Feedback Needed
Greetings Community!!!
So it's been some time since we had a talk about how the site is running. 2021 kicked my rear end, but here I am trying to get back into the business of managing TPP and making it the BEST it can be.
Since I'm not actively reading fic presently (Thanks Grad School) I need to hear from all of you. Where are we at? What's wrong with the functionality of the site presently? What do you want to see moving forward.
I am just going to put it out there now, that I will be graduating with my MBA this Summer. I'm hoping that we can start looking at seriously re-opening the queue for new submissions in the fall. I know this is a thing that everyone wants to see happen and I do too, I just haven't had the headspace/emotional bandwidth to make this happen. If we're going to do it, I want to make sure I'm really ready for the undertaking.
Right now though, I'm curious as to how you feel about the user-friendliness of the site. Please let me know by sending an email to thepetulantpoetess@gmail.com!
Much Love

Paging through Fanfiction vs. Original
I wanted to draw your attention to something I am playing around with on the front page.
Today, I got frustrated because there were some original stories I wanted to read, but they had been pushed off the front page and I couldn't remember who wrote them. So, as I do when I get frustrated with something on my site, I changed it.
Play around with this and tell me if you like it, if it works all right for all of you, or if it doesn't work. Look at the bottom of the list of Recent Fanfiction and Recent Original Stories. You should be able to page backwards and then forwards while still remaining on the front page.
And now that I am able to find those stories I wanted to read, I will do so this weekend.

New Emotions
All Users: There are new emotions that you can choose now in the review and news comment area. Some are even animated. Go check it out!
EDIT: I have also added some Harry Potter emoticons on both the archive and the forum boards.
Opera Users: If you have downloaded the Preview of Opera 9, you won't be able to post reviews or comments. The preview is full of bugs yet. I would suggest browsing with IE or Firefox or reverting back to Opera 8.5 instead.
Firefox Users: This is my browser of choice. If it is yours, too, or if you have never tried Firefox, I greatly urge you to check out the latest version that came out a month or two ago. Firefox 1.5 is available for download here: Firefox 1.5
MAC Users: Firefox is the most stable browser to use when accessing The Petulant Poetess. Especially for authors, since Safari messes with the formatting when text is pasted into the story text area.

Happy New Year
Happy New Year to you from all of us at The Petulant Poetess!
We've had a great 2010 with many new stories, many new authors, and many stories completed during the year.
Our admins spent an average total of 150 man hours on the site every week, working the queue, making banners for featured stories, plotting new ideas, ensuring the smooth running, answering questions, and more! Our most prolific queue admin read an amazing 1,317,288 words in the queue! Well done, Lyn_F!
Our authors posted a total of 980 stories and updated 295. Our total now stands at 5,750!
1745 new submissions (drabbles, chapters, poetry, one-shots) were added to the queue, and validated authors added a whooping 1091.
899 stories were completed in 2010, and we now have a total of 4949 completed fics.
4131 members joined during last year, bringing our total membership to 27269.
Readers left 23146 reviews, and authors replied to 16885 of those. The total number of reviews is now 166204.
Our top ten reviewers for 2010 were sunny33, HBAR, braye27, snitchette, mimmon, blue_artemis, debjunk, pearl_city_princess, and kimjo2. Thank you, reviewers, for your feedback. Authors love reviews, and your continued support inspires many to write more.
Stay tuned for more exciting things to come in 2011, and in the meantime, don't forget there are now fewer than 48 hours to bid on (or offer) items and fic and foods and services before the Every Flavour Auction is history!
May your muses be kind to you, and may you find inspiration and delight in the stories to come!

Win Your Fanfic Custom Typeset and Bound - The January Fundraiser is Underway!
As a ‘Thank You’ to our TPP supporting members during the month of January, AmortentiaInMyVeins has offered to print and bind three fanfics of ANY fandom and give them away to three lucky TPP supporters chosen at random!* Each winner will receive one custom typeset and bound fanfic or original work of their choosing. AmortentiaInMyVeins designs and binds these beautiful hardbound books as a hobby, and in no way profits from their production. With the rollout of the new TPP site, there are many features that we have not yet been able to bring back simply due to lack of funds. AmortentiaInMyVeins is eager to see the site continue to improve, and has offered her craft (free of charge) in an effort to encourage you, our readers and authors, with an incentive to pitch in!
Not able to donate to the site at the moment? No problem! There are a total of three ways you can enter to win, and there is no purchase necessary. Here they are:
1. Comment on the post about this contest on TPP’s Facebook Page and tag a friend who also loves fan fiction (any fandom) to receive one (1) free entry!
2. Donate any amount to The Petulant Poetess’ Paypal account. This is so appreciated, and is vital if we want to make further improvements to the site (and we do!). Any donation amount receives one entry. For every $10 donated, you will receive an additional entry. So, any donation $10 or less is one (1) entry. A $20 donation is two (2) entries. A $30 donation is three (3) entries, and so on.
3. Are you an artist? For one entry, donate a digital copy of your fanart with blanket permission for its use by TPP or to be used as an illustration in one of AmortentiaInMyVeins’ printed books (for personal use only). Email art entries to thepetulantpoetess@gmail.com with permission for use. You may submit as many pieces of art as you’d like, but will receive a maximum of three (3) entries for art submissions. One piece of art = one (1) entry. Three pieces of art = three (3) entries. Four or more pieces of art = three (3) entries.
Multiple entries are allowed. That means if you donate to our Paypal, donate your art, AND post on our Facebook page and tag a friend, you can really stack up those entries!
TPP has no ads nor do we charge anything for the use of the site, which means we rely completely on volunteers and our users’ generosity to keep the site running and to add new content and features. 100% of donations to TPP are always used directly for costs associated with the maintenance of the site. All admin are unpaid volunteers.
Winners will be drawn using a spreadsheet of entries and a Random Number Generator on February 1, 2021, and will be posted on the Petulant Poetess Facebook page by noon MST the same day. AmortentiaInMyVeins will contact winners to collect stories, author permission, artist permission (if applicable), aesthetic choices, and shipping addresses. Shipping is included to anywhere in the world.
*AmortentiaInMyVeins does have strict requirements for the stories she prints. First, you must either be the author of the story, or you must receive written permission by the original author. This is non-negotiable! The only exception to this rule is if you are gifting the book to the original author as a surprise. Additionally, word count must fall between 20k and 120k words. Collections of short stories by the same author is also fine, as long as it does not exceed the max 120k word count. Longer stories may be split into two or more separately bound books at the binder’s discretion. Winners may choose the aesthetic of the binding materials to include cover and endpage materials from the selection of materials currently owned by the binder, or may make arrangements for the winner to purchase custom binding materials at the binder’s discretion. There are no limitations on fandoms, pairings, or story ratings. AmortentiaInMyVeins will receive no compensation for the books she prints, and will also cover any shipping costs.
