The future is bleak for the wizarding world after Voldmort died. Scorpius Malfoy and Molly Weasley become the future’s hope for the past. They enlist fourteen-year-old Hermione Granger’s help with two stipulations: She can never return to the future and she can’t remember it. Dealing with the Marauders is the least of their troubles. Severus/Hermione eventually, Lucius/Hermione to start. Scorpius/Hermione in a sibling relationship. Time-Turner fic with a twist.

Reviews for The Devil's Game
One thing I've been wondering about... If Hermione retains her knowledge and all the things she's actually read, wouldn't she remember that she's at least knowledgeable about the muggle world and suspect that she was either muggle-born or muggle-raised. After all, knowing about cars, electricity, phones, and other things are likely indications. After all, we can see she's still smart, but the first 11 years of her life were in the muggle-world. I can't imagine she forgot the things she's learned there, or that would really pose a problem. Just curious.Great chapter and looking forward to reading more!!

She does make an assumption based on that knowledge, but it is at first wrong. It's pretty simple - she thinks she and Score are half-bloods. She can't remember WHEN she's recalled things from - what she read when - so therefore she figures she's read both worlds on the same level at one point. It comes in handy later on down the line. Thanks for reading and picking at my brain. =) It really does help.
Sweet! I like the way you had her have a dream potion. Is it really tines up for Americans and tines down for British? I never knew that. Heehee way to go for the update!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
There's a lot of thought put into that one potion. I'm positive Severus would be proud of me - and by extension Hermione - for coming up with it. There'll be more repercussions later on. As for the dining manners... yeah, it really is tines up for American. I really don't understand the tines down for Britain, because stuff slips off the fork so easy that way. Thanks for reading. =)
An interesting intro. One would figure that the Slytherins would take care of their own, but it's still nice to see.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
=) Yeah, especially their young'uns. The phrase becomes a sort of mantra for Hecate, so I'm glad you picked up on it. Thanks for reading!
I would have bet good money that Scorpius would be sorted to Gryffindor. Severus is neither fish nor fowl. Poor guy, at least so far, he's still friends with Lily. I'm not looking forward to the meeting between the twins and their Gryffindor friends. Great chapter, I can't wait for the next half.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Oh, I've got some tricks up my sleeve yet. Yeah... I figured this was how it really started with Sev and Lils. Just quietly ignoring the others in their houses. But Lily Evans, bless her soul, is a social creature. And as Molly said, it's okay to have other friends. Except we all know exactly what Lils thinks of Sev's friends.
what an interesting glimpse into slytherin life. great update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
You haven't seen nothin' yet. ^_~ lol, no, thank you!
Very nice sorting song, I liked the way their uniform immediately conformed to their house as they were sorted. I had never thought about it before.
It's interesting how Hecate formed a relationship with the movers and shakers in Slytherin. Although I can see why she wouldn't feel comfortable with the Marauders. The Marauders are openly insensitive while the Slyths are outwardly polite and charming.
I'm enjoying the story and your reasoning on LJ.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
That's not the only thing I've got in here that most folk never think of. Even JK didn't really explain what wizarding "robes" looked like. If you study the differences between the book covers and the movie versions, there's even a difference there. I've always viewed Slytherins as impeccably polite - to the right people. Draco was at least coldly polite toward Harry in Madam Malkin's before he discovered his identity. Thanks so much for everything!
Response from FlittterKat (Reviewer)
I've always thought their robes were dress like (like a choir robe maybe) with a collar because they wore house colored ties. Also, they could be worn with out any other underlying shirt, pants because remember what happened to Severus when James flipped him upside down. :(
Very nice sorting. Not so nice cliffie. I'm voting... Gryffindor for Scorpius.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Are you sure about that, now? ^_^ Thanks - I worked really hard on the song. I hate rhyming, it's my writing weakness.
She *was* a Slytherin, I knew it! Woo hoo! Just wait until she get those old memories back... she'll be so embarrassed...Now watch, I'm expecting Scorpius to be a Gryffindor but he'll end up in Hufflepuff of all places. Just to mess with our heads... Hope you post the next chapter soon!BTW, I'm curious... are you from Texas? Just wondering, since you use the "y'all" in your Author Comments. I'm from Texas and I "y'all", too, even though I don't have the expected accent...
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^__^ Were you expecting Hecate to be a Ravenclaw so she can get annoyed? As for Scorpius... first impressions are not always ever-lasting, as they say, but they are important. I shall be, as you say, messing with ya'll's heads a touch quite a bit. I'm a Navy brat - I've lived practically everywhere. Spent a couple weeks in Dallas area when I was twelve, but nothing long-term. I picked up my accent in small-town Georgia, actually. Family from the area, plus I lived there three months. All sorts of accents slip from my tongue, unfortunately. So people sometimes wonder what the hell I am - nothing and everything, really. ^^;
Hmm, so what are those little deceptions going to mean for Hermione--er, Hecate? Is there going to be a Slytherin sorting in her future this time around? And Scorpius is getting along so well with Remus, James etc. that I can see him going into Griffindor so he can hang out with them more. Talk about turnarounds...Thanks for the Sev teaser, and I am on to the next chapter!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I'm actually working on something like chapter twenty-one now, though I seem to be combining a lot of the chapters down, so it's more like ten. Sev's only just now taking an active role in the story. ^^; Score and Heck have a bit of a bumpy ride ahead of them for the Sorting. ^_^
I just started reading this story today, and I'm really enjoying it so far! Love Scorpius as a character, and am always pleased to see more fan stories featuring him... I'm looking forward to how the two will try to figure out what's really going on, since it seems obvious that they know something's not kosher with Molly.
Sorry to be so brief, but I want to hurry on to the next chapter in this thing!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^_^ Yay, new reader! I really wanted Score to reflect what Draco and Su Li's influences in post-Voldewar II wizarding Britain would be like, especially with Lucius being the way he became. I'm glad you like my version of him. Thank you for reading! ^_^
he's going into griffindor i just know it! wonderful update. thanks so much
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
*evil laugh* You never know... thank you for the review! ^_^
Hey you! That's totally not fair! You can't leave a girl with a cliffe like that! Especially when she loves your story so much! I love how Hecate is being accepted so easily into the Slytherin fold. It's really awesome. It makes me wonder how she's going to feel about it when she gets her memories back! And Alioth is such a cutie! Maybe you could draw a picture of her so I can see what she looks like in your mind, but she's absolutley adorable to read about! Anyways, I'm like a junkie for this fic! Please update again soon! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Funny, I've already got an inked picture of Ali and Regulus... ^_^ I just need to paint it. Actually, I'm thinking of scanning in several pictures together so we've got a group pic of the whole Slytherin gang. Would need to do one of Cissa and Bella, tho. >.< (I don't like those two - can you tell yet?) This story is headed for massive explosions when Hecate recalls her full history. But that's not for a looooong while yet. As for the cliffie... well, let's just say that first impressions don't always become lasting.
Things are going nicely it seems. It was goos to meet Severus even if it was short. I'm also a bit disapoited in Hecate for falling to Lucius. Really I thought she'd known better.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
That's just my point with majority of this story - she doesn't know any better. Her outlook on life is skewed to what she's known in a few short months. And the fact is, the only people who have been nice to her are Lucius, Remus, Molly, the Pomfreys, and Dumbledore.
An excellent plot a wonderful beginning !! Love it already>
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you!
Love your little hints at foreshadowing, although they're frustrating!
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
^_^ That's the point, lol. Thanks!
Oh Wow. Thank you so much for throwing in some Severus at the end! Although it was just a tease since they didn't actually get to talk to one another! I've actually been trying to read this update since it posted but I couldn't get it to load on my cell phone from Florida! Anyways thanks for this awesome update. The interaction between Scorpius and Lucius was hilarious but I'm afraid for what is to come with Hermione's comment after that scene. I'm so happy she got a memory back too! I just can't wait to see what happens next!!!!! Much Love ~ Brena
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
One thing I always find with Sev is that people tend to make him very approachable. I just don't view him like that, hence how difficult the original approach is for Heck. Plus, Heck's original goal was to convince Lucius that Muggle-borns are all right, so her subconscious is pushing her toward Luc a lot. Glad you enjoyed! ^_^
thanks for bringing sev in at the end for those of us impatient ones. wonderful update. loved the discription of fawks. thanks so much and i look forward to the next chapter.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I was getting a bit impatient myself as I was reading back over it, to tell the truth. :3 I really worked hard on describing Fawkes, so I'm glad that you liked it. Thanks for reading!
It's interesting to see how the kids are making new friends and speculate how they will influence them. I can't wait to see who Hermione makes friends with. Loved the chapter and can't wait to see what happens next.
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
I like to think that I've made very good judgement calls on whom they become friends with. Two of them are OCs, but the others are easily recognizable. I especially like the fact that Heck retains a lot of her previous self even as other parts of her are changing.
what an exciting chapter! thanks muchly
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Thank you, cakes!
It was fantastic how Hermione/Heck was quick on the draw to shield Severus and Lily from the incoming bludgers.
Bummer about Scorpius being so bent out of shape due to Hecate/Hermione's usage of Legilimency.~*~*~I thought that it was brilliant how Severus was the ONLY one able to break through her wards to ensure her safety, good health, whatever, and get her to eat a meal. I also thought that it was interesting that he chose to tell her that Lucius loves her in a romantic way.'“Malfoy loves you,” Severus said quietly after two sandwiches. ...“... I don’t mean brotherly” – he spat the word – “love, Taylor.”...“Your little memory problem is like a double-ended dagger,” Severus said, his eyes finding that spot over my shoulder again, "if you can’t see that Lucius wants you. Or perhaps you were always so unobservant, which I highly doubt.” He stood abruptly. “Go to your friends, woman, before they do something stupid.”'Oh my gosh! From the dialog above, it is apparant to me that Severus has been observing her for quite awhile now to have noticed that Lucius loves her (Heck/Hecate/Hermione) in a non-brotherly fashion, and that Severus sees her as a woman (someone worthy of his attentions). Also, he didn't need to stay near her, to make sure that she ate something, unless he, himself, was concerned for her well-being too--very interesting!:D ~*~*~Well done--keep up the good work!
☺
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
lol, I'm so glad you noticed! Sev is going to be a bit of an enigma for a while. ;) Thanks!
EEK! Heck/Hermione is truly on a downward slide into the cesspit of Death Eaterdom with her rubbing elbows with Lord Voldemort and such. Why on the gods' green earth didn't Molly ward the trunk that the journal is kept in, the closet, and her room in general; especially since Hermione is both SO very intelligent, AND a Slytherin?Well done--keep up the good work!☺~*~*~F.Y.I.--error found needing correction:'“... You don’t know her, but Dora is his mother. She’s Andromeda Black’s granddaughter ["granddaughter" should be "daughter"].”'
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Gryffindors are too trusting! lol Thanks for the correction. I feel silly now. ^^;
Hmm, so both Draco and Molly are afraid that Hermione may turn into an evil Death Eater, muggle killing scumbag, huh? I hope that she does NOT have to kill, torture, or betray anyone... you know?Lucius is so cute that he actually cares what Heck thinks of his house and such--how sweet.
:D I don't blame Illi for being scared shiteless.Well done--keep up the good work!☺
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
That makes two of us, on all accounts! XD Thanks!
I love how gentle, caring, and loving Lucius is with Heck (Hecate/Hermione).
Well done--keep up the good work!
☺
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
Lucius is... well, himself. =) Thanks!
Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, Lucius is a sexy studly specimen of Slytherin man-meat and Hermione/Hecate/Heck is one lucky girl to have him personally teach her Occlumency, especially in such an intimate setting and manner.;~D Great story--well written--keep up the good work!☺
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
=) I know I wouldn't mind being taught Occlumency like that. Hell, screw the Occlumency - anything! lol Thanks, hon.
Why is the Oblivate potion having a different reaction in Hermione than it is in Scropius? I thought that Hermione knew all of those hexes, jinxes, curses, and charms due to her extensive reading habits.
Lucius has been fantastically solicitous to Hermione in helping her to fit in as a Slytherin, getting to know her as a friend, and helping to console her when she is emotional and/or distressed.Bummer about Madam Pomfrey's husband being killed in Hogsmeade.Well done--great story--keep up the good work!☺
Response from Ugly Kitten (Author of The Devil's Game)
We discover later why Heck is being effected differently. =) But yes, she does know a bit more than Score to begin with anyway. Thanks!
