Hermione is forced to lead a double life when she agrees to Dumbledore's plan to protect Professor Snape. Inspired by the Marriage Law. Warning for student/teacher relationship, though Hermione is of age.

Grape Forever!
Reviews for Second Life
Yeowch. *That* was harsh! (But how does the book get back?)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I'm not sure I understand your question--how does the book get back? Do you mean the box/book? In which case you're probably right, I should have shown him returning it to book form before he packed it. But if it's something else, tell me and I'll try to fix it/explain. And yes, I agree it was a harsh chapter. But thank you for reading and reviewing.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Ah, I meant Snape's parting comment to Hermione was harsh. And by the book, I meant how, now that Snape has (had?) it, does the book get back to the RoR (because Harry went after it in DH)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
See, I am an idiot who doesn't look at which chapter a person is reviewing before she just starts talking. Heh.
Response from cmwinters (Reviewer)
Hahaha. I have that problem too sometimes, but so far, I only have the one multi-chaptered and the WIP, so it's not so big a deal, because there's significantly less to choose from. ;)
I have come across your story a few days ago and I simply love it! Being German, I may not be quite as good at eloquent words of praise as my predecessors, but there are some aspects I like that I want to emphasize:a) your Snape is real. Not the reformed and suddenly honey sweet man I have seen in so many other FFsb) you stick to Canon as much as you canc) the psychological development of the characters is described very welld) I have not found any of the things that spoil my enjoyment on so many other FFs, such as unnecessary use of the most eccentric synonyms that can be found in a thesaurus, use of teenage slang language, (just imagine Snape uttering things like "hey, what's up!"), mistakes (grammar, orthography, punctuation), repetition of the same sentence patterns over and over again and many more THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR AVOIDING THESE!!!I will be checking for updates on a daily basis...

, thank you very, very much. These were as elegent words of praise as any author could hope for. I'm very glad that the story is working for you. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!
Wow, I almost regret rating the past chapters so high because this one was even better. I enjoyed it immensely and I can't wait for the update.Thank you very much!!!!gab
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much!
Beautiful chapter, so full of emotions and back ground information. I really like the way you take the original circumstances and twist them only so slightly so they fit to your storyline. And really – I like your way of telling things so much better than Ms. Rowlin’s!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you so much, Chivalric. Wow! I'm very flattered.
I really like how you're interspersing little bits of canon in here!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!
The hurt here was getting to me almost physically. I feel terrible for Severus. How does one find the strength to go on, in such circumstances?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I know; it's painful to read, and I'm sorry. I will say, though, that I don't know how to answer your question. I don't know where Severus gets the strength to go on--I think at heart, that's why we love him so much, because he simply gets up each morning and does the impossible. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
You depicted the action remarkably well, but it is Hermione's and Snape's introspection that sets this chapter apart. Stunningly appropriate and moving. I loved this sentence: They were three teenagers pretending at bravery, but slowly, all their protectors would be killed, and they would be revealed for the helpless children they truly were. And this one:He could not tell her that she had given her life to save a man who no longer wished to be saved. Spot-on prose.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Emmeline, I don't know how, but you just picked out two of my absolute favorite lines from the chapter. Thank you! I'm very glad that you liked this chapter--it's one of my favorites.
Whoa! This was a hellva chapter. That scene with Riddle flying at Hermione was intense. Never cared much for Moody, but I do see how this isolates Hermione even more. Maybe they can meet at Spinner's end for tea?
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Ever hopeful! Let's see...we're on 22 now...so we have a little longer left to hold on...not too much longer. Then they can have tea. :)Thank you for reading and reviewing!
The emotions you evoked in this chapter... amazing. Heart-breakingly wonderful chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you very much. This one is one of my personal favorites, so I'm doubly glad you liked it.
"What about the thestral?" I don't know why that particular phrase moved me so. I loved it! Also, I want to thank you for updating so quickly and regularly.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It just seemed very Hermione to me. ;) I'm glad you liked it. Just to give fair warning, I've always updated so fast because I've been writing ahead of the posting schedule. But that's about to change. Now, I write a chapter to two chapters a week on average, so I doubt there will be that much of a lag--I know how important updating is, but I won't be on a strict 3 day schedule anymore. I hope you will stick with me!
Very dark chapter. My heart ached for Hermione and especially for Severus. He's borne so much.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It is a dark one. But the light will come. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
I hurt for the both of them.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Me, too. I'm sorry. But thank you for reading and reviewing.
It was great seeing that sequence through someone other than Harry's eyes.Sad, sad Snape. To be so hopeless and expecting to be chewed up in the machinery of war. It is so wrong.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you--and yes, I feel horribly for Snape in this chapter.
RIP Moody....... *sigh*
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Indeed. Thank you for reviewing!
you did this scene very well, showing entirely different perspectives.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Thank you!
he better not do that!! Because if he does...i'll bring him back to life and kill him. Seven different times!!
I loved this chapter. ACTION ACTION ACTION. Marvelously written. :)
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Never fear. I wouldn't let him. I've already taken the unbreakable vow.I'm glad you liked the chapter! Thank you so much :)
First of all, thank you for re-reading and re-studying DH so I don't have to. Second of all, thank you for such a beautifully realized, emotionally powerful result. It doesn't seem possible to re-experience the drama of DH at a level that matches the excitement and suspense of reading the canon version for the first time, but somehow you've managed it. And the ending of this chapter is devastating -- a Snape who has lost the will to survive the war becomes completely believable, and sympathetic. Wonderful, and tragic, too.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I sometimes worry that I'll never get to read anything but DH again. ;)Thank you so much for your kind words. Rewriting parts of a book that had me literally hysterical as I read them is not something I ever imagined myself doing. I'm extremely happy to hear that you think they've retained some of the excitement. Snape at the end of this chapter is just painful to me. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I'm so happy to know you're out there!
As one of the folks who feels Snape was canon-shafted, I am always happy to read an alternate story for him. I assume you won't take as long as JKR did with the hunting of the horcruxes (please, please, don't take as long as JKR did!) That said, you've got me hooked. The end of this chapter really does sum up what I thought he'd be feeling at that point - how exhausting, how draining, to serve two masters the way he had. And how many fresh starts can someone really make? Yet your title does beg the question - will his marriage to Hermione give him second life? I hope so. He was always my favorite character.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
I promise that I won't take as long. We're in DH fast forward! Minimal camping! No high adventure! hehehe. Well, I'll do my best. :) Obviously, he is my favorite character, too, and I want the best for him. That's all I'm saying. :)Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
Response from Halloweenbaby (Reviewer)
Well, there is the whole patronus thingy. There is that.
Hmm it looks bleak for our favorite couple. Excellent chapter!
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
It is a bit bleak. But I won't dwell in bleak-land forever. Thank you so much!
Poor Snape - he's sorely in need of tlc.
Response from Lariope (Author of Second Life)
Very much agreed. Thank you for reading and reviewing!
This chapter will stay with me forever. xo

Another excellent chapter! I'm hooked! Thank you so much for the frequent updates, I find myself looking forward to the next chapter as soon as I finish the most recent one.
