It was only after Snape followed her into the neglected shop, moving furtively between the shafts of sunlight that pierced the gloom, that it occurred to him to wonder why, ten years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione Granger was running. And why, in a world with magic, real magic, she should be seeking the counsel of a Muggle Tarot reader.

Reviews for King of Swords
The unconscious is a powerful force. So is the sea.
I adore the fact that, while he is still defensive about what he felt forced to do to win, he is able now to step back and truly see. And they can both literally embrace the connection that fate has given them. This is deep magic indeed. (And beautiful writing, as well.)

It is a tremendous and powerful influence indeed. He is gaining perspective and the cards (and Hermione) are pushing him in ways that are unusual for him. And yet, he can tolerate it all far better than ever before. They both are marveling at the gift fate has brought them in one another. I'm so glad you're enjoying the storytelling and the style!
Due to my fallible memory, I try to stick to completed stories only. Your story drew me in from the start and kept me awake all week. It was like reading a mystical quest, and your characters came to life as strongly as Circe and the Argonauts. Yet everyone survived, stronger and healthier than ever. I'm glad they all get new wands, but you've got me wondering about the Muggle tarot card reader -- if they go back to her shop, will she still be there? Will they actually understand Trelawney now? Neville's marriage is restored? (We never really saw Hannah in this story.) I can see Hermione writing a "Headmasters Only" chapter of "Hogwarts: A History" to explain the place where magic begins. The Unspeakables will be interviewing them in great detail. Thank you so much for this memorable story!

I can totally understand waiting for a story to be complete before reading. I'm so glad that you decided to pick up "King of Swords" now that it's done. :) I'm delighted that you enjoyed it! *beams'Mystical Quest' -- that resonates with me, yes. I love that the story kept you awake (hope you got some sleep in there ;)) and I really like the questions you're left with. I can imagine them going back to the tarot reader's shop and discovering that it doesn't exist... I wonder if anybody will ever understand Trelawney! LOL. I did think a lot about Hannah, but she didn't want to come join them... but Neville will go back to her and they will repair their relationship now that he's healthy and whole again. No doubt the Unspeakables will be fascinated with their journey. Thanks so much for reading and especially for dropping by to let me know what you thought of the story! :)

When I finished chapter 20 it was about 7:30 am, so I only got a few yours of sleep. (I kept saying "this is the last chapter I read before I go to sleep" -- yeah, right!) That's the kind of pull your writing had on me.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Despite your lack of sleep ~hands you more coffee~, this is squeeful for me! I'm so excited that you found it so gripping! ~beams~ Thank you! I hope you enjoy my other stories, too. Everything posted is complete.
"OoRah," indeed! I suppose I can't really blame Ginny--she's suffering, too. So Harry can't provide the kind of soothing relief that Severus does? Poor girl! Glad our pair are finding a way to get through it--and what a way it is, too! Looking forward to the rest of their card reading (and loving the combined efforts needed to make it happen), but meanwhile.... Yum!

*grins... It's the name of the "Heather" card. :) The five of them (the others) aren't doing well with one another. They barely tolerate each other, but with Hermione, it became explosive. Our pair are finding their way... I'm so glad you're enjoying!

You didn't need to stack the deck--the cards, despite his cynicism, show him what is possible and how to heal. This is beautiful.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thank you! It was remarkable what fell all by itself. The cards led the way. *beams

Wow. I had hoped that each of them would find their happy mirror but standing witness to the fiendfyre has made the hair on my arms stand up. Seems as though to heal their cracked soul will be more of a spirtual journey then a bandaid. We shall see.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ah, those mirrors. They had a job to do... Spiritual journey--yes, indeed. I think you're right, there...
I never thought about the RoR as being in pain. But it fits together with the idea of a sentient (of sorts) castle. How odd that no one tried to go in since the battle. Or maybed they did try but were not sucessful. I am so glad the professional staff have embraced this problem of their alumni and are working towards a solution. Says quite a bit about the values of the people who work at Hogwarts doesnt it?
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
It's not clear that nobody tried to get into the RoR since the battle, just that nobody succeeded. Nobody's need trumped the Room's need until now. You are so right about the staff--it says a lot about their values.
It's beautiful that they can provide comfort for one another, as they find a way to eradicate the taint to their magic and their souls. I fear for them both, but especially Hermione, as she seems less willing to trust their connection. She may think he sometimes behaves as an arse and a git, but he's really more open to the possibilities of healing than she is right now. I trust she will learn, though...once she recovers consciousness!
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Hermione has been through far more rejection these past ten years than Severus. He, ironically enough, has done more healing in his solitude. He is more open, and she's getting less sensitive to his prickly tendencies. :) We'll see how it goes when she regains consciousness... *bwahahahahahaMUAH!
Ouuuuuu I just love it when you unfold a bit of cannon and tell us more. The mirrors. Simply facinating! I chucked at old fashioned Minerva. We only require one set of chambers!
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Yay! I find Mirrors in the Potterverse fascinating! Oh, Minerva. She was a wee bit surprised, you know? But she adjusted quickly -- gotta give her that! :)
good a new chapter, and a very interesting one. I love your story. It is nice to see they are one the way to healing, can't wait to see what the card-reader can do for them. I like your Severus and Hermione

Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying the story and the Severus and Hermione here. They are most definitely on their way... Thanks for reviewing!
Thanks for the update - can't wait for the next installment
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Thanks for reading! So glad you're enjoying. chapter 20 is underway :)
Yeeeaaaah! *does Kermit dance* A new chapter! And what a chapter. I have to agree that the counter agent to malevolence is trust. To trust in each other means that there's no suspicion eating away at their souls. Let's hope the fortune teller can help. Next chapter, please. *looks at watch, crosses arms, taps foot, and gives author her best Severus glare* (Hey, at least I said please.) ^_^
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
*beams... Trust is a powerful healer. Chapter 20 is already begun! *runs off to continue writing :)
So exciting to get another chapter of this! There's something about healing stories somehow that's just more interesting than destruction stories.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Ah, yes. I have to agree, there. The destruction was inevitable, but it's so satisfying to take them on a healing journey :) Thanks for reading and for letting me know you did!
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! please update soon!-Amirah

VBG. How did you know just what to say to make my day? I'm thrilled you're drawn in and enjoying this. Chapter 10 posted the other day, 11 is about to post, and 12 is in the queue. :)
Sounds like you're up to no good.I do love the way all of this worked and they way you described the cards and how they related to Hermione and Severus.Hope Neville listens, if he doesn't just drop dead right there.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
Who, me? LOL. That card reading blew me away. Seriously -- I threw the cards and that's what landed. I hope Neville listens, too... *wibbles
wow. I had forgotten how good this story is.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)

Excellent! Thank you :)
You are doing a wonderful job of expressing their emotions. I can feel the fear and loneliness. I'm intrigued by your muggle tarot reader. I want to know more about her and the soul magic she referred to.
Response from shefa (Author of King of Swords)
You're intrigued! Yes! :D It's important to me that the emotional tone comes through -- thanks for letting me know it does :D
