The Dark Lord has fallen, but an even more terrible force has arisen to take over the Ministry of Magic – the Pink Lord. Ruling with an abundance of ruffles and terrifyingly sharp stiletto heels, Umbridge’s Think Pink Brigade terrorizes a populace grown weary of decrees designed to enforce sweetness. Unexpectedly, Hermione Granger joins the resistance, the sarcastically snarky Back in Black. Award winner.

I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Reviews for Back in Black
I definitely can't wait for the next chapter
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter! More very soon!
Snape flirting, the twins cursing, Hermione smiling a true smile. Lovely!
It is fabulous how they're all purposefully breaking rules, and Hermione's reticence is so in-character. I'm anxious to hear Back in Black's plans for taking down Umbridge.
I like how you slipped in the bit about Percy. You are able to put such depth into so few words - I LOVE IT!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm amazingly glad you enjoyed the chapter and the use of flirting and smiles! It's also good to know that the Percy bit worked for you - I needed to show to horrors of this world, but I didn't want to dwell.
Wonderfully bluffed Hermione! How on earth are they going to bring down the dreaded Pink Lord? I can't wait to find out!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the way HG fools the Watch Witch!
Love it! Keep going.

Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the chapter! [And Pink #3 Pom-Poms - perfect!]
Wow, the idea of a world where all the women look the same. Reminds me of the movie with Christopher Walken, where all the women are replaced with robots. I hate it when I can't remember names of movies or books. That was also very dystopic. I look forward to your every update.

Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the chapter! I think that's the Stepford one, but I have to admit I haven't seen it. I need to find the original one - it was supposed to be even better!
Response from lupinschewtoy (Reviewer)
You're right it was the Stepford Wives. I haven't seen the original, and only bits and pieces of the new one. Off topic, but I absolutely love reading your fiction.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
No worries - I love hearing about movies!
This is really wild ..and very funny. Please continue
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it and found it funny!
I would have thought after the visit to the centaurs in OotP that Hermione wouldn't be able to make Umbridge and co. any more paranoid!Hmm, I wonder what's become of 'half-breeds' like centaurs in this Pink Hell...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the chapter! Maybe that's what made her so paranoid - good idea!
Hey, this is great! You've come up with a truly original premise, which is darn hard in Our Ship. Though really, who better?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and found it original! Who better, indeed?

oh, you're evil... I'm setting up a contest, to decide which one of us updates quickest...and a second one to decide whose sense of humour is blackest... loser gets Pinked.
On second thought, skip it.... my tame fare has nothing on this brilliant dystopia. have I told you before how much I love dystopian fics?? I'm sure I have....lol
You've got an absolute gift with words. Tell me, you do this for a living the the RL, don't you?? If not, you're wasting sheer brilliance, and I'd scold you, except that you'd stop writing fics and start writing real works, and then I'd have to pay for them, and...
And if you DO write in RL, I'll just sit back in awe and bask in reflected glory, because I've NO idea how you manage.
*sighs*
I really do wish you were writing DH instead of the Ronshipper cough (is that sacrilege? Did I violate a decree???? *pastes on a Proper Smile*)
Good job, of course!
But you knew that....

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter! Oh - no contest! I'm only cramming them in due to the deadline.
Thanks for the notes on my writing. I don't do this in real life. Instead I do literary analysis, which means I write, but academicaly instead of creatively. But reading lots of fiction is invovled and I've taken creative writing. I love doing it!
I am truly enjoying this story. I love this take on things.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! Im so glad you're enjoying the story and the crazy world I'm making!
How long before Hermione realises that Snape probably still has to break Decrees 23, 31, 47 and 49, if not more of a similar nature?
Will it help her to decide whether or not to join?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter! Hee - good question! Wait and see!
I am loving this fic so far. Just the right amount of seriousness to make the ridiculousness stand in sharper relief. I'm looking forward to more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the blend of humor and dystopic ideas!
You promised that the Pink Lord is going down, so I'm keeping (trying to) my side of the bargain.Sheer absurdity of Umbridge's decrees contrasts wonderfully with the sober seriousness the mischief-makers treat them with. I'm very happy though that they still manage to pick up the funny side of it as soon as the business is dealt with. Although, the interleaved dialogue structure is unnerving. If I count correctly, you now revealed 15 decrees, two of which ban colours, the rest are Behavioural. Judging by the cruelty of even the first ones, I cannot comprehend why the magic folks don't revolt in greater numbers. What did the general public believe in following Voldemort's fall? I hope we will get that piece of the puzzle eventually enlightened. If Percy's, and even more markedly, his mother's fates are any indication of large scale terror, they are apparently efficiently paralysed in dread (more on fear management in dystopia at your livejournal; I had a productive discussion with my husband).
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Fear is always a major factor of governmental control in dystopias. In mine, it's the fear of being Pinked, which is why I made it such a horrible experience. On the twins dialogue - just read it as one continuing sentence.
Must say I'm tickled...pink! really enjoying this, can't wait to read more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter!
pink is my most loathed and detested color so naturally i'm panting to join. this has to be the most unique story idea i've ever come across. thanks so much and i look forward to further updates
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and are finding the story original! Join up!
I nominate this for Hottest. Smink. Ever. (A smink is, of course, a combined smirk and wink.) I don't precisely know how you managed to make it so electric -- it's almost bare bones as far as the immediate details go -- but I think you've managed to build up the repressed Pink environment so well that it hit the reader almost as hard as it hits Hermione, even before we get to see her full reaction.
As always, can't wait for more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! Hmm - smink - I like it! And I had no idea it was that hot! But it's great to hear that the repressed environment came through for you!
Dear Lord! Poor Percy. And Molly.... This has had ME wanting to join Back in Black!
Moi aussi, Vive la resistance!
I just don't know how to make the little accent over the 'e'...
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! It's good to hear that the Percy/Molly issue worked for you - I wanted to get across that there are horrors in this society since it is a dystopia.
I like the smirking in contrast to Proper Smiles. Can't wait for more!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and the symbolic way I'm using the smirks and smiles! Well spotted!
I want to know why they saw the same sign! Excellent chapter, I can't wait for the next.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! The sign idea will reoccur - but it will be a couple of chapters.
Great story! Highly amusing. And I like the way she thinks of Snape. By the way, what happened to Harry and Ron?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter! The original Potter Place prompt had HP and RW killed in the final battle.
This is so funny, even with all the reminders of why Umbridge is such a revolting person. I love the gang of subversives. I can see where you'd have Hermione hesitating to join up but I hope she comes on board soon -- she must look awful in pink, for one thing.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and found it funny! It's also good to hear that you like the members of Back in Black!
It was great to see the serious background to the resistance thing and Snape being forced to flirt was hilarious
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and SS being forced to flirt! Yes, there are horrors in such a society - glad that worked for you.
Wow, things must be serious if Snape is forced into flirting! Perhaps Hermione can help him perfect the talent?!
More Soon Please!
Mandy.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter!
That bit about Percy's death really drives the whole problem home - it's not just Umbridge's message that has been taken to a new level, her methods really have, too. And when even Percy can't manage to comply!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and what I did with Percy! Yes - I needed to show how ridiculous her expectations are.
Oh, no! Joining the resistance will mean breaking laws! Whatever will Hermione do? Shatter them, I expect.Poor Percy appears to have been described dying twice. Thinking Pink is obviously lethal.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter! Here's to shattering laws!Yes - that was an oopsie - but as you say, a strangely interesting one - as if I needed to stress that point.
