He gave up the Muggle world and his family and entered the world of magic. She would have to give up her family and social status. Together they just might have something altogether different.

Reviews for The Life and Times of Perseus
Ooh! I see another collision between Andromeda and Ted on the horizon. But I don't quite understand. If her father couldn't live to see his grandchildren, wouldn't it have the same effect on Andromeda as it does on Bella? Also, this business of familiy meetings reminds me of The Other Boleyn Girl, which is very interesting because when I read that, I thought of the Blacks.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I'm glad you're still enjoying it.I figured that the Blacks wouldn't consider Nymphadora to be a proper grandchild. Beyond that, according to the Black Family Tree, Cygnus was dead before Draco was born, and Walburga never had grandchildren either.I've never read The Other Boleyn Girl, but I keep meaning to. I do think King Henry and his views of succession were in the back of my head when I was thinking about how that family functions, though.
I'm getting to like your Ted. He's a little different from mine, but his view of Andromeda is just the same - the unattainable witch that he can't get out of his mind.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! My Ted is a little like another extremely likeable guy I know... the one I married. He's the guy who's happy to have a normal job that pays the bills so that he can enjoy his life with his family. That's the sort of person who makes the world go round.
*shudders violently* Poor, poor Ted. I can think of nothing more repellent than Dolores Umbridge trying to be attractive. I'm looking forward to seeing how Andromeda deals with trying "to avoid his notice and not notice him, if at all possible." Could be harder than she thinks...
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
I have to shudder myself, because I'm far better at writing Dolores than makes me comfortable. XPI think Andromeda might have given Ted a little more notice if he wasn't a Mudblood, but she's got her whole life full of training to overcome. Thanks, again!
I told you I'd be here. This was very interesting, not to mention very good. I can't get used to Bella as "Trixie", but there's really no reason at all why she shouldn't be. An eleven year old Andromeda with plaits I can just see in my mind's eye, and I love how he's immediately interested in her. I'm also glad you put her in Slytherin, because I've come across a few people who like to put her somewhere else, which kind of implies that she was a little Black rebel the way Sirius was, whereas I like to think it was Ted who changed her world.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Wow! You rushed right over! Thanks for all the lovely reviews!I love different stories about these characters because although they're so unknown in the canon and we see the world they live in a little differently, we all come to similar conclusions about how they behave and interact.I don't think Andromeda was a rebel, myself. That was Bellatrix, even if she took a path the family approved. I also distinctly recall that Sirius implied if he didn't say it outright, that he was the first non-Slytherin Black in hundreds of years, so Andromeda must have been a Slytherin.Ted's is just so likeable that I pictured him as a Hufflepuff, and the sort of one who would fall in love at first sight at that.
Aww, beautiful and sad. I could feel how hard it was to write this chapter. I was a tad confused at first, thinking I'd missed a transition somewhere, but this is the beginning of the end. I hope they do get to see each other again, but if not, they couldn't have hoped for a better farewell.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
When I originally wrote this, I actually started with a picture of chapter nineteen in my head. I finally typed that up when I was working on chapters four and five, and then I worked backwards and forwards from there and met in the middle. I'd always meant to put in a chapter or two about Sirius and what happened during the years when Harry was at school. As I was re-reading it and editing it to post here, however, I realized it would be yet another chapter or two of sadness and I just couldn't do it. This is all a very long way of saying that if there is something missing transitionally, that's why.I'm glad you liked this chapter, when everything is falling to pieces. It was hard for me to write, although it was easier when I mixed it up with the earlier parts of their timeline. Thank you so much for your support and keen eye.
Ted is a very smooth talker. I loved the dialog and the set-up with the ice cream parlor. He seems so sweet and Andromeda doesn't seem worthy of him at this point. I hope SHE proves herself, too, as I sense that he will have to do something big to win her over. :)
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
What a lovely review to receive after a day that's been much too long! I think this may be one of my favorite chapters in this story. Ted came out so earnest and sweet. Andromeda is suddenly thrust into a possibility she had never considered. She doesn't know what to think, yet. Pah on Bellatrix for ruining the moment... Yet something else to hold against her.
I love Moody and Shaklebolt in this chapter. Now it's starting to get good. Do I smell some plot thickening?
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thanks, again! I had so much fun imagining the world as it must have been before the original Order of the Phoenix, just as Dumbledore is starting to realize that the Tedious One is a deadly menace and that Fudge is blind to the problem.
Oh, I loved Umbridge and her "excessively pink" fingernails! She would have been such trouble as a student!Lovely job with Ted/Andromeda in this chapter. I'm starting to wonder which of the Black sisters didn't want to marry her husband, but I'm guessing you will tell me soon.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I find Dolores a little too easy to write. It's a bit frightening sometimes. The sister who got married in this chapter was Bellatrix. For the purposes of this story I bought into the fanon that suggests Bellatrix's marriage was forced/arranged and Narcissa's was arranged but more of a love match.
It took me a while to realize who this story was about, but I loved the idea once it hit me. It's so delightfully canon! I Love the idea of writing about the Black sister who ended up "turning good," and the boy who turned her that way. I can't wait to read the rest and absolutely adore the tidy writing style.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you for the review! I admit that I love sliding things into the canon to see what might have been happening when Harry was doing his thing. I wasn't planning to write about this pair, but I was studying some mythology last summer in the hopes of finding a plot for an original work and realized that I had stumbled across the story of Ted and Andromeda. Chapter 19 came to mind and the rest of it sort of filled in the 25-year blank. Thanks again!
i love this story so much =)it's original and freshcan't wait for the next update!
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! It's a fun pairing!
Brilliant chapter. Timothy isn't canon, is he? I don't remember him being mentioned. ^_^
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
You're right, Tim's an OC. They seemed the sort of couple to have more than one child, and I thought I could slide him in, since he won't be going to Hogwarts. Thanks for the review!
Thank you I love to read where you are going with this story. I appreciate the effort and creativity. Thank you for sharing your imagination.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you for the lovely review! There is more to come!
Wow, it took one huge wake up call for Andromeda to realize what a catch Ted is and that she loves him. I had forgotten how young they both were until you mentioned that it was Ted's birthday and he was 19. They went through a lot at a young age. Makes me think maybe Ted should have been a Gryffindor.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thanks! Andromeda took a while to get to the party, but she's there for all she's worth, now. It's always amazing to me to think just how young all those kids were. James and Lily must have been married that young, too. They were 20 when Harry was born. It's not that long ago, but that generation did get married younger, on average. Fewer went to college, for one thing. As for Tedl's house, I always see Hufflepuff, because he's such an affable fellow the couple of times we see him in DH. However, the best Hogwarts students have attributes of all the houses. He's bold enough when the situation calls for it, but he certainly behaved like a Slytherin when he took advantage of his one opportunity to get the girl. ;) Thank you, again!
Nice chapter. I have really been enjoying this little blast from the past. ^_^
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I've had a lot of fun imagining what their lives were like.
really enjoying your style. thanks for exploring 2 characters so important to the HP world, but usually left in the dark.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you, again! I really "fell" for these two as I wrote, especially the fact that sometimes the least likely people can be very heroic when they need to be. I shouldn't have been surprised; the canon is full of such people.
lovely!
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Oooh! An elopement. I love the way you are writing this and portraying an earlier time if not an easier one. Please keep up the good work.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! It seemed to me, while reading the parts of the canon about the Black family, that we were watching the end of an era, sort of like in Gone with the Wind, so I think it affected my style of writing.
I hope Andromeda was holding on too. Good for Sirius for pointing out that blood status doesn't matter anymore. I hope she was listening. I think that marriage license is going to come in handy. The scene with Ted staring at Andromeda in the store window was very sweet. Great chapter, I'm enjoying this story.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! These two haven't had a proper courtship, but there was at least an existing attraction, more on his side than hers. He wants her, but she wants a pure-blood wizard like him right now. Sirius certainly gave her something to think about on that score. We can only hope she was holding on to that planter. I'm not a huge fan of clifhangers, but this story seemed to fall into this one and, I'm afraid, an even bigger one at the end of the next chapter.
Just read all 5 chapters and very much enjoyed them. I didn't realize from the snippet on the home page that this was about Ted and Andromeda. I think the back story you are creating for them is very interesting and makes their getting together realistic. I must say though that with the way Andromeda is talking to him now, she doesn't deserve him, but I'm sure that will soon change. Looking forward to an update.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
No, she doesn't deserve him, *I* do! (falls on the floor, laughing) I made the mistake of falling in love with him as I wrote this. It will take her a while to get to the party, but she will. ;) I started this story by re-discovering the Greek myth and it occured to me that the mythical Andromeda never had a chance to fall in love with Perseus before she was married to him. Thank you for the lovely review!
Loved it when he told her what every Muggle-born has to give up when they enter Hogwarts.I think he gave her a lot to think about.I'm really curius what will be the trigger for her seeking shelter in his arms.I loved this chapter.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I had a lot of fun with this chapter, myself. When I wrote those two paragraphs, about what she would have to give up, and what he had already given up, I really felt like I hit on something important. I'm glad you liked it, too.I feel like this is where the story gets going in a lot of ways. He's offered the shelter of his arms, and he almost had her... if it weren't for her older sister. I think you'll see at least part of the answer to your question in the next chapter. It's coming. Thanks again!
Wow, the summary is one of the best 'hooks' ever! And the chapter delivers. I love how this is going. There is some serious stuff, but so hopeful, too!
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Why thank you! This pair has a lot of serious stuff to figure out, but they have some attraction to work with. Plus, Ted is an optimist. Thank you for all your kind assistance!
Ah, Rose, this really is a great first chapter.I had the feeling of being there with the Tonkses - seeing all with the joy and wonder of Muggles entering Diagon Alley for the first time.I'm looking forward to experiencing Hogwarts through Ted's eyes and getting to know Andromeda in the next few chapters.
Response from Rose of the West (Author of The Life and Times of Perseus)
Thank you! I put myself in Mother's position for a lot of it.We won't get to see much of their Hogwarts years, but there will be a taste and we'll definitely see more of Andromeda.
