Reviews for No Loyalty in the Moonlight
Oh, you evil author - this is getting better all the time and I just can't wait to read on...
I followed "No Loyalty" back around chapter 19 when the plot was starting to untangle itself. It was recently updated and I have found myself stunned at both the intricacy of the story and the depths of each character's psyche into which you delve. I am fascinated and moved by your prose and enthusiastically look forward to future updates.
Good chapter. And it didn't push my buttons. Sadism from a writer pushes my buttons: when the violence goes on, and on, and the author lingers on it lovingly, that makes me want to puke or cut my wrists. But this chapter acknowledged the violence, described it succinctly, and then took me beyond it. It was necessary to the story, not gratuitous.Good job. Well done.
Now we begin to embrace the seed! Well done, Ari. Well done. A Shriver question: Is he really so stupid that he does not realise his own vulnerability when handling Hermione? Has he not read No Loyalty? It is right here that one does not play with Darkness without dealing with and combatting temptation. Is the knowledge of Unspeakables really so limited? What do they know of what Hermione has done anyway?

:)I don't think Shriver's as much stupid as he is arrogant - his last encounter with the lovely Professor Granger was when she was basically a child, and he's had 22 years of her silence to make him complacent. The words of a scared librarian wouldn't do much to make him really worry. And at least at the beginning he's more worried about Snape than her.So his arrogance makes him blind to his own vulnerability (relative to Hermione's newfound strength and awareness) - he knows what she did in Godric's Hollow. So his underestimating her is a bit stupid, but stupidity isn't really his flaw - arrogance is - or, if you want to get literary about it, hubris.I'm rather glad he hasn't read No Loyalty! *laughs. Imagine what a problem he'd be to write if he had! LOLAnd yes, we shall now embrace that problematic little seed.*waves* Glad you enjoyed the chapter!~ Ari

Hi there!Very much enjoyed the chapter. I'm at chapter 14 of my re-reading homework, and there is another revealing conversation going on there. You have woven one incredibly intriguing story here.n.

I am reading this over again. And it is so much more enjoyable now, that I know what is happening here. At least to me. I can enjoy the intricacies, the detail, watch you unfold the problem, set the stage. Most enjoyable, Ari.
Chilling conclusion Hermione came too. I only wonder how the road she is now taking will change her.I love the way Severus and Poppy stood by her over the fallen wand.

...Once again, she has little choice... but I think there's hope that this road won't be as lonely as the last. So pleased you enjoyed Severus' and Poppy's moves to cover her back, there. :)Cheers,~ Ari

more chilling goodness. thanks so much
This is an excellent story! I just spent the majority of a day reading it all. The entire thing has been hauntingly extraordinary-- took me awhile to catch hold of the metaphors, the deal with the foundations of Hogwarts, but that just made the story all the better once I picked up on it.Really great writing :) -mak

I have a feeling those aurors are going to have a time of it now. If the ghosts can sign their names and testify I suspect Hermione is just about free.

This is great. Hermione, you present here, is such a fierce opponent. I love how she handles that sick Shriver guy. Starting from his introduction - he, who handled us - she shows him she had an upper hand. One thing though, wasn't the split soul placed into the body rather than the flower? Or is it just Shriver's mistake that Severus did not deem necessary to correct? And another point - where is that "Rubbish" Poppy is supposed to say? Does its absence mean the next chapter is almost done or has it been dropped?

Hi,

...Glad you like the beginnings of the Hermione/Shriver showdown. Wicked fun to write. The split soul was in the body until Hermione released the stasis spell. Then it settled into "something" - which turns out, in this chapter, to have been the flower. That chapter was a long time a go, though. :)The "Rubbish" section got rewritten a few times; it was in here originally but the conversation evolved away from it. So no, I'm afraid that the next chapter isn't close to done. I do have some notes scribbled for it but that's it so far.Thank you as always for your thoughtful review, my friend! *waves*~ Ari

Oh, I see. I misunderstood the stasis spell release then.As you are there right now... Could you possibly fish out a version of dialogue where Poppy says the 'rubbish' line? And maybe post it on LJ? I've been imagining her say it ever since you looked for that line, and my imagination strives for it. Thanks!n.
Response from Ariadne AWS (Author of No Loyalty in the Moonlight)
I'm pretty sure I wrote over it, but *thinks for a minute* - I think I may use that moment in the next chapter. Just for you. :D Cheers,~ Ari

*shudders, but in a good way, even though it's kind of creepy*Gods, I hear her so well...
I can't yet put into words why I like it, except maybe the odd little details of her past that make her so very human. *reads on
Such a heartbreaking premise, and so very like Ron and Hermione. When I first read this and realized what had happened, I just ached. What a perfect way to explore the depth and bredth of freindship, love, sacrifice.
So many things I loved about this chapter! The way they enjoy the intellectual engagement, "Make a wish" with both the eyelash and the dandelion. Enjoyed muchly.
"He knew that Hermione Granger’s shoulders wanted to droop, her head to fall forward, and her hands to clutch the edge of the table while she screamed." You build very convincing intimacy between them. You've captured Snape so well, providing him with great emotional insight without softening him. This 'ship requires a deft hand, and you're succeeding brilliantly.
Ah, the wee ghost and the dragon. I like the way the little one unfolds.
"Minerva disappeared from the flames without seeing his eyebrow lift. She didn’t need to. She had known him for fifty years."The way you write the relationship between Minerva and Severus is so touching and true. So much, too much between them.
I really do adore the way Snape toys with Abbott. One almost feels sorry for her. Almost.
Because I feel this is one of the top ten fics in the genre, I believe you should have far more reviews. Thus, I plan to review each chapter during my delightful revisiting of your story. I am fairly certain I will run out of adjectives before I reach the end. Exquisite, as always.
"The moon before him blurred." I enjoy your subtlety.
I love the way you're exploring the gothic elements of the Potterverse. Creating your own atmosphere that is unique and yet remains firmly anchored in cannon, wonderful to read.
This is the third time I've read this fic. The first time was while my best friend was in labor and there was a great deal of waiting. There I was with my little phone reading on a teeny screen at 3 a.m. on an uncomfortable little couch, utterly transported. Your writing is nothing short of perfection. I wasn't able to review then, so I shall now. Thank you for sharing your gift.
It is great to see Severus and Hermione present a united front. They are very intimidating. Hannah seemed ready to pee her knickers. What is the story about Unspeakable Shriver being aroused? Was it by Hermione or Severus?

... I had to laugh about Hannah being ready to pee her knickers - she's so irritating. Unspeakable Shriver's arousal is pretty perverted... I rather suspect Severus will have something to say about it in a future chapter. Whether it's Hermione or Severus or both of them or he's on some sick kind of power trip... or all of the above... Severus will have the right of it, I'm sure. For now... *shudder* Ick.Cheers, ~Ari
