The Ministry forces Severus to decide between getting de-aged or go to Azkaban. He chooses Azkaban, but Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Alastor Moody disagree with it. So he is a four-year-old now and lives with Albus and Minerva. Fluffy story!

Hi,
I absolutly love fanfiction but I never thought I would write one myself. But when Healer Pomfrey put up a contest I decided to write a stroy for it! The result was my story "Everything will be okay soon" !
I'm a social worker in a children shelter for abused, hard to educate and/or criminal girls.

Reviews for A Better Childhood
He's breaking my heart. I want to find the Snapes and hurt them... Grrr. That poor little sweetie! I'm so looking forward to the man he'll become with proper parenting!!

Thank you very much for your review!
Severus really has a lot of issues to resolve. I'm hoping he gets his adult life back sooner. It's really sad, but his parents probably parented as well as they could. They were probably raised the same way. Granted, they could have chosen to learn to do things differently.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I already stated explicit at the begining and in the summary that this is a story about a second childhood of Severus. He won't be changed back or get his old memories back. He will be raised fom Albus and Minerva and will find a lot of friends who will help him to forget the frist years of his childhood. This is a fluffy story! Sorry if you expected somthing else. Thanks for your review!

I like fluffy. Something you said about warding his old quarters gave me that little idea, forgot about some of the first story. Regardless, I'm enjoying the story and eagerly look forward to your next post.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Oh, the quarters. Yeah, now I see were you get that idea from. Albus plans to tell Severus everything about his former life when he is old enough, and he will get his personal belongings/quarters back when he gets off-age. So all his books , clothes... aren't destroyed or given away. That's what I wanted to say with this 'wardening the quarters'.I'm glad you are still interested in the story.
Oh my, it's like walking in a minefield... I mean how cruel can people be to make every aspect of normal life hell?

:D He will feel better soon. You will love chapter 8 because it will be the first fluffy and happy chapter! But I will need some time because I have to let two betas check my chapters and then I still have to change mistakes when I get the correction list from the stuff here. So submitting the next two chapters will need some time again. So please be patient! Thanks for your review!
That poor child. And these people KNOW he was abused, or should be able to put it together, they are teachers and medical personnel, you'd think they would figure it out.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Yes, they know about the abuse. But they are no gods. They are normal humans and make mistakes. It's hard to deal with abused child. Sometimes it isn't easy to predict what they will do or what they interpret in your words. Thanks for your review!
I really do love this story. It breaks my heart to read about Sev's trauma at home. I hope he will begin to like baths with nice warm water and lots of bubbles to play with.

Anytime we're confronted with one of Sev's previous abuse, I'm immediatly aching for him and and terribmy angry with his parents. I'm very glad he is given a chance at a new life.

Thanks for your review!
Poor little tyke. Imagine telling a child there are monsters in the toliet? How cruel. I hope Severus starts believing Albus soon.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
He will. Don't worry. :) Thanks for your review!
This is a really interesting story, can't wait to see where it goes. What is the timeline? Is this from when Harry was born or during their 6th year?
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
It's the summer after what would have been Harry's 7th year. So Ginny will be in her 7th year when the students will arrive. Voldemort and most of the Death Eaters have been defeated. Even so Severus played a big and positive role in the war, the Ministry wanted to avoid trouble with the majority of people, who never believed Severus and so forced him into this decision. The trio and mostly Hermione will appear in this fic as well, if that is what you wondered.I hope, I could answer your questions. If there are more, just let me know! Thanks for your review!
That poor baby!
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Yes, he is a poor little guy, but his life will become better now! Thanks for your review!

Double post and double reply. :) Thanks you!
Darling, the kind of stories you write worry me a lot. I guess you see loads of horrible things like these at your work. Thank the heavens for courageous people like you who have the guts to work with and help these children on a daily basis!
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Yes, I see a lot of horrible things. To be honest, I have a special little boy in mind when I write on this story. He was already 5 1/2 when I met him first, but I thought that would confuse the readers to much to let Severus react like he does and already be that 'old'. Abused children often don't react like 'normal' children or 'normal developed' children. So I let Sev be four to avoid discussions. :)Thank you very much for your review.
That is one traumatised child.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Yes, it is!
It's really sad the kind of conditions many children are raised in. My heart goes out to Severus. It'll be interesting to see how his new childhood goes for him.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I'm glad you are interested in his new childhood. Thanks for your review!
My middle daughter recently turned four. I have been crying all over my keyboard as I'm reading thinking of her, and how she would react to cruelty. I think his thought processes are good. So simple. I'm off to hug and kiss my girl again!
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I'm sorry that I made you cry. He will have a better childhood now, I promise and this story will be a fluffy story.
I have a four year old and I keep thinking of how she would react in that situation. Must not thing these things! Please get Severus warm soon!

I feel so bad for Severus in his panic. Of course he would worry about being vulnerable again. Poor thing.

Oh good gods, Mr. Snape was horrible! Poor, little lad, he's terrified and doesn't need to be. My heart actually was pounding for the little guy.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)

Thank you very much for your review.
Wooo...this is very interesting. Please go on
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Of course, I will, but I need a lot of time to get my chapters to the validation system. :( Thank you very much for your review!
WOW, this idea has so much potential. What will this Severus remember?I wasn't sure you'd tell the adult version who the parents would be, and I already figured out some... AD and MM are quite old to keep a 4y old rascal in check. And, of course, they know one version of the adult Severus--how much will it influence them? Wish you good luck with a beta, for I'm surely waiting for your update!
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
All your questions will be answered in the next chapters! ;) Thank you very much for your review!
What an intriuging idea! I am delighted by this beginning and looking forward to more. Thank you for sharing your story with us! I can't help but think that Minerva was upset, not only because Severus was upset, but because she was loosing her dear friend. Of course she will love him as a child, but it is not the same as one's adult friend. what would it be like to have your dear friend suddenly a little child? He would have lost all the memories of happy times and years together as friends. How sad.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Absolutely! Minerva is crying for her friend and will have problems with it more than the others. I need a second beta for this story because I have problems getting it to the validations system here. Would you be interested? Thanks for your review!
I don't think I have ever seen this story line before, and it looks like fun! I think I'll just have to follow the chapters as the story develops.. it's very good!Thank you, Beth
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I hope I can update soonl, but I need a lot of time to get my chapters to the validation system. :( Thank you very much for your review!
So, I assume he'll forget everything about being an adult? Great beginning! I really felt for Severus with his fear. Poor guy, to want to go to the horrors of Azkaban instead of becoming a child. I guess we can live better with the monster we understand than the one we can't predict.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Yes, he will. You will find out about it in the next chapter. I hope I can update soonl, but I need a lot of time to get my chapters to the validation system. :( Thank you very much for your review!
Oh, I love de-aging fics. So do we get to find out about the first childhood while he works through the second one. Good luck and I can't wait for the next chapter.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
You will see in the next chapter. It would spoil the fun to give it away, now! Thanks for the review!
Wow, this looks intriguing! I can't wait to see what happens!
