NEW:: Login Required for M(R) and MA(NC17) fics
In order to be in compliance with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) as well as other laws that protect our children from adult material on the Internet, I have incorporated a few changes over the past few days.
I have always thought of this site as aimed toward adults, never children, even though I do host fics of various ratings. My intention, in the writing of and hosting of the higher rated stories, has never been to appeal to or peak the interest of children. Therefore, the following changes have taken place:
* I have "locked down" M(R) and MA(17) rated stories so that one must be logged in to read them. If you click on a thusly rated story and are not logged in, you will be taken to the login page and then redirected back to the story you were trying to access.
* You still have the ability to leave anonymous reviews. However, you must be of age of majority to do so, and by leaving a review, you are legally certifying that you are. (See the Terms of Use.)
* New Registrants will notice that by registering you are also legally certifying that you are of age of majority in whatever state, province or country you are accessing the Internet from.
* I have added Meta Tags that will prevent The Petulant Poetess from coming up on a search when a parent uses child protection software.
* I have changed my front page, Disclaimer and Terms of Use to reflect my compliance with COPPA.
*Furthermore, I will be researching future ways I can ensure that The Petulant Poetess will remain adult only. This is not only to protect myself but the authors whose stories I am honored to display on this site.
Any comments or questions are welcome.

Story Updates
Hiya! Over the past couple of days, there have been numerous stories validated here, and a good bit of them are poems or drabbles. Please make certain that you utitlize the option to check all recent stories so you don't miss something. It's so easy to miss an update or new story when so many come up at once. Sorry about that, guys, but you should find them easy enough. If you scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll see the option of viewing more stories (recently posted to the site).
Enjoy.
Please review for authors! They'll love it and write more in return, as it's very encouraging.

Searching for Admins
The Petulant Poetess is searching for an admin or two to add to our staff. If you have adequate time to devote (about 6-8 hours per week; a little more during training), have a solid knowledge of grammar and punctuation, and believe you would have the flexibility to be able to follow the guidelines we set for admins to help preserve our reputation for being consistent, we invite you to apply.
Please follow the link below. There is a quick Q&A section and a short test, which will help us to see how you would admin a submission. We are not looking for perfection on this test; we are merely trying to assess how you would fit in with the rest of us and how much training you would need as a trainee admin. Please do not have anyone beta your test. It needs to be as honest as possible so we know where you stand.

NEW HP CATEGORY
PlaidPooka suggested that I needed a category dedicated to slash pairings and it sounded like an excellent idea. And so, please take note of the new category "Forbidden Forest" and check out the wonderful icon created for me by TarahFae, who continues to bring Harry Potter to life for me with her art.

Chaos on the Doorstep
I had no idea what to title this news item.
Yesterday, I found out that another site owner (known as "Hermione" from Whispers or ThePotionsMaster.net) was dragging the reputation of this site--as well as a number of other reputable sites--through the mud.
Very simply, the (new) owner of Whispers/ThePotionsMaster.net hijacked a number of stories from other archives and began posting them on his site without the authors' permission. He somehow got it into his head to "affiliate" himself with other archives by stating that "from time to time [he] will do batch imports from other archive sites to maintain a complete collection of Granger/Snape works." (quoted from the Terms of Service) Among the sites he listed that he would be working with were The Petulant Poetess, SycophantHex, The Restricted Section, AFF.net and OWL.
Needless to say, this caused a lot of outrage (most of it could be seen on WIKTT, but I think the entries may have been deleted by the mods). He has since posted a long message on the front page of his site apologizing for his lapse in judgment. (I will not be giving out the link to his page. If you don't know it, you're better off not even going there.) I don't know if this is going to repair anything, nor am I sure that he is a person to be trusted. I certainly don't appreciate someone trying to involve the good names of a number of sites in something so heinous. Honestly, what sort of person would steal stories from authors when the terms of use on these sites specifically state that it is against the rules? Regardless of the terms of use, the act itself shows bad character.
I just wanted to put the authors' minds at ease here on The Petulant Poetess. I was not, have never been, and never will be involved or affiliated with this person (who calls himself 'Hermione') on any site he owns or chooses to begin. Rest assured that while I cannot stop someone from copying or printing a story from the site, if anyone does so with the intention of posting it elsewhere or plagiarizing it, I will fight for your rights to the best of my ability.

Not Going to Portus Club
Well, there were a few of us, myself included, that weren't able to go to Portus in Dallas (see links page for their link if you're interested).
Feeling lonely and abandoned by my fellow admins *cough*, I retreated to Potter_Place where drabble madness ensued. The results are all posted in Recent Drabbles (there are still a couple who haven't posted), and all have the same title.
So if you're wondering how we pass the time while we're not at Portus, go read our "author insertion" stories!

Infinitus Envy
Con season is upon us once more... 7 days and counting! Soon our lucky friends will be making their way to the Sunshine State for Infinitus and Hogwarts! Not ones to be left out, we thought we'd have some fun of our own.
We have teamed up with the lovely ladies at the LJ community HPCon_Envy. They have some great things planned for next week, including a Virtual Drabble Booth! I cannot wait for that one. To find out more about the treats they have in store, check out these posts:
http://community.livejournal.com/hpcon_envy/166478.html#cutid1 and http://community.livejournal.com/hpcon_envy/166075.html
We are also going to be running TPP chat every evening during Infinitus, with plenty of drabbly games. All are welcome, whether to play games or just catch up with friends. LadyintheCloak has even agreed to provide picspam!
If you have any ideas for prompts, please don't keep them to yourself. Share them with the rest of us:
http://www.thepetulantpoetess.com/forums/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=734
(And in case the link doesn't work for you, go to the TPP Forum, then click on Petulant Poetess Challenges, and the post will show at the top. There seems to be a problem with the link.)
All authors joining in the Infinitus fun are welcome to post their results on TPP, and anything submitted to the queue under the con_envy category will be fast-tracked.
To keep things interesting, we're going to be playing some new games. There'll be more posts about those closer to Infinitus, but if there are any new games you'd like to play, please post them using the above link or reply to this post. We want to hear your ideas.
We can't promise a Victorian village or a magical castle, but we can promise good friends, games and minimal risk of heatstroke.
See you there!

Updated Stories
Hi, mates. NotSoSaintly has been on vacation for about a week now. Phoenix is out of town for a couple of days, so that just leaves Christy and me here to go through queue. We'll try to keep updating as normal, but if there happens to be a bit of a lag, now you know why.
(Party at Southern's.... hehe... Bring some whiskey)
