It was only after Snape followed her into the neglected shop, moving furtively between the shafts of sunlight that pierced the gloom, that it occurred to him to wonder why, ten years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione Granger was running. And why, in a world with magic, real magic, she should be seeking the counsel of a Muggle Tarot reader.

Reviews for King of Swords
And she... she was melting into the sticky tar of memory, buried in a swamp of emotion whose shores were too eroded to contain it. This is such clear, evocative imagery!Oh, like harks to like - and touching her made the darkness recede for the first time in living memory. This is so beautifully written - I feel the tendrils of that which is drawing them together wrapping around me, now ...More, please?

, my dear. I love the image of those tendrils wrapping around you, drawing you in to their story. :)There will be more. First, though, I must write my SSHG exchange story. *glares story into submission so that I can return to writing King of Swords...

I'm shocked. This is heart-wrenching. I don't even know what to say really but I shall try to come across with some sort of point. This was really well written. Your use of imagery is parallel to none, your words are like visions. This is haunting, almost as if they truly are ghosts, or living some sort of half-life. You've done an amazing job of making this intriguing and suspensful as well as incredibly unique. When I say there are no words... I mean to say.. that there are too many words. You're creating a masterpiece and I want more...

Ooh, I'm thrilled and overwhelmed with your review. Thank you so very much. I'm delighted that the imagery and emotion is coming through so powerfully. I appreciate your thoughtful comments -- hearing what strikes you most strongly, and what moves you is so wonderful for me to hear. I appreciate it more than I can say. *hugsThere will be more, never fear. But I have to write my SSHG exchange story first, then I shall return to King of Swords.

In his arms she finds some release, comfort, nice. Looking forward to learning what happened in the chamber of secrets.

Thank you, beaweasley :) There was some real relief for both of them there... All will emerge, but organically, as they start to work together to try to figure this out. More story will come, after the exchange fic is turned in!

Wonderful! I am more impressed with each chapter. You began so mysteriously, and now the questions are being answered, but not all of them! This has a very different feel to it than most fanficiton, and an original plot, Surprisingly, it was my prompt, although I never could have imagined such a dark-seeming fic.Dark isn't the right work, exactly. Especially now when Hermione and Snape have joined forces, it is so much more hopeful. There was an aura of lost hope, and now it is returning. This is very good!

! Especially since this was your prompt, I'm thrilled that you're enjoying what I'm doing with the concept. Hearing that the feel of the writing and plot feels unique makes me so happy, too. It's intersting to hear you wrestle with the "dark" elements of the story -- differentiating between darkfic, and pain for the characters. I definitely don't see this as darkfic, so you can expect an intense, but ultimately meaningful and hopeful ride. :) Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments.More will be on its way, but likely not until the exchange fic is turned in. :)

That's good enough for completion, but I ask anyway: Is there more?
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Oh, thank you! Yes, there is more -- in fact, this is looking to be a longish story. More will be on its way, but probably after the exchange story is turned in. Thank you for reviewing, I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

I am so happy you updated, I really like this story! I migth be on a wild goose chase, but it seems to me that some of what migth help those inflicted by Voldemorts Horcruxes are support of others? I won't call it love, it is way to early for Hermione and Severus to be in love, but support and trust? Either way, warm feelings that Voldemort have no regards for? Then again, shouldn't Harry and Ginny have been able to help eachother? I must say I look forward to see how you solv this:-))

! I'm so glad you're enjoying this, and getting involved in the issues and emotions of the characters. As it becomes clearer to Hermione and Severus just exactly what it was that the Horcrux exposure did to them, a lot of the events that transpired since the final battle will make more sense...More will be on its way, but probably after the exchange story is turned in...

this story is just mesmerizing, and your writing, dear mystery author, is absolutely gorgeous. so many beautiful and haunting images in this chapter, too many to single just one out. and my computer is being temperamental, so i'm typing fast to get this review in before it has another hissy fit. suffice to say, i am absolutely riveted and eagerly await your next chapter!

*hugs youThank you for your kind words and for taking the time to review -- especially with a computer that is having a temper tantrum! It makes me so happy to hear not only that you're enjoying the story, but that you are captured by the style. More will come, but most likely after the exchange fic is turned in. This is likely to be a long story, I hope you enjoy it as it unfolds.

Neat! I wonder how the fortune-teller can help them, or if. That's a lot of people affected. Would Lucius be affected, since he had the diary, at one point? Or how about the old woman who had the cup? (or was that a fanfic, argh! I read to much!)
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ahh, excellent questions. I know what you mean about blurring fanon and canon, though. Here's how I'm thinking about the Horcrux exposure -- 'casual' exposure is not so much the problem. It is those who had more prolonged, direct, and intrusive contact with the Horcruxes who are suffering. Many others who also may have are, as Hermione noted, already dead... It's the fate of these survivors that concerns us now. Especially the fates of our beloved main characters. How the fortune-teller and tarot cards/readings play into this will become more clear as the story unfolds. I hope that you stick around for the ride! Thanks so much for reviewing.

I'll admit to being a bit lost in part of this, but then after he made his appearance it got a bit clearer. I'm looking forward to more of this intriguing tale.

Horcrux poisoning, sounds analagous to radiation sickness. Delayed effects varying from person to person, and inevitably fatal.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ahh, I can see how it would sound similar. Don't forget, though, this is magical and both more contained and more specific in its poison. The effects haven't exactly been delayed, more that they've been gradually cumulative and their effects showing up more strongly with time... Thank you for your comments -- I enjoy hearing what the chapter evokes. I hope that you enjoyed the chapter and will enjoy future ones :)
