In spring 1980, Severus Snape hears a portion of a prophecy that will change the course of wizarding and Muggle history. The Dark Lord must choose a boy, but which? Snape is sent to discover the boy’s identity, but the answers he seeks are not to be found in his world. Rated M for violence and eventual sexual situations. SS/HG.

Twentysomething lover of Harry Potter fic. I have served as a beta (btw, i am P.I. accredited) for many authors, and welcome the opportunity to do more. I also serve as co-moderator of the LJ community ptterpr0nprmpts along with the fantabulous tonksinger.
I've been around the fandom for a long time... probably since 2003. I've spent most of it lurking, but published some stories under an old pseudonym. Upon entering the fandom, I immediately became a fan of the Snape/Granger pairing. I prefer Hermione to be a bit older, but have been known to deviate from that preference. Other ships that I prefer include Draco/Ginny, Draco/Harry, Snape/Lupin, and Snape/McGonagall. I am open to most ships and recommendations, as ultimately it is this universe that I love.

Interesting look into their recent past. I think it is always hard to see your portion of fault in things because you just can't step back to see the big picture when you are so involved. Harry must get tired of being the friend in the middle. I think his letter was diplomatic enough to not ruin their friendship, but harsh enough to get Hermione thinking. While I love SS/HG together, I happen to be a Ron fan, and I love it when authors don't bash him. He has his faults for sure, but they are part of what makes him who he is. I will be interested to see what happens when she puts some thought into what Harry has said.

not to mention canon!Ron is like... 18. most 18 year old boys are jerks. i have no doubt he grows up well. and yeah, harry was harsh, but i honestly think hermione doesn't listen otherwise :p

Time travel always makes my head hurt. So, if this is a continual loop happening over and over, why won't Snape know who Hermione is when she attends Hogwarts? Does something happen to his memory? Or maybe he does know her at school, but you'd think he would treat her a bit different. Oooh, I can't wait to see how this all plays out!Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I love the parts where they console each other. It was a nice little emotional and physical moment between the two, but wasn't out of character given their respective situations. Love, love, love it.

How very bizarre to read about the things you have not yet done. Not that the entire situation isn't bizarre in and of itself. Intereting to see what Rita put in her book. Now, about finding a way to make things happen as they should and not die ...

The last two chapters have been heart rending. I do so hope for a happy ending - both for Hermione and Severus.

The sadness and longing of poor Sev that week waiting until he could meet with Voldy was so tangible--loved him beating the s*** out of the carpets--absolutely!“Well done,” the Dark Lord responded, “exceedingly well done. -- HA! The brilliance of this brilliant original plot bunny plot bunny is as maginficantly wonderful as the detailed narrative and dialogue throughout; in particular, this crucial scene between Voldy and Sev just gave me the goosebumps-wonderful!!!there was something molecularly evil within this man.-- yup, that's it, just love the phrase 'molecularly evil', and the futility of Severus' situation with the madman.... *heavy sigh* stopper, this is such a brilliant piece of rich, intriguing work - and the delicate layering on and revealing of Sev morphing into the spy and wizard we all know and love--just a wonderful experience!

This was a fun chapter! I can see Hermione taking pity on him and not sticking him to the couch, but she left the attic unwarded as well? Perhaps she wanted him to find his portrait? It would freak you out a bit to find a shrine to yourself, especially when you don't think/know you deserve one. And does young Snape have memories of his older self because he's been here before? Damn you, time travel! *shakes fist* I can't wait to see what his portrait self has to say.And Ron ... :(
Response from astopperindeath (Author of Yet Everything Stays the Same)
Actually, she didn't leave it unwarded. He used a bit of uncontrolled/childhood magic to unlock it. And no, young Snape has no memories of this because it hasn't happened for him yet. Portrait!Snape will remember it because it's already happened. And yes, Ron. I don't like Ron bashing. That's half of why this story got written. If Ron's a jerk in canon, usually there's a big reason for it. Just bashing him for the sake of it drives me crazy.

Oh, there is so much to love here. Hermione calling him a baby Death Eater, her deplorable lying skills, her discomfort regarding horny young Severus. And she never did answer the question.I can't wait to see what goes wrong (as well as what goes right) next!

Lonely, bored, desperate, drunken Snape is a dangerous thing, huh, Hermione? I love how thorough she was in ridding every trace of the date, and he still found a way around it. I guess she doesn't know him as well as she thinks. He concludes that they aren't dating and points out their age difference. I actually expected that his reasoning for throwing out the possibility of that kind of relationship was that if he were seeing her, she would not need a vibrator, LOL.I am totally loving this, by the way.

I don't know if this is more frustrating for Severus or Hermione. She isn't telling him anything, so how is he supposed to make a decision in how to proceded with his plan? Who won, why, and how are all very important in what he chooses to do, but could his decision alter this future? As for Hermione, I really thought that she was going to tell McGonagall either because she trusts her, or because she let her mouth run away with her. Wrong on both accounts. And just what is portrait Snape not telling us?

She had lost count of how many times she had rebuked a young witch or wizard (or Arthur Weasley) for setting the counter on fireHa!Vanishing the can to wherever it was that Vanished things went. Where do things go?!?! Someone should write a story ...I love the idea of Hermione reading Muggle fantasy to see how close or far off the author is.And how astonishing to have him appear there in her very home. What should she do with him? What can she do with him? What a decision to make, and definitely difficult to reconcile the Death Eater before her with the man she knows him to be. Oooh, this is getting good.

I seriously wonder where Vanished things go to. It keeps me up at night :p. Glad you're enjoying this!

Poor Snape. I am exhausted just reading about how tired he is. Now that he has made friends with Dobby, I hope he is able to utilize him in the future. And, I assume since you are sticking with canon that he won't run into himself because he is no longer around. But who knows. Time turner fics really mess with my head. But in a good way. I like the idea of him going forward, and I can't wait to see how this plays out.I have to say that your Voldemort is giving me the chills. I don't know what it is about him specifically, but he is just spot on creepy, menacing, and crazy, just as he should be.Oh, it just occurs to me that Dobby isn't around either. Damn. Are you really sticking with canon? Perhaps things are different in this future? *scratches head* I suppose Hagrid is still around, so that's something. Oh, and Hermione. I mean, it would be wrong to waste perfectly good prophylactics, LOL.Great chapter!
Response from astopperindeath (Author of Yet Everything Stays the Same)
It's funny that you've picked up on the Dobby bits. Yes, he's going to come back up later. And you're right, he can't run into himself b/c he and Dobby are no longer around.Time-Turner fics are just as hard to write as to understand. I got into so many "So... does this work?" convos with my betas!

Aw! It makes everything that much sadder. The fact that he's totally gone and loves her? I'm really fearing that there's no "he gets the girl in the end".

Damn you, astopperindeath! I am NOT supposed to be starting any more WIPs. I have done just fine ignoring this each time it posts, but then today, it was just sitting there staring at me, saying "You know you want to read me. All of the cool kids are doing it. Come on, just take a peek." And I was weak. So here I am. I hope you feel sufficiently guilty :)I am completely intrigued, and I already feel so bad for Severus, even though it is early on and he has done nothing in particular to make me like him. Voldemort's punishment was brutal, and I was cringing the whole time. I do like that he has befriended Dobby and Hagrid, both people who seem to see through Snape's hard outer shell. It's funny how no one puts an ounce of faith in prophecies, but as soon as Dumbledore is on board, so is everyone else. Very true to canon, I believe.I'm interested to see where this goes and how it becomes a SS/HG. I'm not a huge fan of darkfic, so hopefully it will lighten up a bit. But if not, I am sure I am in for a good read anyway.Okay, off to read more * still glaring at you*

HAHAH! I didn't know you'd sworn off WIPs, lol. I was wondering why you weren't responding... Yeah, I know, super-selfish of me, but I do look forward to your reviews.Yeah, this is one of the darkest chapters. There are a few more gory parts, but basically this is the darkest it gets. So glad you're on board!

Aaaaargh! A Horcrux that isn't a Horcrux?? Could he have left it there by travelling further forward in time...? Could older Severus have created it instead knowing that his existence would not follow a standard linear pattern?? (Please note that I am not mentioning the other particularly frustrating evil cliffie presented here -- the nuns at my convent school would certainly approve...)
Response from astopperindeath (Author of Yet Everything Stays the Same)
older Severus indeed left clues knowing his life was no longer linear ;) and it's not a horcrux. it's just a clever unexplained bit of magic. and a plot device :p.

Oh dear, this does not bode well for Hermione having a happy life once young!Sev has departed for home. You swear canon compliance so I presume that means Rose and Hugo get born, yet I haz suspicions about that nosebleed thing.

“The point? The point, you imbecile, is that everything you know will cease to exist if you do not perform your duty. Dark magic will pervade the entire wizarding world. The Dark Lord will win, and all the Muggle-borns will die. She will die.”Ah, so Hermione will be that important to Sev by the time he reaches portrait-hood. Disaparating must be quite the trick in 2-d.I loved this chapter so much, even though it is all terribly sad.

Snape-on-Snape snark action - loving it!"Horcruxes were a whole level of Dark he wasn’t quite prepared to align himself with." This sounds like a germ of the Severus we come to know."He found “Snape, Severus—death of” in the index and flipped to the appropriate section." I don't know why, but I love so much that he uses the index for this.
