The Dark Lord has fallen, but an even more terrible force has arisen to take over the Ministry of Magic – the Pink Lord. Ruling with an abundance of ruffles and terrifyingly sharp stiletto heels, Umbridge’s Think Pink Brigade terrorizes a populace grown weary of decrees designed to enforce sweetness. Unexpectedly, Hermione Granger joins the resistance, the sarcastically snarky Back in Black. Award winner.

I am a longtime fanfic fanatic, having entered the realm via Buffydom. One day I read a Willow/Severus crossover and I was hooked – on Snape that is! He's been in every HP story I've done so far.
I write in multiple fandoms on LJ, esp. BtVS and Firefly. If you're interested in reading my fic for other/crossover fandoms, it can be found at:

Thanks! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the story and all the art everyone made me!
Fantastic! I really like the whole 'Pink Lord' concept, very original. Two thumbs way up for you!

Thanks! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the story and found it original!
Ok because of you when I was watching the movie all I could think of was Think Pink :-p
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! (laughs) I have to admit that the best part of the movie for me was Umbridge - it was so much fun to finally see her in all her Pinkness!
The Potter Place Prompt replies were exceptionally challenging for a poor reader that is supposed to choose the one and only. This story has made it into the finals in my personal ladder. The battle was fierce, and in the end I had to choose based on the overall impact the story had for me and the length of time the said impact lingered in my consciousness. Given the lateness of this review, the outcome is obvious. As I cannot deny who I am (Eastern European), I consider Back in Black the best story of the lot.
But it is not flawless. As part of the incredible writing frenzy, I believe, you missed a discrepancy in compatibility of BiB headquarters name as it appeared to various members. On one hand, you give Fred and George ability to finish one another’s sentences (as a mother of twins I know they do it, but mine certainly only finish their sentences instead of forming complicated interleaved compound structures; perhaps they are still too young), on the other, you stress Libre Libri theme in the central pair. While the idea is interesting in itself, it is redundant as well as ambiguous in this story - the dynamics between Hermione and Severus is sufficiently established by his innovative need to break Umbridge’s decrees. You managed to give your Snape intense backstory that the reader feels, but never fully grasps, yet is able to recognise his personal journey in Umbridge’s world and admire his ability to adjust. ‘His ability to adjust to Umbridge’s world’ is not a mistake on my part. He might be the leader and founder of BiB resistance, but he managed to adjust to the group he must work with. The mischievous lot, delivering Severus to us in a chirpy, yet believable, poise.
Lee’s assumption that decree #309 enforces constrains of such extent that they might trigger a revolt is spot-on. Even communist leaders recognised that they must occasionally release the repression for the sake of people’s sanity, usually in the form of comic relief. The fact that it does not trigger the revolution in Back in Black beautifully reflects reluctance of the wizarding world to change. You use the comic relief as a weapon, and such a weapon in the world of Proper Smiles and Watchers proves to be most effective.
In conclusion, your story forced me to reflect to my childhood behind the Iron Curtain and again feel the gratitude to people half a decade older than me, who raised their empty hands against armed brigades and supported their calm voices only by the sound of tinkling keys. And they won the war of freedom for us.

Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the story and that it was able to resonate with you on a deeper level due to your personal experiences. As a literary tradition, dystopic fiction does not have a happy end - I did choose to undermine said tradition and provide one here. Thanks for reminding me that it has also occurred in real life.
I made the twins see signs just a little bit different because Fred is described as a bit wilder than George in canon. The HG/SS sign similarity was to show him that they had much in common. If he'd only wanted to mindlessly break decrees, he could have done so with Ginny.
What a funny story. O the laughs. I am glad that Pickles told me about this story , I have injoyed it emenslly. All that pink, I can see how Hermine felling stomped on . Well off for more reading . Hope to read more from you soon. Bill

Response from pickles (Reviewer)
What a wonderful idea....
Hello, ubiquirk! I like this story immensely! You know, I am from Russia myself, so it is especially close for my heart (of course, I could not witness Stalinist age, but we always have some kind of regime like that). It's scary and funny at the same time, and the main thing is - they won! So pleasant to read a happy end here!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story! I was trying to make it funny while also showing that there are horrors in any dictatorship. I did play with the layout of a typical dystopic novel and give it a happy ending, though - I'm glad you liked that! (waves hi!)
I don't think I will be able to wear pink for quite a while after reading this.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter and are finding Umbridge's vision of a Pink world horrible!
An absolute pleasure to read to far. What a horrible world you created here....
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story so far and the dystopic world therein!
Fantastic first chapter!

Yay! Thanks for a fantastic story!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the story as a whole!
Now this one I think deserves the five stars!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter!
Hermione Granger for Minister of Magic! YES!
This was a fabulous ending to this tale. More heat-inducing UST and just a fabulous resolution to this story. Only one problem. I want to read more! Lucky for me, it appears there is an update of Ladder today! :)
BiB was one of the most well-written, original stories I've read in quite some time. I look forward to reading what you come up with next.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm very glad you enjoyed the chapter and the thought of HG for Minister! Also that you think it ties the story up well!
WOO HOO!! Fabulous action chapter! I loved every word of it.
I almost cheered out loud when I read this:
Searching in his general vicinity, I spot Snape. He’s one of the first standing. And he’s Back in Black.
*loud cheering* Great line!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the action! It was my first time writing it, so thanks!
ROTFL!!! There it is!! Snape in pale pink #1! You actually did it - Snape in pink. I do believe that is a first. :)
I love how you interspersed the action with the details of Hermione's plan.
One line really struck me and is one that will stay with me for a while:
If during my childhood, the dancing girls resembled a joyful flourish of beautiful wild flowers, under Umbridge’s regime, they’re instead overly gilt lilies – ones so gilded their natural mobility is lost.
Horrifying, truly, but such a powerfully-written description of what Umbridge's "pinktopia" is all about.
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and found SS in Pink funny! (It may be a first!) Thanks again - yes, writing fast meant poetic writing fell by the wayside for the most part, but it did pop up every once and a while!
Okay, I'm a sap. I admit it - but I was moved to tears when Hermione hugged Ginny and didn't know she had last hugged someone. How sad. :(
I do love the friendship you portrayed between them and it was fabulous to see Ginny as a devious strategist.
More UST - woo hoo! Love it!
And Hermione has a plan! YAY!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter and the UST! Once again, you're being insightful! The hug incident was to show how isolated and emotionally disconnected they are in this world.
This was a great chapter, really moving the story along. Excellent building of tension, especially with the appearance of the Think Pink Brigade. I was on the edge of my seat. You had me scared for a moment that Marion was really an undercover "pinky." Whew!
I am consistently amazed at how well you are blending action/adventure and humour/parody. Lovely!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter and the way I'm blending genres! You're right - I put the Think Pink Brigade in here so we'd see them before the big finale.
OMG The UST is fabulous here. My goodness! The last line - GUH.
I liked seeing a bit of what BiB has been up to prior to the beginning of the story. And you gave it to us in a very entertaining way. Loved it!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you liked the chapter and the UST of the last line! (sexy beast, that SS)
Here I am, as promised! No need to get out the whip! :)
This just gets more and more scary. Poor Marion - and what about all the other women out there? *shudders*
I really enjoyed the "cloak and dagger" conversation. Well done!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm so glad you liked the chapter and the situation with Marion!
OMG! I just needed to leave you a little note to tell you how much I loved this story! It was a wonderful change of pace from some of the other stories I've been involved in. Your HP meets V for Vendetta was funny yet serious and just such a pleasure to read. Thanks for a great story! ~Brena
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm very glad that you liked the story and found it original! And that you liked the mix of dystopic and humorous elements!
*blinks back tears* *sigh* It's over! No. No. No. This must have an encore. Maybe when you finish Ladder??? Please? *bats eyelashes* Simply smashing job. I loved it!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm very glad that you enjoyed the last chapter and the story as a whole!
Erm - maybe? I don't want to fully commit, bit I might do more in this world again.
so.. is this the end? or will we see more?
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter!
It's the end for now - I have to finish 'Ladder' and my exchange fic - but this world may call me back at some point in the future.
Response from rachaelmona (Reviewer)
hmm.. I was reading ladders and I couldnt remember where it was.. much less who wrote it! thanks!!!
*claps hands* That was very good! It was great how, in the true spirit of heads of evil governments, Umbridge could not do anything to defend herself in the end. ^_^ Great story all around!
Response from ubiquirk (Author of Back in Black)
Thanks! I'm glad you liked the chapter!
