I picked up the Harry Potter fandom around the time the first movie came out and began writing fanfic early 2005 after discovering the adult online community. I identify most closely with the Slytherins and you will see my taste in writing lends me to writing about Slytherins more often than not. In addition to fanfiction, I also make fanvids on the Harry Potter fandom. I'm a Perfect Imagination acredited beta and am willing to help authors. My main 'ship interests are Snape/OC (never really got into the SS/HG pairing) and LM/any female (with HG as a new favorite). I have dabbled in RL/OC and RL/NT and am okay with those pairings. I generally shy away from slash, just not my thing. For updates on my writing, check out my Live Journal
Reviews for The Letter
Lucius wields his wand of emotional manipulation well doesnt he? Poor Ron he doesnt even know Hermoine well enough to know when he is being lied to. I am enjoying the story very much! Thanks!
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Lucius is good, isn't he? It's just such a Slytherin way of doign things. <eg> As to Ron, he's pretty obtuse and has 'the emotional range of a teaspoon'. LOL One of the better lines in the books. Plus there is the fact that Hermione is generally not one to lie and when she does, it is a very big deal.
I'm glad you are enjoying this.
I love that it took Ron a while to come up with an intelligent question. Shall I start a countdown to the disolvement of their relationship? I can see it coming, Hermione can see it, and before long, Ron will see it, too. I loved that Lucius referrened fairy tales, though it was a bit odd, it was still very amusing. Great chapter! I can't wait for more!
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Ah, Ron. He's so much fun to play with. He's a good guy and a good mate, but I just don't see him with Hermione. Let's see how the writing on the wall materializes for the obtuse.
I thought that would be a fun little reference for Lucius. Now one just has to wonder where he got it. LOL Did he actually read Muggle stories or are their Wizard versions where the magical folks are the heroes or did he get it from Severus?
Response from Delayed Poet (Reviewer)
I actually love Ron, but not with Hermione. (Though every once in a while it's fun to play with them.)
Hmm, I highly doubt it would be the first option. When I read it I immediately thought that there were probably magical versions of them. Severus doesn't strike me as the type to have read fairy tales.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
-who is still waiting for more *grin*
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
My beta and I are working on more. :D There may be a few minor changes and tweaks to be made, but I'm getting there.
The idea of magical versions of the fairy tales has me intrigued. Once the prompt window is closed, I may have to experiment with that and see if I can make it work.
Hermione can never resist a challenge. She'll take Snape's bait. Her Gryffindor honor won't let him die.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
And that's why she was chosen. :D Nothing like using one of your adversary's strengths as a weakness, is there?
I like your explanation for why Voldemort wouldn’t kill Snape himself. It’s an interesting and plausible beginning to the story of saving Severus Snape.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Thank you. I often wondered why he didn't kill Severus himself. Now he did kill the Muggle Studies teacher, so he has not stopped completely, but I wonder if that was just to test Lucius' wand? But it did leave a nice door open that an AK wouldn't. And not just for Harry to get the memory. That's my justification to make the decision to use Nagini make sense. of course, he might have just wanted to see Snape suffer for no good reason since he isn't sane.

This is soooo Snape. I love the artful manipulations.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Thanks. I really do think he would do some sort of little scheme like this rather than leave it all out in the open.

Oh poo what a place to stop!
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
LOL Standby because I do like cliffhangers to keep folks coming back for more. :)

Quite a beginning, I am wondering where you are going with this.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
I'm glad you found the beginning so intriguing as to keep coming back. That was my big goal.

ohhhhh - a good mystery - I loved how you set it all up and when she read the letter and he said I am not dead - I was in total shock - I like it when the writer throughs you for a loop but in the end it was all leading to it. I cannot wait to see where the story goes and what twists and turns it takes
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Thank you. I'm so very glad to have thrown someone for a loop with that little revelation. I hope you enjoy the rest of the journey.

w00t!! Snape's alive! If anyone can solve the mystery, it's Hermione.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Yup, she is the one who can help him. And I'm so glad to find there are other people who are happy to see Snape alive. I know that some folks don't care for that sort of AU thing, but for many of us he was the most fascinating character in the series and killing him off was a crime.
Oh Yeah! He’s Alive! So Severus thought so highly of her that he has asked Hermione to brew the potion? What’s the catch? And she’s going to be foolish enough to trust Lucius Malfoy?
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Yup, Snape is alive. Of course there is the question about the conflict between her natural curiosty and suspcion of Slytherins. Quite a confict for her, isn't it? LOL
"The disappointment that had permeated the very depth of her soul when he had abandoned both her and Harry had now returned and seemed to be taking up permanent residence in her psyche." I agree with Hermione 110%. I dont know that I could ever forgive abandonment. Go mystery author go!
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Thanks,
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
. I have been trying to figure out how Hermione could forgive him. Yes it was still painful, but after his chickening out like that because he was safe as a pureblood was really dispicable. Glad you are enjoying it.
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
I think JKR let Hermione forgive Ron because it was easy. I cannot see how Hermione would have forgiven him knowing what we do about her in canon. Oh yet another point of my list of gripes with DH.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
LOL We all seem to have a long list, don't we? For most of us it starts with killing Snape and orphaning Teddy. I know she really connects with Hermione and I kind of wonder if she had a thing for a redheaded young man in her youth that she let get away.
Snape is alive! Well, sort of. I'm glad that Hermione is wary of the situation. However, there seems to be a whole lot of trust coming from two Slytherins here. Perhaps a small show of faith in return is reasonable. Besides, it was her idea to see Snape, not Malfoy's.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Yep, sort of alive is right. I'm not sure it's as much trust as her following her insatiable curiosity, something Snape obviously knew about in leaving all those little tidbits for her. But trusting Slytherins is not something that would come easily.
Ooooh! An old dark house, walls and walls of books and mounting confusion. Now, should I be happy to see Lucius Malfoy or scared out of my wits? He is both attractive and deadly. Hmmmm.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Glad you enjoy the mystery. I'm sure you've read on from this chapter and had some questions answered, but it makes for a nice start, doesnt' it?
Ron's a prat. Hermione's looking for a better life. Snape's one big mystery. All those things together make an excellent beginning for an intriguing tale.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
I'm glad you like hte beginning. And I know the Ron is a prat camp will enjoy this one. LOL
Hooray! Snape is alive! I am such a sucker for good 'Snape survives' stories, and this is indeed a good one. Thanks for writing this.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
I'm glad you find this a good one. I worked hard to make it fit logically within as much canon as I could. I really do think she made a mistake killing him off, but it's not my story. Instead I have to selectively ignore events and write it my way. LOL
Is Narcissa still alive then? I gather Hermione isnt looking forward to cuddling up next to Lucius for the apperation!! hahahah Looking forward to the next chapter
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Yeah, cuddling up with Lucius is not high on her list of things to do. LOL Poor Hermione having to trust him.
I like the idea that Hermione must brew the counter-poison for Snape. but how will she deal whith her friends? they are bound to notice if she spends all her time doing research in Spinner End.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Very good. I can't answer those questions here, or that question actually, but it will unfold in the story. :)
Yeh, this was just as good as I hoped it would be: Severus is alive, and with Lucius help, Hermione will save him! A great chapter, very well written (as always) and a wonderful twist on the plot on how to bring Severus back!!!!Update again soon!!!
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Glad you are enjoying this so much. I know there have been quite a few ways to bring Severus back, and I hope that this one is different from that. I hope updates will be coming a little mroe quickly than they have, but we'll see how RL goes.
Nasty, evil cliffie! I wonder why the entire house has been striped almost completely bare, withthe exception of the books?
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
<eg> I love cliffies. LOL That is a big mystery, isn't it? *wink*
As much as Hermione claims to have just gone along with the boys and all their adventures over the years, she never hesitated to do it anyway. Your story shows ho she can be just as curious and advenruous as the other two.Great start
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Thank you. I really do think that she has always had the curiosity. Hanging around with Ron and Harry would have given her the confidence to give into it that she didn't have before. I love the idea that she will have her own adventure without them and am glad that you do, too. :)
Best way I can think of to get Hermione's attention--wave a mystery in front of her.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Isn't that the truth? Especially an academic mystery. That's right up her alley, like figuring out about the basilisk. :D
Poor Hermione. That is a huge responsibility she has to take on.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
It is a huge one, but I dont' think she will see it as a huge burden. This is the sort of thing that she likes. :D
Pretty straightforward setting. I hope you plan some interplay with Snape and Ron (and Malfoys, too, why not) before the happy ending.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
You'll have to keep reading to see how that turns out. Obviously I can't give anything away in the reviews. :D
Well done Hermione! She must have some control over this - since everyhting has been plotted out and now just thrust into her lap!
Yea! Snape is alive!
Livvy
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Glad you are enjoying this, Livvy. And it was nice to see her assert herself rather than just being the cog in the gears, right? And yes, Snape alive. :D I'm still made and JKR about that. >:(
I'm glad Hermione is willing to try, but I like that she can throw Lucius off guard.
Response from phoenix (Author of The Letter)
Wasn't that so much fun? LOL Go Hermione!!!!
