Reviews for The Iago Complex
The imagery of Severus rolling the concept of being someone's "boyfriend" around in his mind is hilarious. Love the update.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you! So pleased that you enjoyed it! I don't think Severus is going to find this easy.... ;) Pxx
Beware of Malfoys bearing gifts, even if one is a Malfoy. If Draco is Iago I hope he does not play his part too well.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ahhh... yes... There are wheels within wheels within wheels...! Thank you for the review - more next week! Pxx
Goodness, the description of the Manor is so disturbing. The Malfoys are nothing without their pompous air; oh how the mighty have fallen. And to be left for a Muggle tennis coach must have really been a blow to Lucius. But I did so love his Gene Kelly impersonation, even if it was only done in the name of yard beautification. Draco's thoughts about him made me laugh. I'd love to see some fan art on that scene, lol.And our favorite couple ... they are so tentative and fumbling, but with more of an endearing feel than an awkward one. I love it! And yes, I am fairly certain that using the B word on Severus would freak him out a bit. But what is she to call him, afterall? The only problem I have reading your chapters is that I just want more, more, more! *is ridiculously greedy and impatient*
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I'm so pleased you enjoyed the chapter. I had a clear image in my mind of Lucius dancing across the lawn and wanted to give him a reason for doing it! More is coming soon! Back to Hogwarts for a memorable breakfast.... Pxx
Oh, they're both just so endearingly clueless and awkward. Hermione and Severus I mean. Although Lucius strikes me as fairly clueless, too. And Narcissa has run off with a *tennis instructor*? How delightful! I look forward to learning how these two scenarios engage.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you! I am so pleased that you are enjoying the story. The tennis coach is coming... but not for a few chapters...! Severus and Hermione are both stumbling towards each other. Not sure it's going to be plain sailing.... Pxx
haha! Boyfriend?! Hmm! I like his angry grading, although he's mellowed over time, I think! You're also giving me some grading ideas....I just love the way you describe Draco's perspective, for example, that "alien" sturcture, the tennis court! You make his perspective shine through in the way you shape the language of the story surrounding him. Great! But even better ... the tennis coach lol!

! I am so pleased that you enjoyed the chapter, and in particular Draco's perspective. I set myself the challenge in this story of writing no more than 1.5K words per chapter - and that has made me really focus on the words I'm using and cut out anything extraneous. I hope it's working!! Pxx
Tennis coach? Really? What got into Narcissa? (Maybe the tennis coach...?)I can't wait to see what sort of plan Draco has in mind to bring his mother back to his father. Bless his heart, Lucius isn't handling this well.Ximphatic Aromena is a great play on words... yeah, I had to google it. LOL!Hermione should send Severus an owl the next time she's running late. His students are catching hell—all except for D'arcy Godfrey. My favorite part is when Hermione bussed Severus on the cheek and called him her boyfriend. Poor man is not used to anything going his way, is he?Thanks for a lovely chapter! Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hi Beth!! Thank you for taking the time to review this chapter. I had a feeling you'd get the Ximphatic Aromena joke! Lucius is not handling Narcissa's fling well -- but perhaps Draco does not only have his father's best interests in mind...? More next week. Pxx
Who couldn't love a pair of vignettes like that? Thank you for the smile.hm88
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
You are very welcome! Bows low. Pxx
First, please know that I am reading your chapters as soon as they post, because I can't wait to see how this plays out. It just takes me awhile to find the time to sit at a computer and write a proper review. ... the worst hangover she could ever remember experiencing since the Victory Party of 1998.Sounds like a story waiting to be written. ;)She next saw herself order a brandy to keep up with his Firewhiskies. Oh dear! This seems like such a excellent bad idea.I love how quickly they hook up and the desperation (they can't even make it to her room!), but still, it didn't feel rushed or unrealistic.I love how you've written the morning after. It's the perfect combination of awkward and embarrassing, but neither of them really seems to regret it. Well, except for having to face one another. And their collegues. It really is debateable if it looks worse going to breakfast together, separate, or not at all.And then they come to a sort of understanding (after the worry!) with Hermione's comment about wanting a "this." I thought it was just perfect.Oooh, now I am dying to see what's next. *checks calendar* Damn, Monday!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hi! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter -- I was worried it was a bit too angsty! I'm trying to keep a balance between humour and emotional honesty in this one, and it's an interesting challenge to do so.... Next chapter is ready to post on Friday - back to the Malfoys this time! ;) Pxx
This is quite lovely. But of course we've come to expect that from you after Anima Mea and all the others. I'm still a little worried about Draco and Lucius messing with this fragile, new relationship. Yolur title certainly gives me pause....
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you

! Lovely to hear from you again! This was a corker of a prompt from HBAR. For a good while the title of the story was "The Impossible Prompt" (all will become clear at the end of the tale!) - but I finally found a way to nail it (I hope!) and I really hope you enjoy it. Draco and Lucius are a considerable threat - but I think Severus and Hermione are just as capable of messing things up royally without them.... Next chapter will be up on Friday. Pxx
I absolutely love how you portrayed their morning after... all their second thoughts, and especially Hermione's reaction when she "suddenly remembered absolutely everything in appallingly specific detail."My favorite part, though, was when told him she hoped there would be a "this." Sweet!Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you - I wanted Snape to be unsure and slightly baffled but hopeful here, without losing his bitterness. Snape's inner voice is a great challenge to write. Thank you for reviewing. More Malfoy next week! Pxx
He had been his usual self – sharp tongued and snaggle toothed.
arm in unsteady arm.
His... Oh, bloody hell. Had she really begged him to…? Had she howled? Oh, Merlin – she had bitten him!
These bits and more are what makes your story so relatable. Thanks for the up date!

! i am so delighted that you are enjoying the story. More coming soon! Pxx
Great set-up from chapter one to this! Loving it. And I am intrigued by Nott's smile....
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you! More plotting Malfoys next week.... Glad you liked Nott's smile. That's coming back as well....! Pxx
Poor confused-yet-hopeful Severus.I look forward to seeing how they weather the imminent Malfoy interference
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Same again!!
Poor confused-yet-hopeful Severus.I look forward to seeing how they weather the imminent Malfoy interference
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ahhh... I think they have more to weather than the Malfoys.... Thank you so much for reviewing! Pxx
I also loved, first, the short snapshot of Hermione and Severus (presumably, re. Hermione). I agree, you gave us so much of them in just a few lines. Expertly done. The Malfoy's, though, leave me with a kind of reader awe, the way you blend their background and personalities with that "home life" kind of setting and their familial interaction. Just really well done. Oh, and the emotional blackmailing of one's parent; I'm intrigued and unsettled all at once by Draco! Can't wait to read further!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I am DELIGHTED that you like ny take on the Malfoys. The prompt was pretty specific and required 'comedy' as well as nefarious deeds. Phew! Anyway... more SSHG next week as we learn how they got together in the first place, before the return of Draco and his father. And peacocks. Ob...viously. Pxx
Oh, Proulxes... I had resolved to quietly fade away from ff, as other things keep demanding my attention... but I made the fatal mistake of browsing the queue here. How could I possibly ignore a new fic from you? You have painted the Malfoys exquisitely... and left us dangling in your own characteristic fashion.I'm afraid I'll have to come back for more. Maybe in a week?Good to see you back!hm88
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hi, hm88!! Wonderful to hear from you and I am so pleased to have arrested your fading from the fandom!!! thank you for your thoughtful review. the next chapter will indeed post in a week's time and hopefully (barring any incidents / acts of God etc etc) the rest will post weeky after that. I am pleased that you think I have captured the Malfoys well - they were a big challenge to write. Back on safer ground for more SSHG next time, before the return fo Draco and his father. And plotting. Lots of plotting...! Best wishes, Pxx
Yippee!!! *Squeals with delight* You have the Malfoys spot on. What trouble those two could get up to when left unattended. What was Narcissa thinking, lol? And do I love your Severus and Hermione, even though we've seen very little of them? Absolutely.I am going to be waiting (not so) patiently for more, more, more *is greedy*
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
*Squees* back at you. I am so sorry it has taken so long to get this thing into a sufficiently sensible condition to post! More Severus and Hermione next time. Posting weekly until it is done!!! Pxx
Lovely, very neatly done! I am looking forward to more, all the while hoovering between annoyance and pity concerning Malfoy Sr and Jr, because you described their state of mind so precisely with just a few words. Thank you!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you,
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
!! HBAR's prompt was a real tester - and I also set myself the target of 1.5K words per chapter to force myself to write sparingly... Next chapter will be up on Friday! Pxx
Iago Complex... hummmmm. Very interesting beginning to a very intrestingly titled story! Just who will be the real Iago?Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hi Beth! Thank you! Aaaaaannnd with your typical perspicacity, you've hit one of the nails on the head! Glad you enjoyed the first chapter. More soon. Pxx
So good already.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. More next week! Pxx
LOL. "So, so stupid" indeed.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Deeply and irrevocably! Thanks, snapify!! Pxx
Thrilling story, thank you!
Ooooh, creepy! I'm guessing we're not going in the 0T3 direction here ;-)
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ahhhh. No. No. Nonononononono. On many, many levels. No. HA! Snort! Although....???!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me and I am sorry it took so loooong to respond. RL is being a complete pain at the moment! Next chapter is in production and will be up next week. Pxxx
Hermione's towel rail makes me giggle
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thanks!! I had a towel rail that behaved a bit like that when I was at Uni....! Pxx
It's tough enough figuring out what to call most grown men in that role, but Severus as 'boyfriend' is hysterical. Peacock shit - hee!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I know... I was sniggering (a bit!) when I wrote that. I am so glad I made you laugh! the story will get darker though... Pxx
