It was only after Snape followed her into the neglected shop, moving furtively between the shafts of sunlight that pierced the gloom, that it occurred to him to wonder why, ten years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione Granger was running. And why, in a world with magic, real magic, she should be seeking the counsel of a Muggle Tarot reader.

Reviews for King of Swords
I am really enjoying this story and I am really glad you updated!
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thanks so much! We're up to Chapter 12 (in the queue)... glad you're enjoying!
I just found this story a couple of days ago and I must tell you that your writing is mesmerising. I find my gut wrenching and my pulse quickening as I read, as if I am living the torture that you describe them going through.Their need for each other is complete and unconditional. I'm sure their love for each other will follow, and the scene on the bed of heather will manifest from the ether of their minds' eyes into the real world eventually. Beautifully written. Well done. I anxiously await the next chapter.

*blushes Thank you for your thoughtful review -- and I'm beyond words at your praise for my writing. I'm delighted that you're enjoying how the story is unfolding (and hope you've seen the new chapters!) Oh, there is so much more to come here... glad you're here for the ride!
the dark has bled into her magic, perhaps? his, too? great update. thanks so much
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ahhh... keep thinking along those lines. glad you're enjoying! Thanks for reviewing!
I absolutely love how you have woven this story together from cannon. Brilliant characterizations! I can not wait to read more.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you so much! More is coming soon!
Hmm, that's... odd! But the fact that they help each other by being near one another is wonderful. I'm sure it's a relief to feel even a little better.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
It is a relief! They are confused, too. :)
another stellar chapter. it is fascinating to see the similarities between the effect on the two of them, but also the slight differences, and also to see the symptoms related to their magical effectiveness. i am enjoying the fact that, because of their situation, there is all this lovely physical affection and closeness that would normally take a much longer time to develop. for whatever reason, they are each other's best medicine. i also enjoyed the little touches of humor - hermione reflecting that she can't just take up permanent residency on his lap, for instance. all in all, a highly satisfactory chapter that moves the story forward and leaves me wanting MORE! :D
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you, Kittylefish! The touch is really such a relief for them, and while they are confused by it, they don't turn it away because it's such a tremendous relief. I'm so glad you're enjoying this--the humour and the ebb and flow... thanks for the admin beta read, too :)
omgosh. What in the world is going on with the fluctuations in Hermione's magic? Does contact with Severus increase the intensity of her magic's focus or could it be allowing her to access magic she hasn't tapped into for such a long time that she can't rein it in fast enough to use safely? Ugh, more questions than answers.Fantastic chapter! Being able to tamp down on the dark magic while they touch is a great incentive to keep close, and I'm enjoying the tactile/empathic aspects of their relationship very much. Such a good read! :D
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
These are excellent questions... the more time they spend together, the more it unfolds, and the more they must figure out. They are a bit bemused by the need to be so physically close, but since they feel so much better when they touch, neither is complaining much :-p Thanks for reviewing!
I hope you come back to this soon. It's an intriguing plot and I would greatly enjoy reading more.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you! I haven't forgotten or abandoned it. It started talking to me again recently, so there's some hope that I'll be getting to it again very soon. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. My plan is to complete it.
I'm a bit late in catching up with this, but I was very happy to see the update. This becomes more and more intriguing, and it's fascinating that more and more questions are raised as the plot moves along. Very interesting that touch (as in shared pain?) seems to make things better - at least temporarily. Looking forward to more.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Hi Dreamy! I'm so happy you're reading this! I realize that I stopped at a point where there are more questions than answers. The exchange fic has ttaken up all of my time, but I'll be contiuing with this soon (hopefully). You are right that touch does make things better... I'm so glad you're enjoying this! Thanks for reviewing :)

I really like this story so far. I hope that things will get better now that the two of them are together (they can't really get much worse...).
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Glad you like it so far, Electroyone. Things for Hermione have been awful, truly. Being alone is especially awful, so finding Severus (or him finding her) can only be an improvement :)

Very tense beginning! What happened to Hermione, and what is this Shadow that haunts her? Why is Severus so drawn to her? What does the fortune teller say??
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ahh, yes... lots of questions. I hope that you keep reading and that you enjoy the story as it unfolds. Thanks for commenting!

Interesting, but not Druid. The Tarot was rumored to come from Egypt but was more probably Roumanian. The Romany ( Gypsies) were the traditional readers of the Tarot. The symbols, Cups, Coins, Wands and Swords do refer to the Celtic Treasures but those are not the first images depicted on the cards. The cards came into being many centuries after the Druid strongholds were wiped out by the Romans. I like the story and will wait for more chapters. Thanks for an interesting take on the Horcruxes, however.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thanks for taking time to comment, I'm glad you're enjoying the story and the take on the Horcruxes. For clarification, the prompt requests that Snape be skilled in some sort of Druid magic that is germaine to solving someone's problem. While the story begins with Hermione seeking a Tarot reader, this is not the "Druid magic" that Snape will bring to bear on the issue. The story has only just begun...

Great beginning, I like how Hermione and Severus are connected. What has Hermione done that she's desperate enough to see a muggle fortune teller?
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thanks, FlitterKat. I'm glad you're enjoying this so far. You'll see what's going on with Hermione that has made her so terribly desperate... I appreciate your review, thank you :)

I can't wait to see what happens next. Something tells me this won't be a short quest.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
I don't think this is going to be a short quest, either -- I'm glad you're finding it interesting. More will come after the SSHG exchange story is completed :) Thanks so much for taking time to comment!

Oooh, the mystery deepens. I like the idea of the Horcruxes having a time release poison.

Interesting start. I wonder what would have driven Hermione to an apparently Muggle Tarot card reader as that is so very unlike her.

Sorry that I haven't stopped to review at the earlier chapters, but have drawn me in so utterly that it was impossible to stop reading for just one moment. Now I have tears shimmering in my eyes and a tear-constricted throat and a vervent wish to read on.The way to play with images is absolutely fabulous.

, thank you so much! I'm thrilled that you were so drawn in and delighted that the story has stirred so much emotion in you. This is so much of what I aim for in my writing, and I appreciate you taking time to write a review :)There will be more, but after my SSHG exchange story is turned in. So, don't be discouraged if there's more of a delay between this chapter and the next.
