The future is bleak for the wizarding world after Voldmort died. Scorpius Malfoy and Molly Weasley become the future’s hope for the past. They enlist fourteen-year-old Hermione Granger’s help with two stipulations: She can never return to the future and she can’t remember it. Dealing with the Marauders is the least of their troubles. Severus/Hermione eventually, Lucius/Hermione to start. Scorpius/Hermione in a sibling relationship. Time-Turner fic with a twist.

Reviews for The Devil's Game
ooooo, man this story gets better and better with each chapter. well i guess this means lucius is really genuine then in his feelings. i adored him in this chapter.i like how lucius figured out she's from the future with the coins. but if i was him and she had the mafloy coins & with the way scorpius looks- id be afraid she was a decendant and want to put off romantic gestures til maybe i was more sure of it -something as simple as a blood test would suffice. i like how he was really worried and started to have her guard her mind. there was a lot of depth to lucius here. i like how severus knows some stuff about hermione too. and oooh snape was so adorable with the present.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm working on the idea that they wouldn't be able to match their blood to the past. Severus' gift was more "I'm paying back for what you did for me now don't bother me again." XD
this story is just so cool. stingail- so i guess he is officially a marauder. andmore snape-yay-maybe now theyll be morefriendly.love the dream sequuences. thanks for the explaination of why she'll be getting all those memories of skills.remus and scorpius are so cute. but geee, how many suitors will hermione have?hmm i wonder if she will start defendingsnape moreandthus becomea sore spot for the marauders.oh i liked how h said that shefeels as if she should know what is up with remus.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
It depends on what your definition of a suitor is. Someone who dates her? Someone who gives her time of day? I'm trying to make this realistic. Most girls like Mione would have a lot of people hitting on her and such.
oh yeah, i keep forgeting to mention- who will fix hermione's big teeth now?good of the slytherins not to date til fifth year. yay remus is back in the circle. snape is more ostrized than i thought. what leads him to be so close to the malfoys then later?
im really enjoying this fic. its so refreshing and novel.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Hermione came to the past with an altered appearance. No big teeths. Severus' association with the Malfoy's in my "original" timeline was linked to Lily's betrayel. It's a little different this time around.Thank you~!
herbology is three times a week? is that cause itsa relatively shorter class? so scorpius was originally a gryffindor or isitbecause of his actions?and awww everyone transfering out of hufflepuff?hmmm is hermione finally gonig to be a friend to severus?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
We find out in the first book that Herbology is three times a week. I cut it down a bit in later years (canon doesn't tell us beyond first year). I think Score was originally a Gryf, but we don't really find out, so it's up to you mostly. =)
ooooooh loved the chapter - it was the dream seuences that did it for me. ooo, i thought about it and you did it- draco does have a thing for hermione. cute. and now he is helping her set up his dad for seduction hopefully not blotting out his birth since he hopes he will get to hook up with her when he'll be born again-and at least his son is insured a future. ron and harry were cute. “Don’t tell her that; I like feeling smart for once!” ^_________^ and the bit about hoping to be born. i wonder if scorpius is getting dreams too. oh yeah there was one thing bellatrix is the oldest sister oh and your lj link doesnt work. oh and pointing up is american? never heard of that and i had to make a presentation on table manners before. oh and you answered my uestion about what exactly is hermione and scorpius' age-so thanks.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I love the dream sequences in this story because they tell you things I couldn't tell you otherwise.
ahhhh, it just went as i pictured it- the hat wanting to put him in gryffindor but scorpius going to slytherin to follow his sister. but for the hat to say it out loud-that was a surprise.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Gotcha, didn't I? =D
I spotted the girl from the train, the Ravenclaw who’d told me not to go into Slytherin, sitting at the blue. I sniffed inwardly. No way in hell would I go into her House. yeah take that ravenclaw! and whoo hoo regulus! and good of the girls to welcome him like that. while im sure the black siblings and malfoy are suppose to be older, ill forgive it for now becaise at least they are a few years older. hmmmmm, i wonder how theyll feel if in a few years they are given a bunch of their real memories back.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I purposefully made Bella and Cissa twins instead, with Andromeda being an elder sister. Lucius I knocked down a few years because I wanted to show him more involved.
oh i forgotto mention i wonder what exactly is inflicting hermione in the last chapter. does lucius still maintain his six years on the marauders? hmmmm so hermione remembers a younger molly and ron-i wonder what else would they recall. also if any of their test answers display things that would be not be known yet. hmmmm shouldnt hermione figure out remus is a werewolf much earlier since it should have been slated in her memory somewhere?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
The affliction is Potions-based, we find that out in an already-posted chapter. Lucius has two years, not six, in my version. Hermione has had a lot of information taken away and retains more of others. It just depends.
im very curious on what exactly is their mission. hmmmm though i dont think sirius would be allowed to go to lupin's house especially in a muggle neighborhood unless he just told his family that he is going to the potter's.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm sure everyone is curious about the mission. It's an on-going question. And who says Sirius would tell his mum the truth on where he's going? *angelic smile*
i was very intrigued at the idea of scorpius, hermione, and molly being the members of a fic. im curious to know how will they accomplish their task while being obliviated. and how does molly feel about erasing people she knows. and how did future hermione and scorpius feel about itno less.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I wanted to do something familiar, yet entirely new. Focusing the story on someone who has been Obliviated... well, I'm just rolling with it atm. =)
There is no such thing as an ugly kitten. take it from the lady who presently owns 4 cats.Great story, hope to read m ore soon.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
The "ugly kitten" is indeed an oxymoron. I own seven of the sweeties myself. =)Thank you~!
scary, how Herms is willing to turn on Molly without complete evidence. Molly should have warded her journal, and I hope she figures out immediately that Hecate read it -- I cannot imagine Hecate and Scorpius living in this time without Molly's guidance. you're got me unnerved for Molly's sake! thanks for the new chapter.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Hermione is incredibly smart, but like she once said herself, books and cleverness only gets one so far. She doesn't have the experiences behind her to remind her not to judge on situational evidence alone, though. Thank you for the review~!
oh dear. what next? i can't wait for the ball! faboo update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
The ball was fun to write, but a bit difficult. You'll see. Thank you~!
Dang, the things we do in our ignorance, sometimes come back to haunt us. I hope things work out right for Hecate when she meets Tom. I enjoyed this chapter, especially your descriptive narrative of her surroundings.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Er... what's your definition of "work out right for Hecate" in this case? I really worked hard on coming up with En Beaute and Malfoy Manor of the Abraxas era, so thank you muchly!
Response from FlittterKat (Reviewer)
Uh oh, that sounds like a bad omen for Hecate's first meeting with Tom. I'm really thinking about the long term plan that sent her back in time. And btw, you're welcome.
Amazing! Loving This Story! Can Not Wait Until The Next Chapter! Love The Plot! Simply Amazing
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you~!
So here we are again. You updating, me telling you how much you rock my sox... What an amazing chapter! It's so cute to see Heck thinking about marriage! I know she's so young, but considering what she's gone through it really shows how much she feels for Lucius. Its awful but I can't wait for everything to blow up. I also love the dream sequences. I'm anxious for her to be able to remember them too. I'm sure theres still a long ways to go before we get there, but I can still dream can't I? Please update again soon! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
*snickers* I can't wait for the blow-up either. It gives me a morbid source of humor. The recollection of a dream(ish) state is coming up in a few chapters. Heck's got a few things to reconcile...Thank you muchly, luv! =)
Wow, how will she be able to go back to Molly?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Don't forget that she's a Slytherin, too. =) Thank you for the review!
Amazing! Loving Every Single Second Of This Story! Can't Wait For The Next Chapter! XxX XoX X-X
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^-^ Thank you!
I think with a teacher like Lucius, anyone could learn Occlumency. I also love the borgeonning relationship between Hecate and Lucius. She's so naive and he so gentleman. It's lovely.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
In my version of canon, Lucius was the one who taught Severus Occlumency. =) I like what my fickle little mind does to those two, comparing it to the way Lucius teaches Heck. I love their relationship, too, it really defines a lot of this story and how Mione ends up with Severus in the end. The balance between how the two act around her will become apparent in a few chapters. =) Thanks for your comments!
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
Thank you so much for revealing bits of information. I didn't ask for it, but I'm more than glad to have it.
what a superb update! this story just keeps drawing me in deeper and deeper. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
XD You just reminded me of Neo. "Find out how deep the rabbit hole goes," says Morpheus. XD Thanks - I'm glad you're enjoying. =)
Hmm, Hermione the death eater... That would be a different twist!! It sounds like Lucius is very close to figuring out Molly....I enjoyed your sketch of Alli!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I've seen her as a D.E. before, it's not pretty. Bella's got nothin' on Mione in most fics, lol. You're right -- he's dangerously close. Now when's he going to figure out the rest of it~?Thank you! =)
Having to face Voldemort, towards the end of eventually being recruited for the Death Eaters? Talk about a Christmas nightmare! And Heck is so worried for Lucius, so it sounds like she is going to go. Unless, maybe, Severus gets wind of it and manages to persuade her otherwise? And then there's Illi ... I like her so much it kind of blows the mind to be reminded that she's Pansy's mother. It begs the question what Pansy was really like, beyond the Slytherin attitude, back in Heck/Hermione's original time. Considering how fiercely protective Lucius is of Heck now, if she can only get the opportunity to introduce him to Muggle things and somehow make him see that Mugglebornes and Muggles are nothing like the way he's been raised to think they are ... then maybe Heck's mission has a chance to succeed. I have to wonder ... what would 15-year-old Lucius think of what he became, a wizard who would murder his only child to serve his own ends?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Hee, I like that description of the situation. Christmas nightmare. =D Sorry, that just made me laugh because it's soooo true. Going back to serious author mode... Heck really does care about her ooh-does and ooh-lahs in Slytherin, beyond the duty of the Creed (because we all know she's ACTUALLY a Gryffindor and Gryfs just don't do emotions half-way X_X). Sev's got some influence with her now, but I think anything less than Score getting in her face... well, you get what I mean. I am actually extremely fond of my imagined Pansy Parkinson "behind Slytherin lines" persona. She isn't like her mother at all, though -- takes too much after her father. I like that you're still not forgetting that Mione does have a mission here, even if she can't recall it. It means I'm doing my job. =) Thanks ever so much for this in-depth review! =) And I'm really glad that you like Illi.
Wonderful chapter as always. It's games within games for the Slytherins. Lucius is very taken with Hecate to tell her so much about his role with LV and teach her to protect herself. So, does Cissa have her eye on Lucius yet? Wonder what she thinks about their little meetings. The hair band was very clever. Loved the glimpse of Severus. Thanks for the long chapter.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Games within games within games. I have this whole chart thing going so I don't lose track of all these games. You gotta remember that this is Heck's perspective and you don't always see everything around you. Plus Score and the Marauders, plus LV and his lot, plus the rest of the school... @__@ lol, I love it, though. As for Cissa.... hmm... I could tell you, but then I'd have to Obliviate you. Maaaayvbeeee she's just a little... content with her lot? ;)I love the hair band. I wish it were real. My hair is almost as bad as Mione's. D=The glimpses of Sev are to remind everyone who's reading this for the slow-burn romance part that I'm NOT getting off the SSHG tangent of the fic. There were two ways of going about getting Sev with Heck -- getting him to notice her before or after the Lily Fiasco. You know which I chose. =)
eeps! I wonder if Hermione will tell Molly and Scorpius about everything or even anything -- the Malfoy invitation must be disclosed since Hermione will be leaving Scorpius and Molly during the holiday, and Herms should really warn Molly about the Malfoy galleons. Lucius wanting Herms to hide her memories of Scorpius -- it's public knowledge that Scorpius is her brother, so won't Voldy bw suspicious if she doesn't have any memories of him? Severus was a dear to make her the anti-chill potion, but Scorpius is still suffering from chills? your story always leaves me wanting for the next chapter!! thank you for updating.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Wow! Lot's of questions there, not so sure I can answer most of them. =) I'm glad that my little twist is causing a stir. Notice that Heck never mentioned whether Score suffered from chills or not. To clarify, he does not have the same symptoms as Heck. However, we aren't sure what his symptoms are. Of course Voldie would be suspicious of Heck if she has no memories of her brother. That really was just an exercise. Thus far, there's only the fact that Heck has continued associations with her brother while at school that she needs to hide. You may have a bit of a wait for the next chapter. Presession classes are tough!
Response from June W (Reviewer)
Scorpius is having memories return too?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm going to be honest: Score is not having any of the same symptoms at all, including a distinct lack of memory returns. All he has been getting are new memories.
Response from June W (Reviewer)
whoa... mysterious!
sad, very sad. beautifully written. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
It's going to get worse before it gets better, cakes. =) Thank you for the review.
