The future is bleak for the wizarding world after Voldmort died. Scorpius Malfoy and Molly Weasley become the future’s hope for the past. They enlist fourteen-year-old Hermione Granger’s help with two stipulations: She can never return to the future and she can’t remember it. Dealing with the Marauders is the least of their troubles. Severus/Hermione eventually, Lucius/Hermione to start. Scorpius/Hermione in a sibling relationship. Time-Turner fic with a twist.

Reviews for The Devil's Game
ACK!!! Molly did a very bad job of her Obliviate, as it now seems Hecate is even more determined to become a Death Eater. I wish Molly had told Hecate something to placate her, like "I can't tell you until 1981 and it was your idea in the first place to come to this time." Poor Sevrus is going to have to deal with Lily and Hecate. Yikes! Thanks for updating.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I don't think Molly realizes exactly what she just did. o.o I'm with you on Sev, though. Having to deal with Lils and Heck is going to be a nightmare. Thank youse~!
Oh, dear. It sounds like Hecate/Hermione is getting in wayyyy over her head. While Obliviating her memories as Hermione was necessary for her to accomplish her mission of befriending Lucius, it sounds like it has also created the very real danger of Hecate becoming someone her true self would despise. I do hope that rather than Heck succeeding in bringing Severus to Voldemort that Severus manages to get under her skin and make her realize what she is becoming, slowly but surely. Otherwise, I fear her fate could very likely mirror the Severus of her original time, someone haunted and hounded by the choices that he made. That would be so tragic.Anyhoo, I am really enjoying this story. You definitely have a real gift for suspense!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
The worst part is, ya'll still don't know if this was what was intended all along or not. o.o Least I can rest assure ya'll that she will remember whether it was... or not. The direction she's headin' in, though.... eek. Thank you so much! =) HermioneDiggory's response: Good point. It is necessary for Heck to assimilate into Lucius' world in order to influence his attitudes and future actions as much as possible. But maybe Hermione needs another visit from Draco. If anyone knows what it's like to be immersed in Slytherin politics and Pureblood dogma, it's him. Or Severus. So far he hasn't turned up in Heck's dreams...
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
There's a reason Sev hasn't turned up in any of Heck's dreams. =) Actually, several people haven't that might have been able to help.
Amazing! I'm Speechless! This story is really good! can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you! =)
Wow, That was an excessive amount of time to get ready! I don't even think it took me that long to get ready for my wedding! Hahaha. Thank you so much for this updat though. I'm really worried about our girl meeting with moldie-voldie! I can't wait to see what happens next! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I don't think anyone's more worried about meeting Volde than Illi. 0.o She's still yelling at me about the next chapter. I know what you mean by excessive time. I've never gone to a party of any note higher than ummm... maybe a birthday party? o.o I don't do dress-up. I'll prolly walk my aisle in blue jeans. XD The next chapter is in the queue! Actually, I just sent the corrections back. ^^ Thank youse!
Hecate's memories are like a ticking time bomb, and it's scary to think of when she'll remember what Lucius and Bella are going to be like. I hope Molly doesn't get in trouble with Lucius' father; she could always explain her unease by saying the Malfoys are far wealthier than the Taylors. A 13-year-old girl getting new dress robes from a 15-y-o boy? Whoa. Thanks for the new chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Tick tock tick tock! You're so right. I shudder to think what will happen then, especially with all the stuff that's coming up. Heck turned fourteen in October, but yeah, I know what you mean. Thanks for the review! =)
Response from June W (Reviewer)
psst.... you might want to edit the chapter. It says: I was thirteen years old. There was no way I’d be asked to marry so soon. ... I wouldn’t always be thirteen. still, fourteen is youing to meet Voldy. meeps!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
...D'OH! *rushes off to fix* Thank you~! I woulda just left it never knowin'. @_@
Response from June W (Reviewer)
heh-heh! you gotta be careful -- we readers pore over every word you write. if you say "thirteen" then that's what we believe. power of your pen!
Fantastic chapter... and now the depression as I wait for the next installment ;) Your fic has me truly enthralled.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Oh, thank you! I'm glad it's made an impression. =)
This is really fun. No wonder Slytherins are so smug, it appears to be a wonderful house-- if you didn't have to worry about Voldemort.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Smug, yes. Worried? Not overly much. I'm glad it's entertaining. =) Thanks for the review!
While sorting through my emails I realized that I never actually posted a review for this chapter. I know that I was waiting to review because I wanted to leave you some type of extremely encouraging, profound review... I love this story so much. I know I've told you this in the previous 11 chapters, but I can't think of another way to say it. You've created this fantasic plot and you're following everything along so nicely. I'm so extremely impressed. I love thier personalities and how you describe everything. Thank you so much for this story, and I look forward to everything that is to come. Much Love Always ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
You always leave me such thoughtful reviews, I've come to look forward to them. I love this fic so much, I write on it at least a little every day. And to know that that work and love pays off just makes me sooo happy. Thank you for taking the time to read it and let me know that you are enjoying it so far. =)
I'm so glad you manage to save what you've written so far. It would have been a great shame to have lost such a quality story.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Funnily enough (or not, depending on your POV), I almost lost the pin drive too. Thank you for the compliment! =)
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
Maybe you should sent what you've written to me so I can save it for you... *grin*
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
XD lol, well, that might be an idea... I still have no beta, y'know. I managed only nine mistakes this last time, though.
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
Only 9 mistakes !!!! Well done!! But don't ask me to be your beta if that was your intent. I'm awful at grammar and punctuation.
Amazing! Loved Every Second Of This Story! Can't Wait For The Next Chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you! =)
I actually like Lucius in this. Can't wait to see what happens and how their relationship evolves. They're uncovering more and more. I wonder, will they ever find out that Heck is Muggle-born?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I feel that Lucius' childhood was different before he joined LV and I feel that the presence or absence of a person to care about is what shapes our lives. They will find out a lot more than that she's Muggle-born by the end of this. =) The ride's going to get more and more bumpy!
You've got tons of great story ideas, and a very original main plot line. So great to see a story listed as 'abandoned' (hey, they have to do it after a certain amount of time! :) ) getting a second life. After reading a little of your LJ, I'm also very glad you're writing again. Welcome back, and I'm eager to see where you take this story!
I stayed up to 4:30 am reading this story so my mind is a big muddled for a good review. It's one of the best fanfictions I've ever read. Please, when you have time, work on completing it.
Glad a new chapter's out on this story, I've missed it! But I understand that classes will get in the way of extracurricular activities... I hope you'll get to relax a little over the summer!Interesting about Molly's note--she obviously knows that Hermione is having dreams and vague memories, and wants to dispel any thoughts she might be having of taking those things seriously! However, she may have just inadvertantly made Hermione more suspicious instead. I hope that Hermione will confide to Scorpius some of her remembered dreams in the spelled journal they made--perhaps we'll find out whether or not he's been having any himself. And if so, once they begin comparing notes they might be able to make greater headway in regaining their memories. Remus would have to know too, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.I hope that the investigation into the potion ingredients found in Hermione's bloodstream won't wind up making trouble for her in Slytherin as things are pieced together. Perhaps by the time the truth begins to come out, at least some of the Slytherins will have already become too emotionally attached to "Hecate" to be able to just turn their backs on her.Looking forward to the next installment!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
No relaxation to be had. I start summer classes week after my finals! Molly's mollycoddling ways certainly seem to be making more ill than good so far, yes. That she knew and didn't say anything before... well, you'll just have to wait and see just how far it takes Hecate. =)He's a little open secret that I have between Heck and Score - they're foils of one another. And I happen to know that the potions ingredients make trouble, all right, just maybe not what you're thinking of. Thanks for reading and leaving such a splendid review. ^-^
Its funny I was just thinking about this story the other day. I was thinking jeez, I haven't seen an update in a bit...and here it is! Thank you so much for continuning this tale! I loved the Hear no Evil, See no Evil, Speak no Evil spell! What a great idea!! Thanks Again for the update. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I know... it's all because of finals, no worries! As for the Japanese spell, I really wanted to get away from the Latin spells because I think most spells are linked to intent more than fancy words. Hence also the Hindi words for the blood spell, considering that Hindi medicine has a lot of influence in traditional magic.
So the Slytherin dads would highly desire to add Hecate to their families, hmmm. Will Lucius still want her if he finds out she isn't pure or half blood? Not to mention the other Slytherin families. I don't know who Scorpius' mother is, but knowing Draco, she's probably pure blood. That knowledge would rock the wizarding world. Wonderful chapter, enjoy your summer break and I look forward to your next post.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Oh, I think you know the answer already to the other Slytherin fams. However, I'm going to withhold comment on Lucius. Ever wonder whether this is precisely what Hermione-future was planning in the first place or not? I'm still undecided whether this was the purpose, or something like it. After all, purpose of trip was to change Luc's mind about Muggle-borns. But, yes, a Muggle-born Slytherin will definitely rock the WW to its core - if they find out. I don't get a summer break. I'm taking two classes - General Chemistry and Magic, Witchcraft, and Religion. =) It's gonna be a wild summer.
Another good chapter. I am looking forward to the devopment of Severus' character. I missed him in the Dark arts meeting.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
We'll get more of Sev soon, though prolly not in the way ya'll are hopin'. See it from the Slytherin perspective. Heck can't associate with him until something else happens. =) *hint* lol, thanks for the review.
I wonder if Severus already knows those spells and 'tenets' of being a Slytherin. very sad that Scorpius is facing rejection by his new house too! I think Molly might sense the tension when the kids go home for Christmas. thanks for the new chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Severus attended the meetings at first. Like Lucius said earlier, Sev didn't know pureblood table manners and that's one of the things they teach. So yes, he'd at least know the basics. Score and Remus are both highly intelligent, and they know that Heck faces rejection if she's caught "fraternizing with the enemy." Molly is definitely going to know what's going on. =) Thanks for the review!
This story is so interesting...I'm starting to enjoy it more than I had been too :)Just one thing I wanted to mention: “'Whom are you referring to?' I asked, the early signs of annoyance beginning with a clench of my chest."Where you said that...it should either be "Who are you referring to?" or "To whom are you referring?"I can't wait for the next chapter!!! :)
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm glad you're enjoying it a bit more. I love a good plot twist, especially if I can manage to take ya'll by surprise. Thanks for pointing that mistake out, I'll go fix it. Thanks for reading!
I'm really hooked on your story although I'm a fan of happy endings and this isn't really pointing that way... I miss the old Hermione too but I love your insight into the Slytherin gang. I'm really looking forward the next chapter, I hope you keep on writting :)
Wow, Okay I didn't see that coming. Why ask to be put in Slytherin if you're just going to be miseerable? Score could have been with his new friends! Obviously Hecate has herself under control, he didn't need to torture himself to "protect" her. Argh, he's going to be a huge fun hater. I can't wait to see what happens next! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Dumbledore and Hecate are going to have a few things to say to Score when things get rolling. =) Heck has things under control all right...
Are you wet in the morning, then?” I asked. Lucius just grinned wider. “Are you?”
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
XD Yup! I wondered how many people would catch that. I still haven't decided whether he was actually being serious about the water dumped on his head or not. =)
How delicious! An update and knowing its all written and in the queue>!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thanks, cakes. =)
Really glad to see you come back to this story. Such a unique concept and I can't wait for more. Thanks so much for sharing!
