Snape is on his way to meet his fellow Death Eaters, not really looking forward to torturing yet another innocent. Tonight it will be someone Snape remembers from his past.

That was some opening chapter. I kept going back and forth over was Snape good or truely bad. Could it be a mistake, a cover, a dream? By the end I was not quite sure which way was up. You've hooked me and I eagerly look forward to the remaining chapters. Thanks, JoAnne

That was exactly my intention :-) Thanks for reviewing - the next chapter should be up early next week.

Horrible, it was horrible, as is torture and war (I'm not speaking about your talent). But I'm intrigued by that mention of the right night.

It wasn't easy to write it, either, as I am usually not into torture and don't like to read about it. But I couldn't get the plot out of my head - I hope you will like where I will go with it, although a bit more blood is yet to come. Thanks a lot for reviewing!

That was intense! I had to skim the descriptions of torture - the mother & child combination is a bit much for me - but am looking forward to seeing where you go with this. Very nice to have the child pass him his wand.

I want to read more of this! Though I admit that fics where torture, especially that of children, is something I most often don't read, it is just not my taste, I do find this first chapter intriguing enough to want to read more, not at least with the wain hope that torture of Hermione and her child ends here. You have made me curious and interested, and you write very well. Update again soon!!!

Surely, at least in this story ;-) Thanks for reviewing!
Lovely story! I look forward to reading all that you have written and will continue to write. I think you are an amazing author that has immense talent.

*blushes*Thank you so very much! I will certainly continue to write, as there are currently too many plot bunnies pestering me. Come to think of it - I am looking for a new beta at the moment. Interested?
Response from luvsev (Reviewer)
I would be delighted to help you, though you should be warned, this would be my first time betaing for someone. My writing skills aren't too shabby, as I am a poet by career choice. Feel free to contact me privately if you would like to discuss further.

Aww, I am so glad that she was able to save him.
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Light ending to a dark story. Naturally, she saved him. She always does ;-)

Woah, I totally did not expect that! I figured that Sasha was Sev's little girl, but I did not know that he and Hermione were married. I hope that Sev will be ok and that he can get healed. You caught me off guard with this chapter, which is not something that happens often. Brava!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
*beams*I am still proud of this story, although the POV hops around a bit. It was the second story I have ever written in the HP fandom, and I worried it was too dark and too bloody. So many thanks for telling me it managed to surprise you!

From the description of Sasha, she sounds as though she is Sev's daughter, but only he doesn't know it. But then again, he is really perceptive, so maybe he does. That would give another reason as to why he would save Her and Hermione's lives. I can't help but to wonder why Sev did not ask for help as well. Great chapter as always!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
I hope I will manage to clarify why he didn't ask for help - Sectumsempra fiddled with his mind and he is not himself anymore. Thanks for reviewing!

Great thing that Sev did by killing those idiots.

Bad spell, very bad spell!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Definitely. I thought so when I read about it in the books, and couldn't resist using it.

Do they not know who Sasha's father is?
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
No, they don't. They kept their marriage a secret, to keep harm from Sasha and Hermione.

I'm pleased I read Sasha first!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Tsk, tsk, that spoiled the plot! But then, this story is cruel and it might be easier to read when knowing whose daughter Sasha is.Thanks for reviewing!

I am so happy that your answear to a old review made me read this all over again, it is a magnificiant story. Now I will rush to read the two sequels to complete the entertainment quota for today:-))
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
I realised only recently that there are many reviews I never replied to, and I swore to do something about it. That it made you re-read one of my stories makes me proud. *hugs you* I hope you are well, and thank you so much for leaving another review!
Wow, that was amazing. Of course, the first chapter was disturbing, but I love the way this story developed. I was thinking, "Holy crap, this is good" through the whole thing!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Thanks! It was one of the first fics I've written, and I am very fond of it. I'm glad you made it over the first chapter...
This story is brilliant. Poor Severus... so brave and logical and always having to deal with such pain. You really brought the emotions out in me with this one. -Clare
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Hi, Clare, and thanks for reviewing! You've chosen a quite bloody story to read, honestly ;-) Glad you liked it - most of my other stuff is not quite so angsty.
Unfortunately the idea of torturing a child at all was just a little too much for me.It was well written though.
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Sorry, dear. If you read the rest of the story, you'll know what's behind it, and that it was the most cruel scene in the whole story. If not, I cannot blame you - I have a six-year old, and it was hard to write it. Most of my stories are a little more light-hearted, though, and if not, I usually give a proper warning at the beginning. Thanks for reviewing!
Response from Hunneigh (Reviewer)
You know I actually did read the rest. I apologize for my initial reaction - it was hard to read about the child abuse, but the rest was well written. Good job. :)
Very enjoyable read. Thank you. I enjoy an occasional dark story now and again as long as it has a good ending. Yours hit the mark. Now to check out the sequels...
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
In this case, do not read my slash stories, there are a few dark ones amongst them that do not have a happy ending. Nor do read Obliviate. Just saying. Thank you for reading this one, and for leaving a review!
Aww! I loved the ending! Can't wait to read the prequel!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Goody goody! The "idiots" are quite lucky that Severus and Hermione posess more braincells than them, and though I have screamed for revenge earlier, I am very satisfied with your ending:-) The prats had to stew for some months before they were forgiven, which is good, and real friends do forgive eachother. Besides, you will never see me complain about a happy ending where Severus and Hermione are together, having a beautiful child etc etc etc:-)))
A brilliant piece of work and I have enjoyed every minute reading it!!!!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Thank you! Feel hugged for your reviews and your support, it is a pleasure to see your name on the list *g*
This was a wonderful story...my heart ached for what Severus and his family endured. Well written. Hope that one day you will take on a novel length story!
Response from chivalric (Author of At All Costs)
Ah well, there are certainly more stories on my computer, waiting to get finished/beta-read/posted. At least two are considerably longer than this one - I hope you will find/like/review them when they are up. Thanks for reviewing!
