Late one night, someone calls to Hermione from an empty, black canvas. What she learns changes the situation quite a bit. A darker and sexier spin of the events in DH.

26 years old, avid HP fan, live in a pretty rainy country. My favourite writer is George Orwell, which should be taken as a warning by anyone looking for pink fluff. I do not like pink fluff.
I used to be a hard core SS/HG shipper. Then came Dracontia and completely blew my mind with her HP/DM stories. And once I started reading slash, there was just no going back. I still enjoy a well-written SS/HG (or any pairing, really), but the current passion is pretty boy-on-boy action. :-) Any pairing, more or less, I'm not that picky (except for SS/HP, that really creeps me out for some reason.)
I'm also an avid Bandom fan (P!atD). Those fics can be found on my LJ if you want to explore the waters outside the HP realm one day.
2008-12-08: Today, I abandoned hope of finishing my SS/HG WIPs "Shades of Grey" and "Les innocents." I'm very sad about letting go, but I feel it was the right thing to do. (More details in the A/Ns of each story if you're interested).

Oh the imagery of Bellatrix mind is - well, she's sick! it 's well doen, well written - but Yuck. I'd be nauseous too!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Yes, it's definitely not pretty in there, especially not for someone so innocent as Hermione. Thanks for reviewing!

Ron and Harry? I didn't see that one coming! and Dobby - yeah! he lived ! But who grabbe donto Hermione's arm?
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Well, go back and read chapter 3 again and it will hopefully be a lot clearer... :-)Yes, I couldn't kill off Dobby. I always liked him. And without the whole torture-in-the-malfoy's-living-room-bit, it didn't feel necessary.

Oh, such a delicious twist, Severus was totally cought up in the moment too! Poor hermione, she's getting all confused and used, but at least Harry is trying a little bit.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I think their using each other. Harry is also getting used in a way, though because he's a seventeen-year-old boy it's less obvious. And yes, poor Severus. :-D

Oh I loved the imagery. and You actually made me feel sorry for Ron. But any friend who'd ditch out on his mates deserves heart break... But still. At least he destroyed the locket. And Snape, he does care - he jsut won't allow it's existance, won't he? Too bad. Poor Hermione, used and then realizing what is real, cries, waht a thjing to go through...

Thank you so much! This was exactly the kind of reaction and reading I was hoping for. This chapter breaks my heart on so many levels, and I love writing the characters like this, all complicated and screwed up. :-)

Dude, you have left some whopping unaswered questions here. I hope you get the net one up soon, this is getting tense.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I know. :-) It will all come together in the next one though. And there I'll finally get to take a stab at JKR regarding the mess that is the Elder Wand. :-) Should be up soon. Thanks for reviewing!

Wow, that one made me cry. I can't wait to see how you manage the whole Voldie scene.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Really? That makes me so happy to hear (or you know, not happy, happy--proud happy :-)) Next chapter's in the queue and should be up soon. Thanks for reviewing!

I'm really enjoying hwo you are able to stick so close to canon but still inject your own plot into the story. Well done!(And my heart breaks for Severus all over again!)
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you, thank you. Major tweaking coming up in the next chapter. I just had to fix the Elder Wand. :-)

Amazingly enough I found the goodbye between Harry and Ron to be more sad than Hermione and Snape. Why is that? Maybe because I think CPR might just be the trick? Ron's desperation was a tangible thing. The DEs are toast. IMPERIO: post chapter 13 immediately
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
*swoons from happiness* Thank you so much! That was exactly what I was going for with this chapter. I find the Harry/Ron goodbye heartbreaking because they are the "lovestory" in this fic. Theirs is the deep, unquestionable love--Hermione and Snape... not so much. :-)*going off to post ch 13* :-)

Wow. i was only going to read 3 chapters before going to bed, but i was hooked. I love this so far and can't wait to read what happens next. I hope this review aids in getting the next chapter up all the more quickly! Great job so far RedOrchid.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. Being able to hook people is the best praise. Next chapter is currently no 8 in the queue, so within a day or two hopefully.

When I read that Nagini was dead, I actually feared more for Severus than at the prospect of him facing a giant snake (figured he'd be smart enough to have antivenin, no matter what JKR had to say about it). But Voldie just pulled one of the classic bad guy moves: leaving the scene after dealing a 'killing blow' to hero, but without waiting to actually see the hero die. (Of course, this works just as well in reverse for when the 'good guy' has an archnemesis that needs to come back repeatedly to give the hero some more work to do...but I digress.) Just hope the trio saw enough of Severus and Voldemort's interaction (the “Traitor!” and attack part specifically) so they'll let Hermione heal him rather than fighting her over it...
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
You know, I did too. When I sat down to write it, I was all "Wait a minute, how the hell can I get Voldie to NOT use AK on Snape now that I've both taken away Nagini and changed the properties of the Elder Wand." I always knew I wanted Snape to bleed out on the floor. It's so gruesome and yet poetic (and one of the few things that you can actually save someone from, death-wise) so I thought for a pretty long time on how to actually make it plausible. (AK is the standard killing blow after all)I'm glad it worked. The trio's reactions are in the next chapter. Stay tuned. :-) And thanks for such an awesome review!

Just remind me what you look like again...Black etheral robes, Red eyes and slits for nostrils? What an evil chapter ending! *Shakes head* Content was good, but too brief. Please update really soon. This review is my two knuts worth so hopefully that will contribute to the ransom and free the next chapter.Cheers.P.S. Any extra credit for emoticons?
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Extra credit for emocons? Oh, most definitely. The next chapter is in the queue. Glad you're still liking the story. And no black robes for me, it's so unflattering with the spiked tail and the cloven hoofs. Red cloaks, no that's the new rage for this year. :-D

You are an evil person, aren't you? A cliffie like that?I have really enjoyed your story so far as it seamlessly entwines Hermione's and Severus' stories and points of views, as well as keeping to JK Rowling's DH, with some interesting tweaks.
Bravo!
Now can you pleeease keep posting? I'm desperate.

Dude! You're evil! Still, at least Sev got a better death scene, got to rub old Voldy's nose in it before he croaked. Or has he croaked? Warm hands? I hope that's a sign of impending resurrection. :D Update please.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I'm glad you liked it. I was very mad at how nonchalantly he got killed off in canon. Is there hope? Well, I guess you'll see. More soon... :-)

I love that you let Severus show the Dark Lord his true feelings. One of my many gripes from DH are that Harry had to tell Voldemort that Snape was not his man. It's much better to have Snape show him himself. Major cliffie no doubt, but I see the next chapter is in queue. :) Very good chapter!
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
I totally agree. I was majorly pissed at how JKR brushed over Snape's death in canon. Retribution writing, we-hey! :-)Anyway. Glad you liked. Thanks for the review!

Wow! I appreciate that the chapter flowed quickly. You skimmed over the parts that we already knew and took us to your own plot points. I can't wait to read the rest.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you. Yes, I jumped most of the canon stuff. Mainly because I find most of DH insanely stupid. :-)Glad you liked the chapter. More's in the queue.

How dare you! I will personally see you to Azkaban for the cold-blooded violation of innocent chapters! (By the way-thank you for releasing this brilliant specimen).

You are very evil, you know that , don't you? Clever to have Snape cut across the neck even without Nagini.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you. Yes, I admit that I was a bit at loss there for a while, having killed off Nagini, changed the lore behind the Elder Wand and still wanting to avoid the most logical method of killing, which would have been the AK. As for being evil, I'll post the next chapter to the queue today. Better? :-)

Argh. Poor Hermione. There will be scars on her mind forever.I like the fact that she could sense the difference in his touch, though.
Response from RedOrchid (Author of Conversations Through an Empty Frame)
Thank you. Yes, I'm glad she at least had someone to help her process all of that.
