Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Grape Forever!
Reviews for Second Life
Wonderful, absolutely wonderful!! What else can I say. All the passion and fire between them is intoxicating! Leaving me begging and pleading for more!!!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!! I'm so glad you liked it. More soon!
Great writing. The whole scene where she looked and saw him as she dropped the wards was so passionately written.
I especially loved the part where you said that she had waited for him and his part where he followed her with a blind ache that he did not know. Great way of telling their emotions without saying I love you.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I guess I can't see Snape (nor Hermione really) being the "I love you" type. But I'm glad it's clear despite their reticence. Thank you for reviewing!
Awww, this chapter was so bittersweet and lovely. I'm so glad that Hermione and Snape got to spend this little bit of time together.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! Me, too! I'm so envigorated by writing them together--it was such a pleasure to finally have them in the same space. I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for reviewing!
You're amazing. THIS is amazing. I can feel their despair, the need to cling to one another to be able to go on despite everything and everyone. It's just amazing. Very brilliant work and chapter. I was looking forward to their reunion. You just outstanded (not sure it's the right word, hope you undertand what I mean) my expectations.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much, Snichette. I just want to hug you until neither of us can breathe. I'm very, very glad that the chapter did what you needed it to do. Now hold tight to it, because we're going back out there, and it might be a while before our lovers see each other again.
This fic gets more intense with each chapter. The horcrux delerium is such a dark, interesting concept, I love it! I'm also getting the feeling that Dumbledore is losing control of the situation. Maybe it's time for a new captain to take the helm?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! That's wonderful to hear. I'm so glad that you've liked the Horcrux stuff--though I am glad that this is the last one they carry around forever--I wouldn't want to have to do it again. And absolutely! Dumbledore is becoming obsolete--can't control everything from a painting! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
I admit, after I read the first chapter of this some weeks ago, I allowed myself to be distracted and didn't come back to it until now. And am I ever glad I did! I love reading well written, well plotted stories that manage to coincide with Rowling's books and still keep me coming back for more. I can't wait to see how you weave your plot into Rowling's or how you manage to keep Severus alive (not that I haven't figured how you'll manage it, but the other details) and how they'll manage to make a life in the end. At least, I really hope Snape doesn't die in the end. I would be heartbroken if you did that. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much for coming back,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
! I really appreciate that. And I'm so glad that you're liking the story--and a part of me is very happy that you're looking beyond the end of DH to where they have to figure out how to leave wartime behind. Thank you for reviewing!PS. I killed Snape in my first fanfic. I will never, never do that again. lol.
Well, it took me a few days, but I have read it now from the beginning. What an awesome story. I love your take on this. It is quite believable, and Snape and Hermione are very much in character. Love has a way of changing a person, and you have shown me the Snape that I always knew was there, the Snape that JKR herself cannot see.I am anxiously awaiting the next installment.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Wow! Thank you. I'm really glad you found SL. I'm so happy that you've been enjoying it and I hope it continues to live up to your expectations. More soon!
Response from ClayPotter (Reviewer)
True love is so much deeper and more involved than sex, and where many of the other stories I have read focus on the sex, you instead focus on their love for each other. Of course, your intimate scenes are heart pounding also! You are a very talented writer..
I normally don't like to read stories that place the action in the close retelling of the canon stories. Since I know what is coming I get restless with the story. This is especially true for me when the story is set in the DH timeframe. However, with "Second Life" I am not running away. For one thing I have so much time invested in the set-up I really want to see what happens and more importantly, you have written it so well that it feels seemless. I appreciate that. Of course, looking at what is ahead for these characters, I am getting nervous and hope you have worked out better ends for some and a few twists for others to keep me glued to my screen. I look forward to your next submission. Thanks, JoAnne
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you, JoAnne. I really appreciate you sticking with SL even though it's not what you would normally read. I'm very happy that it's feeling seamless to you at this point. I'm definitely planning to tweak here and there as I head toward the end of DH; I think it will happen more and more now. Not sure if that will be a good thing or a bad thing to your mind, but I hope you enjoy it. Thank you so much for reading and for reviewing!
I read this yesterday when it was still first in the new stories list...I kept hoping I would come up with something new or witty to say; but I can't so hear it again...this was beautiful, it was wondferful, so touching and emotional yet again true to characters. You are a wonderful story teller! Can this humble reader - who can barely put 2 adjetives together- make a request?...IF they survive the war; IF they stay married; IF you write an epiloge...can you "please" give us more than "they lived happily ever after."??? Your details, your ability to tell this story leaves me wanting for so much more for them (H/S). Once the "purposes" for their marrieage are fullfilled- what is to become of their marriage? what is to become of them? Can Snape really have the life he almost wished for in this chapter?Whatever you do, where ever you lead us...I am loving this story!!!!!

, in response to all your ifs...:) I just want to hug you to death. I think you're reading the story exactly as I meant it, if those are the questions that are occurring to you, and I could not be happier to hear that. YES! Yes, to all. Yes. I'm planning to go beyond the end of the war. Thank you so much for reviewing! I'm over-the-moon.
This is a truly magnificent chapter. You write brilliantly and kudos to your betas as well.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much. And thank you for acknowledging the hard work of my betas as well. I will pass this along. xoxo
Sigh! This is no way to start a weekend.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, no! Well, forgive me for that.
So powerfully passionate and magnificently sensual - this chapter is one of the top highlights! I'm feeling their pain and desire, despair and determination right under my own skin! Brilliant!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much! That's wonderful to hear--I'm glad that all their swirling emotions came through for you. Thank you very much for reviewing!
What a sweet and yet strong chapter. I love how they mate and turns into equals.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you. I'm glad you saw them as equals.
:(!!! It's so sad they can't be together!!! But it was a lovely update, and right before finals week, no less! Thanks for the break from reality! *kisses*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It is sad, I know. But I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter despite the sadness. Good luck on finals! Thanks for reviewing.
Heartbreaking, lovely, brilliant. (Without even checking, I know the Other Reviewers have stolen my thunder.) The chapter I was looking forward to.Trust you're well! CheersCB

Thank you,
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
! Yes, we were all waiting for this one. I'm so glad you liked it. xoxo
WOW ..... Best chapter so far! You truly have an incredibly strong grasp on DH, but you also have an awe inspring grasp on the characters. I'm truly flabbergasted by your skill! This undoubtedly is the most intricate story I've read in Fan Fiction - and you have brought it about beautifully. I realize "That things said aloud are harder to hide” but it would have been nice to hear him declare to her how much he loves her ..... even though she already knows. The weaving in of all the details (Gringotts, Snapes Patronus, Xenophilius) .... you couldn't have done it better. As always, I eagerly await the next installment. I'm going to be so sad when this is finished ....
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, god, I wish I could contemplate the end. I wish! Still miles to go before we sleep. And I'm incredibly flattered by your comments. You know, I'm not sure that my Snape would ever say I love you out loud. I just can't hear it in my head. But then, they've done all manner of things I'd never anticipated, so who knows! Thank you so much for reviewing. It means the world to me.
*sniffle* There were tears in my eyes throughout this entire chapter! There is so much power and emotion in the words you use, I'm entranced! I'm sorry I can't come up with a more coherent review, but just know that I love this, and I can't wait for more!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much! *hugs and hugs and hugs*
this is just such an amazing story i really do love it and it is in my favorites i am glad hermione and snape had on elast time to be together thank you for another great chapter
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much, my dear. I'm so glad you liked it!
personally i don't see why so many authors bother trying to explain the DH canon. i love non-canon. but this story is truly remarkable. it confronts DH dead on while still maintaining its own unique plot. great writing and great structure. i can't wait till this story is finished and i have a full blow substitute for DH so i can happily forget the actual book was ever written at all. lovely and engaging chapter. the connection between snape and hermione is so sad and beautiful. i can't wait till its over and they (are both alive) and can finally talk about their feelings out loud. really great chapter. thank you.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thanks Annabelle. I never meant to "explain" DH. Frankly, when I started this story, I firmly believed that I was going to tell an ss/hg love story that happened to be set during a time we were familiar with. I'm always a little freaked out by hearing SL called a "rewrite" or a "retelling," though I understand completely where that reading of it comes from. In any case, all this to say, thank you! I'm really glad that you see SL as its own unique story. That means more to me than you can know. I'm really glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for reviewing!
What a touching chapter. This seems far better to me than DH.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, thank you! That's very nice of you to say.
Wow, awesome, I like the stolen moment and hope like hell that your story stays on this plane. I also hope that Snape survivesThis was a bittersweet chapter, very well done
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! Do you mean this emotional plane, or the plane where they see each other regularly, or something else?
Response from Charmaine (Reviewer)
This emotional plane, it is perfect setting for the dispair that was primary in the Forrest of Dean.

Great, simply great, this new chapter! I'm very happy you gave them these precious moments to experience and to remember. And particularly as I like it to stick to canon, I' getting more and more eager to see what you are doing with it and how you do it. Thank you so much, by the way, for your frequent updates! *hugs*
Author's Response: *hugs* right back at you! Thank you so much; I'm very glad you enjoyed their time together. Thank you for reviewing. It means a lot to me. :)
This was a poignant and important chapter. I'd love to point out the quotes that struck me, but there were too many. I'm sure this was the chapter (the one where the Snapes meet at last) many of us were waiting for, and you pulled it off exquisitely. Your prose is stellar, the emotions are palpable, and never once is a single word, interaction, or emotion out of place.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm very moved for some reason by your words, "the Snapes meet at last." For me, this was supposed to be the chapter where they truly became 'the Snapes' I guess, where it unequivocally stopped being a plan and started being a marriage, albeit an unusual one, so maybe that's why I feel so touched by those words. Thank you so much. I'm flattered beyond words and just so happy. *squishes you tight*
Response from emmeline33 (Reviewer)
"...it unequivocally stopped being a plan and started being a marriage..." You definitely accomplished that in this chapter. And, I'd like to add, you've built up to this moment wonderfully well with the previous chapters--especially the one immediately preceeding this.
“Snape,” she whispered. “Snape.” And he did not know whether it was an answer or a greeting or just a sound her heart was making, but he did not care in the slightest. She knew him. She knew.I am tempted to quote just about this entire chapter, it is so exquisitely written. This might just be the very best one you have put down on the page so far. There is so much happening here, so much that is unspoken between them. As he points out, it is easier to hide what has not been said out loud, but they have now pledged to one another more resoundingly than simple words could have ever done. The beauty of your writing has made that absolutely clear. You also continue to flesh out so much that was just skimmed over in the books, especially with regard to Horcruxes and what Dumbledore should have had the sense to tell them beforehand and especially the horror they both feel at realizing that Dumbledore's great plan requires Harry to die. In fact, he seems to believe that death is a fair price to pay for ridding the world of one evil, and that just seems to me to place too little value on life. It is utterly right that they would both be able to figure out so much, including so many things that Dumbledore seems not to have known himself or not even to have bothered to discover. I so want to see her put that Reductor Curse on the old fool, right after she asks him what in the name of everything that is good and powerful and important in the world was he thinking?!You have a moving and brilliant way of describing the emotions that they are undergoing at this point, what they understand about one another, and what they know cannot be said. This was a feeling too large for him, and now that he had known it, he could not un-know it, not deny it, not do anything but yield, and he did not know how to yield.I am weeping, and that is what great literature can achieve. This is just wonderful.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Oh, Elise Wanderer, you've made me cry. I'm just overcome. I wish there were some way to tell you how grateful I am. I'm so happy that you liked it. So happy that you saw in it the things I wanted to say. Words are such slippery bastards. We have such slim hope of ever truly conveying what we mean. I'm so happy that for a moment, across miles and hours, we saw the same thing. Thank you so much. All my life, this was all I ever wanted, to tell stories. And for a moment, you made me feel like a real storyteller.
Response from Elise_Wanderer (Reviewer)
You are, you are--you are a real storyteller. And as one of your biggest fans, I am so glad that you are!
