Late one night, someone calls to Hermione from an empty, black canvas. What she learns changes the situation quite a bit. A darker and sexier spin of the events in DH.

26 years old, avid HP fan, live in a pretty rainy country. My favourite writer is George Orwell, which should be taken as a warning by anyone looking for pink fluff. I do not like pink fluff.
I used to be a hard core SS/HG shipper. Then came Dracontia and completely blew my mind with her HP/DM stories. And once I started reading slash, there was just no going back. I still enjoy a well-written SS/HG (or any pairing, really), but the current passion is pretty boy-on-boy action. :-) Any pairing, more or less, I'm not that picky (except for SS/HP, that really creeps me out for some reason.)
I'm also an avid Bandom fan (P!atD). Those fics can be found on my LJ if you want to explore the waters outside the HP realm one day.
2008-12-08: Today, I abandoned hope of finishing my SS/HG WIPs "Shades of Grey" and "Les innocents." I'm very sad about letting go, but I feel it was the right thing to do. (More details in the A/Ns of each story if you're interested).

Oh, that is very uncomfortable. And Hermione is just going to get herself in a WORLD of trouble if she keeps doing that with Harry.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
She certainly is. Not a good place to go for either of them. Things will clear themselves up quite a bit in the next chapter, though, so stay tuned. Thanks for reviewing!

Poor Severus... Hermione's going to be in for such a lecture next time they talk! Unless he's too embarrassed to let her know he heard everything and liked it a little too much. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

I love your emocons. Especially the angry Snape ones. Hilarious! Yes, Snape is not happy. More on that coming up. :-)

Fabulous, what a compelling story. I love it so far!

Oh dear, she even has to tutor Harry That!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
LOL! Well, yes. Most seventeen-year-old guys with no experience lack that instinctual inner map of how to best please a girl. :-D But yes, the situation with the two of them is quite ironic, isn't it? Thanks for reviewing!

So, is Severus upset that she is letting hormonal distractions happen, or is he upset because it is a Potter getting the girl again? In my mind, Harry was a more likely candidate to get Hermione than Ron for the plain flat out fact that she would like that he left them.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I think Severus is mostly upset that there is someone in his life that is affecting him and that he has no control of. He's responding to Hermione, and he really doesn't want to be--especially with Harry in the picture. And yes, Ron/Hermione was just silly, for many reasons. But more on the trio in the next chapter, as well as some more of Snape.

I love the way that hope and bitterness play together in this chapter. Well done!

Thank you so much! I liked playing with POV in this one, and I wanted to do something different. Glad you liked it.

Love the parody. How fun! You are a very poetic writer.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! Yes, that was loads of fun to write. Poetic, eh? Wow, I'm all puffed up and proud now. Thank you!

An enjoyable read. I love the Potter Map!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! The Potter map is one of my favourite inventions. Just so practical to have on hand. Thank you for reading and reviewing. More is in the queue.
OMG!! LOL. It's a good thing you said it was a parody in your A/N... otherwise it would have been a true WTF moment. You know, it kinda was anyways... in a good way of course! Looking forward to more wtfs.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
LOL! Thank you! Yes, I had a lot of fun with that. Snape's pretty much doing a voice-over for me in that scene. :-)
Doh... that too-strong spell is having some seriously long-term results. Unpleasant results.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, it really is, isn't it? Unpleasant for pretty much everyone involved, I would say. I feel pretty terrible for Ron, myself. :-)
Response from CharmedForce (Reviewer)
I don't. He left. People may excuse it as the result of the Horcrux, but obviously his friendship and love for Harry and Hermione weren't true enough to sustain the Horcrux's influence. He chose to leave, and expected to be welcomed back (and was in the book) like there was nothing wrong with him abandoning them like that. He needs to pay penance. Ron obviously didn't take into consideration how his behavior affected Hermione if he thought she would still welcome him with open arms. *thinks it is obvious I don't like Ron*
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
*smiles* Very true. Commentary on that coming up in chapter... eight, I think it is. He will suffer. Not to worry. :-)
i have easily become deeply addicted to this. it is truly fantastic i cant wait for the next chapter
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! I'm really glad to hear that. More is in the queue.
sounds like more than a little magic going on at that spring.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, you could definitely say that. :-) Thanks for reading!
Definitely an interesting take on the whole thing.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it. More to come...
Oh - so sad... Great chapter! It will be very interesting to see what happens when and if Hermione and Harry face Ron again.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! Yes, it certainly will. I believe 'interesting' might be too weak a word though. Dum dum dum...
Wow. That was an interesting plot change on Deathly Hallows. I adored your descriptions of the illusions of life, it really struck me. I can't wait until the next update.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! I absolutely hated DH, so I have no qualms about twisting the story as I see fit. :-) More very soon.
I can't believe I didn't catch it the on first read...She's The Lady of the Lake!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
She is indeed. I just couldn't resist. Some of Rowling's scenes really parodise themselves. :-)
Well, I hopped over here from ASH, I needed more... I am excited to see Snape's reaction. I really like how you put that Snape studies people from afar--I think that is very accurate--I can really see him doing that.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Ooooooh! Hermione gets to play Lady of the Lake. Much more impressive setting than an iced over little pond. Too funny that Hermione doesn't even know where she is because she used her parents old photo for a location! Now why do I think that Snape really wasn't expecting that kiss? Now that Harry has the sword, doe this mean we won't be needing Ron to come back? Well, a girl can hope, right?
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
She does indeed. I must admit that I had lots of fun with that one. Some scenes from DH almost parodise themselves :-)Nope, Snape definitely did not expect that. But as for Ron, I think you want him to come back. In this story I really think you do... :-)
Response from MoreThanSirius (Reviewer)
Well, if you insist, Ron can come back. After all, it is your story. Can we bash him a little bit for leaving in the first place? Pretty please? The least he could do is get his freckled arse back there and break up that kiss...
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
You know, I'm usually all for Ron-bashing, which I'm slightly embarrassed about. (I feel sorry for the character, what can I say? Hollywood has not been nice to him. :-)) I have him cast as something other than the villain in this story, though, which you will get to see soon enough. Today maybe even if the next chapter goes through the queue as planned... Stay tuned. :-)
Ok, Harry kissed her... hmmm... methinks a certain Potions Master is going to be VERY taken aback by it! Especially now that he 'knows' Hermione! Oh yummy, delicious angst ahead! Great chapter!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, chances are he won't be overly pleased. :-) Thanks for the review!
Yaaayaaaayaaaaay! Just what I logged on to find! Great chapter, though one must wonder, now that Snape has seen her in her scanties, might he be watching the current goings-on and feeling jealous? Here's to hoping! ~HR
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Glad you liked it. :-) Yes, I think he might have a hard time to let that one slip by without affecting him. More soon...
LOL I think Snape got more than he bargained for when he created that enchantment! :)
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, I think so too. :-) And more to come...
Love the imagery! Somehow, I don't think Severus intended for that kiss to take place... Does that mean Ron didn't(/isn't going to) come back? Looking forward to the next!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! That makes me really happy to hear.As for your other questions: no, he definitely didn't, and you'll see very soon.Next chapter's in the queue.
Dunno, naked teenagers in a hot spring seems likely to lead to kissing, if only as stress releif. Snape's internal monologue about seeing a naked ex-student - lovely!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Exactly! Especially with the enchantments Snape threw in there. :-) Glad you liked. Thanks for reviewing!
Hmmm. That was a bit unexpected! :-D I loved the setting a lot, and the bit with Hermione pouring out her heart and troubles to Snape without even realising it was quite wonderful.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked it.I liked writing that scene. It's nice to write that kind of accidental closeness, I find. Thank you for reviewing!
This was really good, and I'm really curious as to where this is going with Snape and Hermione and Harry....hmm... Good job!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you very much. Keep reading, I'd say. Things are not always the way they seem. :-)
