Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Wow! I'm more and more impressed by you with every chapter I read. I think the best part of your tale is that, even though it's a "fantasy" pairing of SS/HG, we can actually really imagine this happening in HBP because of how well you are weaving canon in with the "fantasy." It must be incredibly hard to do, yet it reads so naturally, so effortlessly. And the amount of emotion you layer throughout is delicious. Though we know what will happen soon as far as canon goes, we don't know what will happen with their relationship--other than our own wishful thinking! ;-) It's like we don't have to separate from the Harry Potter world we know and love so well to be able to believe and enjoy a Severus/Hermione story. We can have our cake and eat it too, so to speak.Several high points of this chapter for me: 1) Sev picking on Draco for a change: "Funny, I hadn't noticed the furniture becoming invisible as well." HA! Guess he's being influenced by a certain Gryffindor we all know and love.2) Harry's fierce loyalty and protectiveness towards Hermione. I was feeling the same "surge of love" for him at that moment that she was! 3) Okay, this is my 12 year-old moment, but when Hermione's ring burned and then the next italicized word was Fuck...umm, well, let's just say for a split second I was shocked that he would be quite that bold in his proposal!! LOL. Like I said, I'm 12.4) Her own best friend was lying here unconscious, and still she felt fretful over her accidental slight of Snape in the hallway. What was wrong with her? The complexities of her emotions just ring absolutely true here....and so relatable. While everyone's upset about something really serious, she can't deny her heart's somewhere else, wondering whether she hurt his feelings or not and hoping she didn't! Gosh, you have such a knack for cutting to the truth of the matter--we don't always feel the way we think we ought to, but there's no use denying the way we feel. And that's what's causing her meltdown--poor girl. I feel for her.Okay, sorry about my lengthy babbling; I promise my reviews won't always be this long! Absolutely awesome job!

, I wish I could you make you feel, for even just a second, as good as this makes me feel. Thank you so much for your kind, thoughtful words. I'm so glad that the story feels true to canon for you. And more than anything, I'm just glad you like it. :)

"You must be silent; you must be stealthy. Above all, you must be subtle."
I like this. It's a particularly good piece of advice for a writer to stay sharp, fresh, and genuine. Which you do.
Without the loud and the obvious, you're doing a great job on the silent and subtle!
Thank you for another wonderful chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
What an absolutely lovely thing to say. Thank you so much!
Well written, once again! I love the first line—
The weeks passed in a kind of fog through which a bright light seemed occasionally to shine... so poetic!
I am so curious to see where this is going to go after Snape's and Dumbledore's encounter on the tower. My heart is breaking already.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much. I know--it's hard not to be looking ahead to that. I know poor Snape is.
How sad I can feel the tenion in the chapter. I hope your story will have a happy ending.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I believe in happy endings, especially when they are hard-won. :) Thanks for reading and reviewing.
Another great chapter! I'm so intrigued with how this story is progressing. Looking forward to more soon...

Awesome storyline! One of the best WIPs I've come across. Can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I really appreciate that.
I guess I just want to tell you how much I'm enjoying your fic. I've read several SS/HG marriage fics but yours somehow manages to still be refreshing and interesting. ^_^ And I do love your last line in this chapter.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying the story.
I liked how you incorported HBP into your story - a behind the scene's scene. Good chapter.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks!
Oh how tragic - first Severus pushes her away for 4 days and then he is cold to her. She gets upset and he holds her and then she runs - poor guys - circumstance is being tough on them.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It's hard for them to be in the same place at the same time, I agree. And hard to watch them struggle with it.
Oh, lovely! He's finding more things he likes about her and enjoys spending time with her. Loved this chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm so glad. It's one of my absolute favorites.

Veeery complex psychologically - well done!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Well, thanks! That's a great compliment. I really appreciate it.
That is a difficult part for Hermione to play. I can't wait to see how the whole thing plays out.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!
Man, this is intense. I feel their pain. Neither of them is in a good place, in any sense of the phrase. I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! More is on the way...
The web gets more tangled every day for this pair, doesn't it?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It does, indeed.
I hope Hermione is good at reading the signal's Sev is sending. I know they're going to suffer, but it'd be nice for them to have a few happy moments along the way. And picking mushrooms in a snowy forest with Severus sounds like a little piece of heaven to me!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
To me, as well. I'd pick mushrooms with him any time. :)
Oh now what a perplexing chapter! Hermione cares for Severus, but she doesn't want him to care for her because it might put HIS life in danger. Now we know though that he must care for her why else would he go to find her when he thought she might misconstrue the message and then she rebuffs him in the hall. Will these two ever know peace? Well done Lariope dear.Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, my dear.
Isn't that all evidences of her love for him. It's good to know that someone will care and take care of him cause he deserves it so much. It's very well written as ever
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks so much--I really appreciate your reviews. :)
Response from snitchette (Reviewer)
You're welcome.
Another great update! I just adore this story!!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!! I'm so glad. I keep meaning to tell you that the next chapter is actually for you--one of your comments inspired it.
Response from Sampdoria (Reviewer)
Blush:-) Thank you.
I am so glad that she is this concerned over Severus. She is a very caring person, but she can be ruthless and discard the most basic of things when she is caught up in a different issue.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I agree, she can be. And she's young, so I don't think she always means to be as ruthless as she is, but there it is. Thank you for reading and reviewing!
