Reviews for The Iago Complex
Awww, I love a shagged and embarrassed Sev
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Me too! I am really interested in his emotional response to intimacy. I want tot keep him in character and true to canon as far as I can... but in this story I am called upon to make his reponses not quite as I have written them before, as you will see.... He is about to behave in a not quite Severus sort of a way.... Pxx
It sounds like Draco's grapes may be a teensy bit sour. Such an intriguing beginning you have.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you!! His grapes are indeed sour... deeply so...! tahnk you for taking the trouble towrite to me!! Pxx
Indeed, how will he do it? It seems like Draco has some sort of control, small or large, over every one in this story- including his mother. Who is Iago? Could it be that there is more than one Iago in this tale?Brilliant!!!!!Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thanks Beth! I'm working hard on the final chapters... When the plots will become clearer and the finale will play out. *Waggles eyebrows* Pxx
I don't believe for one minute that Lucius Malfoy is so fit that he climbs the stairs with no issue. He is just rich enough to afford some elusive never-out-of-breath spell. :) Lucius is creeping me out, but in an entirely different way than Draco. Surely Hermione will assert some dominance soon. Come on, I love some good ass kickin, even of the verbal variety. And I'm still not certain the purpose of Nott. I know he has one because you are not an author who would make someone so prominent only to have him not matter. I mean, he served his purpose as a source of jealousy between Snape and Hermione, and he gave them a way to not end up as each other's date for the tennis match. But, I still think there is more. I feel a bit better that he is with Hermione and Lucius as the third wheel, even though his motives aren't entirely clear. Safety in numbers, at any rate.So the happy ending is that the elder Malfoys reignite their passion, Draco and Narcissa's Muggle toy decide that they are both too pretty to not be together and run off for some fun, allowing Snape to come out from under Draco's spell, and they all live happily ever after. The End.But no, you just left us hanging. As always, lol. I'm really intrigued and excited to see how we proceed.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Mmmmm... I like your thinking...! But... Lucius can't be that transparent... And just why was he so irritated to find Nott accompanying Hermione anyway....? Working hard on the finale now, and hopefully you will be pleased with the results! RL keeps slowing me down but it's all plotted out - I just need to write it! Pxx
Awww, I feel so bad for Severus and a little afraid for Hermione.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Don't worry,
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
! It looks grim at the moment, but I believe in happy endings (and retribution... and redemption... and Rioja...). More to follow soon... Hermione's got to realise that something is up soon! Pxx
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Your version of Draco is creeping the hell out of me. I can hear you now, quietly muttering, "mission accomplished." :)The idea that someone can pull such a thing over on intelligent, powerful, hyper-vigilant Severus Snape is concerning indeed. I'm sure I know a bit of Draco's motive for his control over Severus, but I wonder how much deeper it runs. So many questions! Early in the story I wanted to reach through the screen and shake Severus and Hermione. Now I want to throttle Draco for interfering. And for being creepy, lol. Loving the!

HI
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
!! Great to hear from you! I hope you don't mind me mangling your prompt O.o....! I just couldn't do this thang without a baddy... and a hopped-up, creepy crawley Draco Malfoy seemed to fit the bill. Working on the last few chapters now as we hurtle towards... what?!!! Pxx
Hermione is so far out of her depth--surrounded by slytherins, every one of which seems to have an AGENDA!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Oh yes. Every one of them. She is exactly that... But she'll rally. Next chapter gets a bit darker as we see more of what Draco is up to. Thank you so much for your review! Pxx
Poor Snape can't catch a break, can he? Apparating into a bush ... the mighty have either fallen, or are smitten and angry and therefore distracted. Don't tell him, but how much would I love to see a picture of that?!When they met up with Lucius, I was sort of glad that Hermione had Nott with her. Not that he is the most upstanding citizen as evidenced by his readiness to step in and wreak havoc on this fledgeling relatiionship, but at least I think he would have her back if Lucius tried anything. Maybe. There seems to be some sort of tension between these men. Not sure what that is about. And for some reason, I want to attach hidden meanings to everything that comes out of a Malfoy's mouth. Perhaps it is justified, or perhaps we've just been burned by the Malfoys one too many times to trust them. It's too bad that there is no privacy to be had for Severus and Hermione to hash out their misunderstanding. I can't wait to see how the rest of this event goes, and if everyone is still standing by the end. :)
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Yes - poor chap... he is distracted... and then even more so by the end of the chapter, I think. Nott is an interesting character and I wrote him in to keep you guessing! :) I was deliberately trying to keep our heroes apart so that I could do proper justice to all of your prompt (heh-heh). More soon - probably in a few day's time. I'm writing as fast as I can! Pxx
The plot thickens. Or would that be the plots? I think tennis is not the only game that will be played at Wimbledon...Enjoying this!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Oh goodness, there are plots aplenty here. Nothing is quite as it appears, and each Slytherin has something on his (or her) mind.... I'm so pleased you're still intrigued by the story. Game on! Pxx
Oh the poor man, he's absolutely seething. Lucius was surprising, and his having a membership pin - did he get it legally ot by magic? lolJust a little thing. Question, I thought, and I'm quite certian that Nott was in Hermione's and Draco's year at school, so why did he say he was a year behind?Great chapter, I truly loved it.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ahhh-haaa, how Lucius became a member is quite pertinant to the plot, you'll not be too surprised to hear. Membership of the All England Club is strictly controlled and guarded with levels of secrecy that would rival MI5. Nott was behind Draco in House in that he was not a prefect (in my world anyway)... and also that there was something else between them as well -- I didn't mean that he was in the year below. There will be more on Nott and Draco's relationship later! Pxx
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Clearly I am a complete berk as I have indeed written that Nott was in the year behind Draco in school. I am about to scuttle off and sort that out. Cheers, m'dear! Pxx
Oh Merlin but his reaction to Pomona's news is pricelss!so when did Draco take the mark - at 16 or 17? I do hope you tellat some point what you think it was. Lovely chapter and I can hardly wait to see him stweing at the match!
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ha! I knew you'd ask me that... and I'm hanging on to my thought about it for now. He is not on tip-top form at the moment and Pomona's teasing wil not be appreciated! Glad you liked the chapter, sweetie! Pxx
a good thing Hermione has brains, hopefully Severus will not spoil their "thing"
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Yes - they are not working perhaps as clearly as they are going to need to right now -- but she will start to demand answers soon enough. Severus is... not himself at the moment. Pxx
Oh my. Games are definitely afoot. Is revenge also in the air?Looking forward to reading more soon--hm88
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ah-haaaa, hm88! *Taps nose and waggles eyebrows* More is coming soon.... thank you so much for your review! Pxx
All this utterly Slytherin powerplay carried out with utmost care and politness ... I'm waiting Hermione to crack any moment now and demanding stright answers, manners be damned :D
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
She's nearly there, but surrounded by Slytherins and rather overwhelmed. There are various plots and ploys taking place and her nature will demand answers soon enough! Pxx
Lucius is definitely up to something in regards to Hermione. Theodore definitely knows something; why else would Lucius be unnerved by him. Not sure about Draco's role yet, if he has one. Seemed odd that he was able to calm Severus down like he did. This chapter definitely raised more questions.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hi
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
! In and to your review: Yes, Lucius is up to something. Yes, Nott knows more than he's letting on (and there's more in their back-story than currently meets the eye). Draco... Draco has something on his mind, and at his fingertips. More to come next week... Pxx
...there are insufficient balls in play for it to be truly diverting... Ohhhh, I don't know. Beneath all that very polite small talk, I think there are balls aplenty at play here. And not all of them of the tennis variety. LOL!Take a bow, m'dear. This story gets more delicious with each new chapter. Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thank you, Beth! More awful tennis puns to come I'm afraid, as I try to marry humour with angst in an unholy alloy hangst? Humgst??! The next chapter will be up soon! Pxx
I'm a little confused, he has been avoiding her for days, not speaking, hiding behind newspapers and so on, and he is still expecting to go with her?
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Yes, he does. They had both been invited separately, as their new relationship was a 'secret' (although it had been assumed by Lucius that they would accompany each other becasue Nott had tipped Draco off that something was going on between them. Severus is hoping to apologise to H in a brisk and businesslike manner before escorting her to London. He assumes that she will wish to 'move on' as he does in the face of an impending social engagement. Severus does not know how to react to Hermione after their row. In this story he is pretty inexperienced in these matters and the last time he tried to confront a girl about an argument it ended in losing everything - so he is trying another tactic (which is also rubbish, we can see that!). He has assumed that she won't bring anyone (which is outrageous and stupid of him) but if you noticed, he did not ask Nott either - he was surprised that Hermione had on the very day they were due to go to meet Lucius. So he had taken on board her anger at his suggestion that they each take another partner to Wimbledon during their argument. It's probably also worth saying that she had not really pushed him to reconcile their difficulties and resolve them either - being almost as rubbish at such matters as he is. I HOPE that this makes sense, mick! More soon.... Pxx
Response from mick42 (Reviewer)
You are the author so if you say so, so be it, but there is inexperienced, and then there is just plain dumb as a box of rocks, and Severus has never struck me as dumb.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
He's not dumb in the intellectual sense... But he did hold a torch for someone who went off with the man who bullied him unpleasantly for years and stuck to his role of protecting her son for years.... So there is something not entirely rational about him. I'm sorry if I've pushed this too far for you as a reader - authors should just fold their arms and blow a raspberry, saying "whose the author??" or something like that. I'll take the criticism absolutely willingly and thank you genuinely for it. There is something else underpinning Severus' nerves about meeting Lucius again which might also explain his attitude. Scratches head. Will try harder to keep things believable. Please do keep giving me the feedback, mick!! Pxx
Response from mick42 (Reviewer)
I have a great respect for all the authors that post here, and if this has to be this way for the purposes of your story ok, but Severus Snape is in his forty's, and has not exactly lead a sheltered life, not only has he been a spy but he has also been head of house for Slytherin for half his life. He would have had to deal with all kinds of things from the students, both male and female, that should have given him at least an inkling, that it's not a good idea to just ignore a woman you have just had a row with, and then expect her to behave as if nothing has happened.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
No problemo, mick! As I said, I absolutely take your comments on board and will endeavour to address the issues you raised. Thank you -- I really welcome constructive criticism. Let me know if you think I'm still waaaay off or I'm getting it back. :) Pxx
Narcissa is learning a lesson that comes to all of us eventually, all those well toned muscles can only hold the attention for so long, before boredom sets in. Say what you will about Lucius, {and I have } he is not a bore.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Aaaaah... yes, isn't it always the way? The prompt for this story was fascinating and very, very tricky (which is why I haven't published it yet) - so the story will twist and turn. But now I have assembled the Slytherin pieces, with their conflicting and overlying wants... I'm almost ready to 'serve'... More ghastly tennis puns to come, I'm afraid! Pxx
I think Hermione's made a mistake in her interpretation of what Severus was trying to say. He never did get past Nott's name before Hermione lashed out. Which would explain why Severus looked hurt by what she did. I think she does need to apologize, but I also think she's within her rights, especially if Severus didn't want to be seen with her. I have the feeling he's not going to react well to seeing her at Wimbledon with Nott.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Ohhhhh, yes. On every level. They have both jumped to the wrong conclusions about each other - with the added problem of their past histories (Lily / Ron), and their mutual awkwardness in relationships (neither have much experience). Next time we start to see a little more of Draco's plans.... Pxx
A "delicious thrill"? Sounds like Narcissa is not done with Lucius.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
I think some people are just... Made for each other, don't you? *wicked grin* Pxx
This is hilarious, love it. Would love to have seen Severus' face as he was dumped on the floor.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Brilliant! Thank you for letting me know that you enjoyed the chapter,
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
! I'm sure it was a picture.... Pxx
Go for it, Narcissa! It seems not all hope is lost for Lucius, and with Narcissa back I can't see her supporting a match between Draco and Hermione, even if he fancies her. Which should be good for Severus, who will bungle this relationship, if left to his own devices.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
You know, I will admit to a sneaky enjoyment of writing Narcissa. And yes, Severus will mess this up spectacularly if he succumbs to his assumptions about matters.... Waggles eyebrows suggestively.... Pxx
Delightfully awkward and embarrassing, for both parties, they seem to have reached a calm harbor for now, but what will happen when "Hurricane Malfoy" hits.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thanks, mick! Things will definitely not stay calm for long.... Oooohhhhh. Snort. Pxx
The plot is thickening as we speak! I needs more of it, moar! :) You do a great job with all the character voices. Narcissa is priceless.
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked Narcissa. I am always picturing Charlize Theron for some reason when I write her...! Pxx
P, you are really outdoing yourself in this fic. The tidbits of "business" undergirding the action--little Lily wrestling her mom for a bit of fruitcake with tea... the off-key lover in the shower wearing on Narcissa's last nerve--bring the story to life in such a vivid way. Beautifully executed! Thanks for posting--hm88
Response from Proulxes (Author of The Iago Complex)
Hello, hm88! Lovely to hear from you. I'm blushing a bit as I type this. Thanks for your very kind words. This story has been fun to put together and I've set myself some challenges on the way, so I'm really pleased you are enjoying it. Pxx
