Reviews for Second Life
Poor Severus and his self-esteem issues.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know. But that's why we love him, isn't it? That he pretends he doesn't care but really he does? At least, I think that's part of it. :)

Thank you! I actually still have great fondness for Chapter two. It's the giant squid thing that I never stopped loving. :)

Wow, what a ride. I spend last weekend to read this story (I never read unfinished stories) and I couldn`t put it down. I promised myself never to read DH again. Now I have and it is a version I like much, much better. In the end Severus lives and there is hope.I love how you showed Severus' and Hermione's relationship. How it grows slowly and steadily and how they struggle through their doubts and insecurities. I also love Severus' relationship with Dumbledore in this story. Your Dumbledore is much more likable than JKR's althought he is still the cold chess-player, the one who dooms Severus for death. Severus' reaction to that revelation is very well written by you.The half point I substracted from my rating is due to the... camping! :-)I just don't like it. But it is not your fault that there is camping in this story. After all it was JKR's idea...Thank you very much for many entertaining hours with my favourite couple and their friends and associates... :-)

! I'm very happy that you liked it. Thank you for reading!I am always fascinated by people's takes on my Dumbledore. MORE likable than JKR's? :) I thought I massacred his character. But then, I think we all approach Dumbledore very personally, from very different perspectives. I very stubbornly (like JKR, I think) refused to see the manipulator in him--I was steadfastly committed to adoring him before I started writing SL, a fact that always makes me laugh.Oh, the poor camping. It gets such a bad rap. :) No, it's true, when DH came out, I complained about the camping as much as the next person, so I understand.Thank you again for such a wonderful review!

I just don't know what to say. The first time I read this chapter I was in a bit of a state of shock. The same denial and sadness that this piece of literature I've been reading for -- how long has it been now? a year? half a year? Well it reminds me of finishing Ininite Jest* and just being so sad and really missing the characters and wishing there was more. You ended SL beautifully, don't get me wrong and Hermione's last monologue is beautiful -- and a sort of thematic statement of the piece. I'm sure that in a month or two I'll reread SL and have more to say. But now I can't criticize anything or really think of anything to say other than thank you and to echo the sentiments of another reviewer that I hope you are getting paid for your craft and your talent somewhere and that you know how much you mean to so many people (myself included, of course) who you've touched with your work. As well as the tremendous generosity of providing this beautiful work I really appreciate the equal generosity of posting in a forum like this where we as readers are able to engage with you -- that takes a certain degree of courage, I think.Hilaria*by the late, wonderful David Foster Wallace.

Dear Hilaria,Thank you so much for this. I'm incredibly moved by the idea that my words have meant something to you--that the world, not just JKR's world, but my SL world, had come to be a part of your life. Thank you.I wish I had better, less common, words for thank you, so that you would know how much this means to me. Writing is such a solitary thing--and yet, finding this community has made it anything but solitary. I cannot imagine going back to writing in a vaccuum. Between the reviews (good AND bad), my incredible betas, and the mods--It's been an incredible gift to me. Thank you for reading, and for taking the time to write to me, now and throughout SL. Dear Lariope,I have left off reviewing, hoping something profound would come to mind. I've been reading this for the better part of the year, after all, sometimes counting down the days until Update Tuesday. My RL isn't so trite or meaningless; you know by now that my two under-5s keep me quite busy. But this story has been important to me, and by extension, so have you.I suddenly realized that the Christmas tree light you described in the final chapter actually describes how I feel about the end of your lovely story. I love looking at the tree in the dark, with all the other house lights off. I love trying to soak in the wonderful-ness of the season, just in that light, with my darlings beside me, in that view, in that instant. And it's always wistful, because I know it can't last, that January and the rest of winter will follow, and I will have to wait another 350 days for the magic of my Christmas tree lights to strike me again. You have given thousands of strangers a beautiful gift - and those who reviewed - you responded to them! (Now, I'm not so old- 37 - that I don't know what OMG means, but I hesitate to use it, even when the situation so plainly calls for it.) OMG! OMGOMGOMG! What kind of craziness is that? I beg of you, please do that again, in your next free work of fiction. That brings me to my next point. I implore you to pay yourself first, and put your amazing, brilliant talent to work, and write something that pays you back in more than generous thoughts. I've said this before, and I'll say it again - this is the best fanfic I've ever read. To put that in perspective, I'm a big fan of Ladyofthemasque. She's bloody brilliant. Let's face it - you and I both know that her stories, her style, and her skill are all professional-level. You're better. (Still love you, too, LOTM! Don't cut me off!) Ok. Since I am sure I'm not the first person to gush at you at the end of this beautiful story, I'll cut it short. Thank you for sharing yourself so openly with so many people, and for doing it with such grace. I wish you only happiness and good fortune, and I am smiling as I write this, and hope you are, too.Cheers and thanks,Christina

Dear Christina,I wish I could say thank you in some special and more personal way. You were one of the very first people to review SL over on Restricted Section. You have been my benchmark throughout--I have waited for your opinion and hoped to please you from the beginning. To hear from you now feels like an incredible gift.I am so grateful that my story and I got to be a part of your life this year. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to this. There's something very bittersweet about answering the last reviews, about letting go of a world that has dominated my real one for nine long months. But know that I have come back to this on the dark days. How could I not smile after such a review?Thank you, my friend.Meg

stupid horcrux. I hate it. Whenever I read anything about the wearing of that necklace I feel so anxious! The original stories or fanfiction. That horcrux is scary!
Beautiful! Loved it. It was quite a distraction from work, I must say. I'm rather behind on some assignments. *cough* :)

Oh, dear lord!Phew! Your wonderful tale has been something close to an obsession for me for the past two weeks (which time has been punctuated by moving, no internet and changing universities) and to reach the end of it now, at 7 minutes to midnight, with a happy ending and all that goes with it - well, I'm at once ridiculously happy, and devastated.I adored your story, was caught up in it until the very end, grew to love your Severus and Hermione, and raced to finish the last few chapters. But, but, but... why is it over?!Obviously because it ends where it ends; but I just wanted to say: thank you, for writing such a fantastic piece of epic intricacy.Absolutely wonderful :)

Just finished! This was so much fun, even though sometimes I was bawling like a Nicholas Sparks enthusiast. :) Totally awesome, lady! Totally awesome.

Wow! Thank you so much for reading! I'm really... just floored. You now know me better than anyone else in our town. :)I'm glad you liked it, Nicholas Sparks-like tears aside. :)xoxo

By the by, I watch a program that I think you might like. It's called Skins, and it's on BBC America. It's basically a teen drama - but with waaay more wit and realism. Super fun. Check it out. Sunday nights at 10 I think.

LOL. Oh dear. Poor Snape.
another good cahpter. Severus really just is too suspecious to really see that Gryffindors are what they seem. He is so intent on finding the meaning behind her actions he isn't reading her at all. At least he finally go the clue this time.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
He is the suspicious sort, isn't he? I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Thank you for reading!

Inapproperate to kiss his wife? The mushroom lesson was so cool. I liked her line about his taking so many risks for her - and his reaction. Priceless!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! Man, did those mushrooms take some research. Thank God for Google! I'm so glad you liked this chapter, Bea. It's one of my favorites. Thank you for reviewing!

Didn't he know she had simply waited because she was worried about him? Geeze, and he's supposed to be smart. Ilove how she's always doing something unpredictable to him. Great chapter - as par for this story. Gads, I'm supposed to be typing not caught up in another story... mabye one more chapter...

I like the fact that she made up her own disguise. He should have given her points! I love the fact that Hermione was able to grasp the Occlum thing so well, but why did he push at her so hard? I mean he pushed so far he made her faint and could have hurt her!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Severus the insecure definitely made a big appearance in this chapter, it's true, and he could have hurt her. I think he was just desperate to know whether what he felt that night was real... whether it had been real for her too. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

I really feel sorry for Hermione sitting all alone at the Gryffindor table. how lonely. The lessons were cool. I really like the idea of the Disguising Charms. really cool!

Oh all the nerve of the guy! Hermione does all that fo rhim, tries her best to help him, iwth no Healer training and he trew her out - because he hurt her! git. I was amazed a the fact that Voldemort didn't know who Hermione was. Just Potter - his nemisis - ohter best friend. duh. Another good one. I am really enjoying this story.

Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. I do think I wrote a rather limited Voldemort--but then Voldemort was kind of limited in canon. LOL!

The whole Ron thing was so hilarious. Severs' jealousy and the ring appearing, too cute. I think Hermione manipulated Lavender as well as any Slytherin, and with just enough push to get her hooked. LOL Good chapter

Thank you! Poor Ron... Poor Lav-Lav... They never knew what hit them. And I do think Hermione has a rather strong Slytherin strain.... :)
