It was only after Snape followed her into the neglected shop, moving furtively between the shafts of sunlight that pierced the gloom, that it occurred to him to wonder why, ten years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione Granger was running. And why, in a world with magic, real magic, she should be seeking the counsel of a Muggle Tarot reader.

Reviews for King of Swords
Mm. You know, this leaving reviews is not gong to work very well if you keep leaving me speechless. The details were perfect, though. Spooning on the couch. Her need, and his. That Hermione had an uncontrolled burst of magic - what an inspired detail, that.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*grins... Thank you! They felt each other's need so strongly, and it was the first time Hermione had felt safe in so long. Her magic has been so erratic--she didn't expect... that. Oops. :)
~iz speechless~ I... that was just perfect.

*beams Thank you!
What an ingenious concept - that horcruxes would have such dire aftereffects. Also, this Dumbledore takes ruthless to a new level. In short - believable, horrifying... and oh, the possibilities for Severus and Hermione. :-) Oh! And I almost forgot - love the tarot card lady's quips about wizards.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Just as in "Tree of Life," it was inconceivable to me that the horror that is the creation of a Horcrux could NOT have far reaching effects. The Tarot bit (and the cards yet to come) were fun and eerie to write... So glad you're enjoying. :)
What an intriguing start! And such a delicious prompt you received. I am excited to ~finally~ be sitting down with this fic, with the time and ease of mind to give it the attention it deserves.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*beams... It was the one prompt that spoke to me at the PP Prompts that night. I'm so glad you're reading!
That is one of the strongest story openings I have read in a long time. Just as Snape was snatched up by her shadow, so is the reader swept into the currents. There is something here that resonates and calls to the reader to come closer… Well done, indeed.

I love the feeling of rebirth that permeates this final chapter - especially for Severus. It's a very satisfying ending to a wonderful story.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thanks so much. I'm so happy you enjoyed it. Thank you for your lovely reviews. *hugs
Lovely images in this chapter!

Thank you! *grins
What a lovely exchange between Severus and Hermione at the end of this chapter!
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you! That's an interchange that I actually knew was coming from early on in the writing. (That rarely happens in my storytelling :)). It's one of my favorite passages in the story. *beams
Oh my. I think we could be in for some nastiness now...
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*zips lip :)
These are some difficult concepts in this chapter. I feel like I have a little glimpse of what you're trying to say, but like your characters, I don't really grasp it yet.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
They are complicated concepts, I agree. They haven't quite got them down yet, and they're feeling their way... hang in there with them. :)
Hi, I just finished reading this story for the first time, and I can say that I will definitely be reading it again soon, if not right away. I love how you were able to balance the darkness of the situation facing the seven of them with the feeling of hope throughout the story. Wonderful, beautiful, thank you,Aly

*beams... Thank you! Your review makes my day. This was quite a journey for me as I wrote it. So hearing your feedback and knowing that it touched you makes me very happy. Thank you for letting me know. I hope that you enjoy it on reread, and that you enjoy my other stories, too. :)
I love that you gave some validity to Trelawny! It's so unexpected that she might have anything of value to offer. I wonder where the other side is?
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you! She came out of nowhere (as always) and had something to add. *grins... You're asking good questions. *zips lip
What a relief that someone will finally listen! Hopefully they can make some forward strides.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
It's a real step forward for them to break out of their bubble... Here's hoping for some momentum. :)
Beautifully written images and in the end so hopeful.

You've done a lovely job of making the backstory seem like another clue in the mystery, rather than just a bunch of exposition. :)
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ah, thank you. It was challenging to do, so I'm glad it read well!
I wonder how the two of them being so very needy will work in their developing relationship. That can often be a real problem, but we can hope that it will redouble their efforts to find a solution.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Oh, absolutely. It's very tricky, and will be challenging for them not to fall into destructive patterns. Well spotted. :)
Their need for each other was beautifully written. I don't fully understand it yet, but I imagine that the reader will learn along with Severus and Hermione.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you :) *beams... They don't fully understand it either, actually. They'll (we'll) all learn as we go. :)
WOW! I was waiting to read this for a while, checking back now and again -- then suddenly I heard a little birdie say it was complete and FREAKED! I was so excited to read it and now I'm so pleased to be saying hello and thank you for a great story! I think the part in the orchard is my favorite, but the whole thing is amazing. Well written, the characters all reacting Darkly but differently, that seemed realistic to me. Snape just taking it in stride as if it was inevitable and only Hermione willing to step out of the dark and say NO, this isn't right. THANK YOU THANK YOU for keeping on with this. Your writing talents are solid and I'm looking forward to reading more of whatever you write, o-fic or fanfic. THANKS!
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*beams I'm so excited that you were excited! LOL. Hello, to you, too. It makes me so happy to hear that the story held together and that the characterizations worked for you. I hope that you enjoy the other stories I've got posted here, too. :) Thanks so very much for your review. It made my day! *hugs

*beams... Thank you so much! I'm delighted you enjoyed it so much. Thank you for all your lovely reviews :)
A lovely ending to a wonderful story. When Hermione said this to Severus:“If we survive, if you are with me, I can live without magic,” she said. “If it repairs the breach so that we can live, the trees can have my magic back.”I think my heart melted. :D I'm glad that they all came through it cured of the darkenss and strong with thier magic intact. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tale. :)
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Hooray! Thank you! I've enjoyed your reviews all the way through -- thank you for taking the time for such thoughtful comments. :) I'm just delighted that you enjoyed the story so much. *hugs
Okay, I have to admit that you have me worried here. First Severus staying behind, I don't like the idea of the group being separated, especially him being separated from Hermione, she relies on him so much to keep the darkness at bay. And the way Neville fell asleep it seems like some kind of enchantment at work. I hope things look better in the last chapter.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
It's a bit nerve wracking, I know! *holds your hand
I loved that the tarot reader interpreted Neville's card as 'brave' I have always loved his character. And it's so true that is is very much like the Horcrux hunt, they have no real idea what it is they are looking for, only a vague clue and a desparate sense that this thing needs to be done. I felt a bit sad for Filius, it seems clear to me that he feels guilty for not having believed in Severus when he was Headmaster, and is willing to do anything to make it up to him now.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
I'm glad you enjoyed the bit with Neville's card! He drew Prince of Swords -- *grins. I didn't realize initially how much like the Horcrux hunt this would be, but it is! Filius was glad for the opportunity to speak up at last. This is the first step towards them repairing their relationship. :) I'm so glad this has been so engaging! yay!
Interesting as we learn more about "soul magic." How could one go about curing that? It sounds serious indeed.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
It's quite serious, alas.
Intriguing start. You certainly bring up a lot of questions with the use of non-Wizarding magic, as well as why and how Hermione's and Severus's souls are linked/the same.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*beams... Yes... there's a lot here that's as yet, unanswered. :) So glad you're reading and enjoying!
It is so satisfying to see them all working together as a team rather than fighting each other or fighting the darkness alone. I wonder what the fortune teller will think of all of them arriving in her shop
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Oh, I agree! I can't wait to hear how you feel about the final three chapters. *bounces
