Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Reviews for Second Life
I am very interested to find out how Snape and Hermione are going to communicate and what they will say to each other as time progresses. Will Dumbledore's portait object as strongly as Dumbledore the man did to Severus committing himself to Hermione?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Soon you will know, my dear! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
God, you're updating so fast I can't read fast enough! *goes off to the next chapter*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know! I apologize for that--just working out some technical things. Expect the normal wait next time. xoxo

Ah, I had forgotten that Moody had been the one to put up the anti-Snape stuff at Grimmauld place. I always thought that Snape had entered too easily, powerful wizard or no. Truly sorry that there is no possible way to still have Moody on this side of the ground (is there?).
Of course, the most jarring parts were in the Headmaster's office. I have to admit that I feel plenty sorry for him having to share it with Dumbledore's portrait! And here I rant again: Even dead and in oil paint, could the wizard not have told him more information? The sword, or, gee, I don't know... how about EVERYTHING? What the heck did he think Snape would do if he knew it all?
Can't wait to hear his conversation with Hermione.
Author's Response: Yes, I agree, all the energy was in the end, in the office.
And I also agree with your assessment of Dumbledork. Why did he hinge so much on Snape if he wasn't even allowed to know the plan? It infuriates me.
Actually, my rl feelings about Dumbledore are much more complicated than that, but that's where I was in my head when I started SL, so there we are.
More soon! Thank you for reviewing!
...to believe, if only momentarily, that things turned out the way they ought to.Perfectly said. And for some strange reason, reading that paragraph, it made me think of real war. Of those hasty weddings and family get-togethers held while a serviceman is home for a short time on leave. Those feelings of trying to get as much good out of a situation as possible, knowing that things may not end happily, but for right now, this day, everything's okay. It really touched my heart.I'm starting to think you should have renamed Albus Dickeldore. He's such a crud! Poor Severus. How many roles/subterfuges/disguises can the poor guy keep up at once? I feel like he's constantly juggling balls in the air, and he can't stop or rest because then one might come crashing down to the ground.I've always been interested in Phineas's portrait--I'm looking forward to some more peeks into his character!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I am cackling over Albus Dickeldore. I like Dumbledork myself. LOL! And that, my dear, is absolutely why I think that Snape would a. feel as desperate as he does in the last chapter and b. would fall in love with Hermione. I think she is the only person with whom he is ever allowed to drop a ball, even for a moment. Ok, that sounded dirty. I'm going to stop now. But thank you for seeing what I see in him. It makes me happy. xoxo
A tweak here and a tweak there. I really like how you have taken JKR's version and changed it to make it your own.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--I'm hoping to get away from these canon-heavy scenes here directly, but I'm glad it's still reading as mine. I really appreciate your review!
Exciting! Poor old Severus, stuck with a grouchy Phineas and a nosy Dumbledore...
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
yes, I am feeling very bad for Severus. He can't even be himself in his own office. Does he even remember who he is anymore?Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
In canon DH, Hermione was absolutely amazing, but there was something kind of cartoonish about the way she continually pulled solutions out of thin air (or her beaded bag). I just love the context your story gives to all her knowledge and preparation -- she's human again, and so much more impressive. Also, Snape and Dumbledore's reunion is great. It makes so much sense that they're still circling around each other in a cat-and-mouse game. I can't wait to see how Hermione uses the Black portrait.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I agree with you completely about that--without some context, you just sort of had to roll your eyes occasionally about the charm she just happened to have handy for that. I'm glad she's feeling more impressive here. I love to write Snape and Dumbledore together--they have such a weird energy.Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
you are really doing a wonderful job with this story i cant wait to see what appens next
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
*Grins* I'm so glad you think so, faula tara! Thank you so much.
OMG I had totally missed that bit about Hermione saying she'd modified her parents memories, and then saying she hadn't ever cast a memory charm. *facedesk* (I really actively disliked DH, and every time I hear something else about it, I get irritated.)And zomg. No more chapters?!? *flail*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I think I knew the moment I read that in DH that I would write this story. Fear not--I update regularly! Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Such a good cliffie. I love your take on portraiture. Chapter 24 looks promising indeed. Looking forward to more.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! :)
Yet another brilliant update! I have said so before, but I will say it again: I love this! Your take on book 7 is totally awesome and I can't get enough!Update again soon!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. More soon!
Grrrr. *growls at Dumbledore*Great, as always! I do love the parallel version of the events in the book. The wedding scene was great, especially Hermione repeating her own vows. And yes, not having a way to have the marriage dissolved isn't necessarily a bad thing - after all, being Snape, he might get all noble and want to let her go free after everything is over, otherwise. ;-)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Goodness knows he would. That would be perfectly Snape. :)Thanks for reviewing!
Can't wait. Just one correction for you. When Harry says Look. Snape's only one Death Eater. The next sentence says "If I've still go the Trace. Needs to be GOT. Otherwise simply perfect. Thanks. Don't want to sound greedy but please update soon.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--I don't know how I missed that. I'll make a note to fix it. More soon.
:) Things are progressing nicely! If I haven't said it yet, just so you know, I really like your version of Severus.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you! I'm very glad to hear that you like my Severus. (I'm rather fond of him myself. ;))
How does one review something so wonderful?

Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!
Betrayal, yet for the greater good. Love this. Thanks.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Ah, that pesky greater good :) Thanks for reviewing!
There aren't words for how good this is. Thank you.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I appreciate that so much. Thank you for being such a faithful reviewer--it means so much to me.
Hmm... wonder what Sev will be able to say to her with all eyes watching and more so, all ears listening? :)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
That is the question, isn't it? We'll see quite soon. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
Hmmm, very interesting turn of events, indeed! I never would have thought it possible for the portraits to succeed in being in two places at once, but you've managed to convince me! I'm curious about something, though. In DH, JKR's explanation of how the DE's found the trio after they left the funeral was because of the taboo on Voldy's name, but in this chapter they didn't say his name, so how did the DE's find them? As always, I'm anxious for more!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm glad you're convinced about the portraits! And you're right, I should have *shown* them saying Voldy's name. I still intend for it to work by the Taboo. It's hard to find a balance between showing everything in canon and giving just enough of a taste of it to imply that pretty much everything you've always known to be true is still true. :)Thank you so much,
