Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
Well I'm glad at least someone got the plan right! It was so painful reading this chapter because of all that entails; not just Severus's emotions but Hermoine's as well. I think you described perfectly the conflictive feelings that Hermione is feeling and I especially like the part when she speaks of how she doesn't know who to cry for anymore.God damned Malfoys! I wanted to kill Draco when he put all the blame on Severus! And seriously how stupid is Voldemort to actually believe it? It's not like Severus it's always going for the spotlight. I want to choke that damned ferret.*breathe it's just fanfiction; it's just fanfiction...*Another great chapter and as always looking forward to more.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm taking too much pleasure in your anger at Draco. I really hate Draco. But truly, I think Voldy is more horrible in this chapter. He KNEW that Draco wouldn't be able to do it, and he punished Snape for doing it anyway! *Now working myself up into a snit at Voldemort*Thank you so much for reviewing.
I am in awe at this funeral scene and how Hermione suddenly comprehended the terrible things that have happened and of how Severus really carried out the "masterplan". The world that unfolds for her is a reality beyond reality, and again it's all about "believing". I'm excited to see how Severus will handle the cruel task that he was asked to fulfill ... I suspect we'll see more interaction between our husband and wife than DH reveals...Again a great great chapter!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Goodness knows, I hope so. I don't think I'm capable of writing a romance in which the lovers never interact! :DThank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate them more than you know.
You've written this chapter very well. I'm sure it was difficult having to write out Hermione's conflicting emotions, but you did it quite well.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I really appreciate it.
How appropriate that when Snape begins to set Draco in the best possible light, Narcissa grabs the opportunity and betrays him to protect her son. That's foolish, though, because with other witnesses, Draco's true actions will be revealed 'ere long. But that sort of character will betray, and frequently will come out on top. (too true in our own world, as well.)This is such a good story, and this chapter was moving and powerful. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I like the way you interweave bits of canon whilst keeping it firmly your own AU.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you. I really appreciate your kind words and thoughts. I'm glad I'm still in my own territory--I've been really bogged down in canon for a while now. And I agree that sadly, it is often the Malfoys of the world that get what they want. Bastards.
You never cease to amaze me. This chapter could have so easily been overblown and overwrought, but you hit every note perfectly. I am very curious now about how Severus and Hermione will manage to see each other again (if they will), and how Severus will handle Hermione's parents. Will he assist her in casting the memory modification spells? Great work, but that's nothing new!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, thank you, Emmeline. I'm glad that this didn't feel too maudlin to you. As for the rest, you'll have to wait and see. :D More very soon. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Response from emmeline33 (Reviewer)
Not maudlin at all! Very good!
Then he had turned and hobbled from the room, leaving her staring after him as if he were the last piece of driftwood and all the world an ocean. Lovely metaphor, that. You have such a way with words--you really know how to convey the truth of an emotion, illuminating what each character is feeling with simple clarity. I loved the bit where Snape flicked his wand to make his cloak billow out behind him--HA! Even going up before Voldy, knowing he'll probably be tortured, he's got to keep up appearances. Loved it!Oh and Hermione thinking "When had her boys grown up?" was just classic. Mirroring the thoughts of the reader so nicely, which really helps one to relate to her character even more!I hope the couple gets some stolen time away together--maybe during these next two weeks, before she goes to the Burrow? But even after that, I hope sometime when maybe the boys are asleep in the tent, he manages to find them and they can talk or maybe even snuggle. Okay, sorry, I'm a big ol' sap, I can't help it!Fantastic!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
You've chosen some of my favorite moments from this chapter as well. "When had her boys grown up?" was one of those moments when I actually yanked my own heartstrings, which is always dangerous, because then you never know if you've just gone totally over the top. :)You're not a sap. The mythic tent scene looms large in my mind, too. :)
Will she see Snape when she goes to check on her family? I hate it when they are apart. Makes it so hard to trust someone when you can't see them. :) *wants more, please*I think I want to keep reading so badly because I have a general idea of where you're taking things, but I want to see your spin and I want to see the rest of HBP and DH through THIS perspective. I greatly prefer it!!! :D
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I agree--that will be the trick to DH all the way through--getting them together. Apart is hard on everyone: Snape, Hermione, me, you...hehehe. Thank you so much for saying you prefer it. That makes me very happy. XD
Oh my. You've handled the numbing grief scenes beautifully. And Snape's position now is unenviable, to say the least. Can't wait to see what you do with this. Thanks for the update.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, for Snape, things are just getting worse. More soon...
I'm glad Hermione is keeping the faith. ANother excellent chapter. Thank you!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
You know, when I began, I hadn't intended her to. But then things progressed and I just couldn't imagine her doing anything else. I'm glad it works for you. Thank you for reviewing!
You told the funeral scene amazingly well. It was every bit as good as the book and again, I love hearing this story from this new POV.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm very much hoping to get away from retelling canon soon, but I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Thank you so much for the update! I hope you have some punishment in mind for the coward Draco? The little prat and his weak mother would both have been dead if Severus didn't save their skin, and how do they repay him? It is almost to bad that not all of Voldidorks followers ain't cowards like the Malfoys, if they had, Voldidork would never had a seccond chance and they would all have been caugth and punished by now. At least Severus has an oppertunity to contact Hermione with Voldidorks blessing, I hope you will have her remind the staunt support to Severus as she is ment to be. He deserves to at least be able to count on her. But, I suspect there are others who knows, like Moody? Update again soon!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank YOU so much for the review. Yes, the Malfoys are worthless cowards in my opinion. I hope that they will get their comeuppance. More soon!
This was a great transition, watching Hermione and Severus' thought processes was a good way to bring the story along (not that it was dragging before). I also liked how Snape knows how his masters think they can manipulate him, and how he encouraged that. It's a good insight into how he reacts to the mentions of Lily.Oh, and i really liked the way Snape is so protective of Draco; it suggests more of a mentoring relationship than being tied into protecting him.GREAT!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked it!
Wow! I just love the part where they're exchanging the Felix felicis potion by kissing. And the whole chapter is excellent with just the intensity and dramatics required.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Oh, how tragic. That was so sad.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm really glad you said that. It WAS really sad. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
totally awsome as usual my deari see this is going to be an intresting ride but she cant start doubting now can she?grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr great cliff hangeri am going to totally enjoy dh threw hermiones eyesthank you for another wonderful chapter
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I dread writing DH scenes, but I hope having Hermione's perspective will help. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Ahh I do so love this chapter. It brings to the forefront all of the doubt and questions that a woman can have when she has given her heart to someone and then is shown they are not worthy. I am not saying that Severus is unworthy, but right now Hermione feels betrayed. It just goes to show we do not choose who we love, love chooses us. Well done as always my dear. Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Irish. :)
Hopefully Hermione realizes that she did follow Dumbledore's plan and that he was supposed to die that night. If she doesn't trust Severus, then their marriage would have been pretty pointless.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, I suppose it would have been. But I think Dumbledore had more faith in Hermione than that and that's why he chose her of all people. Thanks for reading and reviewing.
wow, you did this one well
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
The interweaving of canon dialogue with the new plot and new character motivations has always been terrific, but here it's just gorgeous. I've always had a soft spot for Book Six, and this brought back all the incredible, painful suspense of my first reading of this particular episode. Also: Small as Moody's actual presence in the story has been, I've always liked his role as co-guardian of Hermione's secret, and I loved the way he stopped her free-fall at the end of this chapter.
Response from Elisabeth (Reviewer)
P.S. And I didn't peek at the other reviews, either. I remembered Moody's scene all by myself. Hee, hee.

, thank you so much. I'm so glad that you felt the canon weaving worked here. Sometimes I worry about how much canon I've used. And I'm glad you remembered Moody :) I loaded so much into those first few chapters that only just now getting used. Thank you again for such a lovely review.
Oooh!!1! I wonder if Hermione can continue to believe in her husband now. She seems quite shaken. And things are only going to get more interesting from her on out as you go through DH territory. Can't wait!!!! keep up the sterling work!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy it. :)

Were Moody's words to Hermione... he can't have known! It's not possible. But will his words affect her thinking? Because she suddenly feels that Snape used her. (I am correct, right?)
Ok, we all need to calm down here. You've pretty much made my brain split into a thousand pieces, mouth agape. Yeah, it's a pretty picture.
LOL. Truly awesome, stunning work.
Author's Response: "Ok, we all need to calm down here." lol.
I'm sorry I split your wonderful brain. I didn't mean to, I swear.
I'm pleading the 5th about how much Moody knows or doesn't know, but he did witness their marriage, so he knows something anyway. :)
Thank you for this review that made my day.
What a beautiful job on this chapter! I'm sure this must have been difficult to accomplish, getting the chapter just right, but you did a great job with it.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it.
See, there's where JKR went wrong. She left out the part about the molten-liquid-gold kiss between Miss Granger and the Professor as they shared more than the Felix Felicis. Her version really lost something in the writing by leaving that part out of the book!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
hehehehe. I'm actually sort of chortling right now. Yes, if only she'd consulted me before publishing that fool book! I'd have put her on the right track! lol.
Did Moody know?
That kiss was stellar.
Response from mia madwyn (Reviewer)
Duh. Of course Moody knows! I forgot all about that!Whew. I'm so relieved that somebody understands.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks, Mia. Most everyone forgot--It's my fault, really, I built everything into those first two chapters and then went off on my merry way.... hehe. I couldn't leave her all alone with this. I just couldn't.
SQUEE! I am all caught up! I apologize profusely for not reviewing each of the chapters I was behind on, but I'm having a bit of trouble with my hands, lately. Anyway, FABULOUS. This fic has quickly become a favorite. The way you have woven it into canon ... it's seamless. A tricky thing to do, and you do it so well! This chapter is particularly heart-wrenching. The sharing of the Felix Felicis was just so well done. What a brilliant idea! That kiss ... oh, it just broke my heart! Hermione's guilt at the end was perfect, and Moody's pointed statements were just the right touch. Oh, I can't wait to see what you bring us next!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, Shug! I'm glad you're caught back up. Thank you so much for reading and no worries about reviews. I don't care. I'm sorry that your hands have been troubling you so much lately. Thanks again. I'm so glad you liked the chapter.
