After a new law reduces witches to chattel, Hermione Granger finds herself married to Severus Snape in order to keep her from the Death Eaters.
Hermione begins to shadow Severus in his work with the Order. They begin to form a mutual respect and love for each other after Hermione works as negotiator to a matriarchal secret society, the Amazons.
Severus stations them in Russia, where his family has a home, and his cousin is active in patriarchal secret society, the Mystic Brotherhood, who has been at odds with the Amazons for years.
After the Final Battle is fought, one would think the Order would be done with its work, but after Harry is scarred forever, Hermione is given a holy artifact, and a mysterious string of Muggle murders catches the attention of the Ministry, it seems as if their work is just beginning...

Reviews for The Marriage Law
“Good morning, Sunshine,” a deeply sarcastic voice came from her room. LOL! Poor Hermione. There's nothing quite so bad as waking up with a hangover.Poor Severus, as well. He and Hermione are beginning to notice each other as husband and wife, and our Potions Master has found that he must take matters into his own hands a lot lately.I'm glad Helga will have a chance to visit with the other Headmasters' portraits while Severus and Hermione are on their honeymoon. She will get to visit with Lyons again... "He was a charming fellow. Sang in the morning. Lovely voice. Firm backside.”Severus' parents are a hoot, and I think that Anastasia and Jacob will do everything they can to encourage the bride and groom to start their married life on the right foot... err... bed. Maybe Anastasia can convince Crookshanks to come stay with her for a while... Hummmm.... Great chapter!!!Beth

Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
They'll figure it out sooner or later :D
I swear, I think Severus' retort to Molly is one of the funniest things I've ever read, bar none! In fact, I may have to borrow it the next time someone asks me if I've gone crazy. I'm looking forward to the next update!
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks :D It's actually a line I heard in college. It never stops being funny.
You make my day every time you update! I can't wait to see if Snape's parents stay for a bit or leave right away.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks! You actually get to see quite a bit of Severus' extended family soon.
Someone tell Crookshanks that they are married and don't need a chaperone! :)
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Crookshanks is protective of his mistress :D
LOL at Crookshanks and, of course, Severus and Hermione having to sleep in the same room!
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Crookshanks is a very bright little fellow!
Love the parents, still. Good for them, throwing a chink in the plan for separate beds! Tee hee! If only these two knew how the other felt already! I'm looking forward to them discovering the truth.

They can't hold out forever :D

Poor Severus is not so poised when around Hermione
Response from snapefan2007 (Reviewer)
no he really isn't... i just wish it was me he was tripping over himself for... sigh...
I can tell that Helga is going to be one of my favorites! She is witty and profane, and she has got Severus' number! I hope she makes the journey to Russia with our happy couple. The events at Grimmauld Place were a little uncomfortable for Severus. He doesn't want Hermione to be put into a dangerous situation, and he knows things may well become dire before all is said and done.Hermione's whisky-induced imaginings of Severus giving her gentle kisses on her lips and "on more private parts of her person" made me laugh. And of course she wondered what all of us wonder: "She wondered what his nose would cause her body to do." Marvelous chapter!Beth

Wonderful chapter! The Helga part is brilliant, as is the invention of her portrait in the mirror. And it might be quite useful that she realised only too well about Severus...
I liked the Grimmauld Place scene very much, too. The way everybody reacted and behaved... very fitting, and how hard for Severus to take! Poor him.
The last part was truly entertaining. Hermione does have fantasies, doesn't she? *rofl*
Author's Response: Thanks! :D I like Helga, too!
indeed! loved helga-in-the-mirror! did you make up the mideval slang or get it from somewhere? great update! thanks so much
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
I tried to give Helga a mix of different slangs from her approximate birthdate until the mid-1700's when Lyons passed on. She speaks kind of awkwardly, but her portrait's supposed to be so old it's gone a bit abstract. Thanks for the review!
Having naughty thoughts and acting towards them, are we. Well, I can't really blame her. Were I in her place I would jumped on Sev and raped him the very first night...*grin*And I love Helga Hufflepuff. She's really funny and will undoubtedly give Severus a hard time, and Hermione very usefull advices.

They're quite the silly pair of clueless dorks!
Helga, now you know she's going stir things up between them two. I think Russia is going to be very exciting *winks*Look forward to more.

thanks!
Helga in the mirror, (made a hole in space and put the portrait in, how clever!) I love the original touches you have used to make this your own story, even through the MLC.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
thanks!
Absurdity indeed. Helga's got them figured out, doesn't she? I'm truly in love with that lady in the mirror! Can't wait for more! Oh, and Ron is a jerk. Yes, I know, jilted possible lover. But he's just being his typical jealous self. They are married, after all.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks!
I wonder if they will take Helga to Russia with them? And methinks that their relationship may be changing fairly soon...
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks for reviewing! :D
I'm really keen to see what they're going to learn in Russia. The talk with Helga was really good, too.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks for reviewing :D
Tea with whisky? Eww, Tesh! Good chapter though, despite the weird beverage! :p
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
My friend's family used to do that. I'm not a big drinker so if it's not fruity with an umbrella I have no idea.
How excellent! Lucius has to vomit spiders, and Severus' dad appears to be something other than an abusive bastard. Not only that he's an Animagius?? *Standing Ovation* Your originality is simply brilliant!
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Thanks! There wasn't any background when this story was started (before book 5) and it made it a lot easier to speculate on families and how magic worked :D
Nice story! I liked the line about Ron punishing Hermione for not suffering enough. He shouldn't begrudge her a few benefits in this awkward situation (which will soon turn into a blessing, I'm sure). At first I thought it was a surprise package from Sev for Hermione. But they probably need some more time.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
People usually hate Ron for acting like a teenager when his friends act like 40 year olds, but I like Ron. He just has a lot of growing up to do. Sev also has a lot of growing up to do, or rather, accepting who he was before he can accept who he is now. Lucky Hermione's a patient girl...
Well, that's a surprise. This should be a good conversation.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Poor Severus doesn't like surprises...
Severus's got a father (well stupid question, he was not born out of spirit) but a living, magical father?!!! That's a new developpement in the story that I'm more than eager to read.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
You'll see a lot more of the Snape family! :D
yike! an owl animagus! this gets better and better. thanks so much
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
Sev has a neat family :D
Well now, we get to meet Severus' father. I take it that his Animagus for is an owl? This will be interesting as the story goes on. How many more members of Severus' family are there?I hope one day that Ron will get over Hermione being married to Severus... he can't go on be upset all the time... can he? He's Ron, of course he can. 8^)Severus handled Lucius nicely when he made his catty remarks about Hermione still being a student. I don't think he'll be so quick to repeat that mistake again, at least not in front of them.
Nice chapter! Looking forward to the next update.

Severus has a rather large family...
Just like the boys to find out she has something special (in this case an extra Hogsmede trip) and to twist it into something to benefit themselves. You'd think Ron would be more than a little freaked at the idea of Snape, or for that matter Hermione, knowing a spell that would make the victim (him) spew forth spiders for a few hours. Nice twist at the end. Hope his father finding out they have seperate rooms won't be an issue... Looking forward to the next.
Response from teshara (Author of The Marriage Law)
I have them in a very Victorian setting, so having seperate bedrooms is fairly normal. Sharing a bedroom would be a pretty vulgar statement. Ron's so afraid of spiders he wants to pull that spell on Malfoy so bad! He's convinced it'll lead to running and screaming instead of annoyance.
