breathtaking as ever, quite good description of a depression and wisdom about the importance of good presentation in public... I have hope to find Hermione harvesting the (lemon) fruits for her patience ;-) when I'll be back from my holidays in Italy. Have a nice time
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Enjoy your holiday! There were originally no fruits (heh) slated for the end chapters (hey, wait, you guys! Come back!) but for about a month now there's been a scene in my mind that wants to be tucked in amongst all this. We'll see how it goes. Thank you very much for your lovely review. xoxo

What can I do except gush more about how amazing this is? The silence and tension between Hermione and Severus is like a thing you can touch and taste. And Hermione's devotion and steadfastness? It's so true to her character. She does what needs to be done for those she loves... she's not self-sacrificing, she just does what she has to.You have officially written the best characters I have ever read in a fanfiction. This story moves me so deeply. I can't really put it into words.

Poor Severus.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Poor Severus, indeed!!!!! I'm so glad you are feeling sympathy for him. Thank you for reviewing :)

I know the comment I left sounded like such a lame review but, honestly I think that your story fits in wonderfully with the way JK wrote the books and could not be told better by a fan! I am sooo hooked!

, there is no such thing as a lame review. Seriously. Well, unless you are here to tell me that Snape and Hermione is the grossest pairing you've ever heard of. That would be lame. But thank you! I'm so happy that you're enjoying the story. That delights me. *squishes you*

Another great chapter, to witch you have accustomed us to.I await the return of snarky!Snape. The Snape in this chapter I just want to shake and tell him that he still has Hermione and that should be enough for him to fight for.Sorry, I just had to say that, I kept expecting that he snapped out of it...Anyway... I love your fic, speacially the fact that you pace the story, if Severus was all recovered it would not feel right.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I understand. I think everyone (including Hermione) is wating for the return of Snarky!Snape. Thank you so much for this,

This chapter is so amazing I've been reduced to random, incoherent thoughts ... There is no way Severus will be able to repay his wife for the strength, patience and love she is showing him right now ... I bet Sev looks pretty nice in daddy's jeans ... I believe portrait torturing should replace Quidditch as the wizarding sport starting with Dumbledore ... How could Kingsley taking Snape's magic was the "right thing to do" after all he'd seen in the pensieve? What a @#$%^!!Enough rambling. You, my dear Lariope are amazing and this reading this story is like the unfolding of a perfect dream for me. Thank you for sharing your tremendous gift. I can't imagine what I'll do when this story comes to an end.

Oh Severus... if only he would see what possibilities are right in front him. I can't wait until the next chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Severus is nothing if not extremely stubborn sometimes. (Most of the time) But I think even he cannot ignore her forever.Thank you! More soon!

Hermione certainly has her work cut out for her to get Severus out of his depression. I hope things will get better once the trial is over. Perhaps he will then realize Hermione's obvious feelings for him, and finally gets the chance to be a proper husband to her.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
She does, indeed. But I have never known her to back down. She is as stubborn and determined to have her way as he is! Thank you so much for reviewing!

Thank Merlin! Severus's memories were preserved and Kingsley was able to view them!!! I was worried about that.It is important that Kingsley know and understand about Dumbledore's involvement as the architect of all that occurred — Severus and Hermione's marriage, planning for Severus to kill him, planning for Harry to kill Snape so Harry would take mastery of the Elder Wand, planning for Harry to be killed by Voldemort "at the right moment"..... the list goes on and on. I'd like to have been able to slap Dumbledore myself, but at least Minerva was able to put the kibosh on the old Headmaster's protestations.Thank goodness for Minerva! She is just the friend Hermione needs ... stalwart, indomitable in the face of trouble, and able to give Hermione the strength she needs right now (and that Severus is incapable of providing).
Severus is reeling from his unexpected survival and feelsat sixes and sevens, unable to muster the smallest bit of emotion — he is battle fatigued and depressed. I well remember what some of my classmates were like when they returned from the war in Vietnam in the 60's and early 70's; they were hollow-eyed and not prone to talk... what they had experienced was just to painful to put into words. For now, Hermione will be strong with strength borrowed from her friends. Perhaps that is why she was able to climb into bed with her husband and, at last, sleep deeply — and thus Severus was able to match his breathing to hers and find solace in the arms of Morpheus. This was a masterfully written chapter! There is hope here. "I am coming back."Beth
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Dear Beth,I'm so glad you saw hope in this chapter. Hermione will do her best to bring him hope and leave it where he can come to it in his own time, I think. And I do so love Minerva. I only wish she could have known all along. Thank you for reading and for your lovely review. You never fail to make me squee.LoveLariope

Severus seems so lost. It is like he is on the out side looking in on life. I hope he sees what is in front of him at all times before there is nothing left of her to see. I know it will be ok...... ok I think it will be fine and I will get a good ending to this.......ok I hope .. beg. There that is better. So very well written as usual. I could feel Hermione's strength radiating so strongly in this chapter. Thanks for the wonderful chapter as always.

Brilliant! I'm aching for both of them in this chapter. There's so much pain, and Hermione has to be so strong. I like that Minerva is so supportive.

I'm glad Hermione put Albus on the spot. One thing about Dumbledore that always annoyed me was how he had people following him with out question. Also, I got two bookmark updates on this story, one of which had no chapter. I thought I'd let you know there's a flaw in the slaw some where (squee I love that expression!!).
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes... well. the update thing was my own stupid fault. Too much button pressing! Whoops. I had been aching to write a Hermione/DD confrontation since chapter 40, so I was glad to fit it in here. I longed in DH to see anyone question what he had done. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

something is moving. it is palpable. even inside him. you carve him out of a piece of wood with your writing feather as not the most skillfull woodcarver could with his knive.it is magic you perform right in front of our eyes.you describe silence, it is here, all is quiet, nothing is to say.and action, slight, productive action.this was a wonderful chapter. again and again and again.thank yousalva

Thank you! You know, it's weird. When I began SL, I had a passing dislike for Dumbledore, but the longer I lived in canon and had to write him, the more I grew to absolutely detest him.

Oh dear. I know Severus is suffering psychologically with the after-effects of the end of the battle, and with being alive when he didn't think he would be - but Hermione can only carry so much. Sooner or later, she's going to break down, and she deserves someone to be there for her.Does Hermione know about Lily yet, or is she going to find out about all that in the trial?Looking forward (anxiously) to more - and hoping that everything will work out for them :)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think Hermione has always suspected about Lily. She talked about it briefly in chapter 33, and she certainly knew about his Patronus, but I do imagine that it will come up again in the trial. And yes, I agree that although Severus is suffering, Hermione suffers for both of them. More very soon. The beginning of the trial is up next! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

God, this was a gorgeous chapter, especially the Spinner's End sections. I adore Minerva, always will, and I am glad that Kingsley is at least trying to do the right thing, or what he believe is right.
Every emotion and exchange between the two of them resonates with reality, with honesty. This is one of those chapters where I imagined you imagining how they would feel, slipping into their skins and living in that house.
Such a brilliant job. I guess I'll have to give you more than two stars this time. ;)

Author's Response: I love your grudging award of stars. hahahahah. ;)
Thank you--I'm glad that things between them felt real. Being with them is the hardest and best thing I know how to do.
Love you. xoxox
Beautifully written, heart breaking but hopeful. I love hermione, I want to shake Severus ( I also want to give him big hug to make him feel better) for not taking the happiness they deserve. Dumbledore well , what I'd do to that portrait isn't printableable. My love for this story just continues to grow with every chapter. Many, many thanks.

Poor Sev. Looks like he's got a nasty case of PTSD. Hermione can't let him shut down, or she might never get him back. Thankfully she seems to have realised that, or at least can't bear the distance between them. He's strong, with Hermione on the case I'm sure he'll recover. Maybe once the Wizengamot find him innocent of any wrong-doing he'll turn the corner.Excellent chapter!!!!!!!! Lovin' it!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Helshez. And I agree about the PTSD. Exactly. But Hermione has never let him give in before, and I think as time goes on, she manages her husband better and better. She is a very quick learner and a very stubborn woman. :)Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

Guh... words can't even express... wow... HOT DAMN, Woman, this is... YES!!!!! Unbelievably moving! And it felt like such an action packed chapter even though maybe truly not much happened. Can't explain that... just did. I am so glad she went to him at the end. I don't know what effect it will have on their relationship, but it was lovely. I was glad she did... even though he is being a bastard. Well, more a bastard than usual. And who can blame the poor man for his depression? So sad!!! I am glad out Hermione is a smart girl... hopefully they'll pull through!

Lariope -- just wanted to say that I printed this and read it offline (hence the lack of chapter reviews) and it is magnificent. Your prose, your use of language to describe both action and emotion, your cleverness in plotting -- all are astonishing and engaging. I'm eager to read the rest as it posts and appreciate the talent and effort that has gone into it so far.

I write in 10 pt single space so that I won't consider length when I'm composing, so I don't really have a sense of how long the bastard is. :)mach

:)I'm glad that my review could make you so happy -- it's the least I could give back after the gift of this powerful story. As for its length, it's 385 pages in 10 point Times New Roman (not quite single spaced, I think... easy to read). :)*hugs and thanks for sharing this with us...
