The Ministry forces Severus to decide between getting de-aged or go to Azkaban. He chooses Azkaban, but Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall and Alastor Moody disagree with it. So he is a four-year-old now and lives with Albus and Minerva. Fluffy story!

Hi,
I absolutly love fanfiction but I never thought I would write one myself. But when Healer Pomfrey put up a contest I decided to write a stroy for it! The result was my story "Everything will be okay soon" !
I'm a social worker in a children shelter for abused, hard to educate and/or criminal girls.

Reviews for A Better Childhood
That was a nice scene. So far the story is quite enjoyable, with limitless possibilities.

I'm glad you like it. It's one of my favorite scenes. :)
I like the way the adults are dealing with his fears. It will take time for all of them to adjust.

It will become better soon!
Maybe he should have been made a year or so younger. This kid has way to many hang ups for a four year old.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
What is a hang up?
Response from sinbad (Reviewer)
It is a slang term. Basically, he is afraid of everything it can also be irrational dislikes, fears, disgust etc.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Oh, thanks fo telling me. Sev will learn to trust his new guardians and these around him soon!
Too funny, it reminded me of my kids. My eldest was told by another kid in preschool all about toilet monsters. Thank heavens it didn't take me long to convince him otherwise.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Toilet monsters are really crazy things. Good that your child has enough trust in you to believe you more than some children.
Well, we are off to a good start. Will we see reactions from Harry, Hermione, Ron or any other characters?
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Of course, but later!
I would call it a fresh start as opposed to character death.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I got soem falmes over this on another site and so I just wanted to make clear from the beginning what you can await of this story and what not!I'm glad you see it as a fresh start.
How sad, to be afraid of being eaten of all things! Someone should resurrect his father and horsewhip him.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
You are not the first one to say this. :)
Personally, I wouldn't mind reliving my childhood. Of course, my childhood was nowhere as bad as Severus's.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
This time it will be a different childhood for Severus. Thanks fo your review!
*sniff* it's just so precious and sad it makes me cry. poor baby. lovely update, tho. the happier he is the happier i'll be too. thanks so much

Oh, and I thought this chapter will let your nerves calm down a little. It was meant to be a fluffy one. The next one will break your heart again I fear. But then it will become better and better and fluffier and fluffier. :)Thank you very much for your review!
How sweet, bath time can be a scary experience for little ones. Young Severus is so cute.

Oh lord, kids and bathtime! Loved the beaver.

Pajamas ... the old-fashioned Dr. Denton's kind with the trapdoor in the back, very appropriate for youngsters like Sev, that's the ticket! I'm so glad Minerva and Poppy managed to take the trauma out of bath time and make it fun for Sev, the poor little guy's been through so much, it's good to see him having fun.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
There will come one more 'dramatic' chapter and from then on the story will be very fluffy. Severus will start to enjoy his new life.
I'd love to have a beaver for my own bath.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Me, too.Thank you for your review!
I know this is fiction but it just breaks my heart to know there are "beings", can't really call them human that treat kids like little Sev was or even worse.Otherwise a great story. Looking forward to more.

Swimming bath toys! You could be a millionaire! And how brilliant of you to have the Patronus check for the 'Toilet Monster'. LOL
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)

Tell me little Severus has footie pjs? please please please??
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
Footie PJs? Are these PJs with a food part like a romper suit? Are there things like this for 4 year old children? If you feel better I just will tell you: "Yes, of course it were footie pjs. What else would he wear?" ! :DThank you for your review!I hope you enjoyed this fluffy chapter. The next one will break your heart again. I'm sorry, but I promise from then on it will become better and better.
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)

bless his poor little heart. it makes me happy how loving they all are being to him. of course as an avid sshg shipper i imagin her babysitting him and later they get together. but i know you're probably not going in that direction! but i am so enjoying this story. thanks so much
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
No, sorry that won't happen. She will be paired with someone else. Thank you very much for your review!
Every damn chapter I end up with watery eyes. I must be allergic. Yeah thats the ticket!
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
I hope the next chapter won't make you cry. It should be funny, but I often think that and then people tell me it was sad. That should made me think, shouldn't it? I really hope you will like the next chapter. He will have wonderful bath toys. :)Thank you very much for your review!
This is such a sweet story. I can't help but always smile despite the little dramas that are to be expected considering Severus' first chilfhood.

Poor little guy! The ingrained fear of bathing brought on by childhood trauma could be one way of explaining Severus oft-referred-to greasy hair and such. It sounds like Albus, Minerva, Poppy and Alastor have their work cut out for them trying to help such a criminally battered child. I don't think they had any idea of the true depth of severe emotional damage that occurred before Severus began attending Hogwarts.
Response from grugster (Author of A Better Childhood)
No, they had no idea. :)Thank you for your review!
I'm glad the adults are telling little Severus about his past even if he doesn't understand. I can't wait to see what he'll be like as an adult.

Thank you very much for your review!
Oh, so sad still. I know it will get better, but you've taken your time in getting there. (I like that, really.) Obviously things aren't going to be joyful right at first and he's going to think of the horrible things in his life. It was funny that he thought they were mistaken about him being an adult. I'm sure he'll understand someday.
