Late one night, someone calls to Hermione from an empty, black canvas. What she learns changes the situation quite a bit. A darker and sexier spin of the events in DH.

26 years old, avid HP fan, live in a pretty rainy country. My favourite writer is George Orwell, which should be taken as a warning by anyone looking for pink fluff. I do not like pink fluff.
I used to be a hard core SS/HG shipper. Then came Dracontia and completely blew my mind with her HP/DM stories. And once I started reading slash, there was just no going back. I still enjoy a well-written SS/HG (or any pairing, really), but the current passion is pretty boy-on-boy action. :-) Any pairing, more or less, I'm not that picky (except for SS/HP, that really creeps me out for some reason.)
I'm also an avid Bandom fan (P!atD). Those fics can be found on my LJ if you want to explore the waters outside the HP realm one day.
2008-12-08: Today, I abandoned hope of finishing my SS/HG WIPs "Shades of Grey" and "Les innocents." I'm very sad about letting go, but I feel it was the right thing to do. (More details in the A/Ns of each story if you're interested).

AAAArrrgggh! To be in Bellatrix's memories... what a horrible project. Eeeewww. Wonderful writing.

Thank you! Yes, I completely agree. It's like something black coming up and jumping you, that part. Or at least so I felt writing it. :-)

OH. MY. GOD!I am breathless! Wonderful twist! I could feel Harry's emotions as if they were my own. Your description of their first kiss is, wow. I mean, really wow. Great chapter!

Thank you so much! 'Wow' is a good word indeed. :-)

Phineas should be threatened with some turpentine. Awful portrait! Hermione only needed some words of reassurance... ah, well, this wouldn't be the same without some angst! Great chapter.

Thank you very much. Phineas can be a bit of a bastard at times, can he not? Love writing him, so much fun.

Neat. A very gripping beginning.

Thank you very much. Beginnings are always hard, I find. I'm glad you like it.

Excuse me, but wouldn't killing a Horcrux in the cottage, what with the "piercing scream" that "tore through the air" sort of bring everyone running? Sorry my "suspend disbelief" muscles sort of failed me there for a minute. It's been a long day in the cubicle. Never mind. Forget I said that. I did not say that! On with the adventure and .. well, you know, all that other stuff. *sigh!**takes foot out of mouth to exchange feet*
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Well, only Bill and Fleur are there at the moment. The rest of the Weasleys went back home. And Bill, tactful creature that he is, decided not to barge in.Sorry if that was unclear. Or, you know, hastilly constructed and thrown in there this minute in true filling-plot-holes manner. :-DThanks for reviewing!

Is it possible to rough up a portrait? I ask because Phineas needs to be rapped up side the head! All Hermione wanted was a word or two. It's quite telling that she needs reassurance from Snape. It's cruel of Phineas to deny her even a word. Hermione did some excellent thinking on her feet about the muggle bank. It figures that the boys would accept it without question. They are all about the end result. Poor Hermione badly needs someone to talk to right now, but she's forced to lie to everyone except Snape. And there's an annoying portrait limiting her access to him.

Yes, Phineas is being quite the bastard in this chapter, isn't he? Don't know if you can rough up a portrait, you're very welcome to try. :-)Thanks for rviewing!

I really want to throw some turpentine at Phineas. I'm glad Hermione went back to them, but those boys seem a bit selfish to me. Ah, well, they are teenagers. Anyway, I really like this.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! That's exactly the point I'm trying to make--they're teenagers. Teenagers under great emotional stress at that. Glad you like.

Very good, I wonder what he really makes of her need for him?
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I think he chooses not to think about it. :-)

Very interesting. Thank god for gullible boys, eh? She seems to be daling with her new understanding of darkness pretty well, but her lack of emotion in other areas could be a worry.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you. I think Hermione is still in a state of shock. She needs time to process. Thanks for reviewing!

Woo, caught up again! Enjoyed the last several chapters a lot - I hadn't expected the Harry/Ron angle but it makes a lot of sense. Hermione's time away was fascinating, especially the way she had to "become" Bellatrix, but I can only imagine how hard all of this has been for her, especially with no one around to confide in.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it and that it made sense. I love writing the Harry/Ron story line. My first slash fic. :-)

I wonder what he said... and if Hermione realizes how telling it is that she needed a word from Snape. After all, he is the only one who truly understands what is going on with her. She can't be honest with anyone at this point, and that is certainly something that he understands.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you. That was exactly the reaction I was hoping for in this chapter. I like the compare/contrast with H/R, it's nother kind of need but still so much the same.

Oh, my.I'm not really clear what Bellatrix was doing, but I know that it was pretty nasty! heheheheh...I liked the end how she felt his touch change...

No fair you faded to black before showing us all the good parts! Sorry the porn lover in me broke through for a second there. I like the way Hermione dealt with Bella's mind. It was quite squckiy.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! I'm afraid all the goody pr0n is going to be saved for the central lovestory in this one. But there will be more little moments for Hermione and Snape as well. Stay tuned... :-)

Wow! Having to be view Bellatrix's memories was bad enough for Hermione. Actually having to be her for that length of time is more frightening than I care to think about. She managed to make it out alive, but I can't help but wonder about the emotional impact of all that.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, pretty powerful. I'm so glad you liked it. Thank you so much.

And Thank you for such a wonderful update! I can't wait to read more. I love how you've written bella's memories and how Hermione practically becomes Bella to impersonate her. Beautifull.

“Before you run off to kill someone, Miss Granger,” he said matter-of-factly, “I have a small project where I believe you could be of use.”
Pure, unadulterated Snape.
“Headmaster, I’ve been unable to contact the girl. I believe she’s—” Phineas Nigellus broke off, taking a closer look at the pair that had just Apparated into the room. “—standing half-naked in your bedchamber. How vastly inappropriate.”Have I told you lately how much I adore your Phineas? He's snide and gloriously Slytherin. What an amazing idea that Hermione would need Bellatrix's memories to get past the goblins. Surviving the insanity is another matter, entirely. I think I would prefer to stay as far away from Bellatrix and her memories as possible.

Well, I think he got what he wanted at Hermione's expense. That poor girl. Yes, I know he isn't happy with himself, but still.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, poor Hermione. I feel quite sorry for her in this story. Thanks for reading!

Great chapter. I'm glad we didn't have to see the details of what she had to do. It worked well.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, I don't think I could have written that. Also, this way, it's open for interpretation. Those who want it gory can have that, those who want mental pain can have that. Those who want kinky hot BDSM can have that, etc. ;-) Thanks for reviewing! Glad you liked it.

He seemed to know that she would need to be comforted and experience pleasure in her own body rather than only in Bellatrix's body. A very interesting and dark chapter.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, I think Snape understands her reactions to darkness very well, and what he can do to influence them. Thanks for reviewing!

Now that was pretty intense. I loved Hermione's reaction to being Bella. Of course, repeated exposure to such darkness will desensitise her to it, and once desensitised it's just a short jump to becoming fascinated by it, and from there, well... that's where strength of morals comes in.Great chapter. Loved it!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you! I loved writing Hermione as Bellatrix. It's a fascinating concept to explore for sure.

At times this have been a little confusing to keep up with. But it's enjoyable and different. I really love the line, "Insanity awaits." Very Snape.

Well Snape’s map has added features that Harry’s does not. I hope green means “I am feeling horribly guilty because I did a bad bad thing”
