Oh, dear...that clearly did not go the way that Hermione had thought (and evidently hoped) it would.  This is obviously the part when Severus convinces himself that he doesn't deserve Hermione and tries to drive her away for her own good as well as (metaphorically speaking) throwing himself onto his sword in order to protect her.  Severus really does have an air of the flagellant about him, doesn't he?  And so many people assume that he must be a sadist, when in actuality there's more than a whiff of the masochist about him...after all, would anyone other than a masochist continue to punish himself for his past mistakes and obsessively cling to his unrequited love for a dead woman more than ten years after her death??  I think not!

Oooh, thank you, thank you, thank you for the update!Poor Sev and Hermione!  I hate that Minerva had to undermine his beliefs and reinforce his negativity of it all in his mind without seeing the whole picture.  Not 5 minutes before was she happy for him that he'd found someone that he could love and open up to, and now she's condoning it based on who it is on a superficial level.  Bah!I completely understand where Severus is coming from that a rushed marriage is not the answer to the situation, but then Severus has tried staying away from Hermione in the not so distant past and see where that got him... Now, he just needs to convince Hermione that rushing into a marriage, as if they have done something guilty and shameful by being together or as if they have something to hide is not the answer. Perhaps he'll discover some Gryffindor courage and stand up to the board of directors and seek to change Section 247b: Clause 22 of the charter.  Oh wishful thinking.  No matter. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Maybe marriage is not a loophole for Severus but more like a trap. I hope Hermione can convince him otherwise.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but I actually think it would be best for them to cool it and wait a bit.  Difficult?  Yes, but if they are meant to be together long term, then there is no problem laying low for a few months.  If they don't have a good enough relationship to weather the distance, then it would be a mistake to get married.  I hope that Hermione sees where he is coming from, not wanting to marry out of obligation, and doesn't see this as a rejection.Having said that, I would love to see the Granger-Snape alliance form some sort of elaborate plan of intervention.  Yes, it's settled.  Let's do it!
