The future is bleak for the wizarding world after Voldmort died. Scorpius Malfoy and Molly Weasley become the future’s hope for the past. They enlist fourteen-year-old Hermione Granger’s help with two stipulations: She can never return to the future and she can’t remember it. Dealing with the Marauders is the least of their troubles. Severus/Hermione eventually, Lucius/Hermione to start. Scorpius/Hermione in a sibling relationship. Time-Turner fic with a twist.

Call me UK - no relation to the nation. Aside from fanfiction, I collect coffee mugs and I draw and paint. I'm a college student in pursuit of a career in teaching English and Science to middle school children.

So, now we find out if they get to go to Hogwarts. Like they wouldn't! Anyway, I like their relationship with Remus. I suppose they will eventually find out about his condition. His other friends did, and I don't think they're nearly as smart as Scorpius and Hecate.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
It'll take them a while to really get it - Hecate is smart, but she's gotta make dots connect and all. His mum and later Madam Pomfrey are really good at hiding him. The Daily Prophet and the school governors got some things to say about our pair before they get in. ^_~
Yay! An Update! OMG I Love this story! After I last reviewed (and read your response) I went to your dA site and was poking around over there. I was very impressed with your ability to not only write an amazing story but to put your words into images too. How wonderful it must be to have such artistic ability. I was a musician, my idea of art was a couple of stick figures and 1D flowers! Hahaha. Anyways, this chapter was so awesome! And total happy claps for the arrivial of Fawkes and hopefully awesome news from Dumbledore. I love all this stuff you're doing here in preparation for them to get to Hogwarts and mingle with the other people but I do have to say I'm anxious for some young!Snape. Seriously I love the idea of them being kids at the same time and hopefully helping him to have a better future. (Crosses Fingers) Anyways, thank you again for this fabulous plot you've got going here and keep up the totally awesome work! Much Love Always ~

Unfortunately interactions with our Sev are going to be a little slow in coming. I'm glad you like my drawings. ^-^ I'm working on a group image of Hecate, Illi (OC), and Lucius atm. It's really turning out nice, too. The reason things are going so slow is that I want to show how Hermione became Hecate, even after she discovers her memories. You make my day so much brighter with your comments. Thank you!
Fascinating story! Looking forward to reading more.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thanks! ^_^
I'm glad youreunited the two chapter s I on't see where you would cut them apart. That said, I'm curious to know how it happens that Griffindors and Slytherins are befriending themselves. Will that change at Hogwarts?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I don't want to say too much as it'll become all too clear with the coming chapters. It's reasonable to say that the friendships do remain between Score, Remy, and Hecate. It all becomes something of a turning point, so I shan't say any more. ^_^Originally, the chapters were separated between the initial meeting and subsequent first day with Remus and meeting the rest of the Marauders. I decided that it didn't serve any purpose other than keeping my ridiculous "around six pages" chant, which I'm trying to break. Somehow got this notion in my head early on in fanfic days that a chapter was around six pages and been trying to get out of it. >.<
so let me get this straight. the mental library that hermione has is a literal library--she remembers all the books she's ever read? but not her memories?what about the books she's read on harry potter? or the newspaper articles about herself?and why did scorpius and hermione just agree to be adopted?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
She pictures it as a literal library, yes. The specifics of what I used will be explained later on down the line, but I will tell you that she doesn't remember anything dated. I don't think they had much choice in the matter, being adopted, I mean. Molly sort of didn't give them any.
Response from mock_turtle (Reviewer)
I just had this weird idea for an alternate story, where hermione and scorpius decided that they felt a sort of strong sibling connection and decided that since they had been obliviated by someone, they weren't going to trust mrs weasley and decided to run away together because they thought she was in league with the death eaters. or something. it kind of hurt when you had hermione leave the lupins' house without scorpius, because it meant they wouldn't rely on each other to the exclusion of everyone else in the universe, which was what I was rooting for.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
XD Close, but no Cuban, hon. God, you're like the closest guess so far! I'm obviously not going to tell you which parts are right (too close to the mark for my taste), but jeez! ^_~ I like to think I'm unpredictable.
poor hecate. boys are a bit of a bore at that age. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Boys are still a bit of a bore at my own age (22). Thanks for reading.
the first couple of paragraphs are really confusing, mostly because of your verb tenses. like, her name WAS hermione but she IS fourteen. then man WAS the same age as I AM. also, when she says "who is she and who are you" and malfoy answers "your future self" it's confusing, like this blond person is hermione's future self. does hermione from the past know su li? and how does hermione automatically make the leap from "we must change lucius's mind" to "we must time travel"? what period are they even going to?your story has a lot of potential, I just keep getting confused!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
The first chapter was entirely meant to be confusing, mostly because I chose to write this as if she was writing from the future. Hermione would not be able to discern exactly what tenses to use, considering there are several time periods in use here (the obscure future point she's writing from, Scorpius' original time, the time being described, and the time they go back to). Hermione would know Su Li only in passing, as the Ravenclaw is in her year. I don't think they've got classes together, though. I think Hermione WOULD be able to make the connection that they're going backwards, not forwards in time, but not stop to explain it to "us." You really can't change another person's mindset once they start killing for it... but before that - before Lucius started killing. The confusion is there for my purposes. No worries! ^_^
I am amused that Hecate/Hermione doesn't like Sirius and James. I don't always like them either, so I can relate.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm on two sides of the like/don't like James and Sirius thing. On the one hand I like James after he mellowed enough for Lily (on the other I hate that he stole her from Severus). I like Sirius on multiple levels, but I hate the fact that he is basically the instigator for the "attacks" on Severus. It all makes me quite glad that I moved too much, too often to get into it with bullies. With Hecate, this is the first in a series of not necessarily bad choices that lead to... well, you'll see.
Looks like this has the potential to be really original! What an interesting mix of characters, too. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for updates as they come!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
That was my aim. ^_^ Glad to know it's working so far! My next chapter is already in queue, and if the esteemed TPP cakes are as regular as I've seen them be so far, it should be up in the next couple days. ^_^ I love these folk!
I'm guessing Mrs. Black wanted info regarding Scorpius and Hecate? Interesting story, I'm curious about what happens next. The old future sounded pretty bleak.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Oh, yes. To all points, yes. I got to thinking about how Lucius Malfoy would respond to losing the Dark Lord... slippery little snake that he is. Funny that it spawned this. ^^
Yup, definitely lucky to have Molly. Can't wait to see what happens when they go to school. Will Molly gently nudge them in the direction they need to be going?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
You know what often happens to teenagers who do not conform to societal norms? Or to people who lose their memories, usually? (I love Sociology and Psychology classes... better than cable. ^_^)
Omg! This is such an amazing plot! I mean I've read all sorts of time-turner fics. But this whole set-up you've got going on here is just amazing! I love how Scorpius is so much like Hermione academically. And they really do already have a kind of sibling relationship forming. Its awesome! Seriously I love this story. And I totally can't wait to read more. And I've already recommended this to my two close friends who also read fan-fic! Thank You so so much for this wonderful addition to Petulant Poetess!! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^_^ You've totally just made my day, love. Thank you so much!
VHS player? Not in the 70s. They did not come out till the early 80s.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I looked it up as soon as I saw your review - 1976 was the release year for the U.K. OOPS! I'll be sure to remove it shortly - glad I hadn't had any plans for that thing other than the Muggleness of the room. >.< Thanks for spotting it!
Response from joyfulheart (Reviewer)
No problem, its easy for me to spot, I was born the same year as Severus, Lily and James. I lived through the 70s. Yes I am an old fan.
i can't wait for them to meet severus! great update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I actually have a direct answer for when we do meet him - not until chapter 6, I'm afraid. Like I said, this is going to be a snail's-pace story. Thank you for reviewing! ^_^
Response from kimjo2 (Reviewer)
that's ok with me...i'm not going anywhere! ;)
So they're going to be in the same classes as the Marauders and Snivellus... I think that promises very good reading moments in the future.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^_^ I think so, considering how far along I am already, lol. I view it more as a Slytherin, though, if you get my meaning.
Wow, I can't wait to see what happens now. How can they affect anything when they don't remember anything? I suppose Molly will 'guide' them. Obviously, they're a little suspicious.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
You'd think Molls would guide them, wouldn't you? Everyone ends up being a little suspicious. I mean, come on, Molly can't act, and Slytherins are too sleuthful, and Gryffindors too nosy, and they can't even bloody fool the Healers. XD My beta is getting back to me with the next part here in the next few days. ^_^ So it should be up by next week.
facinating. this has all the earmarks of an entralling tale. thanks so much and i look forward to the next chapter
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm glad I've got you enthralled. ^_^ I sometimes wonder if I'm any good at this, so it's nice to hear. Thanks for reading, hopefully my beta gets back to me soon. *is starting to worry*
Rock on! Hecate Taylor. . . interesting!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^_^ Thank you! Er... is that an "interesting" as in pulling you in or more like "I don't know what to say good or bad" kinda interesting? (I use the word exclusively for the latter, which is why I ask. It's more for my amusement than anything. ^_^)
Why end it now? Okay, I don't want to mess with the flow of your chapters. I read through them so quickly they seem awfully short. (I know they're not really) Excellent though!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm trying to make the chapters lengthy and full, yet leaving some other question to be answered at the end so you'll wanna come back. I've never written a story on a chapter-by-chapter basis - I usually write the whole story as one giant flow. This is a different strategy for me, and I hope it comes out all right. ^_^ Thanks for reading!
I can't think how you must have come to such an interesting and intricate plot!! Brawo to you, my dear. Can't wait to read the next bit.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Wanting to read something that was familiarly unfamiliar is always my motivation. XP We've all read Time-Turner fics - I just wanted one where the stakes were completely different. ^_^ The next part is already with my beta. ^_^
This is even more intriguing than the first chapter. Please update as soon as you can.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you! It's with my beta. ^_^
I still have to wrap my mind around all this strange plot, but I have a feeling that I will like the sequels...
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
lol I think everyone's trying to wrap their minds around it. Myself included. I'm working on chapter four right now and having trouble with the Marauders... hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading. ^_^
Quick note, in canon Draco married Astoria Greengrass, Daphne Greengrass' younger sister, not Su Li. Also, I find it interesting Hermione picked Hecate as her name. Keep up the writing!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
O_O;; Where's it say that he married Astroria at??? Is it written in the Brit edition? All it says in my ed is that he has his wife with him - nothin' else, not even a descriptor. I chose Hecate very specifically for its connotative meanings, in particular the nickname that Score eventually uses - Heck. ^_^ I'm workin', I'm workin'! LOL
Response from HermioneJeanSnape (Reviewer)
JKR said it in her interviews after DH. If it doesn't interfere with what is being written (such as Hermione and Ron getting married, etc) its nice to use interview canon.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Unfortunately it does interfere a touch... I wrote Score with the idea that his mother was Ravenclaw. Oh, well. Sorry, Astoria, Su stole your man! X.X
Very interesting plot. I can not wait to see what happens next!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^__^ Thank you! It's with my beta already, no worries. Hopefully RL don't get in the way again.
intriguing start. i look forward to where you're going with this. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you! I've got a few things up my sleeve for this one. ^_^
