Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Brilliant!
I shall bookmark this story and eagerly await more.

Thanks! There's more on the way soon.
Mmm, intriguing! I feel so bad for poor Snape; his life really sucks. He has to kill the Headmaster, he probably won't survive the war, and he is being forced to marry someone who he doesn't like and who doesn't like him. Dumbledore is quite the manipulative bastard. I liked how you worked in the quotes, too.

I know! Poor Snape. Everything is on his shoulders. Thanks for the review!
Another wonderful chapter. Thank you!Jade

I don't know if you still check this page, but I wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed binging ALL of your completed stories on here. They have brought me joy, tears, and so much more. Thank you for all the hard work that went into these stories (this one in particular). You have made these past 4 days magical (I have no idea how I managed to get through some many words in so short a time but I enjoyed every single one). You are brilliant.
My dear Lariope,
Here I sit nearly 10 years after you published this fantastic story! I feel compelled to leave you a message saying that i read this story around Harry Potter's birthday every year. What a wonderful work this is!!!!!!
I thank you for sharing your talent with this reader! Time may have passed since we last spoke online, bit I am still quite the fan of all your work!
I hope this message finds you doing well!
Love and Coffee!
Author's Response: Spicy Pepper! What a wonderful message, and it made me smile a lot to hear from you again. I can hardly believe that it has been almost 10 years. Thank you for continuing to read it, and thank you for messaging. I hope the intervening years have been good to you xoxoxox
Goodness! You certainly know how to capture urgency and panic. (And make the reader feel it, too!) Deep down, I was a little disappointed that Hermione didn't second-guess Snape's "betrayal," even fleetingly. Even after their heartfelt goodbyes and "believe"s. Though I think I can forgive her, since Dumbledore's death was so shocking, and absolutely the last thing she expected. On a different note, I just wanted to thank you for this amazing read. I'm a new HG/SSer and I'm ashamed to say that I haven't been leaving reviews after I've read other fics. But after stumbling upon this one, I just HAD to express my admiration. And it's great that you take the time to respond to readers' reviews. All in all...rock on :)

! And welcome to the good ship SSHG! We're glad you're aboard! I don't want to say anything about Hermione in this chapter yet for fear I'll spoil...So I will just say thank you for reading, and for your wonderful reviews.

I've finally managed to catch up with your chapters, and despite my initial misgivings about its premise, I have enjoyed it very much. I like your version much better than DH; you made me smile and sometimes you made me cry, but I loved that you never left us without hope. This chapter was the perfect ending to your story.

Thank you so much, Dreamy Dragon. I'm so glad that you're back and well--and thank you for finishing Second Life. That means a lot to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Your words about hope touched my heart. xoxoxox

aww she is aware that he does care for her. Yet, now she seems to find that she is losing herself (ie friends) because of her feelings toward Snape. Is it a foreshadowing of a theme that she will have to go through in the coming chapters? Going to have to continue to find out XD
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think there is a balance here that she hasn't begun to figure out how to maintain, which is true for many people, particularly young people in relationships, I think. You know the friend who gets a boyfriend and falls off the earth? I think those first stirrings are very powerful, she's very otherwise focused if you know what I mean. Fortunately (or unfortunately) she'll spend the next year living in a tent with her friends, and so I think she'll be forced to work out that balance. Thank you so much for your reviews! you always make me think. :)

There is quite a maturity to Hermione by waiting for him to speak to her. She just waits until he answers the door, when he is ready to face her, instead of just forcing him to answer her. This Hermione is so level headed, filled with love, that when Severus pushes her away because of his insecurites, it is so saddening. It even seems funny to me that when she came to tell him about Harry he just assumes that she has other reasons to be there - almost like he is trying to get her to admit she that she wants to be with him so he can throw away those insecurites (that he doesn't want to admit to).But he got his answers in the end, and the only way that he managed to do it was to torment it out of her. Poor girl and boy. She is so good for him that if he doesn't change (say if this were RL) she could easily just out grow him.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, I think Snape would be absolutely maddening in RL!! And yes, I think for someone like Hermione, it would be easy to outgrow him. I think for them, it will be their experiences together that really cement the relationship.Thank you so much for reading and revieiwng!

He was not surprised by her statement. Rarely had he seen a Muggle-born take to magic as she had. It was not just her talent for it, but the way she had steadfastly remained friends with Potter, taking up a prominent place in a magical war that had existed long before she knew of magic, long even before she was born. Bring my own view on this; I cannot help but think he's delusion by this thinking. It seems that he thinks she is friends with Potter because of her magical abilitlies rather than her love and devotion to Harry.
In the end I wonder what her true reasoning for thinking that she belongs more in the magical world than the muggle world? Is it her purpose, her destiny, her love or actually what he assumes, her determined talent?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I see what you're saying. I think he's referring to magic in a larger sense--the world of magic, the wizarding world--rather than her talent for spellcasting. I think he's saying that she's quite devoted to the world (and the wizards in it, ie Harry) otherwise she could have, when the going got tough, retreated back into the Muggle world. But I'm really glad that you are questioning the truth of Snape's inner thoughts, because i do find him a slightly unreliable narrator at times. :)

I can't help but think that this dark lord is quite foolish. I think its because this Snape is quite snarky and he even remains so with Voldemort.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think I've always believed that Voldemort was pretty foolish. To my mind, he is the kind of Dark Lord that believes what he wants to believe and acts with a flourish, wanting glory along with his power. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

I love the interaction between the two and I find I love how this story directly follows the novel in a way.

I know how difficult it is to try and take care of someone while feeling helpless. I think this is what got to me more than anything in else in the chapter. NOT to say that anything was bad about it, far from it. It just I could really empthasis with her.I was also wondering through this chapter if he was more angry that she had seen him so vunable than the other reasons he gace. But I guess that is just my prespective than the actual tale.

, I think you're right on about both Severus's and Hermione's feelings during this chapter--and honestly, I think both those feelings are pivotal to this story, so I'm super happy that you picked up on it. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
