This is a story inspired by the Tim McGraw song, "If You're Reading This." This is NOT a songfic. What happens when Hermione's dreams don't exactly turn out the way she had planned? Will she be able to deal with the hand that life dealt her?

I've been posting on here for a while and have decided to update my profile. I'm 30ish... I have a husband... I have two daughters... and other various creatures living at my house. My real life consists of work, fanfiction (which sometimes supercedes work), and chasing after my teen and tween.

Reviews for Saving Grace
Devon sounds like he represents the potential Draco would have had as a boy if his parents hadn't been who they were. Draco had to "rebirth" so to speak . Luna is a great character and I can see her being Draco's deliverance.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Oh, I'm so glad you understand my Luna/Draco pairing. Most people don't see it, but I always thought of Luna as being comic relief, but extremely intelligent. Draco needs humor in his life, and he also needs someone with a brain that can speak to. Voila!! Luna!
I knew it . I knew it! I knew he would cry !! Beautiful chapter!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
I had to drag the tears out of him one way or another!! LOL!!
Good on ya Gracie!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
I hope that made sense. I wanted her to take the initiative, but I didn't know how to go about it.
Wow, when did Harry get so wise, and at the same time he behaves like a 3 yr old with his daughter... "We are friends. But, when we were kids, he was an evil wanker" that bit was so funny!!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
I think Harry would be a really great dad. I think he would want to give his kids everything that he didn't have, which includes bedtime stories.
Uh oh , don 't wanna be Harry about now!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
I know... poor Harry. I'm so mean.
LOL Draco isn't silly, he knows whats going on!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Of course, he knows!! I love my Draco so much!!
That was quite amazing. Very sweet, and the emotions were so real.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you! I'm glad you stuck with me. Just an Epilogue to go, and I've got it written in my head. I just have to transfer it into words.
Luna+Draco=YES!!
Holy fast forward Batman! It is cute the way Hermione & Severus speak to each other.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Holy fast forward Batman!! That is hilarious!! I thought I was the only one who used batman references!! Hehe!! Thanks so much for a pick-me-up!!
GGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you made me cry at work! My eye make up is ruined. I suppose that is what I get for slacking off. ((sniffles)) Thank you for showing Ron as a mature, confident adult. We sure dont see that often in fanfic.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
I would love for you to take a look at the reviews I've gotten for this chapter. The opinion of Ron seems to be shared by many. I'm glad I'm not the only one! Oh, and sorry I didn't issure a "mascara alert." I'll try to remember that! Hehe!!
Well this was so beautiful it moved me to tears:) Wonderful story, wonderful chapter, truly amazing letter from Ron. I loved the little funny touches that sound so like Ron.Just lovely. Thank you:)Fizzabella
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Oh, I'm so glad you noticed that! I didn't want it to sound too "uniform," because that's just not Ron. I had to risk having to make corrections in order to make him sound right... but, thankfully, admin must've agreed with me. My daughter is nearly 13, so I actually thought about some of the boys that she hangs out with and the way they talk. They're goofy, but sincere -- which is how I perceive Ron.~*potterbrat*~
Such a sweet letter, and a great conversation for everyone to have.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thanks, CF!! I'll see you at the epilogue!!~*potterbrat*~
Great chapter, I actually teared up.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
**doing the Cabbage Patch**I love it when you guys tear up! Hehe!! Thanks, sin, for not giving up on me. I know it's been a while... And, please, don't tell me you don't know what the "Cabbage Patch" is -- the dance, not the doll. I will feel so old!!
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
Actually, I don't but that doesn't mean anything I's so anti-social I didn't know what the electric slide was at a friend's wedding.................
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
**HORROR!!** Drop what you are doing RIGHT now and google the cabbage patch dance AND the electric slide!!
There's such a lot of Ron-bashing that goes on on the SS/HG side of things. I LIKE Ron, so I LOVE to see these stories that treat him well (you know, despite him kicking the bucket) and show him as a whole person rather than just a jealous, temperamental prat. It's a lovely tale you've woven and I think it's made me cry a lot, LOL! Looking forward to the epilogue :)
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you, love!! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who loves the character of Ron Weasley. Canon Ron is such a brave and lovable individual. It makes me sad to see him portrayed as an arse in a lot of fics. People love the SS/HG pairing so much, that they destroy one of the most adorable characters created by JKR. I won't ever do that to him.~*potterbrat*~
Potterbrat-- I got the priviledge of reading this all in one go and I must tell you I am so touched. I've been one of those souls who had to bury two parents well before I was ready and I can only hope that when my own time comes, either early or late, that I have even a portion of the grace you have given death here. You're an artist and your beta is brilliant; but in the end, it is all you here on the page. BRAVO!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
What a touching review. I actually choked up. Thank you so much for that! Fortunately, I still have both of my parents, so I can only go from what I think I would feel if I were in Grace's shoes. I have friends who have been raised by a mother or a father who wasn't biological, and those friends have been blessed with loving relationships. I want to believe that anyone, even Severus Snape, is capable of that kind of love for a child that isn't their own blood. ~*potterbrat*~
superbly written , nice extrapolation of the characters development over the intervening years
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I have a hard time keeping up sometimes when it comes to ages and such, so I try to be as vague a possible, without looking like I don't know my own story. I have to reference myself and use a calculator sometimes, though. Shhh!! Here's a secret: I'm not perfect! LOL!
such poignancy in their relationships ... awww
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Hehe!! thank you!
very touching, a mature Ron who is concerned for other's wellbeing is nice to read for a change.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
THANK YOU!! I've always thought of him as a compassionate person, and unfortunately, you don't read that enough in fan fics. The Ron that I write in my stories may not always be the most profound bloke who utters poems and promises, but I will not allow him to look like a complete moron, either.~*potterbrat*~
You reduced me to a blubbering mess once again!I don't know how you do it but I applaud your brilliance and beg for an epilogue that won't have me reaching for the tissues.A million stars for you.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Here you go **hands tissue**I like it when I'm begged, but I can't promise anything. I can promise one thing, though -- I plan to leave my readers feeling all warm and fuzzy!!I love happy endings!~*potterbrat*~
He sounds EXACTLY like my father did once, even though he wasn't a step-dad. He also tagged onto the end, "You'll still be my little girl when you're old and grey and have children of your own. And you can always come running into my arms when you need and/or want a daddy hug. Cuz those are special for me too you know." God I miss him, but this Sev is true father form.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
That brings tears to MY eyes!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if every little girl had a daddy like that?! My dad has never "said" anything like that, but he certainly lets me sit on his lap if I want to, and I'm 34 years-old!! I'm so glad you are enjoying this little fic, and thank you so much for the review!!~*potterbrat*~
You made me cry you know, the letter was just so beautiful! It has been a wonderful story and I look forward to read the epilogue, after that I think I will read the whole story all over again:-))
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
You are a sweetheart, you know!! My wonderful beta asked me if I ever cry while I write my stories, because I have a tendency to write tear-jerkers. I'll get a tingle in my nose while writing, but when I re-read them, I will cry like a baby. So, I'm right there with you!! Thanks so much for the review!~*potterbrat*~
I've been a fan of your story for a while now. It's really lovely and amazingly written, and everytime I reach the scene in Ron's grave with Severus, I have my tissues ready because it's just so beautiful. Yes, I've read it many many times already and it never fails to touch me very deeply. Wonderful job!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
You are so, so sweet. I wrote SG while I was at work, and I have to admit that I teared up while I was writing that scene. I wanted to show the Severus that we all know. The one who gets unreasonably angry, but who is also incredibly vulnerable. He strikes me as someone who has trouble coping when the reigns are taken out of his control. And I also wanted to give fan-fic Ron a chance to show the best part of himself. He gets beaten up pretty badly in fanfic, so I had to give him a break. Thank you again for caring so much about this story. ~*potterbrat*~
Beautiful story. Bravo.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
Life really can go from fabulous to completely horrifying in a moment, can't it?
A great chapter. I giggled quite a bit during the first part, with the portraits. And then Harry came in... argh, I hope Grace will be all right! Am most curious about the story behind her incident.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
You know what they say about curiosity?... I hope to have the next one up pretty soon. I wanted to work on it today, but my daughter is sick and though she's almost 13, you'd think she was an infant by the way she carries on. Ugh!! Can't get anything done... LOL!! Thanks so much for the review!~potterbrat~
OMG such an evil cliffee!
Brilliant chapter. Poor Severus, he does jump to conclusions about Harry. Hope the next chapter will be happier and we will find out exactly what happened to Grace.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thanks. love. I will try to get the next one out as quckly as possible. Sev has been such a fluffy sort through this whole story. He sarted complaining about that, so I gave him some dialogue he could feel comfortable with. He feels much better now.**grins**potterbrat
