Reviews for The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore
I like this story very much. It is an original idea and I like your mix of humor and drama. This is an excellent chapter. Thanks for sharing your Aberforth with us!

Thanks, and I thank JKR for putting him in the Hogshead in the first place, him and his goats. The situation had such wonderfully twisted possibilities...
What a chapter full of tragedy and hope. It was wonderful.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yes, Aberforth is an intriguing character, vastly neglected in fanficdom. I actually had to rewrite much of this when DH came out, but the chap is the better for it.
Oh, poor Hermione! I love what you've done with Scrimgeour! Wonderful chapter! Thank you for this tale.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
I think I got the idea from his name, "Rufus." Sounds like "ruthless".
Hermione had no chance with Rufus, did she? Anyway, I can't wait to see where this goes.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Right! Next chapter coming up.
Hoorary! Another chapter of this original and imaginative tale! I am really enjoying it. You have mixed in bits of humor and horror, making this a commanding story.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
I'm glad you are. And I am--we all are--lucky to have such an excellent example to follow in Jo Rowling.
Interesting idea, being stuck in Death's house until it is time to cross over.

I haven't mentioned it yet, but the idea originated with Artimisa, who wrote a very interesting one-shot for the Sugar Quill called "Black Garden". A verrry interesting take-off on Terry Pratchett's character, Death, of his Disc-World series, both of which which I highly recommend. Unfortunately Artimisa didn't want to expand on it, so she gave me permission to do so. We'll see more of Death in later chapters.
This is such an interesting and original (if rather creepy) plot! Thank you for writing this tale! I like the protraits helping. (I like stories with portraits playing an important part.) And Sirius's role is so unexpected in a post-HBP story. I enjoy your fun & funny touches like the flobberworms, Buckbeak's snacks (yuck!); Dr. Dolittle; Death's uninvited guests. Well done!Plot nit-pick: Sirius wouldn't have mentioned being in Trelawney's class because SNape and Trelawney both applied for jobs at Hogwarts the same year. So Sirius, being the same age as Snape, could not have taken Trelawney's class.

Oh, my, you are one sharp

. I thought I was a canon-guru, but I didn't see that one. Thanks a heap. And I'm glad you are enjoying the story so far.
Let's put the weight of the world on Hermione's shoulders, why don't we?
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Hee-hee! Yeah, it's not like she has anything else to worry about.
Hahaha She really didn't see that coming? silly girl!
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yeah, Hermione is bright, and a bit of an egoist, but she's also very earnest and upright--and she has her mind on Ron--and Harry's problems--and Ron--and her work for Professor McGonagall--and, oh yes, Ron--and the upcoming wedding --and did I mention Ron?...
Oh, how typically Dumbledore - candy wrappers! Now that's clever!
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Thnks, Bea. I do love that old codger!
LOL Sirius showing up in her soup! hehehe now tht would mess with your appitite!Cute beginning... and a definate draw to read more.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Glad you like. It's very like Sirius, don't you think?
This is interesting.

I missed your updates, I guess it was while I was rather ill. But that gives me more to read now! Thanks for this chapter, so funny! Wonderful tale.- Wahoo
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Sorry you were ill, but glad you're better. Wahoo and whoot!

That was funny. A nice end to your story.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Thanks for hanging in there, Blue. You're a nice audience too.
That was too funny. She's in love with Icky.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yeah, after reading all those stories with Hermione falling for Draco and Snape, I thought going gaga over a troll because she was under a spell wouldn't be much of a stretch.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yeah, after reading all those stories with Hermione falling for Draco and Snape, I thought going gaga over a troll because she was under a spell wouldn't be much of a stretch.
Aww very sweet. Thanks so much for this clever and different story!-wahoo
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
This one really made me emotional too.I tried to think how sad and guilty Remus would be feeling and how weird Hermione would feel about confronting a teacher.
That was rather creepy, but you managed to put in enough humor to balance the dementors. (and the hope at the end that the dementors will have to cough up their latest acquisitions) Thanks for not letting the Dementors get Sirius and Regulus, so happy to see them reconciled!-Wahoo
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Thanks, Wa, this was one of the tougher chapters to write. They do cough up at least one for a later chapter.
This story is so neat and original! a great deal of fun and good feelings, too. You have come up with a great ideas and supporting cast. - Wahoo
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Thanks. I have to thank the originator of the challenge on which these chapters are based for prodding my imagination.
'Mione Gingold! how funny, since Hermione Gingold played a witch in Bell, Book, and Candle. Yay, another wrong on the way to being righted. Something tells me Hermone will be back after she's saved Dumbledore from a fate worse than death, to save innocent prisoners/
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Oh, I didn't know that, but I loved her in "The Music Man" and "A Little Night Music."
Good job, Hermione, talking back to Death! Intriguing story.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yeah, I just had to remember all those clever retorts I wished I had made to surly bosses and teachers, and it became very easy to write.
I'm glad McGonnagal warned Hermione, but I believe Hermione actually would know to be careful.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Yes, she would know to be careful, but *how* to be careful, with such a wiley old warrior like Scrimgeour, that's the question.
I don't know how much that helped. He's still a bit grim at the end. No pun intended.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
Hee, hee, yep, but H. does find out laer that it helped the cause somewhat.
This is charming and original. I am partial to stories with lots of Portraits and House Elves, so I loved the scene in the Headmistress's office."She really was with child to know more about the workings of this magnificent device," Is that a British idiom? it is very odd to my American ears. The meaning is clear enough since we know Hermione, but I am curious about the expression.
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
I'm American too. I read that phrase somewhere,
Response from spiderwort (Author of The Ransom of Albus Dumbledore)
, and loved it. I believe it was a British author, but I can't for the life of me remember whom. And I tried Googling it and got all manner of anti-porn sites.A house-elf named Blobby is important to one other chapter, fairly far in, but I hope you'll find some other original types to sustain your interest. A troll figures in another one as well as lots of minor characters from the books. Enjoy!
Well, that was interesting.

Wait till you read how life after death works in this crazy world.
