Reviews for Second Life
“He is enigmatic as always. I sometimes think he is waiting to see how the war plays out, so that he can take credit for the good and deny any knowledge of the bad.”Just like a politician. Waiting to see how the cards fall. I think this is what makes [SL]Dumbledore so sickening to me. Well Lariope, you didn't let us down! This chapter truly kicked ass--it lived up to my every expectation. My favorite moment was when he asks her what her surname is. I'm not even sure why, but that just really tugged at my emotions. He wants to belong to someone and have someone belong to him. Such a simple thing, so many people have and take for granted, but to him, it's everything! Beautiful.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you. I'm so glad you weren't disappointed. This was a rather daunting chapter to approach. And I'm so happy that you liked the surname question!! When I started SL back in January, it was one of my first notes for the story, and I was frankly amazed that it still fit after almost 30 chapters, so that makes me very happy. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
Oh.. gah. Amazing. Some images just linger, like Hermione pressing her head against her hand as she rests it on Snape's scar. And some lines linger, like: "It would have… it would have been nice to work with someone. Someone bright. Someone organized. ... But that was not worth thinking about." Heck, I could just quote the whole chapter back at you, which would be stupid... you wrote the thing. So take a bow already while I go recover my wits.

How can you make me so giggly and so flattered and happy at the same time? I'm so glad you liked it,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
. Thank you so much.
That was so gorgeously evocative that I found myself holding my breath whilst reading it. (Remember -breathe!) Also thankyou for updating so quickly as well as producing a chapter of wonderful quality. I really have loved this story, and how it sinuously interweaves and enriches the original story. I particularly liked the no-nonsense matter that you had Hermione deal with Snape's Patronus (as I was thinking she may be upset by the doe) - considering the dangers and what they had just faced you reminded me that it really was a small issue and should be put aside so they can revel in each other's company. Also you have prompted me to re-read DH just to wonder where they can have a chance to contact each other. Psst...I like yours better. I look forward with interest to see if and where you deviate from canon. On giving Dumbledore a piece of her mind or a spell - why not just a good ol'fashioned Muggle solution - A punch to the nose. It has worked before...Cheers.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
But he's dead, so how can she punch him in the nose? The painted nose? I guess that would work! lol!I'm so happy that you liked this chapter. I so much wanted to tell you--hey, I've already written something about the Patronus--when we were talking about it, but I didn't want to spoil. :)Thank you for reading so closely and actively. I really appreciate it! xoxox
This chapter leaves me without words. It was wonderful.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much.
This is such a wonderful story, and I've been enjoying this thoroughly, even if I haven't been leaving reviews. One criticism however - you had Snape calling You-Know-Who "Lord Voldemort." Wasn't there a Taboo against the name? And for Snape, wouldn't that have been doubly cursed? Would Snape have meant to call him The Dark Lord?I look forward to your updates.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you for reading so carefully! Yes, Snape does call him Lord Voldemort despite the taboo. He's actually done it before, and I really need to leave an A/N about it. (There's a longer response to this question somewhere in the reviews of this chapter) but essentially, for the purposes of this story, I've decided that rather than being "doubly cursed" for the DEs, the Dark Mark protects them from the Taboo. After all, Voldy wouldn't want all this own protective enchantments broken! And I believe he refers to himself as Lord Voldemort. Thank you again for picking up on it, though. I always appreciate my reader's help. You guys often see things that I miss.
Oh, the chapter we've all waited for. The emotion you write between them is exquisite, and all the more intense because they share so few of these moments.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Yes, I was waiting right along with you, like, come on 29! Come on! I'm ready to write 29! :) Thank you so much, Mia. I'm so glad you liked it.
This was an amazingly beautiful chapter, and, considering how fantastic I have told you repeatidly I think this story is, that should tell you a whole lot!
I love that you let them see eachother, to be able to hold eachoter, that should give them some strength to go on. I also loved how they see through Dumbledorts lies and manipulations, not to mention seeing the faults of Dumbledorts plans. I really, truly hope that when we reach the end, you will let Hermione have her moment with Dumbledores portrait, if not to curse it, to at least give him a hefty dose of her mind. I have among my favourites, one special story as my top favourite version of how the last book should have been written. That one was written before DH, and though there have been several fantastic stories built on DH, they have not been able to outdo that one. This story however is on a fast track to be my number one favourite, it is absolutely truly fantastic! I am so looking forward to read more!!!

Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
, thank you so much. I'm thrilled by your praise and I really hope I don't disappoint you! Thank you so much for reviewing. xoxoxox
I read this chapter with the biggest smile on my face. The beginning and the end are so very well written. I'm utterly in love with the silent communication you've got going on here. And the love scene is utterly heart-breaking. I like it more with every re-read. Beautiful darkness and very subtly crafted. And thank you for the A/N mention, I've never got one of those before. I'm really glad I could help.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I hope you know how much that delights me. Nothing could mean more. And I gave you an A/N mention on Chapter 17, I believe, so it's not your first. :) But I mean it, here, there, and always, I couldn't have written this one without you. Thank you so much.
Response from RedOrchid (Reviewer)
I can't believe I missed that one! So flattered and happy. :-)Seems I really underestimated the rest of the fans, though. Everyone seems to love the lemons. I'm really glad, you totally deserve the praise.Talk soon. I'm hoping to get some writing done this weekend. Love
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Good! Write away!!! (and thinking back, I think it may have been 15.)Happy writing. Talk soon. xoxox
I'd been looking forward to this - the one time in DH where we know for sure that Snape was right there with them (and with Hermione suitably left on her own, heh!) - and this was every bit as wonderful as I'd expected! Thank you. Both of them have such heavy burdens to carry. As short as this time together was, I'm so glad they had it.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much. *twirls with joy* I'm very glad it was what you were hoping for.
Both of them have their hands full. You so a superb job blending canon into your story.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
They do have their hands full. But to share their secrets--though they are increasing each other's burdens--must feel good. I'm very glad that you are still enjoying it. Thank you for reviewing!
That was beautiful. I could almost feel their emotions and I'll confess to welling up at the end of the chapter.Bravo!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you. I'm so glad that you could feel what they were feeling. That's wonderful. Thank you so much for reviewing.
Beautiful interlude. I wonder if they conceived a child then. It would be very fitting if they did. I'm continually in awe of how you're reshaping canon. Well done indeed.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
. I'm very glad it worked for you. I had a lot of nerves about this chapter. Thank you for reviewing!
Oh thank you for giving them some time together. I think they will both be stronger for it! I am glad they are disregarding Dumbledore's wishes and communicating for fully of their missions.Well done as always. I would have held your hand.Irish
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
You are always there, holding my hand, Irish. And I'm very glad that you liked this chapter. I knew they needed time together--I was just waiting for the right time. ;) I hope this was it. Thank you for reviewing. xoxox
That chapter was so sweet, the brevity of their stolen time together, and the passion with which they made the most of it :)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm glad you liked it. It felt so good just to have them in the same room again! Thanks for reviewing. :)
Response from sunny33 (Reviewer)
Holy Mackerel, Lariope! were you sitting on the keyboard then, you answered so fast :)
I like the total trust they display in each other. It's certainly something that'll sustain both of them until the end.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I hope so. I'm very glad you liked it. Thank you for reviewing.
Amazing chapter!I've never thought of what Snape must have felt like when he returned to Hogwarts as Headmaster. You wrote it brilliantly! You have a wonderful ability to play with my heartstrings...this line was so moving: He had imagined himself revered, in charge of the formidable school, of raising Hogwarts to some vaunted new height. He had, and it shamed him now, imagined himself beloved.I think Severus needs a hug and I need a tissue! So well done my dear friend!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Hugs for you my dear. And tissues too. I'm so glad you liked the chapter. Thank you for reviewing. xoxox
Interesting way to construct the chapter - a behind the scenes scene of DH - good writing. I can see him telling them they would be turned out into the street if they disagreed. Cannot wait to see what happens next.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--I've always wondered what it must have been like for Snape at Hogwarts during that time.
It sounds horrible, but at the end of this chapter I had to laugh. I really like to know how Hermione will be dealing with her angry husband. Her husband! It's interesting that she thought of him as her husband. How will things develop? *is curious*Kisses

I definitely thing there is something amusing about Snape's transparent anger! I'm glad you thought so. Thank you for reviewing! More to come soon.... xoxo
Love the tension in this chapter! Keep up the wonderful work!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! More to come quite soon!
Amazing ... a brilliant background story paired with authentic protagonists - and every chapter revealing new astounding aspects!! The idea of their direct communication through the portrait is just exciting! GREAT!! MORE!! Please... :-)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!! You've made me smile at six a.m., which is quite a feat. :) I'm so glad you are enjoying the story-- More is on the way!
He yells when he's worried. How cute if you aren't involved, and how amazingly annoying when you are. Good chapter.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Well put, my dear--that's Snape (and poor Hermione) to a tee! Thank you for reviewing!
Nothing but the best as usual. You are really a talented writer. I love the fact that it is following the DH book but in a even more dramatic way. Don't get me wrong I liked the last book but it rang true at the end that it was a children's book. Wraped up with a nice pretty bow around the trio. Also needless to say that 90 % of the more interesting adults died. Please continue on writing I am very proud to say that you have at least one very dedicated reader!!!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much for your dedication to the story! I'm so happy to know that you are out there reading. And thank you for your high praise--it means a lot to me. I'm very lucky to get to approach DH from a different perspective. There were so many things I loved in that book, and yet, I agree, 90% of the characters I felt most connected to were dead by the end. I can't save everyone, but I'll do my best to do them justice. ;)
ooooooooooooo htis is good yeah you are really doing so wonderful with this story i cant tell youthank you for yet another wonderful chapter
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! Hugs for you, my dear!
You and your cliffies, Love the chapter, can't wait for what's coming!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Muahahahahahah. Oops.Sorry for the evilness--more quite soon. Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Tee hee... Can't wait till he hears about the horcrux, irritable man. ;-) Of course, he has every right to be irritable, poor, miserable Severus. :-( Another excellent chapter. Looking forward to the next one!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! And yes, I think he's earning the right to that demeanor more every day. Poor Severus, indeed.
