"A Murder of Crows" was my first foray into fan-fiction, and I treasure the lessons I've learned while posting it.
Reviews for A Murder of Crows
I wonder if Hermione's dream was a fear of what Severus almost said, and her concerns regarding any possible involvment he has with Arglist, or if it's an actual warning that he is in fact involved with Arglist in some way or form.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
And that is precisely what you should be wondering, of course. :-) Sorry to sound so cryptic - I'm trying to hook you into reading more chapters when I post them!
I love your story! When would you submit the next chapter?
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you so much! I just submitted the latest chapter. I'm so pleased you're enjoying the story.
I think I will die if you don't update this story soon, and you wouldn't want that on your conscience, would you? (evil smirk) Seriously, I do truly love this story---it has kept me in suspense, made me cry, made me smile, and melted me in puddles in the steamy scenes. Right now, I'm all tied up in tense knots again, and hurting in the middle with remembrance of Severus words' to Hermione that she will never be Lily Evans, and her belief that her love for him will never be returned. Ooooh---please update soon!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
What an amazing review - thank you so much! Please don't die ... I can't deal with guilt!!I just posted another chapter (apologies for the lag) and will start polishing up the next one tonight. I'm not sure if it will untie your tense knots, but perhaps it will suffice for awhile. ;-)Thanks again for the lovely review and stars. You are too kind!
I have the feeling that Ron and Lucius knows something about Severus that they're reluctant to tell Hermione. Perhaps it has something or everything to do with where he disappears to for hours. I wonder if he's seeing someone else on the side besides Hermione. Whatever it is, I hope it's not too serious; if there's even anything going on. I'm looking forward to the next chapter. I thought Hermione was going to accept Lucius' offer for a moment there. I think she thought she was going to as well.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Those are some interesting theories! With only a dozen or so chapters left to the story, it won't be long before all is revealed.I just posted the next chapter ... Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!
Go Hermione - standing up to Lucius despite what he threw her way! This chapter was so tense I had to remind myself to breathe. I can't wait to see where it goes from here.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you so much - that's one heck of a compliment coming from the Queen of Tension! *blushes*
I love the way he slips in and out of teacher mode, alternately annoying, consoling and pushing her to think about the patterns she's set up for herself. They are both right to feel guilty, but I'm glad they found a way to work through that. Well done!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you! The aftermath can be more difficult to deal with than the battle itself, and it was a challenge to show them working through all that. I truly appreciate the review and feedback!!
Just reread this and realized I hadn't left a review, probably because the extreme HOTNESS of this chapter rendered me speechless. Dang, woman, you went beyond lemons to a full out lemon chiffon pie. All sorts of tasty!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
You are too funny (and far too kind). Thank you ever so much for the lovely review and shiny stars!!
Was the cutlery Vanished? Maybe Hermione can stab Lucius in the eye! Haha.Poor Penny!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
LOL. She considers wielding something from the table in the next chapter, although the cutlery remains intact. :-)
He not only wants her to work for him again, but he also lusts after her? I wonder if that hasn't something to do with his and Severus past ...How is Severus involved? What .... questions upon qurestions, and sadly I've caught up with the story and have to wait for updates, just like everyone else. *Sigh*
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
I've greatly enjoyed reading your reviews and wanted to quickly thank you for leaving them! I have almost finished the latest chapter, so I'll be updating again soon, and I will be able to reply to reviews with far more coherence then! :-) Thank you so much for reading ... I'm glad you have questions! With only a dozen chapters left to the story, they will undoubtedly be answered soon!
Damn, Lucius really can spoil the mood.Lovely chapter, full of light-heartedness. It was good to see old acquaintances again.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Yes, he's definitely a drawback to having a friendship with Draco and Luna! So glad you enjoyed this chapter - it was interesting to write Ron. :-)
The opening paragraph was pure poetry. Beautiful!Of course, Lucius is not one to give up easily. I fear Severus is going to become a target; Lucius will do everything to coerce Hermione into working for him again, even threaten Severus. So finally we have seen some sort of comittment. Mine. One little word and yet it defines a whole relationship.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
You are too kind - you've truly spoiled me with these lovely reviews. And you're absolutely correct - Lucius is not going to give up. (Then again, it wouldn't be much of a story if he did, right?!) Thanks so much for reading and leaving such fantastic reviews!!
I love the story! I was worried for Hermione, given what happened the last time she met Lucius, but I think she has acted very well. And now I wonder if what Severus is hiding has something to do with Arglist... Thank you for this lovely tale!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
And thank YOU so much for this lovely review! I apologize for the delay in replying and posting new chapters (darn real life has been interfering with my fanfic life). I'm almost done posting my exchange fic (just two more chapters to go), and then I'll be able to return to this story. I just hope I haven't lost readers in the delay!
Well, I'm certain you're very busy, but I am thoroughly enjoying your story and your writing style (though I have to admit to releasing an exasperated sigh at the name of your baby store). I can't wait for future chapters! Keep up the good work!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thanks so much for the review - I apologize for the delay in replying and posting updates! I've been posting my exchange fic (and editing it along the way), but as soon as that's finished, I'll be able to resume posting this story. Thanks again for reading!
A very intense chapter, in which both are struggling with their guilt. Many similarities between the two strike me.Well, Hermione might have no more secrets, but Severus surely does.Too bad it's late now and I barely can keep my eyes open anymore. I'd so love to read on ...
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
I'm so glad you mentioned the similarities - I tried to show how they share the guilt, the blame, and even the fault somewhat (not in equal amounts, to be sure, but neither are without culpability). It was very difficult to put the characters through this, but certainly our lives (and relationships) are full of trauma, and how we cope is the true test.
So Lucius is behind the mystery - and it seems he has ruined the budding relationship! You are a masterful storyteller, interweaving romance and mystery splendidly.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Yep - it was Lucius all along ... the real reason she didn't want to return to Malfoy Manor. But now the secret is out (at least one of them) and we'll see how much their relationship can take. Thank you so much for the lovely review and stars - my apology for taking so long to reply!
This is such a captivating story! I like that Hermione is not as sweet and innocent as she is usually projected. Everyone has a past. I am worried why everyone keeps warning her about Snape, though. He's got more of a past than we know, apparently. Thanks for sharing! I'm really enjoying your story.-CC
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you so much for the lovely review! I'm delighted you're enjoying the story, and I apologize for the delay in responding to this review (and posting an update!). I will be able to tackle the next chapter as soon as I've finished posting my exchange fic (only two more chapters - yay!). I really appreciate your feedback - thanks again!
I just sat and read this entire story in one sitting, and I didn't realize it was a work in progress, and when I got to that ending I got really worried and scrambled looking for a sequel, but obviously was unsuccessful. It is three in the morning though so I suppose I can be forgiven for that large oversight. I was relieved that that wasn't the ending, but also anxious because I can hardly wait to see what happens next! This is the best fan fiction I've read in a long time. I love how you've crafted Hermione and Severus' relationship. In most stories Severus is the 'evil' one with the dark past, but you turn that around and make Hermione have a dark past, full of mistakes, and Severus to be widely seen as a hero. I love that.Everything about this story is amazing, from the start I was hooked, and starting it at 9 o'clock last night wasn't a good idea, because I haven't been able to drag myself away since, but it was well worth it, even if I have to be awake in three and a half hours! One thing I kept wondering about is what is it that happened between Ron Hermione and Harry for Hermione to have not seen Ron in ten years, and not speak to Harry at all? I don't think it can be just that they drifted apart, but maybe you will offer this explanation sometime in a future chapter? We just don't see Hermione have correspondence with anyone really, Harry, Ron, Ginny, her parents even...she doesn't even get any letters for Christmas. So what happened to make Harry and Ron, her best friends, cut off all ties with her? It will be interesting to see! This story is full of mysteries, and I can't wait to see them unravel.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Hello, there! Please forgive me for taking so long to respond to your lovely review. I've had some stuff going on in real life lately that's taken me away from this story, but as soon as I finish posting my exchange fic (in a few days), I'll be able to return to it. I'm delighted you're enjoying this story - although I'm sorry I kept you awake all night! If it's any consolation, I pulled many, many all-nighters when I wrote this story. I should let you know that the story is complete (in 33 chapters), but they're VERY rough, and I spend a great deal of time editing and revising each chapter before I post. So it might take awhile to get the final story up there, but it WILL be up there eventually. Again, thanks so much for reading this story and leaving a review. I truly appreciate the feedback!!
i'm so behind in life! and you know it's bad when i can't keep up with my favorite fanfic stories. read the last two chapters of this a couple of days ago on the bus on the way home from work. i know i loved them, but the brain is too mushy for specifics. :( except - evil lucius! very well done. i can so imagine him having lots of stolen masterpieces. i'll try to be coherent when i review the next chapter you post, i promise. :)
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
You think you're behind -- It's taken me three months to answer your review! Sheesh. And I don't even want to look and see how long it's been since I've posted an update to this chapter. I hope I haven't lost the readers!!
looks like ol' Lucius is going to get her now.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Well, he has waited more than five chapters to make another appearance. Quite chivalrous of him, all things considered. :-)
"Schitz & Drewls Baby Emporium" Gods, you're funny!! I really had to laugh.Poor Ron is still embarrassingly awkward, but the lovely purple-eyed witch seems to be really taken with him.. and he deserves someone special, too.I enjoyed Hermione and Luna's shopping trip... a real education for Hermione in some respects. What really disturbed me was Lucius' appearance at the restaurant. Hermione is clearly afraid of what he might do, and she should be. If she's smart, she will very determinedly make her regrets and return to Hogwarts. Or perhaps she should go back to Weasleys'' Wizarding Wheezes... at least two people are there, and as clueless as Ron is, I think he could protect her long enough for her to get back to the castle safely.Lucius can only mean trouble is on the horizon... Is it still storming outside? Surely Hermione will not agree to his escorting her anywhere! Surely?Great chapter, and I'm looking forward to the next one!Beth
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Tee hee - so glad you liked that name - it's given me several chuckles!! I'm glad you liked Penny, too. Hopefully Ron will realize how she feels ... He needs a girl who truly believes he's the bee's knees.Ah, Lucius. What is he up to, anyway?? As for Hermione leaving with him ... hmm ... I'm sure she'd have to have a very good reason in her mind to go anywhere with him. Alone. *rubs hands*Thanks so much for the review and lovely rating, Beth! I promise to get another chapter whipped into shape soon. :-)
love the name for the baby emporium - that is a classic. I'm enjoying this story very much, and am now wondering what Lucius' next move will be - hopefully we won't have too long to find out - or to learn how Severus will circumvent him.
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
So glad you liked Schitz & Drewls - I swear I'll use that name if I ever open a baby boutique!!! I'm delighted you're enjoying this story - thanks so much for reading it! I am halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to have another update posted soon. Thanks ever so much for the review and shiny stars!!
ooh, evil cliffie! I can't wait to find out what Lucius has to say....I'll be impatiently waiting for your next update :)
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Ooh - what an awesome username you have!! *is jealous*Thanks so much for the review and rating! I'm halfway through editing the next chapter, so you'll soon learn precisely what Lucius has in mind. I look forward to hearing what you think about it! :-) Thanks again!
No, it's not going to end well, because you ended it here!*pouts*Good thing I wasn't eating or drinking when I got to the name of the baby store. Definately would have ruined my laptop. That was the best.I agree with Luna. Hermione takes simple things and makes them complex. I sometimes think that ultra-intelligent people have a need for complicating certain matters.Good update. Ready for the next part. *looks hopeful*
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
So glad you liked the name of the baby store - I've been DYING to post this chapter for that name alone. :-)Sorry about the cliffie ... I'm halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to be updating again soon.Interesting observation about intelligent folks complicating matters needlessly. Some things in life will suffer with too much analysis. Thanks so much for the review and stars - I appreciate it!!
Oh goodie, a new chapter! I absolutely adore your story and always drop everything to read when I see you've posted another installment. Thank you and I look forward to more!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Thank you so much - what a lovely compliment! I'm halfway through editing the next chapter and hope to update again soon. Thanks again for the feedback (and stars)!! I'm delighted you're enjoying it.
Poor Ron, so clueless. I hope he figures out what to do with Penny's adoration. He deserves a measure of happiness, even if he is still somewhat of a git.As much confidence as I have in Hermione's ability to take care of herself, I worry about what might happen with Lucius. Excellent chapter, as usual. Can't wait for the next one!
Response from HogwartsClassof91 (Author of A Murder of Crows)
Clueless and thoughtless ... Ron hasn't changed much. But you're right - he still deserves happiness, if for no other reason than his character started out with such potential and was somehow sacrificed along the way. Perhaps Penny the purple-eyed witch will be his payoff! :-)I worry about Lucius, too. But at least they're in a public place - how much damage could he do in the middle of a restaurant? Surely she wouldn't be so foolish as to go off alone with him somewhere. *grins*Thanks so much for the review and stars, doll. You made my day!
