This is a story inspired by the Tim McGraw song, "If You're Reading This." This is NOT a songfic. What happens when Hermione's dreams don't exactly turn out the way she had planned? Will she be able to deal with the hand that life dealt her?

I've been posting on here for a while and have decided to update my profile. I'm 30ish... I have a husband... I have two daughters... and other various creatures living at my house. My real life consists of work, fanfiction (which sometimes supercedes work), and chasing after my teen and tween.

Reviews for Saving Grace
Only the last part made her cry? She is made of stronger stuff, I guess, because I cried through most of it. This is a very well written story. Your prologue was very surprising as well as touching. You wrote Ron with intelligence and dignity. It was very grown-up (and it made me cry). It was nice to see Serverus protrayed as human. I like Gracie, too. I can just see her all legs and arms not quite filled out yet -- like her father at that age. You have given the future with Harry, Hermione, Severus and the rest a great deal of respect and comfort. There are moments of sadness, joy, wisdom and humor. Your dialogue is true and moving. Thanks for sharing, JoAnne

That is by far the best review I have ever gotten. You described the exact way that I wanted to characterize these guys. Thank you so much for the post.~potterbrat~
Yeah, made me cry a little too. Excellent chapter!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Awesome!! Thank you so much for the review.
such a sad chapie.... glad he wasn't alone when he died!
OK, I said I would stop reading, but it was too good. I had to continue. One question, though. Why does Hermione laugh at the end?Cheers, Kat
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Oh, great! I'm glad you kept going. I believe that the spirits of those we have loved and lost are all around us. Hermione, being a witch, isn't surprised at all that there seemed to be a reaction from Ron when she "let him go." When her daughter said the words that Hermione was thinking, she felt so happy and free that she had to laugh out loud. ~potterbrat~
Ah, the irony. A one-shot that is now up to seven chapters. I have only read chapter two so far and have to stop right now. I have it favorited and will continue tonight. I loved the Ron/Snape death scene. I also liked chapter two a lot. Great job.Cheers, Kat
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thanks, Kat! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I actually planned it to only be about fine chapters, but the characters had other plans for me. I do plan to end it soon, though. I've got to get to work on the challenge.~potterbrat~
Well, they are binding. That should be interesting, really. And very very sweet.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much.
Wow this story is awsome, because we get to see a more human Snape, not that I'm complaining about JKR's Snape, but I think this develops the man rather than the darker image that JK followed. Its great to read fanfic with Snape in post Voldies demise, I cried like a baby when I read DH, but I'm finding solice in great stories like this one. Thank-you. Maz

You are so sweet. Thank you very much. I absolutely love this character. There are so many sides to him that haven't been explored. I'm glad JKR left us so much to play with, though. Ron, Harry, Hermione, Ginny, etc. are pretty much laid out through the 7 books. Fanfic for those characters seems almost strange when they're written out of canon. However, Snape is such a secretive character, writing him out of canon is almost okay, because we don't know enough about him. There's still more to come with this story. I appreciate your taking the time out to review. ~potterbrat~

I agree fanfic with Harry et al is a little odd but it doesn't seem so bad to play with Sev's charecter. I look forwarded to reading more on this story.
Daddy!Snape warms my heart, and as it's something I regularly explore in my own writing, my friend recommended your story recently.
This was such a joy to read. I delighted in it, I laughed, and I cried. Thank you for bringing this side of Severus Snape to life.
*tear* this has been delightful! It makes me want to call my (step) Dad and tell him how much I love him! When a child is raised by someone other than their biological parents, people often think of how they feel, how it affects them emotionally... but I think it's wonderful that you've touched on how it's affected Severus, raising someone elses child, even though he considers her his own. It can be a very confusing situation (I know, I was raised in a similar situation), but it can also be beautiful and wonderful. I love the idea of Severus having a deep and passionate love for those he lets in. JKR really did prove that in DH—even after all those years, he never stopped loving Lily, going so far as to protect her son because of that love. Thank you for writing this! I do hope there will be more, but if not, I suppose I'll be happy with what is here.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Well, that's just not fair. It's MY job to make the readers cry. And, here you went and made me tear up... Ugh!! Thank you so much for probably the best review I have ever gotten. I've had some great ones, so that's saying something. My husband has a younger brother who has been a part of his family since the age of 2. He is now 23. The love that they have for each other is very inspiring. It's unfortunate that there are some people that can't even love their own children in such a way--Snape is a good example. His own father was not a loving man, but it didn't stop Snape from loving Lily the way he did, and it doesn't stop MY Snape from loving Grace. There will be more to this story, but not much. Thank you again for the review. And CALL YOUR STEPFATHER!!~potterbrat~
This is really awesome. I'm loving it. I actually did cry when Hermione let go. And that's not a good thing, because I'm at work . Anyway, I know this is a stinky review, but just wanted to let you know that I really do think this is well done and I love the interactions I've seen between Severus and Gracie, Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
This is far from a "stinky review." I appreciate you taking the time to read and review this story. When I wrote the part of Hermione letting Ron go -- I was at work as well. AND, I cried. I was trying so hard to keep from sobbing, but my tears just wouldn't stop. It was a sad moment, but had to be done so she could move on.~potterbrat~
Oh, no, I was afraid of a showdown. I like adult interaction. That was a lovely chapter.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Oh, there you are! I thought you'd given up on me... LOL! Thank you, darling. I wasn't feeling the whole "confrontation" thing when I wrote the chapter. I was going to have Snape tell Harry that it was none of his business and to just stay out of things, but that would have been a whole new story line. ~pb~
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
No, I guess I was just running late. If I was going to give up on your story, I would tell you.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Well, I DID only just get posted on Wed. I guess I'll let your tardiness slide. Next time, though, it's detention with Snape... on second thought, I think I'll take the detention and you can finish my story. he he!
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Oooh, detention. That should give me happy dreams. :)
Half of this story has made me sit here blubbering while I read it. I love the way it's going, but it's been a little heart wrenching to read....I can only imagine what it was like to write. Maria
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Oh, man and you're only on chapter 2. I will go ahead and apologize now, then. LOL!! I have to admit, I cried while writing the prologue. I promise, it's not ALL tears, there is some laughter. But, I have a flare for the dramatics, so you might cry some more. Just read reviews from MerlinsBeard... that poor thing has been crying sense I started this fic and I don't know if she's stopped yet...~potterbrat~
Well I am not disappointed at all with the lack of a showdown. I like the way you painted their relationship. Children change everything. Why wouldn't it change both of these men. Your story keeps getting better. Thanks for sharing, JoAnne
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much, JoAnne! I was so afraid that it would be too dramatic for Snape. ~potterbrat~
That was a beautiful chapter to read. Severus wearing his heart on his sleeve like that, well, you made me cry again!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Bless your pea-pickin' heart!! I am so sorry -- okay, so I'm not sorry. I'm elated!! I promise there will be more happiness to come! Thanks,pb
This was lovely. Not disappointed at all! It explained Snape's feelings wonderfully, and I was glad to get his account of what brought him and Hermione together.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I didn't think I'd ever finish this chapter. There's a lot of dialogue and I got stuck so many times. Ugh!!potterbrat
I am absolutely not dissepointed, this was a beautiful chapter, stunningly perfect with regards to the relationship between the ones involved, I absolutely adored it!!!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I appreciate your review. More soon!~pb~
This was a wonderful story. I've been reading it since Friday on my I phone and finished it today on the computer so I could write this review. I loved the depth of Severus' feeling through out this story and the relationships he built and how they chnaged over the years. grace was a wonderful new character. I loved Severus relationship with Hermione and the last moments of Ron's life and how the two men talked to eachother. It's a sob story ending but really quite wonderful in it's self.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you "got it." I am a SS/HG shipper, but I really do love Ron. I thought it was important for readers to appreciate the honesty of him. Thank you again.~*pb*~
The scene in the restaurant was both sweet and funny (and poor waiter!). Nicely done!
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you so much. I wrote that out of experience. My husband did something similar to me once.
This was a wonderful story? I enjoyed Grace very much and Severus reactions to her were priceless. I may ha e tead this before. If so it was good to find again.
Love it even if it made me cry.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
Thank you very much. I'll be writing more today.
At first I was a bit surprised, thinking that this chapter would have Severus tell everybody about Ron's dying words, and instead found us 15 years into the future. But, I will be the first to admit, this was beautifully done, I loved it, and I loved Severus even more than I usually do! I look forward to see where your next chapter takes us:-))
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
This is a short fic that is more about the relationship betwen Severus/Hermione/Grace. I was afraid to go into much detail about the aftermath of Ron's death, because I intend to keep this one short. I hope to keep you interested. I appreciate your post and the comments.~potterbrat~
I am lovin' this. very nicely written.
Response from potterbrat (Author of Saving Grace)
