Submission Rules

All authors note:

The submission rules have been tweaked. I especially want to draw your attention to the section regarding 'The Three Letters' that an author might receive after submitting a story or chapter.

1. Acceptance: The story is able to be posted directly upon review with a maximum of five(5) typographical and/or five(5) punctuational errors having been corrected by the admin.
   
   


2. Pending: The story had more than five(5) but less than forty(40) errors and is put in the 'pending' area until the author has made the requested changes. (The story is effectively out of queue at this point, and this is reflected in the validation status area of your account.)
   
   


3. Rejection: The story had more than forty(40) errors. The story will be deleted until the author works with a beta to resolve the errors and is able to resubmit it. A copy of the forty errors found will be sent along with the rejection letter so the author has some idea why we had to reject the story/chapter.

Please note that a recurring error (such as the consistent misspelling of a word) will count as one, and each puntuational error counts as one regardless. The rule on rejection has not changed significantly. However, considering the number of submissions we have had recently, we will be adhering to the rules and not be able to make any exceptions.

If you are a beta who has some time available to offer, I encourage you to visit the forum boards and make a post in the beta services area.

If you are an author who needs a beta, please have a look on the foum boards to see if anyone can help you. Posting on Yahoo groups is a wonderful way to find a beta, as is having a look at what certain beta service sites have to offer.

AOL users please note:

There seems to be an ongoing--yet occasional--problem with AOL users receiving e-mail generated by the site.  Note that I said 'occasional' as it is not happening all the time.

Currently, I have four 'failure notices' bounced back from AOL sitting in my headmistress' inbox, which I will forward to the members after I finish writing this.  AOL's spamassasin is kicking back a few e-mail notifications, and there is not much I can do about it since it is not a block on my domain, and it doesn't happen all the time.

My suggestion:  AOL users, if you have a Hotmail, Yahoo, or another account that you check frequently, you may want to  change your e-mail address on the site.  Remember, especially if you are an author who is currently uploading stories, it should be an account you check frequently because we will need to get in touch with you regarding your submissions. If you use YIM or MSN Messenger, both notify you of new e-mail in your inbox, which is quite convenient. 

Of course, if you don't mind missing a few updated story notifications or notices of a review or two, there is no need to change.  I am not asking anyone to change their e-mail address; I just thought you should be aware of AOL's tendency to shoot down random e-mails from the site. 

New Author Option

Attention All Authors:

Starting immediately, I am offering the option to authors of whether or not to allow an admin to make corrections to your story.

As per our Submission Rules, since this site's inception, if an author has less than five (5) punctuation errors and / or five (5) grammatical/spelling errors, the admin will make the corrections in order to make the story post quicker. The author is then informed of the corrections that were made.

However, I know this doesn't appeal to everyone. So tonight I installed an option on the Add Story and Add Chapter page for you to "opt-out" of this rule. Some authors do not like others to touch their stories, and as an author, I can respect that.

Please note: This must be done on every submission, and it is in bright red so you can't miss it. The admins will also have a bright red note in the admin area, so the admin will not be able to miss it either.

Also, as notice to authors who are not validated. We impose a two-story/chapter limit in the queue at one time. Even though notices were posted, I am aware that when you see something all the time, it is easy to glance it over and not really pay attention. Therefore, if two submissions are in the queue, it will now be impossible to upload another until one has either been validated or deleted. And, if any of you were trying to upload stories in the last hour, please double-check to see if they "took." While I was making these changes, the story upload feature was temporarily down. Thank you.

The Intergalactic Quidditch Challenge

The second and final round of the IQC is now complete, and congratulations go to Saturn for winning with 960 points!

Thanks to all who played, be it as participants, cheerleaders, reviewers, and readers. It's been great fun, and we plan to come up with a new challenge in the near future!

January 2009 Site Stats!

We're off to another great year here at The Petulant Poetess. Let's hope this year can be as good as the last if not better!
