sleep with, but not to be seen with.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Yes he is.. or rather - he is being literal and naive. Hermione asked him to keep things quiet at the start of the story... so he is. And he is absolutely not used to this sort of thing at all, so he is behaving a bit like a prat. Pxx

I'm really enjoying this little tale on many levels. From studying and thoroughly enjoying Othello as part of my OU studies and going to Wimbledon for my birthday a couple of years ago. Coincidently I was there on Centre Court the middle Saturday and Mr R appeared the next week for the Mens Final. That experience was up there with seeing said Mr R live at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin the year before. I am spoiled but totally worth it! And I'm worth your incredibly wonderfully written story, she said with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Still wondering how far the Luscious Lucius is going to inveigle himself into their lives. Best wishes, Love Ali xxxxxxx.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ooooh - thank you! I've just seen the National's Othello and it was magnificent. Looking forward to weaving some of its themes into this story if I can without breaking away from the prompt. I've never met Mr R in the flesh - but I was able to see the lovely Mr Radcliffe in The Cripple of Inishman recently. Thanks so much for taking the time to review. Next week - Hermione goes for some advice and we see what Narcissa has been getting up to... and on top of...! Pxx

poor Severus, he can be such an idiot
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I know - bless him. I see this Severus as being inexperienced in this sort of thing. He overthinks things and does NOt want to be made a fool of. Hermione has not helped matters by not realising this. She was, after all, the person in Chapter 1, who asked him to keep it a secret.... thank you for taking the time to review!! Pxx
Lol, I love it! So in character!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you! *Bows low* Pxx
I really liked this story

Whew! Not that I didn't expect a happy ending, but I certainly had no idea how we were going to get there. And perhaps this was for the best. If they hadn't had to look into one another's minds, they might have danced around each other for months. :) Your Draco was consistently creepy through the very end. I like yout Lucius, his motivations, and the way he reacted to Draco in the end. I never like him, but I see him as less evil and more self-serving (even if that sometimes involves evil). This end was very satisfactory. I enjoyed it all the way through. I do apologize once again for taking so long to finish this. Trust me when I say it wasn't from lack of interest. This was a nail biter, for sure. I cant' want to see what else you've got coming in the future!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Draco was creepy. Deliberately so. I have not written a 'baddie' liek that before - although I did want to show how poor choices, the manipulations of his parents and the DL, and his awful experiences in prison (which Severus through not speaking up for him had actually allowed) could warp him into such a thoroughly terrible place. Hmmmm. Not sure this worked as well as I would have liked it to, to be brutally honest. the happy ending was always in my plans, but Iago got under my skin somehow... and morphed away from the light hearted tale into something much, much darker. Thank you for the prompt. It was a huge challenge for me and I found the process utterly fascinating. I hope that you will be able to read and review more in the future,
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
. Hugs. Pxx
Well, it's about time Nott spoke up, and he isn't very happy about any part of the situaton, is he? If he had confided in Hermione earlier, perhaps they could have formulated a plan. Of course, how does one release Severua from the Iago potion if Draco is not a willing participant? Maybe Hermione can just go have a girly chat with Narcissa, and convince her to get back together with her husband. Yeah, probably not. I am going to quit speculating and go find out!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Absolutely on all counts. Ive never written myself into a corner like this before. Just found that I'd put the pieces into play and then covered them in thick goo. Sigh. You'll see what happens next! Pxx
Yes, Lucius, after you've been yanking her chain and your son is getting handsy with her man, she is clearly in the mood to agree to an endorsement. What strikes me as funny here, is that while Lucius is clearly working for his own benefit, it doesn't even seem to occur to him that perhaps he is going about this all wrong. Can the Malfoys do anything with out manipulation and drama?! No need to answer that ...I still don't have clear picture of Theo in all of this. Is he on a side, or just a guy caught in the middle who knows too much? Its been awhile since I read the first chapters so I can't remember if we know that he has a thing of Hermione, or Draco, or anyone in this story, or if his motivation lies elsewhere.Surely Hermione won't leave the venue without Severus!!! Off to find out ...
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I found Nott to be the most interesting character in this story - I wanted to show that he was carryign a torch for Draco, that L and N had stamped on that a long time ago, but he still held out hope, no matter how damaged Draco had become, of rekindling something.... Over thinking again....! Pxx
My apologies ... I have not had a single moment to myself in forever. Although, I have to addmit that it is nice to be able to sit down and finish this thing in one fell swoop. No prolonged suspense for this gal. :) So, without further ado, I leave my first official review of the year. The tone of this chapter is so very concerning. I felt very uncomfortable right along with Hermione. Lucius is kind of smarmy, Narcissa is kind of bitchy, Nott is not forthcoming with any information (of course, who knows what he knows), and Draco, well, he continues to be creepy.Poor Severus, knowing that he has been drugged, but not having the clarity of mind to figure out the specifics, nor having the ability to overcome it enough to do anything about it. I hope if the strawberry comment is anything to go on, his knight in shinning sundress will come to his rescue soon.

!! It was lovely to hear from you again - so sorry that RL has been a pain. Thanks for your review - your prompt threw up so many challenges in my mind (I may have been guilty of seriously over thinking it!!), so this was the only way I could meet the stipulation that he should be oblivious to the Malfoy's machinations! Pxx
For a short while, I was wondering if Lucius was being held hostage to Draco's demands, but you thoroughly disabused me of that notion. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree it seems - and this particular one seems to have tainted worm reminiscent of the Black family madness.
Poor Luc, his "just give me what I want and no one will get hurt" philosophy has failed him once again. It probabaly never occured to him to just ask for her help without all of this, which is why he'll always be a bad boy.
Thank you for a marvelous tale.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I just could not write "nice" Slytherins in this one, but they all have motivation. AR once said to a small child that he didn't play villains, he played interesting people - and that phrase stuck with me! I have written more positive portrayals of Lucius and Narcissa in another story... but not here!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me! Best wishes, Pxx

I loved them here - they are very much what I think of as canon versions. In your hands, I pretty much enjoy every incarnation of HP character you come up with. :)
Absolutely brilliant

I feel so guilty about your nails!! Have you considered gloves? I hear Dragonhide ones give reasonable protection. Snigger. Thank you (as ALWAYS!) for your reviews during this fic!! Pxx
I just read all of this in one sitting. Excellent stuff. I love the portrayal of Draco in particular, what a nasty peice of work.

Hi
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
! Thank you very much! Yes - Draco was nasty, but then disappointment in love/power will do that to a chap.... *Shivers* Happy New Year! Pxx
Very good - and Draco was quite creepy

Thank you very much for commenting on the story,

! I'm pleased you found Draco creepy. Happy New Year! Pxx
Yay! for this very entertaining, twisty tale. Well done! I love that Severus and Hermione are holding hands while modeling the latest in hospital gown fashion.I wonder if Lucius will gain any bonus point with the Aurors because he protected Hermione from Draco's killing curse? I'm not sure he deserves any, because he might only have been protecting himself... he was willing to leave Severus to Draco's clutches if Hermione wasn't willing to sponsor him. I guess Narcissa will have to find herself another boy toy... or just put put with singing in the shower. And poor Nott will probably get to cool his heals in prison for a short while for aiding Draco. I still don't understand what he really did for Draco unless he truly helped him with getting the drug into Severus' food or drink. At the least I feel sure that Draco will probably spend a lot of time sitting on his prison cot fretting and blaming Severus and Hermione for all the bad things that happened to him. After all, "Tis within ourselves that we are thus and thus."Thank you for sharing this with all of us!!! Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
You see - you virtually guessed the whole thing in about chapter four... I was very worried!! I really fought with this one - and am very grateful for your enthusiastic support as each chapter emerged!! I'm working on something else now - I hope to have something ready to publish in a month's time. The clock is ticking...! Happy New Year, Beth! Pxx

"I'm working on something else now - I hope to have something ready to publish in a month's time." This is music to my ears!!!
Yes, you tied things up neatly. I'm guessing Nott was picked up as an accessory, or a witness? But I'm so glad things are back to normal.

Thank you,
