The future is bleak for the wizarding world after Voldmort died. Scorpius Malfoy and Molly Weasley become the future’s hope for the past. They enlist fourteen-year-old Hermione Granger’s help with two stipulations: She can never return to the future and she can’t remember it. Dealing with the Marauders is the least of their troubles. Severus/Hermione eventually, Lucius/Hermione to start. Scorpius/Hermione in a sibling relationship. Time-Turner fic with a twist.

Reviews for The Devil's Game
The pieces are there, it's only a matter of time before Hecate figures out what's wrong with Remus. Ahha, so the obliviate potion will eventually clear her system and she'll remember why and what she has to do. Wonderful chapter, loved seeing young Severus.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Yes, but how will she react when she does figure out Remus? The Obliviate Potion will eventually clear up a lot of her questions. I'm not so sure she's going to want those questions answered by the time it does happen, though. Sometimes being a know-it-all has its downside. =P We'll be seeing more of Sev shortly.
The title of this chapter says it all. There are so much unsolved mysteries in there. And I'm so sad for Poppy. Losing her new husband must be terrible. On another note, I can't help but notice that Lucius seems to be closer to Hecate... I'm not sure that's a good thing because Scorpius could disappear just like that.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
And we're going to spend oodles of time solving each one. =) I know... I can barely imagine it. On the Lucius note... =) Who said not marrying Narcissa would make Score disappear? Ah, time travel. How wonderful and mysterious thou art.
Yay another update so soon! I was doing a little dance when I received the notification that this updated again! What a woncderful chapter! I love how you have everything evolving an moving along. I felt so bad for Poppy! I couldn't imagine losing my husband that early in life. But in war, these things happen. Thank you so much for continuing this wonderful story. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^-^ Glad someone's dancing for this one. Losing Gideon Pomfrey was an unfortunate element that brought the war closer to home for Heck. Her first glimpse of the Dark Mark... Thank for for continuing to read and continuing to support me. =)
That's cute ... I like 'Stingtail' for Scorpius' Marauder name. But poor Madame Pomfrey, widowed so young. That's awful! I have to say that Lucius really creeps me out sometimes, but especially now after the reference to his father. Lucius is often so sweet to Heck that it's hard to remember this is the same person who would eventually murder his own son. Not to mention what he would do to Heck should he ever begin to suspect the truth...*Shivers*
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Poppy's singleness during canon really got me thinking about how she learned so much. I wanted a motivation for her, for Heck, and for Severus for several reasons. I also wanted a connection for Heck to Poppy for later reasons. Gideon's death was planned, but I wish I hadn't because I liked him. =(XD Lucius creeps you out? GOOD. That's exactly what I was aiming for. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
wow..... this is a packed chapter. poor Madam Pomfrey! I hope Scorpius isn't participating in the Marauders' harassment of Severus. this is before Severus discovers that Lupin is a werewolf? I wonder if Molly would be alarmed to know Hecate and others are figuring out the potion used on her. and when will Hecate really understand Lucius' comment about his father?? oh, I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next chapter!! please hurry....
Response from June W (Reviewer)
forgot to ask.... we haven't seen a lot of Narcissa lately. she still going to marry Lucius? he doesn't seem to have time for her!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Heck continues to correspond with them and Score is already helping with the picking on Snivellus scheme. She doesn't consider him a Marauder, but obviously the rest of the school disagrees. Molly would definitely be alarmed by Heck's progress on understanding just what happened to her. As for the question about Cissa... well, you'll just have to wait and see, right? =) Thanks for reading and leaving a wonderful review. There's a short story in the Q now, but I'm working on the next chapter's copy editing right now. =)
wow. crazy, CREEPY time-confusing dream sequence in the middle. very strange.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
LOL, why thank you. It was actually meant to clarify a few things, but muddle up some others. Hope that's a good strange =) Thanks for reading.
That is horrible, getting all caught up in that time period's politics that way.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Honey, you haven't seen nothin' yet. =) Thanks for the review!
brilliant! thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Nah, thank you! =)
Should I understand that ni=othing will happen between Heck and Lucius for the next two years? She will die of frustration first. *grin*
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I did mark this as "action/adventure" AND "romance." LOL Well, I'm not so sure that Luc is going to keep his hands off her... =)
Aw, she has to wait until fifth year to date. I was kind of excited to see where Lucius and she might go.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Well, dating in public is one thing... =) You know Luc.
Yay! I'm so happy that Score went to Gryffindor!!! He was really a buzz kill. I'm also thrilled to see the developing relationships and how everyones evolving. Even though I know he's a douche, It was nice to see Lucius being so conforting and supportive. Thanks for the update. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Is Lucius really, now? Heh, I didn't think I'd given any indication that he was, least not yet. =) As for Score, we haven't seen the last of his days as a once-Slytherin. Thanks, cakes!
I love how you describe the intern ways of Slytherin House. It's a new world to discover and so different of Gryffindor as we know it. It's very pleasant. On an other note, I find curious that students only have class on the morning. And why so much Herbology compared to classes like tranfiguration, charms, DADA or potions. I would have thought these subjects more important. And last, why Illi called for Lucius' help when Hecate is distraught. I thought no boy could go into the girls dormitry. Thanks again for this wonderful story.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I really thought that Slytherin, in particular, would be very different from the other Houses. =)I based a lot of the classes on what we know from the books. My first few entries on my blog are about how the classes are possible to be taught without a Time-Turner or assistants. There are actually a total of six possible class slots daily as I made them, not counting Astronomy because it's at night. The Slytherins just happen to have all morning classes for third-year. It'll change in fourth. I always thought it odd that Herbology was so common, too, but that's the only class we know of that has three days a week. To make it possible, I reduced the number of classes students have after a certain year for Herbology. I've decided that each House dorm was designed by their respective Founder. Slytherin, I think, would be more trusting of his students because they live up to "pureblood standards." More on this later in the story. Thanks for the insightful review. =)
love the slytherin comradery. wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you for reading! =)
hmm, no Muggle Studie class; I wonder when Lucius will reveal to Hecate what he thinks of Muggles. and I wonder why the girls fetch Lucius for Hecate, instead of getting a girl prefect? seems a bit early for him to be making moves on her! do the Taylor twins write to Molly? and why does Dumbledore think their parents were Gryffindors, or does he know more about Hecate and Scorpius than they know themselves?? thanks for the new chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
LOL, you're full of questions! I'll try to answer what I can. I don't think any self-respecting Slytherin would be in Muggle Studies. Illi fetches Luc because they're friends. Lucius is simply up to his own tricks with Heck, not really making moves yet. The twins will be writing to Molly shortly. The Notitia Charm will be explained in more depth later in the story. It is sort of like a file full of data about their witch or wizard. As Ollivander tells us, wandlore is a deep and mysterious study and even he doesn't know everything. The wand has a sense of what sort of person using it is like. It also stores information like a person's birthdate, age, and true personality representative by numbers. Of course, that information is scrambled up a bit by time travel, so we get a skewed result. Still. At least Heck and Score have a birthday now, right?
Slytherin House is a world unto itself. Fascinating. So, I wonder if Severus hexed Scorpius that first night? I kind of thought Scorpius should be in Gryffindor so I'm not surprised too much by the change. It will be interesting to see how he influences them as Hecate influences her friends. I'm enjoying your story and I can't wait for the next chapter. Thanks for sharing with us.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
A lot happened that first night for Score and I'm not really all that certain when it's going to come out. There are many reasons Vector decided to use the Notitia Charm and why Dumbledore allowed Scorps to change without discussing it with the Hat. I've always imagined Slytherin House to be this completely separate entity from the rest of the school, which is just one more reason they act so high and mighty.
I hope Scorpius will be happier now. Lucius seems to be quite taken with Hecate.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
=) Me, too. Is Lucius really taken with her, or is he acting the part? I'm still wondering myself, to be honest. XD
I've realized something after these dreams. If Hermione can change Lucius' view about Muggles, won't she change the future drastically? Like Severus going with Lilly instead of James? Or Lucius e not chosing Narcissa but Hecate? All her actions in this time line can creat a new future and Harry,Draco or Scorpius will never exist because I don't suppose she can go back to her own time. I already like your story a great deal but now I can the intricacies of it I'm much addicted.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I've definitely considered all that. I'm already certain of the destruction of two people in Harry's year, to be honest, plus the addition of another. This story is going to change things drastically, while others, as they say, are destined to come about. =) Now you know why I'M so excited.
Just finished these latest two chapters--loved that Scorpius flat out rejected Gryffindor! Does he have any subliminal memories or dreams telling him who he used to be?I hope Hermione catches on to the idea of a "dream journal" next to her bedside; it will help her keep the knowledge of those snippets of info if she can write any of them down before they slip away. On the other hand, if secrecy is paramount she'd better make sure that her book is warded to prevent unauthorized eyes from reading or the gig may be up before she can do much...Tines down for Brits, hmm? I guess that sort of makes sense--the curvature of the tines would mimic the curvature of the roof of the mouth so it would "fit" better. I'm too stuck in my ways at this point, though! Can't wait to see what happens next!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I've got some surprises in store yet in regards to all of that. Trust, secrets, and lies... hmm, what better place to consider these than from within the most cunning House of all? =) Thanks for reading. Next chapter's in the queue!
At least we see Lucius' wicked personality. Are you wet in the morning, then?” I asked. Lucius just grinned wider. “Are you?”Several of the older students snickered, but Ali and I exchanged a confused look at the quip. Why was that funny? Ali I can understand, she's far too young and innocent. But Hermione? Right, she's no memory, but Scorpius did understand the under meaning, so she has a lot to learn. I guess the other girls will make her education. *snicker*
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I love Lucius. He's just so... Lucius. =) As for the difference between Mione and Score knowing dirty jokes... Score WAS good friends with Hugo Weasley, James and Albus Potter, and Teddy Lupin. He recalls everything he's ever read.... =) Heh heh, you do the Arithmancy.
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
LOLYou forget he hung around three (especially two) of the Marauders for the most part of the summer. HIHIHI
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
True, true, I did forget that. You have quite the devious mind. =)
Sometimes getting lost in RL is a good thing. That way there is no really cliffie for me as I just have to hit the next button to know where Scorpius will be sorted.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I caught this review just as I was heading out the door for school - thanks for the laugh. =) I wouldn't believe everything quite yet, though.
facinating, absolutely facinating. loved draco in the dream. altho i'm a devoted ss/hg shipper i also belong to the abr (anybody but ron) club. i do like the ron in your story, tho. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I wanted to stick to canon religiously, which is why Lucius didn't start all his BS until Scorpius' third year. I belong to the whatever-makes-sense club of things. 'Fraid the Malfoy influence is going to be oh-so-interesting... =) I'm enjoying myself much too much. Thanks for reading.
Oh wow. The Plot Thickens! I love this story. I loved her first dream when she fighting with McGonagall over what her name is and what houshe she belongs in. "Snape will have my brim for biscuts" Hahaha I seriously love this story. Please update again soon. Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
LOL, I love that our Hermione is back - argumentative to a fault, her. The Plot will continue to thicken, as it were. =) I can't just write a simple love story. Nope, nope, not me. I gotta make everything complicated. XD Thanks for makin' me laugh, cakes, it's much appreciated.
I want to live in the Slytherin dorms! Great chapter! Hermione really is a know-it-all, isn't she? She thinks of everything, even how she will stay on the right track without the full knowledge of her purpose there. Amazing!Looking forward to the next update.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
When designing what was beyond the curtains of the Slytherin common room, I thought of what Salazaar would want his precious purebloods to have access to. What better than a hot spring swimming pool to wash up in? Complete with waterfall showers. I loved designing it, and I'm glad you like it. Yeah, Mione is still our little know-it-all. Just what is she being "nudged" into, though? =P Thanks for reading!
Okay, I officially want an area like the Slytherin bathing, swimming and laundry area. That was just too cool.
So Hecate is dreaming of her old life. I wondered how she was to influence Malfoy and the future with out any knowledge from her old future.
I loved this chapter and I'm so envious of the Slytherin girl's school home. Btw, will we be seeing what Molly is up to?
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Salazaar certainly knew how to pamper his precious purebloods. =) Mione had some tricks up her sleeve when she she made this plan. Unfortunate that plans tend to go awry. Molly's involvement won't be completely revealed until much, much later in the story. When I use first person POV, I'm very meticulous about what I reveal and when.
Well, at least she knows her name! I like that you're at least letting us know what's going on with her dreams, and that they'll leave some subconscious imprint.Very interesting also, that she won't be going back to her time.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
There are a couple reasons why I included the dreams, and why I revealed them in perfect clarity when Heck doesn't recall anything from them. As someone else mentioned to me already, this is a very strong bit of untested. experimental magic. Hmm... I wonder what that means for how well it's going to work~
